Steps
Extract Psfreedom to root of your internal storage. Replace module and zimage file. if the name of new and old module is different just delete the old module
Connect phone in active sync mode with your pc
Run haret.exe
After you see boot animation you can disconnect your phone from pc
open terminal emulator in dev tools in android
run the following command -># Type "su", then "cd /sdcard", then "insmod psfreedom.ko"
make sure your ps3 is turned off( switched oof from the back in FAT model/ power cable is unplugged in SLIM model)
connect your phone to the usb port of your PS3
Turn the back switch on(FAT model) or plug in the power cable for Slim model
press power button and then immediately press eject button
Now in XMB there will be another option to install package files
put the manager.pkg in your fat32 formatted pen drive
Go to install package file and choose manager.pkg
After it is installed remove the pen drive
Insert the game you want to make a backup of.
Open backup manager and select the game and press backup.
After the backup has been made remove the game disk and put any other game disk.
choose the game of which you made backup and press load. it will send you to XMB
Now in front of the CD icon it will be the game you backed-up, not the game of which you inserted the disk.
Just run the game and ENJOY
NOTE: Those who get unknwown usb connected try 5-10 times. if the error continues.Format your internal storage and change your android build to 29.7.10 and and if it still doesnt work flash a new rom ( a fast one) ( dont know why but it worked for me) .
If you get the black screen then come back to XMB while running backup make sure you are removing your pen drive while making a backup. If it still doesnt work you can use the PSfreedom provided by Denial84 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E2J6E55H

The first issue I have is this:

I'm running XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.29.7.10.RC2.1. Looking at the 'andboot' folder (where I run xdandroid from) the module file has a different name that the module file in the psfreedom package. Therefore, 'replace the module file' doesn't occur.
Does this indicate I'm using the wrong xdandroid version? Will it be a problem?

After the second boot of XDANDROID I can't boot, I get the error of not being able to find rootfs.img
I dont bother with the andboot folder?

Just put both files in internal storage, it works for me

I have htc diam500.
I didn't use those crappy "andboot" folders.
I did EVERYTHING from the root. I also tried like 3 different versions of the psfreedom.ko file(one with bmdv* support) and some other one.
So I think it comes down to having the right psfreedom file and LUCK.
Also once you install the emulator(the thing you do after installing Xandroid) if you get a # and blank line than you've done it right. After that just plug it up to your ps3 when it's completly off.

OK, I'm almost there.
I should've tried it before I posted because apparently it doesn't matter if the modules file in the psfreedom package has a different name to the one in the xdandroid folder. I just deleted the original 'modules-2.6.27.46-01130-g0ac6681.tar' and copied over the one from the psfreedom package 'modules-2.6.27.46-01162-g741ab49-dirty.tar'
I've got to the point of starting my first backup.
This brings me to my next question:
1. When using the backup manager there is no option to backup to an external hard disk.
So how do I either:
a) backup to external hdd, or
b) move my backups from the internal hdd to an external hdd when they're done?
Update: OK, now that I've got a Fat32 formatted external hdd connected the 'backup manager' prompts me to backup to external hard disk

ummm I'm not sure on that. You would prob. have to google that. or just save it to your internal drive on the ps3 and when it's done see if they would let you do it is the only way I know.

Also, if you run xdandroid from a location other than the root of internal storage, you need to make a corresponding change to step 6. In my case:
"cd /sdcard" becomes "cd /sdcard/andboot"

Delete the old module already present. and let there just be the new one which is in in psfreedom. dont rename it

just download the android build 29.7.10 and extract it into root of your internal storage. not in any folder.
delete the module already present there and extract the new one from the psfreedom file.
Is there any way to run a script automatically on terminal start up that would basically run the 3 commands
su
cd sdcard
insmod psfreedom.ko
???

HaRET freezes after the vibrate.

I'm facing a problem that sometimes goes away. When i start HaRET, it freezes after it vibrates. What could be the problem? I'm using a HTC Touch Pro(not a diamond)
I Hope that someone has a solution for this problem.
that maybe cause of the android you are using. try reinstalling android using a new or different build. try the one in first post.

Formatted a 128mb micro sd card(i know it needs to be more for datastore), copied the files to the root of the card and run it. It looked like it was fixed, but it frozen after doing some things to load up android.
you need atleast 300mb of space for proper functioning of android.
it will kinda extract the sy.ext2 file which is of 90 mb so it takes all your space.

normally just calculate how i wrote in the readme:
whole space -768 (3* 256) and then the other 3 x 256
but in ur case i would make the swap smaller (i think its not even used at all) and the fat32 bigger; for instance:
fat32 - 384 MB
ext2 - 256 MB
ext2 - 256 MB
swap - 128 MB (rest)
To be honest the bit I find most confusing is all the different versions!
i didnt create any partitions on my card, and android works as good as it does on any, mind you i have not updated the files fo0r a month so alot might have changed

especially the DualBoot thing...
is it possible to make a little bigger how-to manual?
or at least explain the versioning and the needed thing a little more?
the readme is about 50 times longer than anything else u will find about installing android anywhere else
the different versions are just like in windows mobile, theres not much to explain, its rather up to ur personal preference. doesnt take as long as flashing a wm rom, so its easy to try out more versions, especially with more sd cards.
dual boot is easy:
1. install the cab
2. open the dual boot program and make all your settings, for example: auto boot android (click on the checkbox/ratio under android logo), check auto boot checkbox and check fast boot (means 3 instead of 10 secs).
3. restart your device, DONT LAUNCH HARET because that will destroy all the dualboot settings. if you restart/shutdown the device normally, the settings will be stored and android will automatically booted at next startup (or whatever you set before)
if you have android autoboot and u want to boot wm, just QUICKLY press the wm LOGO when the dual boot screen appears.
i might include this in the readme soon, just dont have the time right now unfortunally

the first problem I have encountered yesterday when trying to put Android was SD card formating...
i downloaded the program you said and followed the instructions oh how-to and was not able to do it under Windows 7 with my 16GB SD card... does it even work for Windows 7??? is there another program I can try to do it with???
I have also dualboot on my PC with the Kubuntu being the second OS, but I'm not using it as much as Windows 7... I can try with it if you think it will work.. but first I have to download the 15GB of data from my SD card to my PC, again
I would like to put the Espresso build cause I saw that it has everything working beside the GPRS and camera...
can you tell me what should I download for my Blackstone so it works properly???

for glossy, u can also use ubuntu (download parted magic or something similar) to create partitions.
for espresso, u just need to copy the stuff onto ur sdcard.
but thats all in the readme... i dont have time to explain in detail coz i need to study a whole ****in lot at the moment +.+

meaning u dont have a zImage at all (ur probably using espresso?). so download one from here, copy files onto sd card and rename "zImage.xxxxxx" to "zImage" and ur ready to go.

well, some details about what version you are using would be helpful. however, this is not the right channel to ask this question. i think this question has already been asked several times in other threads. try search function or read the thread for ur version, its probably a version-issue or only for your country/provider

sorry about that...I realized it later that I should ask in another thread that question...
I managed to figure it out... I just needed to manually configure my APN settings...
So first of all i must say that im a completly noob at the android instalation on kaiser

Its not tricky, I mean even I can do it, come on
I did edit a wiki page on this, but appears to be down, so here goes, from memory.
Backup any data first, just in case, not taking any responsibility for loss of data.
Firstly ensure your SD card if formatting correctly (FAT32), use on Gparted (linux live CD) to do this, (for me, I created two ext 2 partitions as well as I thought this would work best, works for me).
You then need the HaRET application to allow you to run Android. Google "haret.exe"
Extract the files this should create the right directory.
You then need to choose a build, this is personal choice, but I'll post the one I am testing right now. milanche's CyanogenMod 6 Kaiser
Put the installandroid.tar into the folder you created above.
Move to your SD card.
Find and run HeRET.
When screen shows text, tap and hold the center of the screen until you get a menu.
Choose install (ensure the options are set to SD).
Select Install
Once done, select Quit.
This then installs Android and can take a while, just leave it to get on with it.
You should then been booted into Android.
I might have forgotten something, as I am doing this from memory, but it should be fresh since I installed this last night.

Thatnk you Zenity, but I know I couldn't have done this without your help in the begining when I first tried it. I know how it can seem all a bit over whelming.
I know a lot of people say 'search for it' but I did that just to see what I would find, and to be honest, I didn't get anything but that was of any use, so I can sympathis the search doesn't always get you the right results.
I could not remember the direcotry names when I wrote that at work and had to do it in a hurry as the entire office can see my magnified screen so it was a quick brain dump, not as nice as I would have liked to have written it given the time (which I did on the wiki but its down).
Anyway Keeps it fresh in my mind too.
I can only do this when I'm given the right files, I got confused myself when people started talking about different zImages. I tend to go for the builds where everything is bundled into one packing, as some can seem fragmented, ie Fresh Foryo, I don't doubt that it may be a good rom, but its deleivery is complicated (for me ).
Wish I had more time an experience to make my own build, I have done a bit of linix hacking in my time with shell scripts (getting wifi cardds working ona laptop etc), Its all interesting stuff.

If you'd have problems with using Gparted Live CD like me... just because it does not mount SD card in adapter... here is what I did to partition the SDHC 4GB card...
I booted with HARET but did not select to install.. it gracefully fails to terminal
command: su
command: fdisk /dev/block/mmcblk0
deleted all current patrition (d)
created new partitions whith calculated size (8192 for 256MB)
changed type of the first and biggest patririon to FAT32 (t => c)
written all the changes to the partition table (w)
Than you should take out the card before rebooting and format FAT32 partition in win to upload all te android boot files, rebot the phone and follow with instalation...
But I must say, now I am using Scooters Cyanogen in NAND and it it far far easier
After I choose run, then a list of Linus commands ran, then it said
:loseup:/dev/block/loops: No such file or directory
Failed
Failed to reach system.img on SD card

Sounds like you are not holding the centre Dpad button (or pressing the centre of the screen) while haret is loading, yes this can be Hit and Miss it winds me up no end.
If you have access to a Linux machine (or boot a Live CD), as well as being useful for SD partitioning it also maybe used to try out Atools (you'll need to install python and python-tk (via the package manager)) as this will get you the right Kernels, images and configure your default.txt file for you, though I haven't managed to get the build script bit working yet, but that is down to my lack of understanding the instructions

- chose haret.exe in root and wait android boot on divice

First of all you have to decide on which version you use. If you wanna use Xdandroid-method then go the way escoda recommended you.
If you wanna try something else then try my builds (requires partitioning)

Hi vatoloco, can you tell me how partitioning diamond on windows?
As far as i know you can't, but you can use Gparted, a freeware linux app.
If you haven't got linux, you can just download a live gparted cd and boot directly from this one, without changing your OS at all

OK...New to this and would love to learn and understand how to mod my phones...I have an LG eve, Iphone 3g and a HTC touch diamond and have figured out how to jailbreak the iphone...Now I know the LG eve is hopeless as far as upgrades and I am trying to figure out how to install Android on my Diamond...So far I have copied the files to a folder...
The 2 root access files are copied to my internal storage however i am not sure what to do about the Galaxy s build....Do I copy the whole folder or do I copy everything but the start up config file? I am a bit confused...Please help...Oh and will I still have Windows in the phone or does this take it out? Oh and if I have issues can I revert back to windows? Sorry for all the newbie questions...I have searched and read for like a month now and it seems so complicated...This is the first thread that seems simple enough...Please help me...Thanks so much...
Ok so I copied the files and am not sure where to find the STARTUP.TXT files..? I found 2 files in the Galaxy folder in the start up config however one of them is Black start up and other is called Diam start up ? with one do I copy? Or am I am the wrong path? I also opened the Haret.exe file on the phone and get the error:
cannot open script file/internal...etc...Please help...

please help? I have tried everything I can think of and have been reading for like 8 hours now and still can't seem to get it to work...I download the above files and then copied the startup.txt in the other partition and when i click on the Haret.exe...nothing happens...Tried it like 20 times...When you run file wizard starts it automatically has the install.exe or something like that...should I replace it with something else? please help...I am having a hard time explaining this so if you need more info please let me know...thanks
I tried to use Android on diamond by using sometime like Eclair but unstable and slow. It takes me almost 5 minutes to boot up and gives me a crash when I use it for minutes.
Is there any way to remove the windows and just use Android instead? Thanks.
Hi, I also had issues installing Android. First I thought it was too nasty.
Finally, by mixing many instructions I got it.
I would say, for [Xd]Android with an EXT2 partition (from Linux):
1/
Start Ubuntu from a bootable CD (No need to install it) and follow the steps from Vatoloco (Thx for this video) here:

When done you can move back to windows. You should take some notes from the video to do the same.
2/
- Then you can take the Neopeek Android Installer V1.1, found on Neopeek's website:
CyanogenMod6 - Port
+extract on your pc
- Also download the Android build (for example the one here from Neopeek) called "CM6 RC3 (Nightlie Build 17-08-2010)" on the same page.
- And the "HARET-PaketV1.5" +extract on your pc

- Rename the Android build you just downloaded as "androidinstall.tar.gz"
- Then copy "npkinstall" folder to your internal storage (the fat32 partition)
- In your "internal storage\npkinstall" folder, copy the android build "androidinstall.tar.gz"
- In your "internal storage\" (root) copy what is contained in "Haret-PaketV1.5"
- Copy the "startup.txt" file from your own device (found here: "internal storage\Startups" to the root : "Internal storage\"

4/ The only step remaining is to run the 2 programs:
- "Internal storage\npkinstall\install.exe"
(It doesn't take too long, if you read what is written (and readable ), you can see if it worked)
Your device will restart at the end of the installation.
- Then Run the last program:

It takes longer. When Android starts it seems to be bugged but finally work if you are patient. Next restart will be a lot better.

On my side, I used Android only a few hours as it did not meet my expectations.
It works perfectly and is smooth enough. But I will perhaps use Android when we won't need to have windows also installed.

I use this one now for a 5 or 6 days without going back to WinMO and it still works perfect. only thing is that you have to charge twice or more a daybecause you cant see the correct battery state. last time i checked the uptime without charging was around the 8 hours. but i didnt know how long it lasted after that.

I got the scoot cyanogenmod RLS 4c and after few reboots,when I boot my device,its says google frame work is not responding.I cant tap wait and when i force close google frame work,all of the basic apps force close itself.
Sometimes it even says "system is not responding".
I also tried Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [RLS15] and it says the same.
Any help?
That is data corruption. What kernel are you using and how is it installed.

Thats why. Upgrade to the latest l1qu1d kernel in the thread stickied at the top. Also edit the kernel with atools to match your phone.

hey uri, use one of the builds and kernels im using in my signature they're working flawlessly on my Att Tilt, click on the word atools for a guide made by l1qu1d, its very detailed and easy to follow. Donut rls is the most stable one but its a little outdated cause my good friend warbyte has been a little busy right now, Scoot's froyo is the latest of the latest, but im still trying it, for the moment its workin nice and smooth like a delicious yogen früz cup (sorry bout the publicity moderators LOL)

You have to use a SD card reader and copy it trough windows to the main directory of the SD (dont copy it to any folder) be shure its formated FAT32 and that the readonly switch isnt at the lock position. (the little switch at the side of any microSD to SD adapter)

make sure you have HardSPL...
power off the phone, take out the stylus, with the stylus press the reboot button as you keep pressed the camera and power button, all at the same time! you will see a tri color screeen, then something like "kaisimg.nbh press the power button to start updating" so be obedient and press it!
I just uploaded tiny noot, a very minimal root tool for the NST glowworm. I think it would probably also work for the simple touch, but I've lent mine out and cannot test it to confirm.
I am basically a cobbler here; many thanks to GabrialD, DeanG and the folks with the minimal touch root tools, which this is based on - and of course to mali100 and the CWR team for getting that on the Touch and Glowworm. Everything below is put together with parts from those projects using what I've learned at XDA and from Dean's nook color repartitioning scripts.
They make it possible for someone like me to knock out a package that's a little more convenient to work from than booting noogie and manually copying in files.
I am using the clockwork recovery zip installation mode for copying in the minimal set of files - I'm not trying to support the google apps or the many interesting screen refresh hacks.
I am not including a modified uRamdisk - the stock uRamdisk supports ADB, and you can get root via adb wireless simply by typing su, so I chose to leave well enough alone.
GabrialD has already released a modified uRamdisk for the glowworm (to support root by default as well as the light) but since stock works for my purposes, I'm not using the modified one.
What it does include:
su and busybox
nook color tools in /system, so that nonmarket apps can be installed
adb wireless
ADW launcher
Amazon appstore, so there's at least once source of "easy" apps
Button Savior
Nook Touch Tools
Supermanager and the Busybox updater interface

Navigate down to "install zip file from sdcard" and hit N

hit the N button

One thing to note, I didn't do the reboot that you mention in between the 1 and 2 packages and everything worked fine. I just installed 2 right after 1 and haven't had any problems.
Thanks for this, rooted last night everything is as it should be, the only issue I've run into is that I can't seem to install the Kindle app. It's not in the amazon market place, I tried backing up the APK from another device via EStrong and transferring the apk to the microSD, and I get a parsing file error. Any tips?
I have not been able to get Tasker to install yet, either.
One thing which sometimes works where other approaches fail (if you have the .apk file) is to ssh into your device (I use quicksshd) and log in as root, then cd to the directory the APK was copied to and issue the command
pm install blah-blah.apk
I have not yet tried that with Tasker, but it may also help with the Kindle app? I did need to do it for one of the apps I use, although I can't recall which one.
Edit: the 3.1 kindle app Zydraka points out works for me as well.
By default, the Kindle app is pretty unusable, very slow page turns. But by using the gesture-enabled screen refresh hack, it's very useable. (I found that using the no gesture version led to lots of apps just ignoring the hack's presence. I think Renate has a way around that, but I haven't read up on it.)

I got Tasker to install, but needed first to copy in the Maps jar and xml (to framework and permissions respectively) reboot and install via ssh - it might have worked just to reboot.
Since others may want Tasker available, putting the maps.jar and maps.xml files into the tinynooter is trivial, and I'll probably get to it soon.
I found that the older version of the Kindle app works, version 3.1.0.30. There's a donwload for it at Android Freeware. http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/app/kindle
So, after this, will the glowlight work in all apps? I need to make sure that, moon+ reader and EZpdf will glow in the dark, before I purchase the new nook.

The glowlight seems to work in all apps. I'm not clear on how exactly it's turned on and off; it might be possible to have an app that uses a long press on the N button for something else, and that might interfere, but so far it works fine in the launcher, in the Kindle reader, in fbreader, in Newsrob (that I know I've tested.) even if you had an app that was doing something funny with that long press, you ought to be able to turn it on from the settings menu that comes up on a short press.
Once the glowlight is on, it seems to stay on until your screen goes to sleep, regardless of what applications you may also be using.
This is part of why I didn't get into the boot environment at all in this approach - I knew from manual rooting that I didn't have to change out uRamdisk so I decided to leave it all alone.
Thanks for tinynoot! It's working well for me, and glowlight behaves normally.

You know, it should be nice if before using the packages other people create, for your own project, you asked them for permission to use them, if not, at least create your own scripts.....

Anyway, the two step process is not necessary here, thats just for preventing some Gapps database corruption, you edited that code away allready and there are no Gapps installed, so add the code to correct the permissions on the first zip, and everything should work fine, no need to rm dalvik either if you arent modifying framework.jar, etc, it should also speed the first boot time.
I apologize - this was intended to be a quick hack and largely for my own use (as I was testing stuff on both my and my girlfriend's glowworms) but I realized there were a lot of folks trying to root their gw's manually. I thought it worked well enough to share.

Everything is fine, It didn't even pass my mind the idea of reporting it, we are a small niche community, active members must be praised, so dont worry, and I encorage you to keep deving ^^, just that before using other peoples work and starting a thread with it, ask them for permission, no one is gonna deny it and it's the kind way of doing things .

Just so folks know, I've confirmed that the tinynoot rooter also works on the NST running 1.1.2 firmware.
It will probably work on earlier firmware also, since it is not replacing uRamdisk or framework files.
Are Supermanager and the Busybox Updater supposed to work? Supermanager crashes back to home, and Busybox won't install.
Did you apply both files, and is there an sd card in your device? I just tested the busybox updater and was able to get it to update the installed busybox. It requires that you have an sdcard inserted to work - I remember being puzzled by that the first time I tried using it on a device.
supermanager is crashing. I hadn't tried running it on the device before, and hadn't noticed that.
Looking at logcat, yes, supermanager's crashing in the background quite a bit. It seems to be looking for things which are not available, for instance, a dialer, and erroring out when it can't find them.

Supermanager has always been a problem, at least for me, using TouchNooter. I believe it's intended to provide file manager capability, particularly for installing APKs on uSD. Once I get Market (Play Store) access, reinstalling supermanager fixes the problem. At that point, I don't need it anymore.
I've always had to work around this when rooting my Touch devices. I'd suggest a basic file manager be provided instead for Day 1.
I'm rooted with tinynoot. Recently I've been experiencing excessive battery drain. I'm eliminating apps I'd installed to if that helps. Wondering if anyone has experience with apps that are problematic in that regard? Dropbox? Amazon Appstore? Facebook? 1Mobile Market? I assume nothing that was provided by default with tinynoot. Thanks.

I'd suggest installing task management apps to get a view of what is actually running (not all processes relate to an installed app icon that you can uninstall). I use Advanced Task Manager to view running apps, and Autorun Manager to control what processes start up at boot time.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. In the meantime, as an experiment I uninstalled several apps including Amazon Appstore, 1Mobile Market, FB, and Wireless ADB. Good result - my battery charge hasn't decreased in an hour and a half. If I decide I miss them I can try adding them back and use your method.

I'd suggest that Wireless ADB is not to blame, since it does not stay resident once it's closed and in any case does nothing until you click the big red button
Of the others, I have Amazon Marketplace installed and I don't experience any battery issues (I'm Glownooted not Tinynooted but don't think that's relevant in this discussion), but I can't speak for the other two apps. If I were paranoid (and I am! ) I would point at Facebook, since it's purpose is marketing and wants to follow your every move
