Hope this will help you...........
Instructions
1. Flash a recovery image (tested with AmonRA.)
2. Copy the .zip file to your MicroSD card and boot the phone into recovery mode (call+volume-up+power)
3. Choose "Flash zip from sdcard" and choose the zip you just copied. A guide in pictures
4. (optional) Wipe data+cache before rebooting. It may or may not work OK to not wipe data but it's propably best to wipe.A guide in pictures
5. If you skip step 4 because you are upgrading you MUST still clear the dalvik-cache because of JIT being enabled in RLS6.

How to install Rom and theme

My phone is rooted and I wanted to install a rom and theme. What steps do I have to take in order to do it? Thanks
Sent from my Droid Incredible
The instructions are generally in the first post of the thread with the download. But typically you put the zip on your card, boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, install zip from sd, then reboot.

If you are new to this and not know what booting into recovery is, then you will need to flash clockworkmod. Clockworkmod is used to do all the installing and wiping as k_nivesout mentioned
You can get the clockworkmods from http :// dougpiston . com/?page_id=85
Just rename the file to PB31IMG.zip and place it onto your sdcard, boot up into HBOOT and update when the system prompts you. (it will automatically find the file and ask you) The file has to be on the root of the sdcard, not in a folder.
once you flash the clockworkmod, then you can go into recovery and wipe data, cache, davlik and factory reset. then install your ROM (place the ROM.zip file on SD card and navigate to it)
make sure your rom matches the clockworkmod version you have, otherwise you will end up with amend script errors
Flashing tutorial

upgrading AR 6.1.1

How to flash: (Don't use ROM Manager! Flash ROM following the steps below
Download ROM and place it on your SD card
Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)
Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol down + power) In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of "Super Wipe" script
Once again select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of Android Revolution ROM After flashing process is complete, reboot the device

Click to collapse
Just to be sure:
I have installed AR 6.1.1 and want to install 6.1.5. I don't have to superwipe, right? Just copy 6.1.5 on sd, boot in recovery mode and choose the software?
Yes, you can just flash it over your current rom. Superwipe is a MUST if you come from version 5.x.x or earlier or from another rom.
Edit: It is recommended to clear cache and dalvik cache each time you perform a rom update.

[Q] where to place custom rom and gapps to install?

I'm about to install PARANOIDANDROID http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818199&highlight=i747 to my samsung galaxy s3 (i747) but i'm not sure where I should place the downloaded rom and GAPPS zip files?
From my understanding, I need to follow these steps but if I wipe cache, delvik, data factory reset, and format system.. wouldn't that delete the rom file and gapps and then wouldn't know how to get them back to the phone..
1- Download ROM and Gapps to internal sd card
2- Boot phone into recovery
3- WIPE Cache/Delvik/Data factory reset> Mounts and Storage- format system
4- Flash ROM and Gapps
5- Let phone boot, set up google Play and reboot phone (To be done right, this whole process should take 10 - 15 minutes)
Nope, if you follow the instructions you should be fine.

Well, I simply downloaded the files from my computer and was going to transfer them to my phone via the micro usb cable..
Is it safe to place them in phone -> clockworkmod folder then follow the steps I posted above?
Thank you

Just put it in the root directory of your internal, it doesn't really matter where you put it though.... with CWM you can navigate through folders.

[Q]Ensure clean ROM install

Found similar topic, but 2 years old, i dont want to rely on it in such fast-paced moving forward branch as smartphone software.
I installed few ROMS to root my phone, now when I install desired ROM i have a feeling maybe some thrash left over, since i have problems in my desired ROM.
In 'CWM Recovery v6.0.4.7' i did:
1.wipe data/factory reset
2.wipe cache partition
3.mounts and storage: format /system
After that i install my desired ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671363) without rebooting in CWM:
1. install zip (choose zip location everything goes fine, get confirmation installation completed)
2. reboot system now.
Is there any way im doing it wrong or/and i can delete more leftovers from past ROMS?
please help
Wipe your SD too, everything else looks fine.
