Missing icons for SD loaded apps? - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

Anyone else seeing this? I'm not sure what's triggering it, but the icons on the home screen and app drawer for any app moved to the SD card are gone, on reboot, they come back...qwerky

its a bug of android not the phone this happen with the g1 and i believe the nexus one also. At start up the phone loads the system/internal apps first then it loads the sd card apps

Same problem here
Hello!
Just found this thread while google'ing the exact problem. I have a german HTC Desire Z with the latest available stock ROM and app icons keep disappearing after being updated through the Android Market or when being moved to the SD-Card.
Is there any solution to this except moving the apps to the internal memory?
Could this be a problem with the regular SD card which is being shipped with the phone?
A colleague has a HTC Desire with a Class 10 SDHC and cannot recreate the problem.
Thanks,
bicefish

do you guys try re starting your launchers ? i remember i had this problem on my nexus and it was the only way i could get my icons back.

[Q] Installing Apps To SD Card?

Hey guys,
As you know internal memory is 1,5 GB for Desire HD. And as a newbie for DHD, May I ask is there any limitation or problem installing the apps into SD card via apps2sd or something like that? Can we install every apps into SD card?
Thanks for your replies in advance.
You can but what for?
I have about 55 apps installed right now and 0.9gb free. How many apps are you planning to install? 500?

Thanks pal, I am not sure since I have used Iphone there are many apps and games over 250 MB I thought the same for Android but I understand from your message it's not
I know what you mean I have come from a hd2 phone to the desire and loaded everything to the sdcard I have looked on the desire phone and there does not seem to be anything to say all apps or files to sdcard so I presume the desire does this auto ? or am I wrong.after all whats the point of the sccard if its just for music files and pictures and video if you cannot put all apps on this to ?
If you want to transfer apps to the SD card, just navigate to:
Settings--> Applications--> Manage Applications
Press on the app you like to transfer, and press "Move to SD card".
This doesn't work on every app, and it's not recommended to transfer some apps.
Thanks a lot.
Is there any way to find out which apss we should not transfer or the system already gives an error message If we do?
Some apps can't be moved to the SD card. These apps will have the "Move to SD" button greyed out.

Yeah, most games like Angry Birds and Pocket Legends (with some "weight") can be moved to the SD.
Don't move widgets to sd in most cases it will mess up the widget. Example poweramp widget will be messed up if app will be moved to sd, it's due to sd having delay only startup and somehow android cannot figure it out in think

Thanks a lot guys, from your experiences I understand that it's the best only games to move to SD not apps or widgets.

[Q] App icons disappear in folder

Just created a folder to put my games in and noticed that some of the icons change after a reboot to a generic market icon.
If I take the app out of the folder and add it again it comes back.
Is there a fix for this or is it a bug with Froyo?
Did you change memory cards in between? I ask because some apps get saved onto the memory card and changing it will obviously mean that ur dhd can't access it......hope that helped

This seems to happen randomly to me aswell.

No. Same card.
This only seems to happen when you move the apps to SD card moving them back to phone remove and re-adding them fixes it or use folder organiser from the market

This happened to me with Launcher Pro for apps on memory card, but if you restart launcher pro, the icons should be normal again.
I noticed this too and came to the forums for an answer, however I found my own answer.
I believe it's related to the apps with data stored on your SD card. When your phone boots up it takes awhile to check the SD card, by that time it's already checked for the icons for the programs in your games folder.
A quick solution is to hit the personalise button, then the first option marked Scene, change the scene, change it back and you get your icons back without having to drag them back out
If you connected to PC via USB, this can cause the sdcard un-mount by the DHD. Reboot will solve it.

[Q] Weird behaviour with menu icons on Arc!

Heyy guys
Has anyone noticed that if you arrange the icons on the arc when the phone is restarted the icons all move around...
Is this just me or has it happened to others?
Thanks,
Jinx13
I got same issue, upon every restart the phone shuffles the icons adding new windows and places 2 or 3 icons on window or so...
What I've noticed is that this only applies to apps stored on the SD card, anything stored on the phone memory will stay in place.

Yeah...
Is it possible to be the low-class SD doing this? The standard default SD Card included in Arc's box is Class 2 I believe.
Could higher class SD card fix this? Can someone with Class 4-6-8-10 share impression please?
It is strange tough, I'm using the SD card provided with the Arc and dont have any problems.
I read some people did have problems with the launcher but that was fixed in SEs latest android version, are you guys on the latest version ?
more people are having this problem :

Regardless the complainings about the Arc I would definitely say that is a faulty phone. I have mine for 2 mounts now and the only problem i experience is when i reboot the phone occasionally it shuffles the icons...no lag, no delay. It's a truly worthy phone.

Same problem..Sandisk class4..latest firmware
Glad to hear it's not just me lol I also have the latest version 2.3.3
I didn't actually notice that it was only the apps on the SD card that moved till it was mentioned
Using 2.3.3 here as well.
Hope this will be fixed in upcoming updates, cause its annoying...not that i restart my phone often, but nevertheless when you do you need to spend some time to re-arrange all the icons back again or just scrolling arround till you find that you need.
Depends on how many craps you have installed on you phone lol.
Brah.
Have same issue with icons.
2.3.3 did not help at all.

[Q] VRKindomRevB1.3, SD apps have generic icons

Hi Everyone,
I'm a noob guys so please excuse me if I posted to wrong forum or if answer is availabe to my question here. I have looked and found few threads but some of the solutions mentioned did not work or involved rather cumbersome process of installs, tweaks or partitioning SD.
My issue is with VR Kingdom REVOlution B1.3 First of all I absolutely love this ROM so cudos to the developers as this is the best ROM I have tried. Seems very stable, all my apps work (at least the ones I have chosen, especially TelNav GPS for Sprint. Wireless is still on and off, at this point I think it's the hardware or my router. Beeing stricken with a slight case of OCD I have not yet found a way for my icons poiting to my apps moved to SD card via the phone's app manager or Superbox etc. to display their icon image. They are all fine in the main apps folder, I create shortcuts to them by holding them down when on desired screen, they appear fine with right icon. When I power on and off they stay okay, however, when I power off to change my battery or chosing the green restart button (close all apps and restart phone) after that reboot my SD card mount fairly fast, pictures, song etc. load fine but for some reason the shortcuts to my apps on various screens now have a generic Android icon. The apps launch fine, but the icons never regain their image unless I recreate the shortcut. That I won't do every time I need to reboot but will not sleep till I find a fix. I know it has to do with the SD mounting after my theme, wallpaper, skin etc. I had the same issue with the Ti-X_GBSenseOTA-V1.3 ROM (was no crazy about that ROM, left me with 7MB in system folder, fat and full of errors)
I also upgraded to a 16gb class 4 micro SD. Only thing I did was copy my 8gb SD cards files to it. Not sure if that was the correct way to do but apps, pics and mp3 etc. seem to work from the new SD fine.
Anyone have a solution or suggestion ? I can't flipping sleep like this..lol It would be very appreciated.
Please help
Thanks in advance,
Julian

I am assuming you have an EVO 4G? The best place to ask question is generally on the general section of your phone's forum or in this case the development thread of the ROM.

I am not sure of a permanent fix but if you change the scene (long press on an empty bit of a home screen) choose the scene menu and choose a new scene, Then just go back to your original scene. Quicker than recreating your icons...

Rooting and low memory

I searched a good bit, but couldn't find the answer to this specific question. Will gaining root access get rid of the low memory error? I'd just ignore the error, except it keeps the gmail app from syncing. Sorry if it's a dumb question. I was hoping the 2.3 update would fix it, but it doesn't sound like it does, and now it's starting to sound like I may never get it! I may have to take the plunge and root....
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Gaining root itself won't fix the error. However, many custom ROMs have it fixed. Not sure about the Sense ones, but the AOSP ones such as MIUI or CyanogenMod do.
Thanks for your response!

I don't think moving apps to SD works. I had it with a ROM I used and it's not an actual case of low memory. A ROM with the fix does work. I'm using one of WildStang's and it's working great.
Moving apps to the SD card will help (not fix) the issue on 2.3 roms because the .lib files are now moved to the SD card from the /data/data folder (they weren't on 2.2).
Once you get close to the 150mb limit in the /data/data folder you will start seeing the notification (or a bunch of force closes on AOSP roms)
Also the app "not enough space" can alleviate the problem, or an automated cache cleaner.

You mentioned the bunch of force closes on AOSP roms, I had this problem a few times with MIUI and CM7 where out of nowhere it would force close everything and the phone was unusable. Is this related to cache? I read that it might be corrupted contacts that caused the issue.
Man, I can't figure it out this time. Had the DI for 18 months, and I've always been able to fix this - facebook, contacts, or just trace it back to the most recently installed app. This time I can't figure it out. It's so frustrating - 18 months ago and went ahead and spent the extra money to get (at the time) the most powerful phone I could find as far as memory, and got the 32g card to go with it, so I wouldn't have to worry about this. Now I've got plenty of memory, but my phone doesn't think so!
I'm scared to death to root. I'd love to start messing with ROMs, but I'm scared to brick it, I'd be screwed.
Thanks for the responses....
possible fix
You should check out jermaine151's Stock+ version 2.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1260994. I can't personally vouch for it as he just released it and it's a little late to start reinstalling everything, but it looks promising.
This mod will fix the low space problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315372
I have been using it for about a week and no problems at all. Phone seems snappy and no annoying low space issue. It basically resizes the small partition to a bigger one. So no more low space notification.
