Memory card not being read after reboot - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Everytime my phone runs out of battery power or I reboot the handset, the phone refuses to load all the applications for the memory card. The memory card can be seen - within the settings, however the applications dont appear as normal within the menu or on the homescreen, the names of the apps are present but their each application logo of applications installed on the memory card is the same.
This is random also. Sometimes the apps show as normal, all icons load as normal. But mostly it fails. If it does load as normal, it sometimes takes upto 5 minutes for the card to 'kick in'.
Any suggestions please?

It could be to do with your sd card. What brand & size card do you have, where did you but it from and how did you first format it?
All the above may not be relevant, but some cheaper, non branded cards can cause issues!
Something you could try... I was having a similar issue, except mine would boot up with the message sd card corrupted.
Only a format would get it working again in the phone, but strangely my PC could view it, although the pc would occasionally loose sight if it!?
The only solution I found is to unmount the sd card before shutting down - Menu, settings,
Sd & phone storage, unmount sd card.
This seems to resolve my issue, perhaps it will help you too? (although it won't be possible when the battery dies I guess.
I hope that helps! Let me know how you get on!

I have the problem but I have +75 apps on the SD card, pretty chunky ones too and my SD card read/write speed on class 2/4/6 cards is down to 1-5MB/s best case when using such a forced SD card installation for most apps so I sort of expected it. In my case, it seems to be Titanium Backup causing a hold up for the rest since it is always the last to load before the rest can commence, and if it doesn't load, most of the rest don't either. For whatever reason, it can take minutes to load so it delays everything else (7 minutes is the max I've counted).
If I hit a reload SD card widget on my homescreen that is part of SwitchPro widget, everything reloads as expected so I generally use this.

how to use 4 gb memory card in dopod 818pro

Hi,
I am using dopod 818pro. But whenever i use a 4gb(mainly kingstone SD memory card) memory card, it shows, "no memory card installed". But i can use 2gb memory card (any brand).
My config is as follows-
windows mobile 6.1 professional
processor- OMAP850-195MHz
memory- 50.02 mb
ROM version- 7.0.0.7 WWE
ROM DATE- 7/5/8
RADIO VERSION- 02.19.21
RAM size-64mb
So please help me to use 4 GB memory card.
SDHC
The HTC prophet doesn't support SDHC cards (over 2 Gig)!
i'm using non sdhc 4gb card from transcend. make sure your card is not sdhc...
oh yes, but you still need a driver
hey man, if you have a normal SD card with 4GB, it still will not just work ,you needed a driver of some sort, sorry, I had it, but changed my computer some months ago. Maybe someone else has it?
do you?? i just put the card in & my prophet recongnised it.
SD
I used to have MMC and I thought the disable power management would resolve my problem of getting my files disappearing from the card if the path 2 or more folders deep, but when I changed the card to a normal SD (2GB), I had the same problems happening sometimes (but not as frequently as before), but I'm getting another (harder) problem now. I'm saying harder because this seems to be very hard to track because it happens when it wants!!
sometimes the card works for several days without any issue, but sometimes I get a blank card. even though when I look at the status I see the used space and the free space, but when I open it with resco or file explorer it's just blank.
and I even got a worse problem (fortunately it happened only one time yet). since I set the ie and opera cash to the card, these programs created their temp folder on the card again, but everything else was totally erased! I used a recovery software to get my data back!!
as I said, it happened once, but the usual problem is I just see nothing on the card until I shut down, and boot my prophet again. and sometimes it doesn't work until I do this several times.
I think I've looked everywhere to find a solution for my problem, but I didn't find any real solution for it. I've tried several roms, several cards, always getting the same problem. I don't think it's a hardware issue because of its nature. I mean how could it be a hardware issue if the data disappears without even touching my phone? if there is a hardware issue I don't think the card would be recognized at all! or (at least) it won't be recognized after I move it (causing the weak or loose contacts - if any - to disconnect) however, I don't think it's true, because the contacts are clean and tight, and like all HTC devices, the SD slot is high quality.
if anyone can offer a real solution to my problem, then I'll say he/she is the one who enabled me get the full of my HTC Prophet!
So thank you in advance. whoever you are!

SD Card = Slow Phone, solution?

Hi, I have been trying out many ROMS over the past few months to see which one is best for me and most of them have been fine until I start to multitask or navigate through the phone quickly. Then, they all start locking up and the RAM drops to under 50mb free and does not go back up no matter what I do until a soft reset. When I remove my memory card (16GB Class 6 A-Data) the ROM(s) perform flawlessly and MUCH faster. Obviously there is a problem with the phone and the memory card with slowing down. I have been in various programs and have noticed settings about the memory card and power saving and I was wondering if somehow I could have the phone just cut all access to the SD card unless I need to use it, because if I take the SD card out while the phone is on, I get the same good results. So basically I want to know if I can tell the phone to NOT use the SD Card for ANYTHING to get the same results as taking the card out of the phone and putting it in when I need it. I hope that wasn't too much, thanks.
I also have had this trouble with my phone...I have a 16 gb sd card...I have tried using an 8gig to see if it is limited to just the 16 gig card...there was no difference...I came to the conclusion that touchflo is constantly seeking the sd card from media files....but I could be wrong....I have yet to figure out a solution because when i switch to the default wm home it does the same thing.

Problem with SD card

Hi I had this phone for while and bought the sandisk Ultra 32GB class 10 sd card when I got this awesome phone. However lately my phone was acting strange. For past 4 days my phone will randomly unmount SD card and notify me that it got disconnected. When I turn on the screen then it will shortly mount the SD card and does not show these problem. Not only that these is happening consistently and keeping my phone awake and draining my battery as well. I don't have picture with me since I format my whole phone and SD card but this will happen at least 20 to 30 times in a hour.
I used to use Saurom Project Hybird 1.3.2 before and I format everything, from TWRP, and installed CleanRom ACE 4.5 but it is still happening with same problem.
Is there any way to fix these problem?
Same here

I have the same problem with a 32gb San disk, after searching all day the only conclusion I came up with is that sd card is going bad and needs to be replaced preferably for one that is not a SanDisk. I guess they are not compatible
Thanks. I was hoping that I didn't had to do that. Anyway do you have any other brand that is good?
I guess your best bet would be going with a Samsung sd card just to avoid having problems in the future.
I'm having the same problem it is not your SD card or at least I don't think so I read a different XD a thread for hey note 2 on a different carrier it was over 17 pages long of people having the exact same issue some say that the SanDisk 32 they are so then and that put in a piece of paper behind them will solve the problem but I'm not finding that word besides I find it funny it only does this when my phone is in sleep or when I'm in a phone call it is very annoying I currently am being told I have a blank SD card and sometimes later it may just work for no reason

If you're getting heavy Media Server battery usage with the unmounts, it's could be a bad media file on your SD card crashing the Media Server and causing the unmounts.
I deleted podcasts, videos, and mp3s off of my SD card and the error went away. A clean format of the card should also work.
I dont think that was my case. I format the sd card and keep it empty and mount the sd card and it was still having the problem. However when I change my sd card to my old one the error when away. I guess I got bad sd card.

Camera images never saved, disappeared from gallery.

To make a long story short, I took some irreplaceable pictures today that disappeared.
I have my camera saving to my 64gb memory card. I took a few pictures and a couple of panoramas and they ended up showing up glitchy and useless.
They didn't appear in the gallery with the exception of a few images.
It looked odd.
I rebooted the phone and tried to go into the gallery and they just weren't there. The previews showed up momentarily and then they vanished.
Now when I try to take a photo to go to my external memory, it works fine. It didn't pre-reboot.
Is there a method of:
A: Recovering my lost 10-15 images.
B: Ensuring that this doesn't happen in the future.
For the record, my card seems to be working fine. Music on it loads up quickly as well as any other images that I loaded onto it. Files open and there is zero lag. I don't suspect that the card is corrupted or anything.
Thanks guys.

You could try something like Recuva: https://www.piriform.com/recuva
I successfully used that to restore files deleted from microSD cards a few years back.

I'm unfortunately on a Mac. Guess I'll boot into boot camp and install it and give it a go.
I hope the pictures actually existed as files though and not some cached object.
Update:
Overnight, the saving issue arose again. I'm forced to use internal storage when using my camera.
I've seen this problem before. So SD cards don't work well with Samsung devices. I bought a Samsung SD card and never seem this problem again. I recommend you do the same.

I wish I wasn't broke :/
I'm using a SanDisk 64gb. Guess I've gotta dig up some cash and get a Samsung.
I don't see how this is an issue though.
What is your card formatted in? My current is in exfat. I'm thinking the format may be an issue.
It may be a kitkat issue. Google "kitkat SD card write". Root users are using a fix that sets permissions so the sd card can be written to by all apps as expected.

Right before I came across your post, I found some info on the kitkat issue with sd cards. I'm guessing that's what's causing this problem. Odd because it's the default Samsung camera that's messing up.
Oh, how I miss root. I just hope we get root soon. I'm pretty close to selling this phone and hopping on Tmobile.
I had this problem happen with very VERY irreplaceable pictures, on my backpacking trip to china, one of the most irreplaceable pictures of my entire life was taken, appeared glitchy in gallery, phone reset and it was gone.
after taking out the SD card, and doing many deep scans to try and recover the deleted pictures, it seems the pictures arent there, which leads me to believe it somehow tried to save it in internal memory (which cant be mounted as a drive, so cannot be recovered).
if you can somehow flash an older version of android (like 2.xx) you can mount your phone as a drive, and then attempt to recover deleted data from your internal SD..
yeah all i can say is ,,|,, you samsung.
I too have the same problems as the OP. And I am on SAMSUNG micro SD card! Guess it is one of those first batch gremlins?
However, I think the problem has gone away after I switch on the image "preview" option. Give it a try.
I had the same issue with a 64gGB SanDisk micro SD card. The camera would seem as if it was taking pictures but nothing was actually saved; they just shows as corrupted files in the gallery. I lost countless irreplaceable images from our honeymoon because of this. Once I switched to a 32GB Samsung micro SD card I never had the issue again, also saving the pictures directly to the internal memory solved the problem. I use the SD card for music as well so it has to be something with the phone writing to the SD card. From what I've read it's a issue with the compatability with samsung and non samsung sd cards for some reason.

Never had this issue with any of my Samsung phones (S2, S4, and now the Note 4). I'm using a SanDisk Class 10 32GB. I'd recommend pulling the files off the SD and doing a format. Download the App SD Maid as well for routine maintenance on your SD. Good luck.
My 64GB SanDisk SD card was giving unexpected unmounted errors, so I picked up a Samsung 64GB SD card. The unexpected unmount errors went away, but now I have this problem. Pictures are not saving to the SD card correctly. Sometimes it says media not found. Others the preview/thumbnail looks fine but the full view is just grey.
I am going to try saving to internal memory and manually moving to the SD card as I run out of room.

Can't move apps to SD card

On previous phones, many apps could be moved to the SD card. On this phone, Moto Z2 Play (XT1710-02), none of the apps show the ability to choose the storage location, even apps that allowed this on my previous phone. Did Motorola decide to disable this feature?

Just format the SD card as internal storage and let the phone do its thing.

Oh how I wish this were true. I have tried 2 different sdhc 32gb class 1 cards one sandisk one pyl prime performance. And the phone is saying that both are too slow for internal and that some apps may lag. Figured I see how bad the lag was because I needed the space..... Things seemed to go alright. I mean I'm not aware of any cards faster than the ones I have? Then my phone started going whacky. It reeboot and then got in a perpetual rebooting loop. I could hold power and volume down button to go to Bios and tried to book into recovery mode from there. Nope.
At this point I'm getting pissed and started freaking out....deep breathing. Ok should I factory reset? I figure I really don't have a choice. Then I figured I would try to remove the ad cards. And it worked! Only problem is that I lost some pics and some files and now it says my card is corrupted. So. Much for SD card internal storage.
Anyone got any better advice than " just put it in and let the phone work it's magic?" I don't think anyone would ever come on these forms if that little tid bit of wisdom worked. Right? ?????
I've had card configured that way for a year or two. No problems. You just need good cards. I have plenty of broken cheap sd cards lying around that would likely fail quickly under such load. I also have the phone configured to back up automatically so if it gets lost, I lose nothing. Grab another phone and restore from the cloud.
