[Q} 3.29 Stock kernel flashable - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched around for it but i cant find the kernel itself.
Has it been pulled yet or am i jumping the gun and should wait for the dev's?
Id like to just use the stock kernel with the true FPS fix on whatever i flash.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

I am almost positive it will not work with another rom until the source code comes out.

The stock kernel from 3.29 is in the development section on the virus Rom thread. I have had trouble flashing it tonight, but I think its because of corrupted downloads. Others have flashed it with no problem, and even got 1400+ quadrants. Virus Rom uses 3.28 base (he released one tonight with the 3.29 base, but before he released the ROM, others were flashing the kernel from it he posted). Check virus thread in development.

Thanks I have been looking for it as well.

Thanks. I'm gonna try it out.

Since FROYO Sourc has been released...

Will they be able to put the drivers for the video camera etc into the ROMS now, or the hydra kernels? I remeber hearing that they needed the source to be able to do this?
new hydra kernels were released the day the source came out, everything works in them so far that I have found.
Wait, so I can upgrad to Froyo, install Sky Raider and a custom overclocked kernel and still have video camera?
if u so desire. yes.
Froyo source does not contain ANY proprietary drivers.
I think he meant kernel source...
froyo Source.
No... He ment froyo source code, not just the kernel. see the attached link Unless i completely read this wrong...

i think...
i remember reading a while ago when we had like skyraider 1.9 that they needed the info from the 2.2 ota to make camera work. i dont think he knows that he needs the new radio. although i think you guys already stated it above. you just need the the new radio but now that unrevoked forever is out you dont need to unroot bro. there is a thread topic very easy good luck
I think what it boils down to is the question "Will we be seeing some cool roms soon?"

roms built from source code ("ground up") rather than roms made from just modifying the stock one that came with the phone

[Q] Need some help...

Ok I have alot going on over here on my brothers Epic 4G. First off i rooted it and is running ACS SyndicateROM Twilight Zone 1.0.4 (Malanga) EB13 build, im pretty sure you guys know exactly which ROM thats is, but anyways, he is getting horrible battery life and I was going to try to put him back stock and see what the newest updates for the Epic would be. For some reason whatever I do to try to Odin it never works but thats another story. Basically what I want to know is what ROM out there that doesnt really have alot of bells and whistles and that has great battery life that I can load up? Since I cant seem to upgrade to EC05, I guess i have to stick with a EB13 build.
I also know kernels has alot to do with the battery life as well and right now its running kernel 2.6.32.9. IDK just by looking at the kernel you know if it has bad battery life or what. I am going to try to wipe the battery stats and see how that works out.
Sorry for all the noobish questions. I am very familiar with loading ROMS and kernels and Clockwork and all that since im a ROM tester for the Droid 1, and I know things are similiar but I do see their are some differences. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
You probably won't get much response or get a response you don't want posting in a dev section.

some roms like midnights will automatically update you to ECO05, but a good, stock rom would have to be Simply ASOP, otherwise, just flash all the other EB13 roms. there hasnt been an update to most roms in months now though

#1. There is an update.zip to change the modem, have you tried this? I am unsure of Samsung's tool as I upgraded my modem through that update.zip that was made by ACS as well I believe, look around...
#2. Go to the ACS newest ROM (3/27) it is 1.1 I believe, and they have detailed instructions on how to upgrade, as well as pretty good instructions on Kernels, I would look at the Twilight kernel that runs with ACS well, just to keep it easy for now (although there are others and no disrespect to any others). The instructions to load the new kernel and modem will be in the ACS thread, please go there and read the first 2-3 posts that give you a good rundown of the ROM, and if you really do have some techie knowledge you should be able to easily load up the newest ROM....
I know this is the wrong section, but I'd rather help than bash, next time you can play with the forums and figure out where to post please (actually not general discussion, there is a Q&A page...).
I would really recommend ACS newest ROM 1.1 it is solid and the kernel is an excellent every day driver.
You may be having trouble going back to stock with odin die to the conversion to ectension4 try and tick the re position box if you go that route.
You won't be disappointed with acs 1,1 takira(i believe)
Peace

Each rom has its own kernel so dont fear you do not have to manually change anything yourself. Just update the rom.
Going from 2.2 to 2.3 I would do a clean wipe and not just cache and davlik. Do a search for Caulkins format all which would be very helpful when going from Froyo to Gingerbread. It will give you a clean slate to start with
Please note Caulkins format all is a zip file that wipes all data on your phone. Then you can install any rom you want and usually has less issues. Also you may have GPS issues when going from 2.2 to 2.3. Try and read up on this stuff prior to flashing so you know what your getting yourself into..
^^^^ He is right. Every ROM has a kernal already. Untill you learn more about switching them I wouldn do it yet, you could break or brick something.
Ok, well if I switch my Rom will the kernel change automatically?
Yes, a new kernel is bundled with the ROM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at this point I don't even think there are any custom kernels to install on 2.3 until the source code is released (if ever)...

Dont take this the wrong way but if you are unsure if a kernel comes with a rom I suggest you do a lot of reading up before flashing. Custom kernels are just that custom and flashed separately. Also certain kernels are for sense and different ones are for AOSP. Please try and understand that first before just flashing away. Asking questions may or may not be the way to go up in here.
I SUggest reading the stickies and threads done by people like toastch, caulkins xhausx and others similar to them. They have experience and a good track record as far as I am concerned

You are correct. There are, however, kernels with a few tweaks if I remember correctly, fixing Wi-Fi and maybe another issue (4G I think, not sure)

What ROM are you running?

Just curious what ROM fellow flashers are running so far! I'm still stock rooted and am pretty happy with the experience although I can always use a sick custom ROM .
I know there are only a handful released so far as the devs are justttt getting warmed up so I guess everyone can just give their take on whats available so far.
*Sorry if this has already been posted, didn't see anything similar. Kill the thread if necessary!

Stock rooted with battery%+crt off mod.
Once other mods and optimizations make it into the stock, like 4in1 reboot, I'll flash that.
But so far, I'm very happy with stock.
Stock, root, no mods and most bloat removed. Was on zedo's kernel, but flashed back (got some weird issues, pretty sure it's not the kernel, but need to eliminate variables).
Working on my own kernel (learning) and will probably build my own ROM off that... if/when I get time.

Ready to flash. Which ROM should be #1?

Just finished unlocking, rooting and getting my GeNex all dialed.
After all that work (I had some trouble but managed to figure it out after several frustrating hours) I am definitely ready to reward myself with a new ROM.
From what I can tell there doesn't appear to be that many.
Any recommendations on a good one to start with?
My first instinct is to go with Android Revolution HD based on the amount of pages on that thread.
I would recommend either as you say ARHD or Modaco's custom ROM's there both good ROM's and well supported. I'd also suggest if you want OC/UV then use a custom Kernel with either ROM..
Personally Im using Modaco's ROM with Francos Kernel. Both can be found in the Dev section..
Happy flashing.
P.s make a Nandroid of your stock ROM incase you ever want to return to stock.
Thanks, mklass!
First thing I did when I got CWM on there was nandroid. Thanks for the info. I haven't seen the Modaco yet so I'll check that out for sure.
Any news or rumors on MIUI 4??
