ADW Launcher vs Launcher Pro - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of both launchers.. I might give them a try sometime next week..

you can try yourselve both its better than reading. ADW Launcher users tell you adw is faster beter etc and LP userr tell you the same about LP just try it.
I use adw about 1 day and I change to LP becouse I dont use all options on adw he have a lot settings Lp is easyier for me.

or try zeam very quick and low memory usage

If a launcher doesn't have touch wiz like app drawer it's useless. Hundreds of apps aren't manageable in other ways.

I choose ADW because it's more smooth when swiping between homescreens. And there's a lot of themes for this launcher, too. I have tried LP but it's not that good. It has better widgets though.

I switched to ADW, launcher pro just isn't as snappy. The app bar is a nice feature too. Launcher pro does have some nice widgets though.

Launcher PRO PLUS for the widget and popup!!!

But it does have the very cool scrolling 3D app drawer where everything is in alphabetical order. I find it much much easier.

Launcher Pro has really nice widgets. Also ADW hides the status bar on me every so often - not sure why... very annoying and makes it unusable.

This is what makes touchwiz a great launcher.
I really hope LP follows suit, I need a customizable app drawer.
btw, ts I use launcherpro, /w donated version.
The widgets that come with lp are irreplaceable

I've tried both and love that lo is capable of hiding bloatware apps. Since I'm new and not into rooting, I like that I can get crap outta my face if I don't want it!

But the fact that you can't hide icons make it horrible for me. That's a major reason I use LauncherPro, apps that already have homescreen shortcuts or that I don't use wont clutter up my app drawer.
ADW has the same feature I believe, I might try it sometime.
The actual process of organising apps in touchwiz into some reasonable order is so slow and painful that I couldn't stand to do it anyway. Alphabetical order with all the crap hidden works just fine for me.
A nice feature that was added recently to LauncherPro is changing the grid size in the homescreens. You can use that to get more fine control of your widget positions and to fit more shortcuts and widgets. You can choose whether or not to re-size the widgets according to the new grid as well.

i personally like LauncherPRO better than the rest.
it works & feels very much alike ZLauncher from PalmOS
it has all the options i was exactly looking for.
well worth the $3 for the extra features, even though i don't even use them

I use LP plus.
I´ve used the option to hide stuff that I install, and insted have a folder for games and one for tools on my home screen. means that the app window wont get cluttered up.

Both are really good and I won't say one's better than the other.
I've always used ADW since I owned the Magic and the launch of the Galaxy, and in that time I've flirted with LP but alwys went back to ADW, however, last week I tried LP again and I've stuck with it this time.
Basically I can't choose between both but I'm extremely happy using either, try both and make your choice.

hi
what you can do is :
creat folders on the last home screen for exemple.
lets say a games folder : stick all your games in it, and go to LP settings, take the link for the game apps you put in that folder and hide them so they dont apear any where else.
i dont know about adw but LP has scrollable widget possibilities and combined to some market aps it really is neat.
as usual its allways a question of personal preference.

your disappearing dockbar is probably due to you pressing the app drawer and swiping upwards. Just go to ADW settings and disable the dockbar. This dockbar is a relatively new feature that enables you to have 2 dockbars (something similar to the scrolling LP dockbar).
ADW has a custom groups feature in its app drawer so you can select what apps you want to see. Unfortunately you can only view one group at a time, but its definitely a much better way of organising your apps than just in alphabetical order. And you can hide apps easily this way too. I really like ADW's swipe actions on home screens as well, last time I tried LP it didnt have this option.

Despite all the features of ADW, Launcher Pro feels just way snappier. Its customisation settings are well enough. The widgets are good too.
Too bad it's not open source like ADW. A may goto ADW when the animations are made smoother.

Just wanted to post this , It is on the market too. Very nice launcher with sideways scrollable dock and pinch to select different homescreens.
and of course very speedy.
the xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664149
I´ve been using this for awhile now and i think it much smoother and faster than LP. I really recommend this homescreen!
I just downloaded Zeam and I'm test driving it now. That and skyfire browser. Both look quite promising so far.thanks for the recommendation.
Just downloaded this and it is now my default launcher, thanks very much
I really should change my signature as I dumped the Blackberry for Android
I just found this other day, Man I've been missing out on some speed!
I've been a fan of LauncherPro for a while and brought it even though I never use any of the widgets that come with it. Sure LauncherPro is AWSOME but Zeam blows it out of the water purely based on speed. I sometimes run out of memory and LauncherPro reloads itself or has a fit (hey the developer even knows this so he's doing a complete rewrite of LauncherPro NOW) but with Zeam I have yet seen it reload itself due to lack of memory, and even if it did reload itself its hell fast!
Zeam full screen mode with LCD Density Changer set to 180 and a decent Clock wdiget makes my sgs look all so pwetty and no fear of ram issues as Zeam only uses 10megs while the Best launcher which is LauncherPro uses about 22-30megs. Sure Zeam don't have ALL the features and widgets that LauncherPro has but damn, with the extra speed and ram you can find 3rd party widgets
I give this launcher two thumbs and toes up

make zeam the default - sort of
Hi,
I also love Zeam, but would like to make it my default launcher. When I reboot my Galaxy it still comes up with twlauncher as the default interface.
Can anyone tell me how to make zeam launch rather than twlauncher?
@ninereeds did you check the box that says "use by default for this action"? if so then it will go into Zeam each time.
i think you can only do this once otherwise it goes to tw launcher. if you missed out then the simplest way would be to uninstall zeam, then reinstall, press the home button and it will ask you again what do you want to open.
hope this helps
Does this launcher have a selection for Swype up-applications ?
Im using ADW and in swype up i have enter an application which is very usefull for me...(its a screen off application and with a swype up with my finger on the screen the phone closes)

You need to download Home Switcher from the market, you can then setup Zeam as your default launcher from there, when you reboot Zeam will be the launcher plus Home switcher is Free
Definitely my new launcher! Great post! Love the bar at the bottom!

home switcher doesn't work with froyo though, incase you are using froyo.
otherwise works really good on elcair
I'd like to switch over from LauncherPro to Zeam and try it out again, but I can't make do without either the Samsung widgets or those of LP. If anyone can guide me to third party widgets for friends streams, and other widgets like in LP, I'd love to give Zeam another go...
Gave it a try. I liked it until I tried to find a way to hide certain apps from the app drawer. Looks like that's not possible, so back to LauncherPro for me.
Maybe in future it will get more features, then I'll take another look at it.
WOW miles fast than Launcher Pro. Only setting I'm missing is the hide apps in app drawer which I can live without given the speed improvement and the awesomeness of that bottom bar.
Impressive and certainly has potential but needs more customisation options to be able to compete with ADW & Launcher Pro in my opinion.
Hi,
if you would like to make Zeam as your default Launcher you have to use ClearDefaultHome (Market app and it's free). It's the same as HomeSwitcher but supports all Froyo releases.

What launcher should I pick?

Hi I've now tried 4 different launchers and I can't make up my mind.
What launcher is generally the best, keeping up the speeds etc?
I just can't make up my mind. Any good suggestions?
I use LauncherPro on mine and really like it
Don't know about what is the "best launcher", whatever you like/feel most comfortable with.
I use Launcher Pro myself with Desktop Visualizer to theme my phone.
Have been a big LauncherPro fan but have recently been using ADW EX ..... its very quick and very pretty (great animations etc)
Try them all and see what you like

Top 3 for me. ADW EX, GO, LauncherProPlus.
as a launcher i find the newest adw very smooth.but as i love the launcherpro plus's widgets,i choose it
I'm using launcherpro free version and it has everything I need as home app.

I just love the ADW EX version with all it's animations and smoothness. The developers that combines these things with LP+ widgets gets my vote. Now I just switch between them depending on mood.
Zeam was an excellent launcher on my low-end Pulse, it ought to make the Defy grow wings, but it's not that customizable.

I use zeam. Have used a few and this one does what i want it to do.
Just try a few different ones.
After reading the fora, I went with what seemed like the majority consensus, and on the third day of owing my Defy (my first Android phone), I bought LauncherProPlus. That was couple of months ago, and LauncherPro is all that everybody says. Now, I just installed the Go Launcher, and I have to say that it's superior. The two are so similar in concept that it might have been the same team that designed both, but the Go Launcher, in addition to doing everything that LauncherPro does, has features that make it much more useful and nicer to use. It has, for example, an intuitive interface for organizing apps into folders, in addition to hiding the unnecessary ones. Then it has a couple of settable gestures, the swipe up, and swipe down with which one can hide the notification bar, for example. It's 5x5 icons on the home screen implementation is flawless, unlike in LauncherPro, and the widget resizing method is also easier. Just nice touches all around, and none of them gimicky.
i use adw launcher ex their are so manny different options if you like playing with them you can get it just how you like. its also the speediest i think
I would try HE launcher its free and simple. It has the best of all worlds.

I tried Launcher Pro, LG Home, ADW and of course the standard Motoblur...
I'm kinda after something quick and smooth, doesn't have to be 15 homescreens etc. Um, I posted the original thread to see what tips you guys got.
//Dave
I use zeam launcher. it's a minimal launcher with low memory's consumption, but there is no cutomization.
Wow, thanx for all tips!
Will now have to try the Go launcher, have to get ADW EX another go as well as HE Launcher.
//Dave
Totally agree. Go Launcher is the one for me. Tried pretty much everything else and chose this one. LauncherPro is my second option. But I think Go Launcher is everything LaucnherPro is, and more. =)

You can't. That's one thing I found out on the Defy. If you install any other launcher the original Blur launcher cannot be selected. I've tried Home Switcher, having two launchers and trying to clear defaults, and any other thing you can think of. The only way to get Blur back is to uninstall all other launchers.
Not true....install an app called homesmack from the market....it is free and will allow u to switch very easily

[Q] Best launcher?

Hi u guys I'm in a big debate on wether which launcher is best and fast. I want your guys opinions.
I'm running my g2 with cyanogens latest nightly build.
First off
Adw: too slow for me
Launcher pro purchased: I had been using launcher pro for a really long time but it takes forever to come up and when u swtich the launcher to landscape mode everything goes bananas.
Go launcher: was using this for about 2 months but I don't like the theme selections.
Adw ex: what imusing right now, pretty fast but also a lil unstable.
What's best for u guys?
Have you tried the stock gingerbread launcher? What it lacks in customisation options it makes up in speed and stabilty.
[sig]My mission is to hit 1000 posts by 23/05/2011[sig]
can't beat adw ex as far as I'm concerned... the new 3d drawer is perfect (literally, I can't tell the difference between it and a vanilla android launcher), theme engine is solid, customization is much more thorough than LP.
I had way more issues with stability on LP than I do with ADW ex... what ultimately made me give up on LP was the 1 minute wait time upon boot (or force close if you're impatient)... that's just plain sloppy.
Agree with both answers. But I think you can see the smoothness of stock over adw ex. At least I can for sure. I wish stock came with three screens and removed those dots at the bottom. Id be in heaven then. Have you tried zeam?

yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if on setups not as stripped as mine, the stock launcher is still much smoother.
I'm only running 1 home screen with the google quick search box and eight app shortcuts. along with no transition animations or other eye candy, it's like butter, especially now that they've fixed the 3d app tray.. used to be a little choppy but now it really is reminiscent of a vanilla GB launcher in terms of smoothness.
I been using LP plus, and say I don't really have issue and it runs great and quick for me not real bloat options,I don't have to take 20 mins to setup the launcher how I like it as adw I don't like the dots, don't like thr trash on toop don't don't like drawer slook
For me launcher pro is definitely the best and runs smooth at all times (except when charging the phone).
Go Launcher Ex is fast, smooth and the most reliable. As far as I'm concerned its the best home launcher right now. I was a long time user of Launcher Pro Plus but the bugs and lack of timely updates really irritated me.
ADW/ex both don't have good enough support for icons other than adw icons and that buff icon set. I'm having the same issue with Launcher pro, although I do like their activity options in the widget menu.
Im using EX but i really want to use another but I can't find any good ones. I liked 91 panda, I don't think it's been updated but I haven't checked either.
launcher pro plus for sure! fast, stable and some nice widgets

you can use any icons you want as long as they're PNG (same as any other custom launcher).. creating an icon pack that will replace your app tray icons as well is a piece of cake.

[Q] Best launcher and the feature/advantage of that launcher you can't live without

What is the best LAUNCHER in ur comparison..and the best feature that makes it awesome...(eg. mine is goLauncherex coz it have swipe in the screen to do additional options like swipe down for notification or open helicopter view of all home screens).....REPLY PLZ
I use adw ex because its fast. But when Zeam has widget scrolling back i will use that mainly cause, adw ex is fast but it uses more memory and sacrifices graphics. You can check this by using a dark/black coloured widget and then scrolling, you will see it distort.
I use ADW Launcher Ex, it has the same swipe features and many themes available
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
+1 for ADW Launcher Ex, it just seems to move smoother and more fluidly than others ive tried.
Tried several all they all have advantages, still, surprisingly, I am now quite used to TouchWiz on the Galaxy S2 2.3.3 and while it is not perfect, decided to stop bothering with other launchers for now. It does a fair, fast/fluid job and I complement it with a couple of widget-thingies like Elixir and a couple of apps like Tasker and ZDTools.
The good part is that it appears to be very stable. I'll probably keep using it until something amazing shows up.
LauncherPro, tried Zeam and Go Ex, both rather slowly working. But I like the feature on GoEx launcher to open the recent apps out of the appdrawer...
I like Go Launcher's ability to uninstall an app just by long-pressing on the app icon in the drawer of home screen, and that you could add up to 30 screens--something few launchers can do.
ALso the many themes and icons that it has for free download. Font packs though, are not its strength. You'd have to look elsewhere for fonts.

Quite like transparent app drawer too!

Favorite Launcher?

Nothing came up in the seach so thought I'd get some input on launchers. It would be nice to hear why you prefer certain launchers over others.
Feel free to add my rom and kernel are great, I dont bother with any extra launcher.
Ive been using Go Launcher for a while now, I really like it.
A quick thing I noticed was that they put a settings button back on the bottom with back and home where it belongs. Not sure why google took this out, theres room for it.
The abundance of customization is nice.
Lots of homescreen transitions (I love the cylinder one)
Lots of dock control, really like how clicking and swiping a dock icon can launch separate apps.
App drawer settings are good, I really dislike the iphone horizontal page turn set up of the standard app drawer so having a vertical scroll is a great option. Changing the grid size, easily hiding apps, having the all/recent/running tabs.
Gesture settings, already so many ways and apps to get to things quicker, having this built in is a bonus. I got used to it in dolphin browser so it was a welcomed addon. Also simple things like swiping down anywhere on the screen to pull down the notifications bar is something Im not sure I could go without now.
Nice theme selection, Although I dont bother with any.
Lots of other great GO apps and go widgets.
I used to really like the whole menu system they have when you long press on a homescreen to pull up widgets, wallpapers, themes etc until ICS added the widget previews right in the app drawer. Thats missing in Go Launcher and is one of the few things I wish it had.
I have liked Apex a lot. Seemed like I could setup a single 6x6 screen with smoothness better then I could with Nova. In both cases I used the betas with Jelly Bean patches in them.
