[Q] Desire - Synchronisation with Outlook - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I may be one of few, but I would like to synch my Desire with Outlook. Under my previous Blackstone (with Energy's perfect ROM's!) this was a no brainer. With the latest HTC Synch SW, Calendar and Contacts are present for Sync. Notes and Tasks are not. I gess it's all about marketing and the preference of Google to synch with Gmail and Google Calendar, but I use Outlook professionally. HTC Sync for Calendar does not process changes made after intial booking properly and looks not too good either. Is there any proper app / solution for Android I wonder?

Sync Phone with Google Calendar

Hello everyone,
I have an O2 Xda Orbit, onto which I have installed the marvellous ROM created by Tom (Version 4.1). Since I have now left my old job, I no longer have the luxury of an Exchange server to store my calendar appointments.
I discovered that I can use Google calendars, and give access to everyone to see where I am, but I cant find a usable application to run on the phone that will keep the appointments in sync. let me explain.
Most of the apps offer a "free" version that will only sync 3 days ahead, good for testing, crap for normal use. In addition, I use Re occurring appointments, which dont seem to be copied over to google.
Does anyone know of a good app that will sync in both directions between my phone and my online calendar. If I had to move away from Google and use hotmail or similar, then thats fine too.
Thanks guys, youre all great
one week ago I started to use GooSync. It works very well. Take a look....
Emm, i think it was OggSync..

Goosync worked well with me. I have my shift pattern programmed, so it's always recuring with no issues
I think both have a free version if you only use one calender

Google Calendar Sync
As long as you are happy to sync using your PC then ...
5 March 2008 Google Calendar Sync allows you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
You can now access your Google Calendar account from your mobile phone! Just visit mobile.google.com/calendar/ with your phone's web browser and once you're logged in, you'll see your list of upcoming events with date and time information in an easy-to-browse format.
Cheers
Tom
Various calendars in Google , Outlook format
In case you are interested www.addadate.com has loads of sports and social calendars in Google Calendar, Outlook, iCal and Lotus Notes format. Ideal to sync with your Orbit includes Formula One, Tour de France, Moon phases etc etc
"Yahoo! Go" is a free app if you have a yahoo account, it syncs calendar and contacts, gives you access to local news, your yahoo e-mail, stock market, yahoo maps, weather and flickr. it's a pretty solid app, if you can put up with Yahoo!. I use it to save my contacts when i hard-reset. havn't had any problems yet.

Looking for advice on HTC Sync, Outlook 2003 & Google Calendar

Hi all.
I'm looking for a little advice.
I currently use Outlook 2003 at work along side HTC Sync (HS) to sync my calendar entries to my Desire.
Is it possible to sync (only) the HS entries on my phone to a specific Google calendar? Ideally I'd like to sync the HS items into an online Google calendar just for work so I can see it online when I don't have my phone.
Happy to use an app if that's the only way...
By the way I can't use the Google Sync app for a couple of reasons; my company regards it as a security risk and it doesn't allow you to select the specific google calendar that you sync to - at least not as far as I know.
Thanks in advance.
Setting => Account & Sync => Add An Gmail Account => Sync Calendar
if u can't use this , there is a plugin for outlook that allows u to sync your outlook calendar & contacts , with Your Google Calendar & contacts ( if that's of any help ) , it's quite easy to find if u google it ...

Thanks Skywalker1726, but that's not quite what I meant.
My fault should have been clearer. I already have my phone set up for my google account but I have several calendars in that account.
As far as I can see I can't select a particular calendar to sync my Outlook items to. It looks like only Google calendar items can be changed.
I don't suppose you know the name of the outlook plugin? I tried googling for it and came across way too many dead beat apps.
Just to repeat I'm looking for a way (or a phone app) that allows my to select a specific google calendar for the items I have synced to my phone using HTC Sync.
Here is the link , Hope that helps !
Quite good but not quite right...

Thanks for the link and the suggestion.
unfortunately, it's "too similar" to the Google Sync tool and therefore my company think it's a security threat (I know there are worse things out there but go figure )
I suspect that I need something that works on my phone and allows me to select different calendars to sync back to.
Bump - any suggestions...?
Any suggestions?

If I'm understanding correctly you want your Outlook calendar to be synced "to the cloud" (in this case Google) which you can then access from your phone (or online when you don't have your phone).
I had a look and can't find any apps that will copy your phone calendar to a Google calendar. As you are using Outlook 2003 and can't use Google sync your options are a bit limited.
If your company uses Microsoft Exchange then you should already have remote access to your email / calendar on the web and you can also connect your Desire to this using the built in HTC calendar app. Your IT person should be able to get you set up fairly easily.
The only other solution I know of is to use a third party sync program - outlook 2003 doesn't support saving calendars in ical format (which you could have used as a manual workaround).
Sorry not to be more help...
Fair enough. Thanks for trying. Unfortunately my company are quite backward about their use if IT so pretty much any sync app or Exchange integration is out.

I am using gSyncIt. Not free, but it does the job between Google and Outlook. A lot of option to customize the sync, including several calendars.
Not sure what method it uses to sync, so maybe not working for you. But I know my company IT is as well in "stone age" and blocks nearly everything. But gSyncIt works.

Sync contact/calendar without HTC Sense

How to?
If I choose to install a ROM without Sense I can't able to sync contacts and calendar events with Outlook.
I've a lot of contacts and also a lot of calendar events so this kind of ROM is not usable for me, unfortunately.
I tried android sync but it doesn't work as good as expected... maybe in the future it'll be better.
How do you do?
wrong section but it think it should work......

About section maybe you're right but it's where I found as many as non-sense roms.
What do you think it should work?
IS SHOULD, anyone?
Right, HTC Sync performs the Outlook<->Android contact/calendar sync and this is not available on non-Sense ROMs.
I don't know of a good free contact sync application for Outlook, but Google Calendar Sync will synchronise the calendar between Google and Outlook.
I've noticed that certain "advanced" recurring appointments that can't normally be entered in to Google calendar (e.g. "last day of month") will synchronise with Google Calendar and look fine, but then will _not_ synchronise correctly to the Android Calendar -- it ends up showing the recurring appointment on every day.
Simpler recurring appointments (e.g. "every Friday") work fine.
Personally, I'm just wondering what to do about these issues myself. I'd like to move to Google Calendar / Contacts, but the lack of advanced recurrences is a limitation for me.
I'm also looking at moving from Outlook to Thunderbird/Lightning, which have plugins for Google calendar and Google contact sync. Neither seems perfect though and Lightning still sees the issue with advanced recurrences. Perhaps it's an issue with Google Calendar instead of the Android Calendar / Lightning.
I can't use Thunderbird... but only Outlook because I use it for my job. Also I use a lot calendar (2 or 3 appointments/day) and have >1k contacts growing day by day for my job..
I think all other ways to do sync are less nice/suitable than HTC Sync software...
Do all other devices (non-HTC) has sync problems?? How they do??
Is possible to add Sense's sync features to non-sense roms?
up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also have a android ROM without HTC Sense and noticed the problem getting the calendar to sync. Is it possible to install just HTC Sense, or do i have to flash to a ROM with Sense on it?
another way would be desire funambol client <-> funambol server <-> whatever (kde,outlook,...)

I know it says wildfire, but it's for desire aswell.
TY found out myself, but the server have been given me a not working link.
Btw. you can see the serial number in the settings menu.
New 3.0.5422 does not sync with Lotus Notes
The new version 3.0.5422 does not sync calendar with Lotus Notes, the previous 2.0.33 did. In the new only sync with Outlook calendar is available Desire 2.2 unrooted.

HTC Sync 3 missing feature?
In 2.0.33 it was possible to do a repair and overwrite information on the Desire. I have yet to find this feature in 3.0.5422
My first sync with Outlook resulted in the duplication on the Desire of most of my contacts and nearly all of my all day events in the calendar.
Anyone know of a way to remove contacts and calendar items on the phone without a hard reset?
Rgds
Lars
i'm struggling to find how i set the sync interval on the new version too. any ideas ?

[Q] Google Calendar Support

Hello, I am wondering how well the Calendar on WM7 will sync with Google calendar... Like will WM7 be able to sync the secondary calendars and be able to properly display them in their correct color on the phone like how Android works?
Also will you be able to make new appointments on the secondary calendars?
Thanks for your help!
Windows Phone 7 currently does not sync secondary calendars from your Google account. Only the primary calendar is synced to the device. Hopefully this changes in the future.

Thanks for the info!
hopefully that does change ... google cal is how my family stays organized ...
you can't just go to the m.google.com/sync and sign in to specify what cals you want it to sync like you do with other phones?
