[03-09-2010][CyanogenMod 5.0.8][VaniljEclair-Port FINAL V1.1][Neopeek] - Touch Pro, Fuze Android Development

The last days Froyo rubbed all my nerves. As promised earlier to a few members I decided to update CM5-builds. And here is the first Final release of my Eclair-builds:
VaniljEclair from kalt_kaffe (original thread from HTC Kaiser)
Changelog:
[*]V1.1 is a 1-file-download. The ZIP-Archive contains everything you need!
What's Included:
Latest LauncherPro
Compcache activated
Browser removed and replaced by Dolphin Browser HD
Performance tuning
[*]1-file-download due to FINAL release V1.1 -> read Install Instructions carefully!
To get the full performance out of all my builds you have to open all apps once and then restart your device 1-2x times
Known Bugs:
Camera is broken
If you wake up your device and the screen stays black -> just slide from left to right as you would do when unlocking the phone -> The display will wake up immediately.
Used sources for this Port:
kalt_kaffe's VaniljEclair ROM for HTC Kaiser
XDAndroid: rootfs + kernel (2.6.27)
Credits go to: Cyanogen + Cyanogen-Team, kalt_kaffe, XDAndroid-Project, Balsat and top everyone else whom I have forgot! You may consider a donation to all of 'em!
Download + Installation Instructions (read carefully):
Neopeek's VaniljEclair-Port CyanogenMod 5.0.8
EDIT: This Text is copy&paste for all threads on all compatible devices! Everything works fine for my Diamond. I still have no other device then a Diamond. I am still a one-man-show regarding my Android-Ports. Until now I have received exactly 0.00$ donations to buy other devices like Touch Pro, Diamond2, Blackstone or Rhodium and test my builds on them before releasing. So don't blame me for anything that doesn't work for you on those devices...

thx, it stable and fast.Bluetooth work
but have few small bugs.
install failt, can't mount ../npkinstall/install (after make a empty folder ./npkinstall/install ,it's ok.)
else,Gmail & Google Talk's icon miss?
thanks for your work.

First post updated with V1.1!

Browser doesn't work. Collapses after a few seconds.....

how it seems with battery in this build?

testing.. will report back..
Edit: works great, probably one of the actually stable builds with great graphics that Neopeek has coded. Good Job
I have a problem though (recurring in all XDandroid and Neopeek 2.1 builds), I can't import contacts into my phone from my SIM card. i have tried multiple times but it won't display in my phone's contact list. If there is a fix possible, please tell me, thanks.

READ THIS BEFORE POSTING! FAQ

This FAQ will be updated as more common questions are found!
I hope this will help cut down the number of threads that just pop up with the same old questions! PM me or post if you have something that you think should be added.
Made sure you have the newest .net frameworks installed on your computer before you try to do anything!
You can get it here!
Custom RRU and other things will NOT run without this installed on the computer you are trying to flash from.
Basic Troubleshooting and how to ask questions
¤Do these first
Soft reset your device
Check there is no other programs conflicting
Check if there is a newer version of your program that fixes the bugs, same goes for roms.
¤How to ask questions
If all else fails and you need to ask a question, at least do it in a way that makes it easy for us to help you.
Tell us what rom you are running.
What radio you are running
The above two points is why most people have there device info in there sigs.
Dont just say "it doesn't work" tell us what happens, is there any errors?
What have you done to try to fix it? Have you googled and checked this FAQ first?
What device do you have? The Hermes comes under many different names, tell us
Anything else you think that might help, the more info we have the better!
Roms
¤I want a rom, where can I find the best roms?
See this sticky here or see the list below this FAQ that zocster will be starting and maintaining (Should be more upto date).
¤I want a fast rom! Give me SPEED!
You can see here for some info,
And here is my own benchmark thread
¤English isnt my native language, are there roms out there in other languages?
This is an english forum, but there are roms cooked for other languages, here is a Spanish rom and a polish rom, finaly, schaps's roms are available in English and French
Also, here is a thread for a Japanese rom
And now a Italian rom
And a beta of a Czech rom
A cab patch for Chinesein WM6
If you want to do it yourself, You can translate WM into your own language, here though this thread isnt much help for the average user.
¤Will this rom work on my AT&T 8525/ect?
The first thing you see under the devices HTC codename is the list of names its sold under, YES the 8525 is a Hermes!
¤What version of hardSLP do i need? Whats it do?
HardSPL helps prevent bricking your phone though bad blocks, and superCID’s your phone to allow you to flash a custom Rom. Get it here
¤Where do I find my carriers “shipped” rom? And what is it?
This is a rom that a carrier puts out rather than a cooked (custom) one, see here
¤Whats RBSC/RBSC/NBSC/NBCN mean?
RBSC - Real Big Storage Compressed
¤ More storage space than normal
¤ Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ More snappy and responsive
¤ Less stable
¤ Requires the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ No extended ROM
RBSN - Real Big Storage Normal
¤ More storage space than normal
¤ No Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ More snappy and responsive
¤ Less stable
¤ Requires the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ No extended ROM
NonRBSC - Non Real Big Storage Compressed
¤ Doesn't have more storage space than normal
¤ Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ Not so snappy and responsive
¤ More stable
¤ Doesn't require the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ Extended ROM
NonRBSN - Non Real Big Storage Normal
¤ Doesn't have more storage space than normal
¤ No extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ Not so snappy and responsive
¤ More stable
¤ Doesn't require the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ Extended ROM
To check if your rom is BS look in settings/system/memory ... if it is big storage it will have over 70 mb Free program memory.
When you are flashing your shipped rom, use dutty's good NHB tool to extract the carriers NBH, then put it back together without the radio, due to the dangers of flashing your radio over and over again. "nbhtool.exe" which is the tool, is attached zipped to the last post.
or here is the rom with the radio striped out (by me).
I myself use this, and im not on AT&T.. it was just the first stock rom I downloaded and stripped, it really doesnt matter where you live. The reason for doing this, is its quicker, you dont need to reflash the radio( Just the OS and extended rom), and radio flashing can also lead to bricks if you get an error midflash!
See here for more info
You should do this everytime you move from a bigstorage rom to another bigstorage, you will be fine going stock --> bigstorage, and you should be fine going bigstorage --> normal cooked, but sometimes its better safe than sorry! (I flash shipped when im planning on keeping a rom for some time, even if im going to a non BS cooked)
¤What is a "naked"/"lite" rom?
This means that the rom is as "lite" as possible, that it doesn't contain any/much extra software, normally designed to give you as much program and storage memory, to allow you to load the apps you want to use rather than using what the chef thinks are the best.
Radios
¤Will flashing a new radio solve my problems with Wifi/slow SMS/poor signel/Slow 3G?
Your radio rom only affects GSM/UTMS signal quality and speed, as well as call drop-outs can be palatially due to having a old radio. So, if your having slow 3G, poor signal, or lots of drop-outs, look into flashing a new radio.
¤Whats the best radio rom for me?
This depends, on where you live and what carrior, lots of people like the newest radio here and there is a thread about the radios that use the least power here.
¤Where do I find a radio rom?
All radios are here
¤Is flashing a Radio rom more dangerous than flashing a rom? If so, why and what can i do to protect myself as much as i can?
Yes, a lot more, if the flash gets interupted you could brick your radio. The best way to flash a radio is via the SD card method (see flashing section of this FAQ).
¤Noo! Im to late, my radios bricked, what do i do?
Well, see this thread here for help unbricking.
¤Best radio for XXXX countery
Best radio for South Africa
Best radio for Belgium
Flashing
¤How do I Flash a rom?
You need to flash HardSPL first, then download a custom rom of your choice, and flash via the Custom RRU or the SD card method.
¤What is the SD card method?
This is flashing your rom from your SD card, this is safer than using a USB cable, as there is less chance of disconnection ect. See here here
¤DAM! My phones broken, but I need to send it back to my carrior/ect for warranty, Dam how do i restore my phones SPL ect?
See mrvanx's guide on this here
¤My phones a brick! something went wrong, help!
This is a list of all the brick types that are known and how to fix them
¤Im geting random hard resets and other bugs, and im using a BS rom, whats wrong?
You didnt read the advice in post #1, flash a stock rom, for example this stripped one.
¤Why does this happen?
The idea floating around, and as explained by mrvanx is that as we are abusing the area of memory that is normally the extended rom, the memory setup gets a bit messy, so flashing a stock rom with extended rom overwrites everything back to how it was supposed to be, helping to improve stability. A stock rom is like a spring clean for the phone.
Bugs, Fixes, and Tweaks
¤Help, my 8525’s keyboard is wrong, what do i do? / How do I change advanced settings? / I want my keyboard to be in the German style.
Get Schap’s Advanced configuration Tool from here and here is a post with a cab for German keyboard layout.
¤What's the page pool? What does it do? How do I change it?
The page pool is Ram that windows uses as a cache, the more you have the faster windows should be running apps, but the less memory you will have for programs. Most roms come with a 6meg pool. To change the page poll BEFORE you flash the rom, use this tool, you cant change the page pool post flash.
Also see this thread for a good discussion on the topic
¤My cameras broken, what do i do?
See here
¤My BT stereo sucks, how do i fix this?
Installed Advanced config and increase the bitpool. And try the cab in this post.
¤Help! My screens gone white, what do i do?

¤Why doesn’t my hardware keyboard work in landscape mode with opera moble?
This version of Opera is so far the only one I have found that works with the keyboard, Thanks Josh!
Or you can use this newer version which has full keyboard support.
I use Build 1957 myself, as i find the newer 2000+ builds do not support the landscape keyboard again (I have tried both of the builds at there at time of writing this).
¤But thats an old version of Opera mobile! I want a newer one!
Download this for build 1930 or this for build 1780, extract the 3 EXE's and replace the once in /windows with them (After you install the cab of cause)
Or you can use this cab to update to build 1938!
¤Im having network issues! Help!
Try running the HTC network wizard, that you can get from here if it isnt in your rom.
¤I want to make a theme for WM! How do i do this?
Use this fantastic program ThemeGenCE
How to make WM5 Themes
And how to make your bar's 3D or not.
¤Help! My wifis messed up, on any cooked WM6 or WM6.1 after install, i turn on wifi, and it gets garbled settings from the router, acquires bogus IP, then disconnects right after, what do i do?
This seems is to-do with a driver issue, see this thread for more info and it seems the cab "HTC_Hermes_WiFi_drivers.cab" fixes this as seen in this post of the thread the cab is also attached to post #4 of this thread.
¤My Hermes wont change from this random USB cable? Why?
This is because HTC uses custom wiring in cables that come with the phone, it seems to work if you plug it in and then soft reset with the cable still in.
¤Im having problems with syncing with acticesync via bluetooth, what do i do?
This seems to have been resolved in this post here.
¤My WMP is acting odd, and using up loads of ram, then being closed due to not enough ram, whats going on?
Read this report
¤I am getting random crashes and hard resets, I have flashed a big storage rom! whats wrong?
You more than likerly didn't follow the doctors orders, see here for more info.
¤Im having Problems getting Activesync to connect to my phone, what do I do?
Go to Start > settings > connections > USB to PC and untick "Enable advanced network functionality" If this fails remove all partnerships, reset device and computer, and try again.
And if you have Windows vista, Try downloading the newest WMDC 6.1, making sure to uninstall the old one before you install.
¤Im having problems with the custom RUU, its flashing up errors/not running.
You need to install the latest .net framework, run windows update to get it.
¤I cant get YahooGo! To run, it just crashes, what should I do?
It seems YahooGo doesn't like CF3.5, see this thread here for a fix
¤My phone says I have unread SMS even when I dont! What do I do?
This post here should help fix it.
¤Does the Hermes support SDHC cards (4gig and up micro SD)?
Yes, in some WM6 and 6.1 roms that add the drivers to support it, but this is only in software, the bootloader doesn't support them, so you cant flash from a SDHC card.
¤How can i toggle Silent mode on and off with the com manager button?
Cab in this thread.
¤Im having problems with my sound quality, its rubish on speeker and the earpice, what can I do?
Uninstall SRS WOW and if that doesnt help, see this thread
¤Im haveing problems with screen alligment! Help!

¤How do I sim unlock my device? And CID unlock, what does CID unlock mean as well?
CID means carrier ID, and it locks your device to only your carriors roms, hardSPL superCID’s your phone, so you shouldn’t need to run the CID part of the unlocker, as perminatly superCIDing your phone will void your warranty.
Get the unlocker here
You DONT need to superCID if you have flashed HardSPL
¤How do I change my boot splash screens?
See the readme in the attacked Custom splashscreens zip
¤Whats this "UC" people keep talking about, and how do i use it?

¤Im confused by the terms used here! Help!
A few very common terms:
Flashing: To flash a new rom/radio means to basicly install a new OS
HardSPL: HardSPL is a a patched and hacked bootloader which alows us to run unsighed code (custom roms), and superCID our devices
Custom rom: A rom made my a chef rather than put out by HTC or another OEM
OEM/shipped rom: a stock rom that came from a carrior or HTC
Radio rom: This rom controlls the GSM part of your phone, and ONLY the GSM radio, flashing this WONT help with wifi/bluetooth problems, they are driver based (aka the rom you have on your phone)
A brick: A phone that has had a problem during flashing, and is only usefull as a brick, aka its non fuctional
A list of basic Acronyms
And here is a very comprehensive Glossary
Search XDA with Google If you cant find the info you need here, BEFORE posting a new topic
This thread is also for any cab's/programs ect I cant find links to.

And YOU for reading this rather than posting ANOTHER new topic
My to-do list:
Measure Idle and full speed file download power consumption on a few radios (new Thread)(This isnt going to get done I dont think.. to much risk flashing all the radios myself.. and it varies so much across the world..)
Radio Example:
Radio: 1.47.30.10
Location: England, East Anglia
Carrier: T - Mobile
Signal when testing: 4bars HSDPA
Rom: CRC V12.9BS Naked
Idle consumption: 40mA (leave the phone in the same place for 5min ish and take the average)
Radio on idle consumption: dial upto 3g then leave the phone in the same place and take the average.
Load consumption:415mA (use the dsl report mobile speed test, 1 meg file, and watch the meter, take the highest it goes)
Any notes: Kept poping between 3G and HSDPA.
I hope Im not going to upset/offend anyone with this, im just looking to make a roundup of all the info out there, and put down answers to all the questions I had when I first for my device, I know the radio testing has been done before, but it seems mrvanx has left us, or is leaving us for the Touchpro.
If this has helped you, or you like what I do, pleases consider sending me a small donation, any amount is very gratefully received.
Awesome effort
Hope one of the mods will make this a sticky, as most punters don't like reading, and don't go to wiki. Also translators would be helpful. I speak English and Indonesian/ broken Malay. Anyway as we are trying to keep this thread as UP TO DATE as possible, I am going to post the most recent and active chefs on the hermes forum.
RIP Marahox - he has left us for the raphael (traitor! ) anyway hope you enjoy your new toy buddy.
The latest 20753 by DVH - as this is the most recent build that the chefs here have managed to port, this is a super storage ROM, and possibly compressed, so if you are not adventurous, don't go this way.
PDA Corner 20748 - latest build, with a variety of flavours, for the adventurous and the conservative (being super storage, compressed, and normal) if you like older builds you can go to his old thread.
Starbase64 thanks for the great ROM and excellent cabs collection! And starbase's new release here!
CRCinAU 20270 Development ROM and CRCinAU 20270 gone stable ROM - this guy never cease to amaze me. Stable and fast ROM, with intuitive device update wizard.
I wish to extend my warmest welcome to two new chefs!
Anryl and JoshKoss new talents that the hermes world are happy to have!
Geez don't these two newbies ever sleep? Anryl just came up with a new 20748 build already, and so has joshkoss, ... their wives need to strap them to a chair?
Anryl has a CZ project going, visit here, for those come from CZ!
And how can I forget our order what you want chef, kareem9nba that is when he gets his laptop back, hopefully later this week!
And for those wanting some international flavour
Here is a Polish and a Spanish ROM (which I believe he is no longer cooking for the hermes either), and before you know it a new chef comes out with ITALIAN Rom
I am looking forward to some old chef that are returning, I can't mention names. If you are looking for an older ROM, don't forget to visit the first sticky!
so you've made it... thanks! I hope this will put an end to the endless tiny questions... if any need for translations is required, I might help with German and Arabic. thanks again

Im working my ass off Its almost done! (for the time being)
Anyone feel like starting off doing benchmarks for each rom? I might do, unless someone else feels like going into a flashing frenzy, with sktools lite, fresh flash, unpluged, and no activesync running!

4-Copy all the files to your SD Card. (I prefer a clean SD)
5-Run Haret.
6-Wait for a while.
7-Smile.
8-Play with it. ("it" refers to your "Androided-Device).
9--Post your feedback.

THIS BUILD DOESN'T NOT FULLY INCORPORATE ALL LATEST COMMITS FROM GIT. I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!!! THIS PACKAGE IS CUSTOM AND SHOULD NOT BE MODIFIED AT ALL IF YOU WANT IT TO WORK. DONT ADD ANYTHING BESIDES ANDROID APPS!!!! DO NOT UPDATE THE ZIMAGE OR MODULES OR YOU WILL FIND MIC DOES NOT WORK. ENJOY THE RELEASE
NEW*: System update: http://htcandroid.xland.cz/system-accelloremeter&smsfix.sqsh
SIMPLY RENAME TO system.sqsh AND OVERWRITE THE EXISTING system.sqsh AND THAT IS IT. THERE IS NO NEED TO DELETE DATA.IMG UNLESS YOU WANT TO.

My test:
Material - All from post 1 + old calibration file + zimage from 18th Dec 2009
Run haret with my wm6.5 with PHONE ON, BT OFF, Wireless OFF, Data OFF. So, gsm was actualy working when i run haret from my wm6.5
Boot was normal and android boot himself in OFFLINE mode. I didn't understand why because phone was on in wm6.5.
I tried to turn on Wlan and it tried to initialize but then it didnt.
When i tried to disable airplane mode, it crashed as expected.
BTW, why dont we try to add wifi.mac=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx to startup.txt?
Thanks!

Great to find someone to test.
I don't think adding wifi.mac will work, I will test it though.
Something with Radio itself is preventing Eclair from booting, thats why we need to run haret in airplane on mode.
Currently, testing n searching to have phone working on Eclair.
Any way to make android log/debug all the stuff so we can later see what made the crash?
Thanks
boot
I am boot haret with phone on (wifi,bt,data off) but not freez. Freez only after when iam try to disable airoplane mod. Iam cant wait for next release /SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH (CZ)/

Seems to be a software/hardware conflict or incompatibility issue.
I'm working to find a solution to fix "Radio" in the meantime.
Clues would help
I guess, since osamaa started the phone with (radio off) option, which is required by the android build. And it is stored as setting in data.img. so others, without rebuilding data.img will be able to boot without setting radio off in winmo.
do you need to laungh it trow sd cart?
isn't there a possible to laungh it form the memmory of the phone?
thx

Yeah you're right.
The reason why the radio should remain off in the meantime is that the device freezes at startup, as mentioned earlier. You can't run haret with a blank data.img now. we should first find out what exactly causes the hang.
I'm looking into rootfs.img now. you guys can help by trying different ones and giving feedback.

No, you can only launch it from the SD card using Haret to boot Android over Winmo (Which is installed in the internal memory).
so ant updated zimage to test. good luck with the project. join us on #htc-linux channel on irc. together is power and sharing is caring.

However, in my case, i started haret with phone ON and when it went to android, android himself turn to airplane mode.

UPDATE:
babijoee made it up, RADIO IS WORKING NOW.
So the problem as he described is:

The reason for freeze
Something in the Android build is telling it to use CDMA networks, so when it loads the radio and connects to the GSM network it freezes. I have used the latest diam500 zImage which is meant for CDMA and Android runs perfectly without even using my data.img. Although there is no CDMA networks where i live so i cannot connect to anything. Perhaps someone with a CDMA device can confirm this. I'm going to do some research on how to switch to GSM. If anyone already knows how to do this, be my guest and share your knowledge
nvm i fixed this and now its working

What is the problem to "flash" Android on the internal ROM ?
I mean, when i press the On Button on the phone, it starts a "Bootloader".. this starts windows mobile.
Why should it not possible to tell the bootloader to start direkt Android?
Great work guys!!! it seems to be working pretty well...not yet as good as 1.6 by phh but it's on the way...and it could be even better...really better...
Android 2.0.1 is great...
keep on this way!!!

Fully Arabized HTC Hero Completed (Thanks Ayman)

Hello All,
It looks like Ayman at Ce4arabs.com and owner of http://code.google.com/p/arabicandroid/ has did it i have finally with me a fully arabized Hero. The OS is in English put Arabic is supported everywhere, I have checked the following software and i can confirm it works in:
Native SMS Client
Facebook app
web Browser
Warning:
Please do a nandroid backup before you attempt anything.
Nobody is responsible if you brick or damage your phone
Please contribute to this cause and approach Ayman for contribution/credits/thanks I am only a messenger.
Ok this is how it is accomplished.
Wipe Phone and Flash CKdroid 1.5 ROM (Kagu should also work but not tested maybe some one can confirm)
After Flashing the ROM proceed to the download page in Ayman Project ( http://code.google.com/p/arabicandroid/ ) and click downloads.
Download " update_ar2_n1_corrSkia.zip " and flash it
You guys can also use morelocale 2 (in the market to change the region to Arabic) and anysfotkeyboard to type Arabic.
That’s it. I will be happy to help if you guys need it Please provide feedback to help other members & Ayman out.
This is excellent!, I'm going to give it a try with kagudroid 1.1 and feedback!
Yes it's great work from Ayman, we need to support from xda-developers dev to add this Arabize to their ROMs like Mr. Adwin.
Regards
Just to confirm, I'm run KaguDroid and I've used libwebcore for the browser for a few days and installed the full pack 5 minutes after I got his tweet and it works flawlessly.
In fact, this is the only reason I upgraded to KaguDroid. It didn't work for me on 1.5.
Many thanks to Ayman Alsanad for his great work. I'll be sure to drop him a donation, it's well earned
Awesome!!
I tried extracting the libraries from his previous ROM and put it in Espresso/Hybrid and signed it .. didn't work !!
I think SenseUI (even Espresso's SenseUI) needs HTC modified libraries !!
Anyway, I'll try making a SenseUI ROM with these libraries.. or with Launcher2
but let me finish finals first :S

MAXO .. glad to see you here .. i really hate the fact that we can only use the arabizer with vanilla android .. i mean honestly .. SENSE UI rocks .. it's a candy to the eye + can't live with out the people and the messages widgets .. anyway, hopefully they can find a way to apply the arabizer to modaco .. atleast then we'll have a stable , sense UI rom to use

I can confirm that SMS Arabize work on these ROMs but any Internet apps (web browser, Steal, Market and GMail) FC!
I can live with Arabize SMS only, but I could not solve the libwebcore.so?!
Hope some devs help us with that.

Are there anymore updates coming or is this final? Arabic texts are not fully connected but better than nothing
HTC Sense UI with arabic support
OK quick update,
I have started a small project to enable Arabic on sense UI. Yes that means that you can use madaco ROMs also as well as original ROMs. Cool huh. So far i am collecting source and editing them going well but slow.
I am also changing the HTC keyboard to type Arabic (this can take a While).
I did also notice some problems we reading Arabic with English numbers and that the Arabic text is always left aligned (actually i believe that this is the problem) so i will have a look on this also.
I hope can post back soon.

I'm working on that too.. if you want, we can collaborate
anyway, yesterday I added Ayman's libraries with "Villain 1.1" and signed it..
it booted, and it reads Arabic fine .. but the Browser, and Market FC !!
I guess HTC modified the LibWebCore, not just the Browser..
I tweeted Lox today asking if HTC released their libraries source code so I can compile the "HTC version" of LibWebcore (redo Ayman's work) .. but he didn't respond yet
anyway, since it's Final exams period, I'll focus on them first..
after that I'll try to solve the browser and Market issue

Do you know what is must weird thing, it's if you upload all Ayman libs to ROM with HTC sense the phone is work but as you faced any web apps FC and if you pushed libwebcore.so from original ROM and leave libskiagl.so and libskia.so the phone will not start at all! it will hang at Hero logo!
So I don't know if these libs are connected together somehow or not?!
I did a lot of research and I couldn't find an answer.
Can we share our experience on this problem?
Regards
One more thing, try the Arabizer with any 2.1 ROM like Vanilla and Hikara because I found 1.5 ROM doesn't have libskia.so and 2.1 ROM does.

I'm with you on this !!
we want an open knowledge and communication, not like other Arabic projects
I'll post any information I found regarding this ROM. and I hope all here will do the same.
and all my future ROMs and work will be Open Source and free (GPL). and if we collaborate on a ROM we must publish it as "XDA arabic community" or something like that
anyway, for now I have to finish some projects to start studying for Finals.
so see ya in two weeks .. wish me luck
OK I'll start:
Android 1.5 with HTC Sense (Modaco 3.1):
with libwebcore.so:
- Phone hang at Hero logo and it wouldn't boot at all.
with libskia.so:
- Nothing happen, because libskia.so is not included in Android 1.5
Android 2.1 with HTC Sense ([email protected] 9.5):
with libwebcore.so:
- Phone hang at Hero logo and it wouldn't boot at all.
with libskia.so:
- Phone hang at Hero logo and it wouldn't boot at all.
with libwebcore.so and libskia.so:
- Phone boot with no problem, Messaging read Arabic very well BUT any web apps like Browser, Market and Gmail FC!
-----
I googled several times to find any HTC Sense source code or it's structure but no luck .
So in my opinion we have to choose one of following Ways:
Way one:
- To find HTC sense source code to know why compiled libs not working.
Way two:
- Try to solve the FC apps.
Thanks
by the way MaXo64. good luck with your finals.

[2010.2.4 New Testing Package] Online..

Time changes, and things go better and better.
This thread is dedicated to test the android and try to figure out where is the problem
[NEWS]
The NEW KERNEL ROCKS.. With double RAM.
And the new rootfs is cleaner than before.
I am going to release a new package (which I just did some small editing)
What can you do with this package?
Connect ADB (very important for debugging)
Put everything in a folder of your SDCard
Supply with NEW kernel and now you have more free RAM
Enjoy the cleaner rootfs (I have made some small modifications)
Download : http://www.mediafire.com/?1tbnyz2jmky
If any of you know how to enable chat in irc, please let me know.
BASICS:
Current Android boot from HARET which start from Windows Mobiles.
It consist of several components. Each of those is having unique functions.
1. STARTUP.TXT
Passing parameters to kernel which enable users to specify machine specific data
Current parameters including screen size, dpi, rotation, etc.
2. Kernel
The most important piece of code that enable everything to talk to the machine.
Developers here are most focus on this area as the other are greatly supported by google and other developers.
Kernel also determine what the hardware could do, and how it connects to other devices.
3. rootfs.img
This is the root of the linux, which initialize the OS. Especially running some startup scripts and mounting folder.
4. system.sqsf
The is the base Operating System of something call ANDROID. For others, you may considered them the basic environment of mobile Linux. For what we call CupCake / Donut / Eclair are stored here.
What we will be doing is to test out the features and bugs and locate the part of the about components affecting it.
Updated ADB howto:
Grab my base package.
Connect to computer before running Haret.
Wait until Android boot complete.
Install Google SDK USB drive for whatever device show up.
droid explorer or "adb device" to test.
If no device found, replug the usb cable.
This post would be updated with agenda drawing most concerns. We need your testing to see if you have any similar problems.
Agenda:
Top priority:
Device can't be wake.
Rear speaker always on.
This post would updates the testing items, and report the latest status.
Everything here are replaced with most recent findings and once more users confirmed, it moves up.
Do not believe everything in this post, but try falsify it. Reports in here would be presices to the level of component and versions.
So make sure you know what you are testing.
This post is a testing invitation, with trials and errors.
If someone raised an interesting phenomenon, we are going to invites members to test it. And the result format would be given as well.
This post may be changed from time to time to refect the new items needed to test (including the return format)
Now, let's kick start.
#1 To Test the base package in post 1
Return with following format.
Machine Type: BLAC100 (other devices are welcomed, but of course we are BLAC owners and would focus on it)
Test build: 2010.2.4
Radio: 1.17.25.09
WIFI ON: YES (WPA)
WIFI OFF: YES
Calendar / Gmail : BOTH OK
Google Voice: OK
Deep Sleep: YES (To test it, disable WIFI, Any USB, and press END KEY to sleep. If deep sleep is working, the system should not be up with key other than the power key)
Wake up: Crashed sometimes initially and get stablized later
ADB Connection: OK
Additional Package Installed: Facebook, dolphin
Suggestion: Replaced with kernel version xxxx would help to xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (if you found out how to make the build better)
#2 DEEP SLEEP AND WAKE
Please post your kernel version (or if you have no idea, the file name of the wifi module) if you found youself never had problem with sleep and wake (not yourself, but your blackstone android).
Lets begin this thread with a constructive approach to achieve our desired goal.
Will Post the feedback as requested.
Machine Type: BLAC100
Radio: Security unlocked 1.16.25.48 (Kovsky)
WIFI ON: YES (WPA)
WIFI OFF: YES
Calendar / Gmail : BOTH OK
Deep Sleep: YES but say after 10 minutes it wont wake-up.
Market: Working with downloads.
Additional Package: Facebook, Wifi toggle, Currency converter, Battery lite.

Thanks for your report. Developers is aware of the wake up issue of blackstone. It is however, seems still not fixed in the new kernel.
And Pierre-Hugues Husson would disable the deep sleep function (consume a little more battery) in up coming kernels, and we can try it on very soon.

mcdull,
Brendan shanks has changed pid on kernel to "0c01", this should enable working with ADB without hacking the inf file.
This was deployed on Build: [email protected]_071547.
Let us know if this makes any difference for you, and whether HTC sync is now possible.
Thanks
It works perfect
hello,
I am using ANDROID_bLACKSTONE_TESTBUILD_20100125.ZIP & zImage-modules-20100129_022341 and it works perfect on my Blackstone till now.
Wi-Fi - OK
Synchronization with google account - OK
Sleep mode - OK
It is FAST
Call IN and OUT - OK
SMS - OK
this combination is best of the best till now what I tried.

AFAIK, HTC Sync will not work just yet. And I was not able to connect to ADB after the change. I need to test on some editing.
- Theory
As I already mentioned, the latest implementation of kernel prevent the proper installation of usb driver, and we need to fall back to old kernel to install the driver first (which the old kernel has 0c02 address).
Now, the modification has put the case into dead end. coz we can have no way to ask the computer to install a correct driver with 0c01 address.
In such case it is more difficult to modify the whole batch of driver setting then just the ini. I still have no go in using ADB.
The HTC Dream driver for windows seems works on ADB again.
As suggested by Brendan Shanks, you need to modify the "eclair.user.conf" (stored in the conf/ folder on your SD card), at the bottom, add this line to the custom_shells section:
echo 2 > /sys/devices/platform/msm_hsusb/usb_function_switch
And I have successfully to connect to ADB again.

After that , the Droid explorer works well .
Bluetooth and GPS , the last frontier.

Android on HTC Kaiser AT&T

Well, I really hope this wasn't answered before as I did a quick search, which yielded no results.
Anyway, first off...
1. Is Android laggy on the HTC Kaiser?
2. Battery Life?
3. Any other "side effects" of android on the HTC Kaiser?
Also, I have a HTC Kaiser AT&T Edition. How would I go about installing Android on it? I know there are tutorials, but doesn't the AT&T version have a slightly different keyboard and whatnot?
Uhm.. your hopes... well, it was answered already Do a thorough search
But still:
1. No it's not. Android is (sometimes much) faster than WinMo 6.5, and, imho, faster than WinMo 6.1. Though it depends on distro - for example, recent Scoot's CM7.1 RLS3 is a bit slower, but I'd say most mature, whereas fat free froyo and barebones are snappier.
2. Quite good, actually, but it again depends on a distro. Currently I'm experimenting with Scoot's CM 7.1 RLS3 (thanks scooter1556, you're the best) and it performs just like WinMo without any modifications. However, with a broken battery I've got some intriguing results - WinMo would go from a fully charged to poweroff in ~30 min, where android holds more than half a day. Indicators are showing voltage below normal, but phone still is working!
3. Camera If you're using your phone as a professional DSLR, forget android
Other than that, android looks much, much better than any WinMo I have ever seen, and, unlike WinMo, is not hopelessly outdated. With Scoot's CM my Kaiser looks like a brand new phone (needs some external polishing and repaint though .
AT&T version is called Tilt, right? If so, there is a keymap for that. Personally I've got a "nordic" phone, which also has a different keymap and android has no problems with it (and I use hardware keyboard quite a lot). So I would expect something similar with AT&T version.
Hope this helps, but surely dig into this forum - you'll be surprised how much info is buried out there

Uhm.. your hopes... well, it was answered already Do a thorough search
But still:

So I should be able to follow the instructions on this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=680518
How would I install another distro than the "Vanilla" version the thread gives?
I've found and followed these HowTos:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstallWithAtoolsHaret
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstallWithAtoolsNand
The safest way probably is to install on sd card and boot it from haret. The steps for that are:
Download atools: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/ (follow Downloads)
Download the distro (I haven't been able to boot Scoot's CM from haret, but it works perfectly from nand. Other distro's from Kaiser forum were working from haret).
Follow HowToInstallWithAtoolsHaret guide. Atools will download kernel and ramdisk, you just find yourself a distro that you like.
If you want to install to nand, study HowToInstallWithAtoolsNand guide. I would recommend installing Scoot's CM 7.1 RLS3 and Scoot's kernel. You can find CM thread just below yours, and kernel thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152219
Study these guides and threads carefully before flashing. If you've got any more questions, don't be shy

I usually find a way, but for the life of me, can't figure out these instructions. Tried the guide I posted previously, but pressing D-Pad Center only shows "^@" and does nothing else.
Then tried your guide, but seems the program was updated and works/looks a bit differently.
UPDATE: Followed this guy's guide and I got it working perfectly.

Ah, yes. But it seems my time window to press that is short. I end up having to spam press the button to get to that menu.
