3 gripes/bugs with new ATT Tilt 2 ROM, tweaks?, any other gripes?? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Three things ive noticed since updating to the new Tilt 2 official Rom. Every time the device starts up, the "Backlight and Power" SETTINGS screen loads, as i said, every time the device starts up. Its pointless, undesired, annoying, and has done that from the start.
*(2) On the SMS tab of the new "HTC SENSE" (newer version of touchflo pretty much) whenever you get a new SMS and go over to the SMS tab, the newest message isnt ever at the top of the list (waiting for you right in front of your face) on the previous official ROM the newest SMS was always placed/focused right at top of the list for you to see instantly. Not the case with this new ROM, you have to scroll through your old messages, to the very top to read the new SMS, instead of it being right there.
*(3) Why the heck did they get rid of the task manager in the upper right corner next to the clock? Are you kidding? That was just too easy to terminate programs, and switch focus to them if youd like. They got rid of it!? Ridiculous.
Tweaks of any kind are welcome and appreciated, im sure by a few people. I am an advanced user so i would understand. If anyone else thinks of gripes with the new ROM please post here!

Try this. i have not tried it yet so i cant tell you if it works but people have said it works on tp2 w/ sense!

Thank you, i will definitely check that out. i appreciate the helpful input, instead of being told where and how to post like a lot of other people seem to like to do. I sincerely appreciate your time and efforts. Looks like a good suggestion by just checking out the screenshots.

There's already several threads going regarding this ROM in the ROM Development forum (where this belonged and has been moved to). Had you taken a moment to look you could have found them and posted your drivel in one of them instead of having yet another thread on the same subject scattered around the forums. Your Task Manager gripe is among the most well-known and easiest to fix as a cab is posted in those other threads for it. Forums have certain etiquette that members are expected to abide by and not searching and starting superfluous threads will make others call you out on it. I was not rude to you in any way.

not sure why you posted the same question.

does anyone know if or could i have the start menu on the bottom? that would make it feel more like a PC.....
No.
Use Wisbar Advanced Desktop for that
What a wonderfully non-descriptive subject line.
It says absolutly nothing and gives no clue what the post is about.
It forces us to actualy open the message and read it to have any idea what the issue, question, or information actualy is.
A new low point has been reached.
To answer your question. Two ways come to mind to move the menu to the bottom so its more like a PC.
Ignoring the fact that, if this was actualy done, the softkeys would now be in the wrong place for the hardware keys and that this question doesn't have anything in particular to do with Windows Mobile 6.
1) turn the phone upside down
2) buy a PC and use the phone as a modem.
Those are the only ways I can think of.

Wow, what a wonderfully non-helpful post. It does not answer anything, and it forces us to read it just to figure that out.

Next time u got nothin good to say, don't say anything at all.
@Zacch, ive been trolling these boards for a few months and havent seen anything of this nature. I'm not sure the phone can even support somethin like that, but if there was u would find it here.

deach01 does have a point, though. How many of us have time to actually read every single thread? I certainly don't. The only reason I read this one is because I was tempted to make a post similar to what deach01 said. If someone has a question, and they'd like to have people read the question and respond to it, PUT A REASONABLE SUBJECT on the message!
I can only think of two reasons why someone would post in a WM6 forum a subject that says "WM6" - and neither one of them is very complimentary.
The two biggest problems with public forums like this (as I see it) is A) People asking the same question over and over without looking through previous posts to see if it has already been answered, and B) People using vague or "catchy" subject lines, like "WM6" or "PLEASE GOD HELP ME!".
Well, now that I've broken one of my main rules for forum posting (i.e. keep on topic) I'll go back to work. I just wanted deach01 to know that he isn't alone in his frustration with this sort of nonsense.
Brian.
You actually can turn one of your softkeys to launch the start menu. Here's a few options:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283185
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328635
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279544
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=253613

Just a thought.

I have been trolling the forums for years and have spent 1000's of hours
reading and learning and searching...
mostly searching...
I was just wondering. How taxing would it be to have links
in the forums to entries in the wiki detailing what a given subject is all about?
similar to Tomboy notes in Linux.
where no special taging in the post needs to be made.
any word that has a wiki entry would automatically link to the article.
for instance:
while reading a forum entry about flashing a ROM, there is talk about
HARDSPLs, RADIOs, CID Unlockers, Nand, HaRET, Compcache, different
versions of android Donut Cupcake Eclair etc.... Tinboot, Flash,
CustomRUU.exe the list could go on forever.
Being able to click on the word that is of interest and lead them to a
stationary section for an answer(such as a wiki), may keep the "Stupid" or
repetitive questions to a minimum and help clear up the boards.
Instead of re-explaining how to do something every time a new visitor to the
site decides to ask noob questions, a noob would see something they don't
understand and then click on that word that links them to an article that
best describes it.
the problem is that stickies don't always stay up. good explanations don't
always have their own thread, and searching the forums usually just brings
up posts of people using those words in a sentence but not necessarily
explaining in detail what it is about or how to use it.
often there are very good posts that explain in detail certain subjects.
and if you search for them you will find them.
but you will never get rid of "Lazy" people that don't want to search for hours
reading countless numbers of non-helpful or incomprehensible jibberjabber.
and its not always a matter of being lazy. sometimes it is just damn near
impossible to find what you are looking for.but it is there....
it has just got to be.
Also, if this is possible to have setup,
when there is a subject matter that doesn't yet have an entry any
knowledgeable person that has permission to create an entry can do so.
(i am guessing thats already true for the wiki)
I am sure that may be more complicated than I am seeing it. But it sure would be nice.
I like this idea. At some point we are going to have to migrate to a new wiki (the one we have is no longer supported). When we do that, I will look into this as well. Thanks.
I think not... Cause i will always click the words by accident,
If i want to know something, i will look in the wiki myself
Maybe an option so you can choose
I don't like it either. That way it looks like some ad app has hijacked your browser and hyperlinks all relevant words for you. But, if you could choose wether to turn this option on or off, it might be an idea!
Why are you calling yourself a troll? WTF does trolling mean then? You don't sound like a troll right now.

What are you doing? just clicking around randomly at your screen as you read???
J/K
I know what you mean though... I always "Highlight" with my mouse while I read and I would get mad if I kept getting redirected when I do that.
for sure this would be a better thing if it was "ON" by default for noobs
and then you could turn it off in your user settings when you no longer need it.

I consider a troll to be someone that joins a forum just to get access to a download or to frequently get info about something and never contribute back.
I don't really consider myself a troll... when I have something of value I will post. when I get really stuck with a problem I post. but I have no need to rant about BS or make comments on things that I am not really sure about.

I agree with the above and an 'option' seems to be better.

says i have a text message but i don't

im sure this has proably been asked before. but i have the HTC Tilt 2 from AT&T and says i have a new message when i dont. i have tried deleting all the messages in my sent, deleted, inbox, and drafts but touch flow still says there is one at the bottom. i also dont have a notice for one. how do i fix this?
I have a touch pro 2 and I have the same issue. I tried calling HTC and they said to shut the phone, have someone text me an amount of times equal to what the number of text messages it says I have is, then wait 5 minutes and turn the phone on. That didn't work. I need to get around to waiting on hold 15 minutes to ask them again. :/
ive had this issue before and there is a fix for it...
1) unzip the attached file to your storage card
2) run the exe file
3) restart your phone
let me know if you guys need more help, but that should do it. it always works for me.
Worked. Thanks. Now to figure out why Visual Voicemail isn't working and how to fix that 1 hour 2 minute thing on the clock.
This sms issue has been discussed in at least 50 different threads on here. There is no way you guys used the search feature to solve your issue. The last thing this forum needed was YET another thread about this
If you don't know how to use the search feature (which if you look at the top of nearly EVERY page here on XDA you'll see the "search box" so I really don't know how you couldn't) that's built into the forums, in google do something like search "sms count problem XDA" and I bet you'll come up with threads that have the fix in it...
common sense goes a long way.
Regardless... glad you found your solution
If you want to turn this thread into condescending posts, I can post screenshots of Firefox's history from the last 2 days using the search feature for a handful of other things. Convenience goes a long way. Searching isn't the most simple thing. Things have to be worded correctly, versions have to match.
thanks puff601 the programs worked like a charm. and Aaron yesterday before i made this thread i did use the search function and i got so many pages that it would take me hours to look through. i looked through the first ten and found nothing pertaining to my issue.

Not meaning to be condisending at all... the reality is like I said.. searching isn't hard, might take you a bit but compared to what? Making a post and then waiting for someone to search for you and post the fix that's been discussed a million times? How dare users on here call people out on that!!!!
If you do a search, even just in this sub forum you'll probably find 20 threads started by people who have less then 10 posts asking about the exact same thing... The other day I looked and at the top of the post's there were 2 threads about this... this one and another one right under it. Come on! Just for kicks I punched in what I recommened above by searching in google the "sms count problem XDA" and low and behold the third link down was a link to a touch pro 2 sms problem... the first link showed what you had to look for, the "fixunreadcount" program, as did the 3rd link. Now, am I claiming to be a genious because when I had this issue way way back I did just that and came up with the answer almost right away? No, but the fact is I looked and found it.. Luck? Maybe... but before I post anything I look and look... or if anything say I loaded on a custom rom and had the issue I would post in that thread asking if anyone had the same issue. I'm sure someone would ring in!
Google Result for sms count problem XDA
You're right.. searching isn't the most convenient thing... Especially when you don't know how to search properly I'm sure that can be a real pain in the butt.
Regardless you got your fix one way or another and that's all that matters as I'm sure it annoyed you beyond belief... maybe this post will stay at the top of the charts for a while so other people who have the issue can find it right away and not have to use the search feature...
better yet a mod should just start a new sticky thread with fixes and known issues with the phones..... Update it every few weeks and it would make the forum a lot cleaner place.

You just don't get it. There's a difference between human interaction and the strict wording requirements of the search function. You seem to be so dead set on proving why a certain method works so well that you fail to understand the human interaction aspect of a forum.

Constant Notification E-Mails

I'm fairly sure it used to be, once I left the site I would get one e-mail if a thread was replied to that I was subscribed to, until I came back to the site. Now I seem to get mutiple e-mail. Over night I deleted 4 e-mails from the same thread, I've not been on XDA since yesterday afternoon.
Is anyone else getting this? Could it be Tapatalk on my phone giving the site the impression I'm always on it?
As far as I know it doesn't take into account when you've last seen the post - it will send the email instantly on reply, daily, weekly or not at all; depending on your choice.
Hmm, kind of annoying then. Not how mist forums work and I'm fairly sure its not how this one used to work either
Sounds like you subscribed to a thread and asked to be sent notifications when others posted/replied. If you don't want them anymore, just go to your User CP and unsubscribe from the thread.
But I do want to know when there's a new post. If I've not been to the forum though, I do t need go know there's another new post, and another, and another...
Most send you one email, then no more until you've visited the site again. So everyone gets and email every time there's a post in a subscribed thread? What a massive waste of emails...

This is done to make sure you always keep up on Development. Remember this is not most sites. This is a Development site and one missed post could mean the diff between fixing a java code issue or not. This has always been the way it works. Keeping up on threads is a huge thing for alot of people.
Okay, I can see a point for devs having that option, it seems odd to force it on everyone though as it will stop users from following development

Yours is the first complaint I've seen about it, so maybe it doesn't bother most people?
Maybe it doesn't. I've not bothered saying anything for a month or two, there may be others who have just not bothered to say anything
This and I think maybe Rootzwiki are the only two forums from many that do it this way, Seems odd not to have an option to do it the 'normal' way is all I'm saying.
So, this constant email notification is actually a 'feature' on XDA as per these admins. Or has this been reconsidered as POV of a general user who doesn't want his phone beeping every minute in the office?

Q & A huh? Okay I have a question, about the new format here. What the heck?

Yeah, um. I don't know how to say this without sounding offensive. But the new format this page has. SUCKS! Oh yeah, I gotta ask a question. Alright, here goes. Why is it that I can enter something in the search bar here up to the right, and get NOTHING on a subject that I know for sure is here on XDA? I don't get it, and suddenly feel retarded everytime I try to use it since. It's a good thing I have a buncha bookmarks on my PC or I'd get totally lost within your search parameters. Believe me I already have more than a few times. Yeah, I'm obviously frustrated with it enough to write this little note for all you Admins, Moderators, whoever it is thats running things around here. Look, I should be able to enter something into the search bar and find it. But someone decided to change something that wasn't broke to begin with and now it's being difficult! Take this for an example. I'm researching a project I want to start. So, usually I would first start out in the search bar. Now go ahead, I dare ya! Enter this: Samsung Galaxy S Relay. That's an "exact" search parameter. Again with the no offense but, can any one of you tell me why I get directed to some page not even related? Where'd it lead me too? How to Root Any Device. Please fix your search parameters!

Sorry you're having trouble, but I get relevant search results using Samsung Galaxy S Relay.
Try clearing your cache? A different xda theme? Or to test, try another browser?

Next to the search bar , there's a button called "search plus" , click on it and you'll have the right search bar ( the little one you were using is to search between article from XDA Portal)
Okay, I'm back for a follow up, because this seems to be an obvious difficulty and I'll bet I'm not the only one that may be having issues with this. It's a navigation thing about the current format I see here on XDA. I noticed it a few weeks ago and it's not my cache. When I'm on my tablet I can navigate fine, but when I come here on my PC it's another story, and it's very frustrating. That's why you got this question before you in such a way. You guys who may understand it having set it up know how to get around. As I mentioned before it used to be fairly easy, now it's stupid not to belittle you. The problem is that it has suddenly become difficult to search for things in a normal maner. I use the search bar, which should dirrectly link me to what I am "specifically" looking for and let's put aside the search plus for the moment. If I'm searching for something that I know is there and I type in certain words that should bring me right to it, my question is, why aren't they! I'm getting redirected to some page, often of no relevance. And here's where I'll bet this is happening to others. So what's going on? There's a problem with your search bar, and I'm letting you know it's kinda frustrating. I can navigate through here with other ways, that's not a problem. I got some bookmarked, subscribed to, ect. The issue is that the search bar in itself is broken! Whatever you guys did to it, I saw it, pointing it out! Now fix it please. This might help. I noticed a difference about two weeks ago. Not sure what it is or was. I even cleared out from my PC anything that would suggestively lead to it being my PC settings. Being a good enough percentage to say it's not, it's therefore XDA.
On a side note for all you Admins and Mods. I've been coming here over 10 years now, I got questions and suggestions. But right now my suggestion is to please eliminate some obvious confusion I've noticed that affects an average user to navigate through your search areas.
Oh! Okay, there's the sudden difference!
[QUOTE( the little one you were using is to search between article from XDA Portal)[/QUOTE]
Wow. Really? Let me ask you something about what's that all about and why did this change and for what possible reason. And then why isn't there some notice the the search bar is no longer effective as it's says it is. I'll point for you guys that the search bar says QUOTE; Type device or find apps, ROMs & more. It does not say, "This is where you go to find stuff barely relevant to what you're searching for". Does it! Sorry that this may sound offending buuut. Bad words! To me, the search bar suddenly became a joke, and a bad one at that! Articles are nice but that's not what I was looking for. And in no way was I expecting to end up there.
Okay, so here's a basic question. let's put this on the table so to speak. I don't know why you put a link to articles in the search bar in such a way to begin with. It doesn't really make sense to me. Especially with your nifty new format of where everything is, except articles I'm going to guess. So you put them in the search bar with no notice of. Can you explain all that to me? Cuz right now I'm sorry to admit, I'm kinda laughing at this. I can just imagine all you went through, even deciding on how to change the old format to what I see now. It's good. However, when it comes to the search bar, whatever idea you went with. It's one that didn't notify anyone that the search bar isn't what it says it is~!
Ignoring your saltiness, why dont you use google and append each search with xda..

I'm far from angry. But check this out. This is the Q & A section is it not? So i'm askinfg a question about a difference I noticed and the A's I'm getting are a joke! Really? Hey Wood Man? You're deflecting. Step off unless you got something relevant to say. To those of you at XDA I now have a minor complaint! You people need to read what I said. I said I noticed a difference with the search bar and could someone tell me whats wrong with it. The answer I got was a confirmation that the search bar was not functional as it says it is and that's it. So. Mr Wood Man. Did I follow the suggestion you mentioned? Ahem! Are you asking to get put down blatantly or what? I made a post, RaiZProduction made a suggestion, what may I ask you is the post after that? Mine! A follow up. Before you decide to jump in there, you might wanna inform yourself better.. This here Q & A asked, "Rather than sending a PM to an individual Moderator, please feel free to ask questions in need of Moderator or Admin assistance. We will all be monitoring this thread, and someone will reply without much delay." Well, I obviously came to the right place didn't I? Everyone has a personal preference and I used the search bar a lot.
OK, I'll stop this here.
Answers were given, some with ideas, others saying all is fine for them. And also your opinion on the search is noted. However, it seems to work for everyone else, so not sure what more to say.
And honestly, your aggressive posts are getting a bit much, so I'll end this before lines get crossed. I suggest a more respectful approach in the future Sir. :good:
