[Q] Doubt about radio - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi there,
I am quite new to this HTC and WinMo world and have a question about radio versions:
Higher version numbers are always better than smaller ones? Or at least newer?
I have flashed Gen.Y R2.6 and the author recommends radio 1.13.25.24. My current stock is 1.00.25.08.
The higher one is better? How do i know that? Witch one should i use?
My device is the HTC Touch Diamond, BTW. Claro carrier, from Brazil.
Thanks in advance.

The radio you have it is maybe too old 1.13.25.24 is good when its recommended by ROM creator. I also have very good experiences with latest offical radio 1.09.25.23 and also with 1.15.25.14. On the other hand very bad experience with 1.17.25.09 radio. But I am from Europe...
After you install the new radio don't forget also to install appropriate rilphone for this radio, it is very important.
For more information search the radio thread, you can find it here.

ROM, Ext.Rom, Radio ... Difference?!

Hello,
I just want to know what is the difference between ROM, Ext.ROM and Radio
I was checking imate site and found the new ROM which they say it's the original one but the Ext.ROM version in their site is newer than the one I have. The others (ROM, Radio) are the same.
Thats way I want to know the difference between these 3 things.
Thanks in advance

WM6.1 ROMS - Why remove radio?

I have limited experience with ROM flashing - so please pardon this question if it is dumb. I have searched but have not found a good answer to this question.
I have flashed to the latest Kavana ROM, and find it excellent. However, I still have my original T-Mobile (WM6) Radio onboard.
Can someone explain why the ROMs are being built based on the latest Brightpoint ROM but are not including that Radio version. 03.07.90 I believe is the radio version.
I even saw in a Wi-Fi thread where Kavana had actually recommended to someone to install that Radio on top of his ROM - but yet it is not part of the ROM update.
Is there a reception issue with that radio? OR, is there a problem with flashing radio ROMs?
Thanks in advance.
To be honest, i used to wonder why too, but if you just want a ROM and don't want to change your radio version (in case you actually have no problems with your radio version) then that's why they are split. Some people have side effects sometimes after updating their radio version. And if all ROMS had a radio, then you'd be stuck with whatever radio it came with. Now with the official ROMS they do have a radio included (most of the time) but a lot of cooked ROMs will exclude the radio simply to focus on the functionality of the device , not necessarily the device's connectivity

if you don't like the tmobile radio (who doesn't right?)... you could just flash the latest wm6 rom by HTC which is way better than the tmo rom and slightly better (depending on who you ask) than the rogers rom... which will give you the latest radio, and then flash with kavana's rom to get wm6.1 on there.
you can flash just the radio... but i think i read someone say that it causes problems with kavana's rom so best to just flash the full HTC rom and then upgrade to 6.1 from there.

Keats -- do you know what some of the updates to the radio are between the stock (v4.1.13.34_02.79.90 on mine) and the one included in the wm6 rom from HTC? When you say it's "better" -- how so? I have no problems with either GSM radio or wifi (though my signal strength was much better on ATT...)
not specifically. i think the radio differences just ammount to better reception in general. actual funtional differences have nothing to do with the radio and are specific to each rom.

Rom 1.35707.3 Wwe?

Just received my New Diamond 2 hours ago from China. The ROM is 1.35.707.3 WWE dated May 28, 2008, Protocol 52.26.25.09H, and the Radio is 0.93.25.NS26.
Is this ROM newer that the ones available in the forum?
I tried to run MIOMap3 and TeleType GPS on it but didn't work. So I'm thinking of reflashing it with ROM WWE_1.37.405.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26a.25.09_1.00.25.03.
Or should I keep it?
Is fo then why MIOMAP does'n work?
Teletype will not run on the diamond no matter what rom you use. Can't answer to MioMap as I don't use it but I understand that it is the same as iGO8 which will not run on the diamond. TomTom 6 or 7 and Garmin XT work.
Your OS is a newer build but your radio is older.

Thanks for your swift reply.
I read in some forums that Destinatior works fine as well as Garmin.
The problem is that only IGO/Miomap and Teletype are only S/W that have a detailed map for Egypt (where I live).
On the ROM side, do you suggest that I upgrade the Radio?
Thanks again
You have an 1.35 version, so its older then the 1.37 version. So upgrade everything. The 1.35 stock i got was very bad.
Sorry I didn't notice it

Do you think they implemented any hardware improvements in the new stock?
I have the option right now of buying a Touch Diamond with the 1.35.707 ROM. Should I wait for new stock with the 1.37.405 ROM?

No they havent and they wont. The only Diamond that will be different to the Asian/UK/European models will be the American version which will support a few missing bands that the current Diamond does not have. Those missing bands are barring American customers from using 3G.

So I shouldn't worry about buying a Touch Diamond with the 1.35.707 ROM? ... and I can easily upgrade it to 1.37.405?

Noob question - latest ROM (WWE)

Sorry for the noob question - feel free to flame away
I'm looking to upgrade my HK Diamond ROM. Is there any advantage in flashing the HK or Europe version of the ROM over each other?
Is the WWE Rom 1.37.707.1 the lastest WWE ROM available for the diamond?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401425
Thanks!
Another noob question
Had a look here:

How do I know if I'm a DIAM1400 or DIAM300 user? Is there any requirement I need to flash my ROM? (ie other software eg Hard-SPL etc).
Thanks again

as of today the latest stock HTC WWE ROM is to be found here:

guys thanks for all the help
i now have this working despite being sure that the proxy was unchecked in the t-mobile settings.. this was not the case amongst the numerous hard resets the settings must have auto-populated
removing this has solved the problems.
my sync issues are fixed and am connecting through to hotmail and gmail too
i think i can now call my first mobile flashing a success
the benefits over the 1.34 ROM are clear and this 1.37 ROM is how the phone should operate. I will wait for the guides before looking into flashing the radio which i think will deliver more benefits
once again thanks to all
glad to hear of your success.

As I know - Diamond140 - this 2G Diamond (only EDGE, no HSDPA).This Diamonds HTC sells in India. I don't know - only software (but I think yes) or soft and hardware difference
IF I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong):
Try installing HardSPL, flash with a regular 3G rom.
IF it's the same hardware, it should at least connect you via edge.
If not, you won't get any network coverage.

Do a hard reset and it should be written on the boot screen if it's a diam100, 140 or 300.

One question concerning the Oficiall-ROM flash.

Sorry for asking, especially when there is high probably an answer somewhere here already... however I've been searching but couldn't find the information I need...
I have an German o2 Diamond with:
ROM 1.37.207.2 GER
Radio: 1.00.25.03
SPL 1.37.0000 (DIAM300)
And I want to install the latest official HTC english version ROM with radio, suitable for the central Europe region. What would you suggest?
RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship?
And my question: is it necessary to install any SPL (HardSPL) primarily in this particular case? (When replacing an oficiall ROM with some other only?)
If yes, what a version of HardSPL should I use then?
Can you help me? Many thanks in advance!
Best regards, Marek.

ROM choice is OK.
Since you are going from GER to WWE I think HardSPL is needed. You could try first without HardSPL of course.
I would recommend the 1.24mfg, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408621.
If that gives any problems use the one in my signature.

Is there really no one who has/had the same problem/question?
(It seems to me it's a kind of quite fundamental question!)
Or... is it safe just to 'try' to install another oficiall (e.g. WWE in my case) ROM without any HardSPL?
(I guess I am not a freak but rather a careful user ;-)
May I get also some more info about the SPL versions? Is it necessary/recommended to have e.g. the 'same' version of SPL and ROM?
Thanks for any reply!
Marek
