SWYPE - out of space install error PLEASE HELP - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok, so i had swype installed and the trial ran out. i've uninstalled swype and now when i try to install ANY version i get a message saying OUT OF SPACE swype could not be installed free up some space and try again. the thing is, i have plenty of space to install swype.
i know i have read that others have gotten this, but how do you fix it? i need swype badly. thanks.

Help please

As with any computer....
Ok deep breathe,
Reboot. After that is done try again. If it still doesn't want to work you might want to use a nandroid backup and uninstall it again with titanium backup. If that isn't a option you could try installing it via adb commands (I don't remember them off hand but you can find them online)... After all that has been tried let me know if it worked...

yeah the only option is using a nandroid backup but i really really don't want to do that. it may be the only option now though so i'll try it even though its gonna be a pain to set everything up again perfectly.

You could install it as a system app using lucky patcher
But you won't be able to convert it to user app using titanium backup well I tried and it failed
That's the downside

[Q] Removed unwanted apps, Now What??

Hello and happy holidays to everyone.
I am running VaelPak 3.0 and have removed some unwanted apps that I don't use/need.
If I flash an updated version of the ROM, I will get all these apps back. My question is, is there a way I can save my phone's image as it is now so that I do not have to remove those apps manually again the next time?
Any advice will be highly appreciated.
cant you just backup your nand??
or use titanium backup..

I do nand backups, but haven't restored them yet.
Won't it just put the old apps (backed up apps) back in place and not delete the new apps that the updated ROM added?
Thanks,
i removed all the app i didnt want with titanium back up THEN did a nand backup and it restored from the point i was (without the things i wanted) so i guess you can do that..
just take the nand backup you already have and save that backup on your comp in case something ever happens..
then do another one with the corrections and updates you did and that the one without all the bulk..
thats what i did..

I will try that and update the post on how it works out.
Thanks.
They will come back forget doing nands or titanium that's the hard way. Just get an app that allows you to remove apps from your phone. I use this simple app called root manager its easy as pie and I just remove what I don't want again. Titanium can also do this I think but its not user friendly for me lol
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
yea titanium confused me at first too.. a little to complicated and still is..
i was just saying if u wanted to do the nand backup of your new and improved system its easier..
and since we on the topic of backups and removal..
any apps that can backup ALL apps and data and restore them because im about to unroot to root using Toast method so i have nand unlocked..
while I haven't tried this...so try at your own risk. In the .zip file, clean out everything you don't want and leave only the stuff you want new, or updated. That SHOULD keep them from installing to the phone when flashing. once those are gone, just flash like normal.

Isn't the file signed? I will have to sign it again, right?
I think I will just write a script and run it after flashing a new ROM every time.
Thanks,
I don't know if it would remove the signature or not...worth a try. Let me look real quick. there's already a tool out for signing files...at least it would save you some key strokes.

[Q] Titanium will not update or uninstall (fixed)

So for the past few weeks I have not been able to get titanium to update, I went to uninstall and it fails to uninstall. Anyone with any ideas? I know I could wipe but my last backup I was already having titanium problems, and it's not worth starting from scrach for one program. Maybe someone knows how to delete manually could help me out that way? I am using the donate ver. Thanks for whatever info you guys can lay on me.
Oddly, my Titanium has had a problem a few times, lately, where it won't do a back up or restore. You select one or the other, and it just switches to the list of apps.
I noticed that clearing data in Application Manager seems to fix the problem, but I hope the dev for this app figures out a fix soon.
Anyhow, you can remove it via Root Explorer, reboot, then reinstall it.
Uninstalling it will not remove your backups.
I was going to remove with rootexplore but what files do I need to delete and keep?

It should be in /system/app/
or do a search for titanium and remove whatever comes up
Thanks for the help guys. I did try updating busybox, that didn't fix it.
I deleted files in the app folder, that didn't help. Then i used the search in root explorer deleted only files that were not on my SD card. Re-booted, installed titanium (install worked this time) went to market and was able to download and update. So all is good. Thanks again guys!

help me save my apps

I rooted my phone with revolutionary and switched to cm7. I origanally used my backup root tosave my apps and it always worked. Now I have the app file but it wont open my back up. I tried to back up my apps in the stockromandit says I dont have root. Ive tried every app I could find in the market. There are a few I have that arent in the market anymore. Any ideas on how to save them?
titanium backup?
Did you back up with clockwork mod?

How did you backup your ROM? If you used recovery then you're up a creek without a paddle.
Titanium backup and start over. Best advice

I did back up in recovery. I ended up using my backup. Titanium wouldn't work. Then reopened the file with my back up root. Thanks for all the help guys. Just a newb learning the ropes.

The only app I back up is angry birds n that's just data backup. What apps do u really need to back up vs just reinstalling? I don't really see the point in backing up anything other than a game save

Your stock rom probably isn't rooted.
Restore the nandroid backup, then flash Superuser through recovery. You can find the file here: http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
You may need to install Busybox for Titanium Backup to work, but I think the developer removed the need for it. You can use a Busybox Installer from the market to install it if you need it.
Don't restore system apps or data when you restore on CM7.

[Q] Titanium Backup problem

So, i installed TB and did a backup before flashing a rom... now i try to restore things but it doesnt find them, says i dont have any apps nor data to restore... i checked the folder, and its set up on the one where all the backup files are (/sdcard/Titaniumbackup) and i see the files there, but TB doesnt... already searched for solutions, but seems noone else has had this specific problem
so anyone got any ideas on how i can solve this??
thanks!!
Where are you encountering the error? What do you do for it to tell you you have no data to restore? Can you provide a screen shot? Also what ROM were you using before and what ROM are you using now?

im using RCMix 4.0 Energized Blue version, and when i did the backup i was on stock gingerbread tem-rooted (previous to downgrading). As to what i did...nothing i guess, just went into TB and when i went to backup/restore and selected batch and then went on to look at the restore part, it says 0 everywhere (as if there is nothing to restore), i've checked the folders and the files are there, so i dont get why it doesnt recognize them... hope this helps...
Can you try going to restore them individually? Maybe its a problem with batch. Did TB come preloaded on the ROM or did you install from market ?

and when you connect your device to PC ass mass storage (or when you attach your sdcard directly to your computer) what do you see inside TitaniumBackup folder? is it empty, or are there some files inside?
I believe I know the solution.
I think I had the same problem when I flashed NRG's RCMix ROM. Its an issue with the Busybox he cooked in with it. Don't know if its a version issue, or corrupt or something. But I think I downloaded the Busybox installer from the Market, installed Busybox, and Titanium worked fine.

Now that I think about it, I may be thinking of a similar issue I had with Titanium on my HTC Flyer Tablet (after updating to Honeycomb), and not my Desire Z with RCMix. Sorry if it was a wild goose chase. But I guess no harm in trying, anyway.

Yeah, no problem... at least it was an idea... but nevermind guys, i can live without the backups... thanks anyways to everyone who tried to help!
Could you try to flash the last recovery from Rom Manager and then try the "fix permission" option?
Then wipe the Superuser cache.
For back up, I use Mybackup root and never had any issues...
Any error messages when you open Titanium? When I had the Busybox issue, I think Titanium gave me an error message (whenever I opened it) about not being able to obtain root, or something about Busybox.
Another thing about the Busybox issue I had on my Flyer. The Busybox installer from the Market that I've always used (by Stephen Stericson) didn't work for some reason. But the one by JRummy16 fixed the Titanium issue.
Again, probably won't help. But if you're still running out of options, don't think it would hurt to try.

Guys, thanks for the help, but already figured out the problem... its not fixable as far as i know... the problem is it seems it didnt create two files: <somename>.tar.gz file contains the data
<somename>.apk.gz contains the app
and thats why it can do the restoring
PD: thanks to guhl on #g2root as he pointed to me i was missing those 2 files

[Q] Need help since I'm new to Sammy

Earlier this week my Sensation 4g died. I bought a Note 2. Little did I know that there were issues with it that I and others have with it, ie: no easy immediate way to do app to sd for instance. Another thing I wanted was to be able to add or take away data from installed apps by connecting the phone to a computer via usb and accessing the files that way, which again doesn't happen without some work.
Since then I have rooted the phone (according to the download mode screen, which says: current binary and system status is custom.
I have left everything stock except for the rooting part and installed Superuser and SuperSU and then tried to run Titanium Backup (free) when it said 'could not access root using \something\something\su command".
I have tried several other apps and methods of trying to do what I want (from the first paragraph) but none have succeeded either due lack of documentation (and I didn't know how to do a certain step or fix something) or it just didn't work.
So where am I at now? I have factory reset my phone and am now honestly not sure where to go or what to do from here. I've Googled and Googled but nothing quite seems to be able to fix what I need and if it does then it has the lack of documentation and can't help me.
Any thoughts or guides or something that anyone could post/link to? Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken but kernels don't deal with being able to save apps to sd. I could be wrong since I don't dabble in android dev. Thanks though.
We need background... 1st of all...
What way did you use to root (Cf_auto_root, Stock-root injected, etc)?
Does your phone still have exynos_exploit or did your phone come with that "OTA Update" pre installed?
What SD card are you using?
What rom/kernal are you trying to run?
Most of the time, in this particular forum, its seems best to just ask what your trying to accomplish within the various rom/kernal thread...
Like lets say im on Stick injected rom/kernal without extsd2internalsd (apps2sd) setup and lets say I want to go to Jedi Master 9.... I would then go to Jedi Master 9 thread and ask for help on how to effectively apply that rom with ExtSd2internalsd support from my current setup, and wait for the OP or seniors to reply... also while "patiently waiting" I would read/search through the hundreds of pages looking for answers/insights to my particular process... if needed might go to my own root process thread and ask for advice on how to get to jedi master 9
Id be more than willing to help you here but need some background on your phones current status and end rom/kernal to provide an answer (to be sure I dont lead you awry

Thanks. I did answer that I am running everything stock at the moment, just rooted, no kernel or rom. I have an 8gb class 4 microsd card. My root method was cf auto root. I also stated what I was hoping to achieve also (in my first paragraph). Hopefully this helps.
Oh, if possible I'd like the easiest way to remove or disable system apps like chat on or some of the tmobile stuff. I tried a couple different methods with that too but couldn't quite get it all to work.
I tried the qtadb app but couldn't get my device to be seen by the program on the computer and i tried that app because I had no idea where to start with regular adb, its been a long time since i've done any of this stuff.
To remove or disable system apps I use root uninstaller, sometimes it won't delete system apps on the first try just exit the app go back and do it again second attemt will do, for your data problem I'll try root browser or root Explorer

Well it turns out you can download and install apps requiring root but they just wont run correctly, if at all. I know because after my factory reset, i downloaded and ran 2 root checker apps, both of which said I no longer have root or something. So now I'm just going through the rooting process again.
Edit: I'm not rooted again, as checked by 2 root confirmation apps. Now to try to get TB running and remove bloatware.
Edit 2: Great success! I got TB to work, bought PRO and have just frozen everything i dont need or dont use.
