No... T-Mobile restricts their branded smartphone devices to approved data features... It would work for a few hours and then you would get a message saying that you need to upgrade.

Hey thanks, I was wondering the same thing. But just to clarify how sure are you about this, 100%?, do you know this from personal experience or someone told you? Thanks
EDIT: Nvm, got home and did the research. You are right it will block you out. Thanks

Personal experience. The only phone you can do this with is the Nexus One.

Or hd2 running android but that's irrelevant

yea, I dont think its possible to change the AP settings, not unlesss if you're rooted.
I think everyone is on epc.tmobile.com.... If i remember correctly.
.... still would be interesting... but I have a question for the OP, why do you want to check if that AP works? is for a cheaper data plan, or perhaps a faster domain?

It won't work sine it is a T-Mobile Branded android phone.
They have the IMEIs and will prompt you to upgrade.
Does anyone have a different experience than scrizz?
I did not know that TMobile actually enforced the IMEIs on the $10/mo plan. I know they don't for my n900.

I DOUBT if android has anything to do with it. I think they are enforcing the smartphone plan on T-Mobile phones....
I'm pretty sure if someone had a xperia x10 with AWS band they can probably walk away with paying the $10 data plan or any other UNLOCKED android phone for that matter.

If it's a T-mobile branded Android phone, IT WILL NOT WORK ON $10 web2go
I used to have the Nexus One before I got the G2. Before I had the Nexus One I was using a blackberry so i had the blackberry Internet and used to work with the nexus one and never had a problem with it. The G2 worked for a couple of hours and then it stopped working. It said that i had to upgrade my plan
Before I got my G2, I put unlimited web for phones on my wife's line at $10 per month. Then I got my G2 and gave her my rooted G1. She's had great 3G signal for a few days now without any upgrade messages.

T-mobiles "unlimited" data is throttled after 5gb anyways. The Evo is 10 months old, I wouldn't buy it at this point if you want it to be relevant any time in the future lol.
i wouldnt even think about going to sprint. if this does go thru, att will be at the top with about 120mil users followed by verizon with about 90mil. sprint only has like 50mil. Sprint is either going to merge with verizon very soon. or the company is going to break up and smaller companies like clear and u.s. cellular are going to by their shares
so we wont be able to use our current tmobile phones???

As an end user, thought that if tmobile can detect the "incomparable" plan. It must be in the rom or kernel.
Maybe someone with good knowledge can explain to the noob how this is done from tmobile end. Solution maybe possible?

Tmobile have all their phones imei number stored. If youre using their phone, they will know and make you upgrade the plan. If you use other carriers phone, tmobile cannot make up upgrade because they dont know what phone youre using.

Yeah but know they skipped it with the nexus 4 so I didn't want to assume, but idk if someone had heard word about something I hadn't.
The only reason the nexus 4 didn't have it was because it's supposed to be pure Google without carrier interference I believe. The s4 should have it as it's a tmobile phone, not a Google phone sold by tmobile (if that's a good way to put it)
Yes, it has wifi calling. even says so on the website.

WiFi calling works on any plan, if the phone has it. I dunno about mobile hotspot, I tried to turn it on and got a "you have to have this service on your plan" message. I think it's a separate thing you have to pay for, which is all the more reason to root&install an app from the play store that does it.

Let me just say this. I am an UNLOCKED phone user. Always have been. BUT here is where I got tired of the BS with data speeds and such. SO I took the plunge to a TMO branded device with the proper bands in it now.
I suggest doing the same for everyone who is NOT international frequently. It is just a waste. I want the 64gb version, but without the proper bands? Not willing to do that to myself AGAIN.

[Q] Change S4 from T mobile to Verizon towers

Hello all.
As you can see by my name, Im'a Noob! i have a good understanding of computers and cell phones and can follow directions well but have not attempted anything like this so....
Here's the deal, Today i went to Wal-mart to get a new phone for my wife. I decided on the T mobile Samsung galaxy S 4 (on the Wal-mart family plan $40 a month unlimited) . unfortunately, it apparently does not get signal at my house. What i desire to do is move it to straight talk. because Verizon does have signal at my house. So from this point, is there any way to get this Galaxy S4 to see the Verizon towers and work on the Straight talk network using those Verizon towers? And If So, Can someone please post the step by step instructions (without assuming that i know what a jailbreak or unlocking is) so that i can make my wife happy.

Can't be done
Can't be done. T-Mobile is GSM, Verizon is CDMA, incompatible networks.
Straight Talk resells service for the major carriers but for Sprint and Verizon, who are CDMA carriers/networks, you have to get phones compatible with CDMA to use on Straight Talk and vice versa for T-Mobile and AT&T.
ok how about this

Neither the T-Mobile nor AT&T variant will work on Verizon. Period. There isn't an unlock you can do, no ROM you can flash, no special code you can put in to change that fact.
For ST or Net10 to use the Verizon towers you need a CDMA phone, which the M1919 S4 is not. As was mentioned in the post above mine, you DO have the option to run off of T-Mobile or AT&T networks either through the respective carriers or use those towers via Net10 or Straight Talk; but using the Verizon towers in any way is impossible with the particular device you purchased.

Where'd you buy it? I bought mine from TMO and was told I can return it within 30 days for a full refund. As others have posted, you can't do what you want with that phone, period.
Edit: Reread your original post. If you have to have Verizon then the phone you bought won't work. Just like a AM radio won't pick up FM stations. It's that simple. Take it back to Walmart and get a refund. BUT, if you can live with using T-mobile away from home and have wifi at home you can get a T-Mobile plan and use wifi calling and internet access at home, and the TMO network elsewhere. You want to use wifi at home anyway because it doesn't count towards data or calling usage. It's all seamless, so there's no problem using it that way.
Dude seriously I find it hard to believe you don't have Wi-Fi in your home. Because if you do, your problems are solved. Your phone supports Wi-Fi calling and messaging (SMS/MMS). This is why I switched to T mobile.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe the AT&T and T-Mobile variations are able to pick up 100% of each other's bands so this argument is invalid.
