widget similar to Program Monitor - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I think I saw a similar post in the "general" section with no replies but I thought I'd try here.
I'm trying out Launcher Pro and things are nice, except for the fact that I got very used to having the Samsung TW Program Monitor widget around that told me how many programs were running and clicking it took me to the task manager where I could kill individual programs (and not everything at once). Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm tempted to just go back to the touchwiz launcher...

I would also like to know of an app that is like the tw program monitor, just something simple and easy to use
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

The ONLY TW widget i liked was the program manager one!
But it isn't worth going back to Touchwiz from Launcher Pro though.
I've been looking for a suitable widget similar, and will report if i find one.

search for systempanel in the marketplace

If you're using launcher pro then you can still access program monitor only thing is that you won't have it as a widget. From launcher pro simply hold the home key until the task manager window pops up. Click on task manager and you're back to program monitor.

Thanks but I was hoping for something more widget like. I've also noticed that you can sort of select is as an "activity" in Launcher Pro but it just gives you a shortcut to the widget in like a different dimension and that's not very useful...
Been getting used to Task Manager (an app by Rhythm Software, not the stock one) and it's pretty good. I think by default if you click on the widget before opening the program to mess with the settings it just kills everything which is sort of scary but the settings are easy enough to figure out. Instead of how many programs are running the widget tells you how much RAM is free...same gist I guess!

I don't know if it's the app or some other random thing but the battery life on my un rooted epic drastically increased. I wonder what this program is killing...

Process Monitor Widget
This app is a widget showing how many apps are running and how many of them can be killed based on an user-defined exclusion list.
It is available in Market and still a beta version at this stage.
It has many other features and allows you to record process activities to spot badly behaving apps.
Also can show memory consumption (from SD, internal and live memory) as well as CPU load.

Yea I would like that too. Dont think one widget is worth switching to TW from LauncherPro

Process Monitor as task manager
After many testing, I found out that Process Monitor Widget is more accurate than most other task killers, such as System Panel to name one, which do not take into considerations the deep-sleep time in their calculations!
Indeed you can verify phone/app up-time in the settings/phone info/battery... and in any system panel... After a deep-sleep, the figures are different except in Process Monitor Widget.
Just to let you know

Disabling TouchWiz? [with video]

Hey,
I found this video on youtube:
On the left it shows the Galaxy S without TouchWiz.
So it seems possible to disable TouchWiz.
Can you confirm that?
could that be one of the launchers installed?...looks nice though
I think like the poster of the video has written, it's the app LancherPro
thanks for confirming that u need to read up more.
Just an alternative launcher as ADW or LauncherPro...
Touchwiz is still probably running in processes...
oh thanks,
I havn't read the comments.

But will it disable touchwiz, or will that run in background and eat power from the battery, if so, it's no point running an extra UI on top of touchwiz.
for now, just remove all widgets from TW, and reduce all the screens available. Then run ADW or LP...the battery drain from TW is actually pretty negligible.
LauncherPro works great
I have installed LauncherPro. Works really great. I made it default application for home button and killed the default launcher service in the taskmanager. After rebooting all lag in opening applications was gone and the default launcher didn't started Now only LauncherPro working...
I'm expecting my phone tomorrow and I'd also like to get rid of the samsung interface. Launcherpro looks good. Does anyone know if Beautiful Widgets will work on this phone? (levelupstudio.com/widgets/weather)
Will you lose things like swipe and layar when you you install an app like that? And sorry for the noob questions, this is my first android phone.
Beautiful Widgets is running great on mine with launcherPro.

Hmmm, and how to enable the TW Launcher again in case it's not automatically started after a reboot?

Thanks
I'm using LP and after i read this topic i went to
Setteing > Applications > Manager applications
then change the filter to all and scroll down to TwLancher
then u can Force close it BUT! i think this will effect other parts coz as we all know we use TW in the contacts list, call log and the dailer.
So after u close it u cant use this features like swipe to call or swipe to msg and i cant live without them , well thats wt happened with me, i swipe but it do nothing! and after i relaunch it it didnt work also so i restart my phone and its ky now
so if u use them "there r diffident dailers if u like to use" dont swich off ur TW launcher.

(Q) Start menu equivalent.

One of the things I miss most from winmo is that, on WinMo, you always can access your 'all programs' drawer from the notification bar/start menu. You could use your phone heavily all day and only see the Home screen once.
I've searched high and low for an Android equivalent, but find nothing. Anyone know of anything?
Closest I've found is multitask manager, it attaches to search button, and let's you put preferred apps in it, but you can't put 'launcher' or 'rosie' in it.
Anyone know what I'm trying to describe? Or have any suggestions ?
Thanks
Also, I just realized this is probably in wrong subforum, toast or MOD, feel free to move it. Thanks. Sorry.

i am not sure the question here. are you saying you want it so that you have to go to the home screen to launch the app draw or are yous aying you dont want to have to go to the home screen to launch the app draw?
I am not sure what you are using but i dont have to go to the home screen to launch app draw. also you may try playing with launcher pro you can set up the dock to have apps on it. i use a combination of app organizer and launcher pro. I have the favorites group mapped to my dock and then i can favorite apps and get to them from that dock button. Works well for me.
I think you can set up the Power Strip app to show your app drawer.

He means he wants a universal way to access the app drawer from anywhere. In WinMo, the start icon / app drawer is always on the status bar.
Yeah, awardtour, you nailed it. Thanks. I see i accidentally used a double negative in my OP, making it confusing.
Yeah, i want to be able to launch my app drawer from the notification bar, or search button (any 'button' that is always present).
I use adw EX and LPP a lot, but have never found a way, within android, to acheive this functionality. If anyone knows, please share. Thank you.

I'm not sure of the name, but I'm pretty sure there's a gesture based app launcher on the market (or maybe here) somewhere that allows you to program a gesture to a app launcher so no matter what you're doing you can swipe the gesture and have an app menu come up. I'll see if I can find it for u.....

Hell, without even using the wave aspect, if you just hold the hotspot for a sec (to launch wave) it'll automagically open app drawer! !!!! Pure awesomeness. Just thought I'd share and thank.

[Q] Program Moniter

Went looking for this issue but couldn't find an answer so hear it goes, Was wondering if using a replacement launcher to touchwize, is there a way or maybe an alternative program like program monitor? I really enjoy that as a way of keeping tabs on what/ programs are running and is very useful. However using an alternative launcher wont allow for that program to have a widget.
Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Go launcher ex has a progran monitor in its app drawer. I also think miui launcher (found here on xda) has a program monitor widget.

Double click or gesture to bring up Task Manager?

I don't like to hold the home button to get the task manager. Are there other options like double clicking or maybe a gesture? I'm using Go Launcher EX.
I had Apex Launcher on captivate and saved my settings from there where swipe up would bring up my task manager. It worked on my S3 as well but if i reset my settings to blank i wouldnt be able to save it...
the best thing to do that might work which im gonna try since i just switced to Go Launcher is to bring my settings over to my captivate and then use the task manager as the swipe up gesture and then load the settings saved from there back on my device.
I'm using nova prime and I have double tap to open up recent apps works perfectly

Back in the Nexus S days I'd always hope that a dev would switch out the search key for recent apps, but this app totally makes up for the lack of that hardware key!

So this is how I run my phone. I gesture everything from the right side of the phone since my thumb is always there. Lower half leads to 12 shortcuts that I always use. Swipepad beats going to the homescreen. And top half has multitasking options. Remember to hit the thanks button if you use either of these apps. Both are free

You could always put a shortcut to the taskbar onto your desktop.
I put all my favorite apps into folders on my launcher.
The stripe at the top left is a slider for my screen brightness.
This keeps my desktop clean for when I use my animated fishtank desktop.
You can also use wave launcher btw. You can just swipe to bring it up

I'm not sure if its considered a task manager, but my newest app does contain a Recent Apps feature.
Here's a link to a preview video I made http://youtu.be/UIEIqQYU0ZI
You basically create gestures to do all kinds of things and you're also able to move the little Trigger to quick-activate a gesture.
In the video, you'll see that if I drag my Trigger icon up and release, it'll launch out Recent Apps even if I didn't create a Recent Apps gesture. You can customize that part however you want.
Besides Recent Apps, other features are
Launching Apps
Changing Settings, including a whole Profile
Creating and launching App Panels (In the video I set the drag right action to be launch an App Panel that holds all my apps, so I can access all my apps no matter where I am)
Pulling Notification Bar
Opening a Webpage
And just... a whole lot more. The beginning of the video is a preview of the gestures that can be created.
The app will be released as soon as I am able to fully test out all its features on my Galaxy S III that is arriving tomorrow. Release date should be in the next 2-3 days and no later than the 15th.

What you can do that i did is you can save your Launcher settings to your SD card and go back to your previous galaxy S and load it there.
I had Slim ICS on my Captivate and had gotten Task manager to install on the phone. Since it became a actual app it showed on my list for gestures. I saved the settings back to the SD and transferred back to the S3 and works .. just dont remove the gesture in the options in your launcher on your S3 or youll have to reload the settings again !

Hi Mr "Task Changer Titanium" Developer
I just bought a license and gave 5 star reviews on the app and the license app .... I got the thank-you pop up with the license number, telling me to enter it into the settings ... but I don't see anywhere in the TCT settings to enter it and I am still getting the periodic pop-up saying "you need to buy a license to run this ...."
JUST SO happy to have a touch/capacitive HOME solution again !!!

Using V10 Second Screen App Shortcut for Quick Popup Widgets

Using the app called Popup Widget, I'm able to quickly place any kinds of widget directly on the second screen, since we can easily move back and forth app shortcuts from the second screen and home screen, but that mainly applies to the stock launcher only, tried with Nova, but didn't work. Anyways, here's a video showing an example of creating widget and placing it into second screen and works fine.
https://youtu.be/mX-diQEANw8
The app is called Popup Widget, and can be found on the Play Store.
Credits @klark1kent for the idea of implementing custom widgets on the second screen using Zooper and Tasker apps. If you want, you can head over to his thread in the link below for an in-depth guide using Zooper Widgets
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/themes-apps/screen-custom-app-icons-widget-t3269726
Update: So, I've created a new video that actually allows you to add more icons/shortcuts to the second screen. So take a look over at the link below.
https://youtu.be/nuo0IAhwUR0
The app is called SiMi Folder Widget, and can be found on the Play Store.

The idea was actually from your thread, so got to thank you for that idea that you actually came up, and I was looking around for other alternatives instead of using Zooper and Tasker, and Popup Widget sort of solves the issue for me. And also having to place any kind of widgets on your second screen really helps in situations where you wouldn't want to get kicked out of other apps, let's say if you are messaging and you want to quickly see some new tweets to freshen up.

That's exactly what I said in thr original thread. I used popup widget also but hey I'm happy you liked the idea and clearly I didn't create a guide initially because I wanted to get it out to the community as soon as possible anyway I agree the options are endless... The only thing about just using popup which I alluded to in the other post is that it wasn't working with other launchers and zooper allows you to create your own widgets and add them to popup instead of relying on system default widgets. Let's keep the innovations coming though but yeah I was surprised you essentially jacked the idea with zero credit. Thanks for making it right

I haven't tried, but would think you could make a widget from Zooper, then use Popup widgets utilizing your custom zooper widget

As those are LG-based Widgets, which is lockdown only to stock launcher, Popup Widget can't recognize it as a proper widget, only universal ones work.
Hence sadly it's not possible to actually get those into the second screen.
