SPB Mobile Shell v5.0 for ANDROID... What are your thoughts? - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Hi all,
As I am a bit of a window shopper and came to ANDROID from a WM device, I was browsing one of my favorite WM websites www.1800pocketpc.com and saw a review for SPB Mobile Shell v5.0 and it said that it would be being released for ANDROID.
SPB was one of my favorite things about using my Samsung Omnia i910 (as it was really the only thing that made it work very well... lol!) and I think for us ex WM users that this will add a familiarity to our devices and a GREAT 3D UI.
What does anyone else think? Do you like this or not?

SPB Mobile Shell is fancy looking, but heavy on the OS
in my WM phone i used it for a while, in the end i took it off, make the WM phone super slooooooooow

didnt make my i8910 super slow and it was nice.. but i think i prefer the android ones with up to 7 pages better.

Really? It never really slowed down my Omnia i910 but... I did use the steps found on www.samsung-omnia.org to move and delete un-needed items from the windows folder, etc to gain space.
I really liked SPB and there were a tom of mods you could find for skinning, icons, etc.
I might give it a try but that will depend on how much it costs as well...

I wouldn't mind it for android. But getting it running smoothly is a dif kettle of fish

slow my HP 612c and Atom too...
I tried some SPB software, and they are good, but most are too heavy and slow down my WM...

I've always found their products to be ugly.

What about us

i find hard to believe that it didnt leak on the net

it looks exactly like the old one for windows
not a big fan of it, looks like it's going to lag the phone
i'll take LauncherPRO over SPB lag Shell (biased by its windows version)

Compare the hardware of those old WM phones to the SGS, I don't think lag will be a problem. Especially if it has GPU acceleration.
In that video performance looked fluid and flawless.
Not sure I like it though. Going by their Symbian and WM versions, it will be a high priced paid app. Then again it was such a big improvement over the interface in those devices so the price could be justified, while here it already has plenty of competition that doesn't even cost a cent.

i'm planning to try it out and review it once it becomes available on Android Market for Trial
i'll definitely NOT buy it, that's for sure, as i like LauncherPRO as it does exactly what i wanted it to do down to the smallest detail
it was like a custom tailored app for me well worth the donation

Could you give link on different site? For example: mediafire, rapidshare. Please dude.

Could anyone provide links to download this??

Please. Help.

Its not available yet.

Some thing to clear about BlueAngel

I have planned to buy O2 XDA IIs from my frnd (2nd hand for sure)
Does it comes under the name, blueangel???
also please tell me pros and cons about this dmobile device
I already own O2 xda exec, typhoon and voyager
what about this one???
cud U, experienced users please guide me....am i gonna upgrade its rom to WM6 or not??
It's a great device, you won't make a mistake It has Intel PXA263 400mhz processor (This is the only thing i don't like in blueangel. It is not so fast. If you plan to play 3d games it is not very good for this. But you can easily overclock it with pocket master to 530mhz. With this frequency it handles everything without Snow Rally - there's a little lag and you can't play Playstation 1 games even if you overclock it to 590. I got 21-23fps in Tony Hawk Pro Skater with @530mhz and Frameskip - 2), 128 ram (This is great! With so much ram you don't need real close button. But there are no applications that wants more than 32 ram, so this is not a big advantage), Big screen and the best design for games(The screen is perfect. It wouldn't be bad if there was VGA screen but QVGA is not so bad either. In web browsing the qvga resolution is a big dissadvantage. You have to scrool a lot. But now there are browsers now that supports Zoom function. With it the browsing is good even on qvga device. When Opera 9.5 comes out it will rock And the design is great for games. It's like joystick when you handle it in landscape position and there are many buttons), 64mb Flash Storage(It's not much but you don't need more. There are SD Cards for that), SD/MMC expansion slot( The bad thing here is that it doesn't support SDHC, there are no drivers for that and there won't be in future ), CIF camera (It is really badd. The image quality is similar. If you try to record video it lags. I don't know why :/ It does it wven in the lowest quality), WiFi( No problems here), Bluetooth (No problems here either), IrDA( It can't be used as a remote controller because the irda range is around 3 meters)
And finally the PocketPC comes with WM2003. You can install WM6.1 but I recommend you to wait for explode's WM6.1. His roms are the best With the new windows the pocket becmoes really fast and stable. That's all, it's a great device

I don't quite understand this question. If you are asking if it was sold under the name of Blue Angel, no. Blue Angel is the HTC internal name for the phone. It was never sold by HTC directly, but to the various cell carriers who rebadged it with their own plastics and ROM/applications.

Pros:
Good CPU speed (the keiser runs at the same speed, 400 mhz)
The CPU has been around for a while, so 3rd party apps that are designed for the CPU work well.
Good physical size on the screen
Lots of storage and program memory when the extended ROM is resized/removed.
Cons:
Since it is an older platform, any MW version after 2003 is a hack. The drivers are generally ported from other phones and there are various bugs that will probably never be fixed due to a lack of hardware drivers. Everything does work, there are just various quirks.
Radio range (bluetooth, wifi, etc) are not the best. Heck, they often tend to be down right crappy.
Unless someone is able to write and release a SDHC driver for the card slot, it will never support SDHC cards, which will limit the phone to 4 gig cards. 2 gig is the official spec for SD, but there are a few 4 gig non-SDHC cards out there.

I would. MW6 is a huge improvement over 2003 and 5. The latest ROM builds out there work very well, if not 99% perfectly, and are fast.
In my opinion, Hemli releasing wm6 for the angel breathed new life into the device.
Really, I wish HTC would revive the device, make an updated version of it. The form factor, while is a bit big for a phone, is great for usability as a PDA.

I second that! Just ditched my Hermes for my old trusty Blue Angel, which blows the pants off it! I forgot how much I loved the 3.5 inch screen!
Rookie as well with the Blue Angel
I am getting started with the Blue angel as well (O2 Xda IIs)
I like it a lot this will probably become my best buddy during my travels
I got a couple of complementary questions about it.
I intend to use it for business purposes, mainly Internet through
Wifi and GPRS, pdf and offices documents.
I saw on this forum that you advise to change from WM 2003SE to Windows Mobile 6 (the last published by Microsoft)
-My question is: This PDA is already a bit old now, is it going to work smoothly wit the very last OS, which is designed for more recent PDAs (i.e which should be more efficient).
I mainly want to use it for Internet, wich browser do you recommend ?
Internet explorer? Opera Mobile? Opera Mini? other browser?
By the way what is the difference between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini
you should go with opera mobile, as it is better suited for pda's. opera mini is suited for java based mobile phones.

man i wish they would do that, or release a device with the same glorious screen but with contemporary features, all in all the blu angel is still a killer device 4 years on.
Absolutely right. I had been using the subj for 4 years in nearly extremal conditions, uprading and downgrading firmware dozen times. But, unfortunately it died as hero. Really great gadget, legend of HTC platform challenging ages.
Hi
Well with WM 6.1 it does everything I need and thats for sure I have my pick of devices and always come back to this one - and the 11i which is just about as good
I cant think of a time I have been upset with what it does or doesn't do. I intend keep one for as long as it will run....

i love pointUI and very much like HTC Touch Flo, so from the Spb video, it seems like the best of both worlds with some great new features added into the mix.
Let's hope Spb have eliminated the need with 2.0 to have to use the ageing windows mobile interface.
Spb 1st rate software makers and will undoubtedly release a brilliant piece of kit....can't wait.
hell that looks amazing
Wonderfull
it looks very useful !

Win seven rom for s620

Dear All,
Can we expect that in future we will have the ROM of win7 for Excalibure?
Thanks

As you will see windows mobile 7 hasn't even been developed...
And considering the new phones will only be supported since processors and amount of RAM has changed substantially since the Excalibur, we will probably never see it running on our old beloved devices...

I hear you!, even though the Dash is still an awesome device, it will be more like a touch pro 2 , or a different new device that will have the 7.0, shoot M$ just released 6.5 not even 4 or 5 months ago, I'm sure it will be a while and, we'll have a beta version of the 7 way before it will be released.

never say never. we've seen how programmers and cooks have taken windows xp and customized it into usable os's for low end pc's. tiny xp being just one example of this.
so i have full confidence that our cooks here can create a recipe that will be usable on our excaliburs. good luck guys.
I hate to be a downer, but with under 100 MB of ram (68 MB I believe, most of which is used already by the OS and other functions, leaving the user with around 20 MB) and a very small ROM size (newer OS = more space taken) AND a processor clocking in at no more than 250 Mhz OVERCLOCKED, it doesn't seem possible for a Windows 7 ROM to run on our beloved phones.
Notice how with every new OS, the space requirements go up and up (this applies to all devices) whereas XP used somewhere around 6GB I believe and 7 now uses up to 17GB ... If Win7 Mobile proves to be a GREAT (and I mean phenomenal) OS, then there is the chance, but I wouldn't get hopes up too high [especially since our Excaliburs are becoming yesterday's model and chefs are scarce in these parts].
you do relise the newq os takes less space then old xp right? the old xp is so bloated now with updates that if they can slim it down they can slim down win 7 not to mention there is a starter version of 7 made for netbooks, however even the full version runs well on my small netbook, and it has only 1 gig total ram. infact im typing this on my win7 home premium netbook right now.
after a bit of googling i realized you're probably right. the specs required for the new windows mobile 7 OS as reported, will be too much for the excalibur to handle. i still think there are people that could size it down but it would be a job for sure. you'd still need to have those core windows system files.... but as with other OS' they always include bloatware that can be removed to improve functionality. guess we'll have to wait and see...
on the plus side, there is a work in progress attempting to port the new android OS over to the excalibur. it is based on a linux kernal. from what i've read it's bootable but they still have some work to do on it. more on that can be read about here...

this will probably be my future OS for this phone when they get it to a workable beta stage. hopefully soon

How do u think about this video? this device is like HTC Elf which has only 64MB of RAM and 200 MHz of CPU.
Anyways, i hope Windows Mobile 7 can be similar to Windows 7 that can run faster event 1GB of RAM if we compare with Vista.
i think as a company, microsofts target market is the user with a newer smartphone/ppc. i wouldnt be surprised if they had some deal with the cell phone makers that requires you to have to buy a new cell phone to be able to use the newer OS. however, i still hold out hope that the hackers will break down the Mobile OS itself and get it running like a pro.
vid still looks nice though. the date on the upload was 2008 so im sure there has been much work on it since then. beta testing anyone?

I think that a 201MHz CPU /64MB RAM device is more than capable of running WAD Since they can run M2D fine
Info:
Device: HTC Touch (elf)
Skin name: Windows Mobile 7 i3

Skin version: QVGA
Used: WAD2 and WA3
Created by: Bornotty[me] (from scratch of Port'n V2)

Haha Stylez, I was just about to comment on that video.
Regarding the user who mentioned that Win7 is smaller than XP, I would like you to double-check that, or maybe check it for the first time, becuase I am more than 99% sure that due to the immense amount of Hardware Acceleration and other optimizational code in the Win7 core, the size of it is larger than XP. You can see this also by the fact that Win7 asks if you want to make a partition for the OS alone (which turns out to be 16-17GB) while XP (which I have installed on my own HDD) takes up no more than 18GB on my 75GB HDD and that is with all my usual apps installed (3Ds Max, Visual Studio (Full), Adobe suite ALTERNATIVES, Firewall/AV, plus all the other random freeware I tend to install for the heck of it) [I estimated around 6-7 because of the apps installed]...Also realize that the hacked XP (coined MiniXP) fits on a CD, so OBVIOUSLY there was enough to take out that it could shrink down immensely and still keep its functions... So i am pretty sure than XP doesn't take too much space...
SEMI-EDIT:: I left this window open and forgot to post, so i googled the size of an XP installation...refer to http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/size-of-xp-install/154115.html where people claim to install XP with only 1.5GB of HDD....i think that settles that...

lol spot on all you need to do is notice XP Pro comes on CD & Windows 7 on DVD.. There is a reason for that
Also my XP Pro SP3 Slipstream comes in @ 1.3GB after i remove the page file "solidstate disk" so 3.3GB before
Windows 7 comes in from 5.5GB+
I don't think that it will ever get to run on the dash, just because all of the animation, interfaces, plugin's, and all the ram that's gonna be needed for newer OS's.
I'm only speaking my opinion, but aren't almost all new Win Mo devices coming out with touch screens. I think if there was any older device that would get a version of WM 7 will be the Htc Tilt/Kaiser that has 112mb storage and 101mb ram, or the Htc Fuze/Raphael that has even more, around 294mb storage and 187mb ram.
I think that it would be awesome if someone would have that much skills to make it happen but, like TouchFLO on dash never happened, Android has been on the works since october 2008 and still hasn't happened.
But anyways who knows!

All speculation we have very well informed user that is stating it's based on Ce Os 7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=620477
Think the Kaiser will be left behind due to the lack of storage space and also think accelerometer gyrator going to come into play alot more with WM7 from what been reading.
But like i say all speculation, one thing i can say is the Excalibur won't as it's just too slow too small "not regards size" and it's turned out that HTC now are really a PPC adventure even though they have SP's still in the market place....

Yeah it's an advert future concept cloud network. But i can see the likely hood of porting since it's still very well specked and people are stating the snapdragon doesn't add an amazing amount of difference in feel from the Qualcomm MSM750xx, but we will all have to wait and see.

Keep more than your fingers crossed "it's not going to happen if you look @ all the videos floating around it's highly gui intensive" unless they bring out a version for SP that can work on very old equipment to which considering all SP's are now about 500MHz and have far more storage & RAM it's highly unlikely...

Windows 7 on tilt 2??

Sorry for the dumb question but i am using the latest sept 4th rom from energy but was wondering has a windows 7 mobile come out yet for the tilt2??Also i havetried skyfire, opera and IE and think that skyfire is fastest but it it way too inconsistent for my liking. Also seems like the latest rom eats a lof of my battery . Any opinions??
Due to the hardware requirements it seems unlikely (to me) that WP7 will make it to the TP2. The chefs have done some pretty amazing things though, so maybe...
If you like the speed of skyfire try Opera Mini, there's a standalone winmo installer that doesn't use java on opera's site. pretty slick.
ok mate i will try it in a bit and let u know what i think of it!!
WinMo 7 will only be officially offered on new phones that meet the pretty high hardware requirements (the Tilt 2/TP2 does not) and probably won't be out until mid-November at the earliest. Even if someone here manages to extract it into an installable ROM, it would likely run like dog poo on these devices.

Thinking about jumpingto wp7

I am thinkingabout buying a Windowsphone 7 device from at&t in December when I can upgrade. My inspire 4g may not be able to run jellybean this year and I am tired of androidbeing sluggish and fragmented. I love the simplicity I can see in videos of windows phone and with the titan 2 starting up the ne let featurein windows phones I think it would be a good idea for some change. !*BUT*! I am worried about when Apollo comes out my phone MIGHT not be upgraded and I would be stuck with an old outdated phone for a year. I was also wondering what kind of hacking community there is and what kind of hacks there are. If somebody could post all of the pros and cons of windowsphone compared to android and the hacking comunity
To restate my questions I want to.know:
1)what are the pros and cons of windows phone compare to android
2) what kind of hacking community is there for windows phone and what hacks and mods are there
3) will it be upgraded to Apollo(I know that no one can say for sure but there are some sources I'm sure that have an idea)
Thanks in advance for any replies

Well the hacking community on android is much larger than the one for windows phone, and plus there are not quite as many things that you can change in windows phone as you can in android. Another problem is that if you get a second gen windows phone you will not be able to unlock it unless you get a Microsoft developer account, I think it is called an "app hub" account. Even then there will not be many things that you could side load onto your phone. The only gen 2 windows phones that can be unlocked are the Samsung ones, from this one opening called "windows break". The pros with windows phones are simplicity, no lag over time(my android experience, fast in the beginning slow over time) but the cons are the customization of the phone and things like that. Well there is a large chance that all windows phone will get upgraded to Apollo, but they wont have all of the features that the Apollo devices will have.

1)what are the pros and cons of windows phone compare to android

I hated android up to 4.0 and it still sucks for me, too much lag, fragmentation, piracy concerns over Google, etc. Yes, not a fan of Android in general so hard to not be biased.
I think WP is the new king of innovation, it was Apple with the original iPhone first but not they just sue and copy.

TL;DR WP is simply beautiful, snappy and intuitive
If it's hacking and modding you're looking for, Windows Phone isn't your ideal OS--you want Android. You're not going to get custom ROMs and a wide selection of homebrew root-user apps on Windows Phone. That stuff doesn't exist.
If, however, you're looking for a cohesive, refined, "authentically digital" user experience and interface, Windows Phone is the place to be. It's beautiful and fluid in ways that Android will never be.
And if you're looking to develop, Windows Phone is a great place to start. It doesn't have the horrendous up-front cost of developing for iPhone, and it doesn't have the fragmentation/emulator problems of developing for Android. The emulator works great, and if you want to publish to the market or sideload onto your phone, it's only $100--free if you're a student!
well the cons for windows phone are simply that it isn't as customizable as android is and also currently does not support USB mass storage ,this has been a problem for some and may be a problem for you but I haven't really missed it because of SkyDrive and how it's integrated into the phone. Mass storage will be even more unnecessary with win8.
The pros are that it has more integrated services than Android does out the box and that it doesn't need 4 cores to run smooth and stable. It also provides a top notch, innovative and beautiful experience. All phones especially the ones that shipped with mango will be updated to Apollo. But since you won't be upgrading till December I'm sure there will be phones around that time with Apollo pre installed.
Why is this the new chant "4 cores to run smooth"? It is not even true.
trh1341, would you be able to run through what exactly you use your phone for now? What apps do you use? Features? Are you looking to buy out of contract or on a plan?

For that? Yes, WP is perfect for that. Internet browsing is fluid and quick- there's no lag in scrolling or zooming, the download speeds for pages are pretty equivalent, and IE is actually a stunningly good mobile browser.
For music streaming, you can stream from Google Music with an app, from Skydrive, or - if you want a real premium service, Zune's streaming is the best out of all the mobile ecosystems.

How much is skydive and zine? Sorry for all these dumb questions
I am hopingthe titan 2 will be out by December

SkyDrive gives you 25GB for free with 50 (or maybe 100MB) file size limitations. I believe this is free and you will be able to access your content and stream this way.
Zune's Music pass is $9.99 subscription based service for streaming music. I have never used it but I hear good things from users.
The Titan 2 seems like quite a large phone for that purpose. And I am not sure what kind of battery life that phone will achieve.
I have a titan 1 and get about 17 hours life out of it. That is using the internet, texting, exchange mail, hotmail (both pushed), Comcast, and 2 other email accounts checking every hour.
For streaming. There is also a pandora client although not official, tune in radio is simply awesome as it will find all your local radio stations for any city, it includes an fm radio in every windows phone, don't have to subscribe to zune, you can also just purchase music which also syncs to your pc, slacker radio, iheartradio. Lots of music choices.
For fun, - I lol'd, that's what she said, the chive, and urban dictionary rock + all have live tiles.
For weather - i am now using a paid app called amazing weather which has animations. Weather channel is really good for free and so is accuweather. all have live tiles to show you current weather on home screen without opening app.
Games - where to start. Yeti sports is fun. Splinter cell. Need for speed undercover and hot pursuit. For free - titan rocks. I still haven't completed it.
Windows phone has trials for most games so check them out.
Messenger . Video chat - facebook is built in along with windows live, twitter and link'nd in
IM+ is pretty good as a multimessenger. Skype although it's beta and contacts must be loaded from the pc version. Tango works pretty well also.
Facebook also has a seperate client.
Forward contact is cool. It changes your business card into a QR code that any phone can scan in using a qr reader.
Barcode reading is built in although there was a few it couldnt find. Shop savy makes up for it and is free.
Keyring - scan all your grocerie cards in so you don't have to carry them
HTC flashlight - Since windows phone voice opens apps, this rocks. press the windows button and say start flashlight and it will come on. Great for finding your keys when you forget to turn porch light on.

This is probablyone of the most complete answers I have ever seen! Thanks very much! I want the titan 2 becauseof the lte

Perhaps I've missed something but: if you're waiting until December, then Apollo should be out by then.
In which case you'll know whether or not the current phones are being upgraded and you'll know what newly released phones with Apollo pre-installed are available.

The titan is my 2nd windows phone. I have been using windows phone since pre nodo when it was released. My original phone was a surround which i still have. My wife sold her iphone because she was trying to cut our bill down and since i got my titan for a penny, she has been using my surround to play games and check facebook - She doesn't like technology though so she still won't stick her sim card in it and use it as a phone (without a data plan) but windows phone is slowly winning her over with the ease of use and games that are the style she likes (she plays the simple ones)
If you are waiting on the titan 2 though ... i would suggest getting the nokia 900 instead. Screen is a little smaller... but Nokia is top notch in quality. I love my titan, but if i could get a Nokia 900 with front facing camera and clear black technology (look up what that does and you will see why) I'd trade my titan in, in a heartbeat.
i agree with the guy above me, nokia is the way to go and their phones are just beautiful, plus on a biased note i cannot stand tablet sized screens.
i was in the same boat as you back in october, but i knew it was time to switch because i just didnt have time to hack and mod to have android run smoother. android is such a hassle, i regret ever wasting time with it. wp7 is so convenient and smooth. zune pass is great if you want to find great music haha, i find like 2 new artists a day.
so based on your daily uses i would definitely suggest wp u wont regret it. and go for a nokia device not htc, they have started to make crappy phones over the past 2 years.
I actually get great battery life out of my Titan too. At the end of business day, I have about 70+% battery life remaining. Thats heavy texting, mid to heavy calls, mild games and mid to heavy use of music.

I think you got him wrong. The Titan sports a 1.3mp front facing camera.
Get a HTC trophy.
