[Q] G2 Camera Shutter Sound - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

As of right now, is there no way to disable the camera sound?
Does Temp Rooting -> Replacing shutter sounds with a 0kb file work on the g2, or does that revert after a reboot?

What about the old blackberry trick?
Lower volume, call voicemail, take a quick pic. I havnt tryed it, but that was the ez'est thing to do on my curve.
I'm wondering if xda is like other forums, getting a bunch of heat, people thinking you are taking up skirt pics or something. So retarded hahah

lol.
if you mute the phone, the sound goes away... but thats just retarded to do it for each time you want to take a picture
and no, its just an obnoxious sound, how am i supposed to take pictures without annoying everyone around me..

You use the camera so much that turning your phone to silent beore snapping a pic is a pain for you?

yes.
its sorta like.. why bother getting a remote fob for your car when you can just walk up and use your key to open the door....
its convenient, and something nice to have... and additionally, when its been hacked into the camera app a 1000x on windows mobile phones, android phones, and blackberries, don't you think people consider it a nice thing to have?
or are you so stuck up about it that you get up to change the channels by hand on your tv, because a remote is only going to save you 5 seconds anyways
god i hate people who just make assumptions like that

I must agree ... I too am looking for a fix for this.. not only can you not turn off the sound..that annoys me its also the fact that the g2 takes beautiful pictures withva super cheap sounding ear screaching click! Its not even a click more like a cliche type of sound it sucks definetly trying to find a way to shut it off without muting the entire phone everytime

no one has a fix for this yet?
no one ever anwsered my question if temp root will solve this problem permantly

I use tasker for this. Mutes phone sound when camera is launched. Works fine

Look for camera shutter in market, they have alternative cam apps that silent the shutter sound
Sent from my T-Mobile G2

Nearly every camera app in the market was crap or you had to pay. Id like to see devs come out with something for rooted devices.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Try this, it works for me from adb, but visionary.sh would be fine too:
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system
rm /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
launch camera app, and .. wah-la!
edit: it obv reverts, but visionary.sh solves that

Why not just put the phone on vibrate when taking a pic? Works for me.

Because that can get annoying.
Just put it in visionary.sh and never worry about it again, if you want the sound gone every time.

settings profiles the newest version can disable system sounds only ie:camera

^ can you elaborate on this? wat do u mean profiles?

Download the app "setting profiles" from the app store. The free one allows for one rule. Use thst rule to set just the system sounds to be whatever level or quiet dependant on certain conditions. The conditions can be set to something that is always true.

2.2 annoyances

I know, I know, I get Flash, better response, longer battery life....but there are some things I miss from 2.1
-Slide to unlock
I just can't find a way to disable this in 2.2. Now if I have pattern to unlock, I have to slide, then enter the pattern
-Using volume slider to change ring volume
In 2.1 the volume slider went from audible to vibrate, then onto silent (no vibrate)
This is no longer an option in 2.2
Any thing annoy you about 2.2?
I hate that they removed the Flip to Silent feature...
I hate that as the days go both my cellular and wifi continue to have more and more issues........its a major downhill battle. Me thinks something is seriously fubared with the radios now. I've put 2 other defys on 2.1 right next to it while its saying emergency use only, and they both connect 3g with full reception.....
Wow! I've never experienced that while on the leaked build...
However, I forgot to mention that the touchscreen sensitivity seems messed up...
Why doesn't Android have calibration like the one on Nokia phones. Not needed?

Try No Lock from the Market. https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock&feature=search_result
my wife is on 2.2 and she just mentioned that when she makes calls it takes a bit longer to connect than when she was on 2.1. Other than that it seems to be working like a charm.

Thanks for that, installed and working great
I've also noticed the picture gallery is a lot more sluggish than 2.1
Things that I noticed, but went away with factory reset: Battery got worse. System freezes at least once a day, and needed a reboot. Camera lag along with new gallery (as noted above). All sounds when using headphones has very annoying hiss while playing either video or music. I put up with it for two days, and then reluctantly did a factory reset (reluctant because I had it set up just the way I wanted, and really didn't want to do it all over again especially downloading all the apps), BUT after doing so all issues went away. Excellent battery life (even better than 2.1). No more freezes (in fact it is much smoother than 2.1). No lag in camera or gallery. Hiss in headphones went away.
Things that still are annoying me: No flip to silence. No default slide dis-abler. No more sound enhancer (unless it's moved, and I can't find it). If I have launchers from the Market installed I have NO choice to pick the default Blur one.
Overall I'm very happy with it. I lost root but was able to get it back. On 2.1 my highest Quadrant score was 1483. On 2.2.1 my highest so far is 1718.

Try Quick Pic, light year faster than the stock Gallery, plus smart differing to avoid color blocks (blame Google, Coolpix, Nexus One for Gallery downgrade from 24bit to 16bit).

VERY odd... varios system sounds are now inaudible...

I noticed this earlier today and it's driving me NUTS!! Various system sounds (so far I've found the dialing tone, lock/unlock click, and default keyboard sounds) all of a sudden are practically inaudible. I can hear them but only if I hold the speaker up to my ear while dialing, typing, etc. All volume levels are turned up all the way like I always have them, what gives?!? I'm very confused by this...
Possibly blown speakers? Have you tried music?
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
are you sure your system volume is up? You can check it with Audio Manager.
Uhh yeah like I said, all volume levels are ALL the way up.
Nope not blown as ringtones, etc. come through the speaker just fine.
You running stock? Try a reset/clean flash?
Yes everything is stock and I'm trying to avoid the obvious (resetting the phone)
Are all of these things y'all have suggested not obvious to the average user? I don't mean to be rude in the least but I always try several things to fix an issue before I seek out help...

haha. you may be surprised sometimes Always got to cover all the bases.
I have no idea what's causing you issues, but I experience something sort of simlar, and have yet to figure it out. I don't use any audio feedback or lockscreen unlock sounds or anything like that. My ringer and notifications always work fine. The thing for me that is odd, is my boot animation sound. No matter what sound I use, it plays halfway through EXTREMELY loud, and then it suddenly cuts to about 1/3 the volume that it started playing at. It's random, and doesn't happen every time, but definitely enough for me to notice. I have no idea what causes it, but wouldn't be surprised if it's the same type of issue.
Download an app called audio manager. Your system volume got stuck down and won't go up without that type of app, since we cannot change it in settings.

AudioManager allows you to change the system sound settings, which is otherwise impossible via the standard Android interface. That solved my problem.

Turn camera shutter off

I was trying to find out if anyone knew how to turn off the camera shutter sound? Was this option removed from ICS? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think it's a mission impossible!
I believe in most places in the world it is actually illegal to have no camera shutter on a phone. It can be considered as an invasion of privacy and all of that stuff. So just a warning you might not find anything you're looking for :-\. Although I'm sure it's possible
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
You can turn off the shutter (as root) by deleting/renaming /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg (or another obviously named file) but you'll still have the focus beep (which seems to be embedded in the app itself). I keep my phone volume all the way down most of the time which silences it, I use Volume Control+ to quickly change volume profiles.
I find it awkward that a person could turn on video recording and leave it on, collecting a non-stop series of thousands of images silently, yet there are laws that restrict the collection of a single image without a shutter sound.
Are there laws for how many db the shutter sound must generate or penalties for tampering with it?
Argh I hate stupid laws that accomplish nothing.

Yes, I believe the annoying shutter sound is there for privacy, HOWEVER, try taking a picture of a sleeping baby and then have the SNAP! sound wake them up... Or try taking candid pictures of your pets and have them run off after the SNAP! sound. Not a very nice experience.
But the reality is, if someone wants to commit a crime, they will circumvent the technology used to protect people. So in the end, this only affects the average user, not the pedophile.

Lol the volume down no shutter is like an age old nexus trick...it may not work on some third party apps so if that's what you're using try the stock camera.

ahhh my apologies i made the annoying assumption that the user was on a US galaxy nexus (he's in the US but he's on t-mobile so had to import). I forgot that it's law in some countries to have the shutter sound. woops!
Anyways US verizon nexus you can remove the sound manually via volume up/down.

I asked a friend here to check on his Galaxy S2 HD and it works; lowering the volume all the way removes the shutter sound as well. Hrm.

[Q] Vibrate....gotta be a way to increase the "oomph"!!!! Right?!?

I love this phone...but for my purposes, having it on vibrate = having it on silent. I missed TWO job interview calls having my phone on vibrate in my pants! I barely had time to call 'em back today to set up an in-person!!!!
I found a program a few weeks ago to handle my volume problems....is there a program that handles the vibration problems??? I guess I'm one step away from changing the vibration to just one long vibrate for texts and calls....but this soft motor probably still won't help it out!
Anything? Or am I doomed to putting this on craigslist and waiting for the next big phone???

I think it agitates everyone pretty well actually.
To be on topic, though, I don't know of any apps, or software mods at all really, that will increase the power on the vibration. That's a hardware thing.

Really? Seems great to me. Way better than my previous HTC phones.
Apparently Light Flow has settings where you can set particular vibrations for particular notifications (i.e. how long & how frequent you want them). Haven't tested it myself, but I've read about it. Link. Perhaps if Light Flow doesn't work, try Sound Manager V2?

I tried light flow but I could never seem to get it to play nice w/Handcent.. It'd always stutter my ringtone. Even when I turned notifying for Handcent off...
On a table, it works fine. On a bed or couch or pocket...it's garbage. And I really didn't notice it until last week when I needed it on vibrate. Now, I wish I'd noticed it during the 30 day period of returning the phone....
Shoot!

[Q] Help I can't mute the shutter sound on n7105

I recently bought an N7105 and much to my horror I can't mute the annoying and very loud camera shutter. On my previous N7100 I could just mute the volume and that would mute the shutter, but on the N7105 (at least this one) I can't do that. No matter what I try the shutter sound will not mute. I even downloaded third party camera apps (zoom FX) and it still wouldn't mute even when the shutter sound was disabled. I do not want to root, what can I do? Please help!
Since there seems to be no solution I have no choice but to sell my brand new phone I will not root because I absolutely hate it, and would rather not have a phone at all! Can someone tell me which regions don't have the shutter sound? And what is the best way to make sure when buying off the net that the firmware will have shutter mute?
It might be easier to use a free camera app that allows shutter muting.

Sadly the firmware still overrides those 3rd party apps. :crying:
Didn't know that.
Does the sound remain audible when the phone volumes all the way down?
If it does silence with the volume then something like Tasker (or freeware Llama) allows one to execute one or more actions automagically: IF Camera app is running/foreground THEN mute volume, then restore volume afterward. That might be a workaround.
from tapatalk (Galaxy Note 2)
I'll give that a try, but if all its doing is just automating the silencing of the phone then I doubt it will work. Since even when all the volumes are on silent it still goes off. Worth a shot though.

This is driving me crazy. The shutter sound is so extremely loud I am afraid it is ruining the speakers (and my ears). I can't believe how anyone designed this. When I take burst shots its sounds like a machine gun, and people 50meters away turn their heads to see what's happening. I need help badly! PLEASE!
I have horrible experiences with rooting and custom roms and don't want to do that. However as a compromise, would it be possible to do a temp root, erase the offending audio file, and then unroot? Is that even possible? Will the phone remain stock and update itself over the air?
I still prefer a non-root solution. Help me
Just apply that CSC code which gives you an option to mute/un-mute the shutter sound.
PS: Oh sorry, didn't notice that you won't root! Not possible then imo.
OK how about if I flash a different stock firmware with odin? Can I do that without rooting? Will my phone still be fully stock and updatable OTA? How do I know which firmwares don't have this nasty shutter sound (when phoneis muted)?

Not really. I am sure I can change to another stock firmware that doesn't have the shutter sound even on mute. I just need someone to guide me how to do that without rooting, and which firmware to choose.

Im in the US and I have a completely stock ATT Note II - and I can disable the shutter sound without root.
In your camera, tap the gear icon, and look for "Shutter Sound". Tap it and set it to off.
