[Q] FM Transmitter? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Rather than purchasing another expensive add-on, I've read that the Desire has the capability of transmitting FM.....e.g. if I wanted to listen to an online radio station or my music library from the Desire on the car stereo.
I've searched the forums/app market with no luck, does any one know of an app or solution to having this work?
Thanks!

ive never heard that the desire can transit fm ??? i use a bluetooth car head unit works great

So absolutely nothing?

the desire does have a fm transmitter, i remember reading it in the specs when i was deciding what phone to buy to replace my hero

Then where is it, I never read anything as such.. this is one thing I miss from my n 900 .. would be a massive fail if I missed it out

i found a thread talking about the n1 fm transmitter, as we all know the n1 and desire have almost identical hardware
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=7d31d3160c3bbacc&hl=en

i've also read that there is an fm transmitter built into the hardware.
there's no way to make it work though eh?

[Q] FM Radio Software

From what Ive read the G2 has FM Radio capability. Any way to get the FM radio APK off of the Vision rom for use on G2??
Thanks
Stingerrray
I'm fairly sure it does not have an FM tuner.
You could always use an app like Radio Time that can live stream any FM station on the globe practically.

So if it is even possible, it will need a proprietary headset adapter thing as an antenna for the FM radio. I'm not even sure THAT info is correct. However, HTC's site makes no mention of a radio.

heck even apples ipod nano can listen to fm with ANY pair of headphones. its required since nano doesn't have a built in antenna. Fm radio isn't listed under the G2's chip specs though same went for the N1's. though somehow the N1 got radio. maybe the same thing will happen to the G2. once we get root.

That site also says the G2 has a 2Gb ROM, which has already been disproved.

They pulled up the page for the Desire Z, here is the compare page for the Desire Z & G2. Granted that it still states that the G2 has a FM radio, the ROM capacity is at least correct.

TuneIn Radio app has almost all my local stations. I never heard anything about a FM tuner on the G2

The FM radio has to be built into the software on the phone. It is true that the headphones can work as an antennae, but they are still dependent on the software being there on the phone. As of now, no one has been able to successfully get a working FM radio on the Vibrant.
Sorry for my bad english i mean to say i want headphone in which fm radio is inbuilt not in samsung vibrant phone ...
you can use the sony mw600's, which are bluetooth. i've tried it once with the vibrant but purchased bluetooth headphones.
anyone know if i can use the mw600's, my sony bluetooth headphones, AND vibrant? kind of would defeat the purpose to have so many things in hand but I wouldnt mind missing to fm radio stations and when I first saw that the vibrant was gonna have an fm radio, like the hd2, etc...i was sold. not a dealbreaker that it didnt come with it though.

FM Transmitter Yet?

Ive seen many threads with questions like these but none of them have answered the question:
Is it possible and will it be done in the future?
Thanks
Ummm, no. The phone does not have a transmitter in it. Just an fm receiver, which doesnt transmit.
it is technically able to transmit but it would need to have that software written for it, the likes of which its taking to get 4g on cm
It needs power going to the antenna in order to transmit, as far as I know it was not designed to do that.

Umm, no. Again, there is no TRANSMITTER in the phone. If there was one, I'm sure sprint would have used it, and touted it as a feature.
the FM chip manufacturer spec sheet lists it as capable of transmitter but htc did not include the firmware for it to work, they also did not include an antenna for it to work (requiring a cable plugged in to receive signal as well) this was discussed months ago in detail, if you search deep in q/a or dev you can find it
found this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693253 it has links to some others
Well, this is turning out just like the other threads, some say yes, some say no.
Is there a developer that thinks that an FM Transmitter is possible?

some of the same chips for BT WIFI are being used as in the ipod touch and those are capable of transmiting as well as receiving so in theory it should work on the evo....then again SOFTWARE

i think im going to try it today.

Well, good luck, please tell me if you get the transmitter to work.
Thanks

FM Transmitter

Our GSII comes with a built in FM Transmitter/Receiver chip. I haven't seen a link on this. Has anyone unlocked the potential of this hardware feature yet? I would love to be able to transmit an FM signal.

Hrmm really? That would be too cool for school!
Here's the tear down of the phone. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Epic-4G-Touch-Teardown/6481/2
The phone has the Broadcom BCM4330XKFFBG 802.11 a/b/g/n MAC/Baseband/Radio with Integrated Bluetooth 4.0+HS and FM Transceiver/Receiver. Not sure if we're going to have to be rooted to utilize this hardware but we have the internals to broadcast our music to our cars with our phones alone.
Here's more info on the specific chip in question http://www.broadcom.com/products/Wireless-LAN/802.11-Wireless-LAN-Solutions/BCM4330

it all boils down to if the transmitter is actually connected to the chipset
the evo also has an FM transmitter but there really wasnt any attempt from anyone to get it working.

And if there is a strong enough antenna to transmit. It takes alot more power to transmit than it does to receive

Heck I would be happy if we could receive fm radio but from what I've read no one has it working as a receiver....

My galaxy s II came with an fm receiver app that works nicely. idk if it would work on the epic
Hmmm....think of the possibilities. With a lot of states requiring hands-free cell phone operation, could this be made to work as hands free device for your vehicle? It would definitely save us consumers from having to buy yet ANOTHER piece of hardware for our phones, which can damn near drive our vehicles for us anyway.
Are there any in the market that has been tried?
I've tried spirit FM and it did not work, I wasn't really aware how much I used it, till I got this phone.

dont give up on this, the potential is amazing!
Noone has gotten fm transmitter stuff working for any phone with these chips, even og epic had the chip capable of this. Probably the feature cause interference so it was not enabled. It would be a killer feature and u would imagine one manufacturer would enable it if they could. So native something preventing then if doing that. I remember long time ago there was lg fusic flip phone that had fm transmitter on sprint, haven't seen any phone with that after that.

[Q] FM Transmitter

I've tried looking on google and read the manual but I can't find any info how to turn the FM transmitter feature on. The specs say it has one and I want to be able to play music to my car stereo via it. Looked in all share but still no luck. Anyone else tried this and been successful?
Cheers
As I know Galaxy W don't have Fm Transmitter.
That's a shame as some of the reviews I read said it had which was why I bought this phone. I compared it to the galaxy s plus on geekaphone and one of the reasons to buy it was the transmitter. Just looked back at them and they have taken it off the website
Guess it doesn't have a tv-out option either?
Yap no TV out
