So, 4G tethering. What's the deal? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which apps work for effective 4G tethering via either wireless or USB? I've got the latest version of Wireless Tether for Root Users, but I haven't tested it yet. Will the stock "internet sharing" feature work for 4G?

yes, if you pay for it. wireless tether works 4g

USB tether not working

HTC application installed on Windows 7 Dell laptop.
EVO is NOT rooted.
Hooked up cable, clicked internet sharing, and got...
"Error code 67. Registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again."
You are not paying for the tether that is what that means. They do not offer free tether. You will have to download something from the market place and internet.
pdaNet or easytether to USB tether your phone.
well damn. i had asked in the forums before i got the phone if wired tether was free, and people said yes, that only had to pay for the wireless tether.
live and learn.

with the old plan i had before this one, tether was included...or phone as modem...i hate that i lost that for the evo, but oh well...
with an application/hack it will be free.
wireless tethering is free now.. as is wired tether.
check out the development forum for how to setup wireless tethering, and to get wired tethering working -- search the market for PDAnet.
good luck

PDAnet isn't free
You can use an older version of PDAnet (v1.12 I think) and still do everything.
PM me for more details.

Older versions don't do BT tethering, that starts at 1.16. Just go download wireless tether for root users, it does both wireless tethering and BT tethering and it now works on a rooted evo.
BT tethering just means you drain your battery faster. Your Evo came with a USB cable so IMO thats what you should use.
I got the 4g on launch day, and have been using PDAnet since with no problems. It's free for 2 weeks, then blocks https after that. It's going for $19 last time I checked.
I wish I didn't have to do the extra steps it requires both before and after connecting it to my computer by USB, but I prefer free right now to $30 a month to Sprint on top of what I already pay.

[Q]: Tethering 3G/4G

Are there any ROMs out there that support both wired & wireless tethering while using both 3G and 4G?
The posts I see about it are people saying they can get one or the other working at either 3G or 4G, but not in all combinations.
Thanks

Any sense ROM will support Wireless 3G and 4G tethering, using the "wireless tether app." Using the hacked sprint hotspot will only allow 3g wireless tethering, 4g is not unlocked with that. As for wired tethering, the phone's native USB tether will work on 3G, and not 4g I believe.(almost all ROMS have USB tether unlocked) To get around that, use PDANet (from the Market) or Easytether (from the Market). Both of those apps allow 3g and 4g wired tethering on any sense RoM. Hope that helps clear things up a little.
Thanks.
I wonder what causes the trouble for 4G wired tethering.

[Q] built in tethering in CM7 - same as wireless tether/barnacle?

How does the wireless tethering in CM7 work? I'm guessing it's the same as the free workarounds, rather than using the verizon paid tethering method. can anyone confirm this?
Same question here. I have tried that and the wireless tether app and neither work for me.

i got wireless tether work by going in and setting it manually to adhoc mode or use barnacle tether
barnacle definitely works, i just want to know if the built in one will result in tethering charges.
No, the built in tethering doesn't incur any charges.

Wired tethering?

Does anyone know of any free wired tethering apps? I use wifi tether from the market for wireless tethering, but I'd like to connect my USB cable to a desktop with no Wi-Fi adapter and tether that way. I used to do that with my
EVO 3D with the hacked official hotspot app which supported both wired and wireless tethering. Just looking for something similar for the S3, I would appreciate any help

If you run cm9/10 there's an option built in for wired tether.

[Q] Any luck with WiFi tether app?

I just bought the Note2 for Tmobile with unlimited data but I did not pay for the plan with tethering through the t-mobile hotspot because those plans limit the amount of high-speed data you get. The majority of my data is used directly from my phone but on rare occasions I would like the option to tether my laptop. Does anyone know of an app (or workaround) that works on the N2 that will allow you to WiFi tether?

This worked for me, except I had to use tethering widget-https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achmyr.android.froyo& instead of wifi for root users
