[Q] wifi tethering?

I tried searching but doesn't seem anyone has brought this up.
Is there any app that allows wifi hotspot capabilities? I know froyo had wifi barnacle but does gingerbread have something like that?
Wifi tethering is built in you don't need an app. Go to wireless settings and youll find it in there

Reverse Tethering ?
Hi, what about a reverse tethering for internet on the smartphone whit a ethernet-connected-pc ?

[Q] Wifi Tether for Root Users isn't working. :(

Just rooted my S3. It has stock Jelly Bean installed.
Only reason I rooted is because every now and then I have need to tether.
In the past, on other phones, I've used the Wifi Tether for Root Users app and loved it. However, when I run the app, non of my PCs see the network at all. The phone looks like it's working but the laptops don't see any network.
I saw a bunch of people post about the similar thing on their google code page.
Is there a fix for this or a different program I need to use? Any help would be great.
Thanks!

Tethering?

I found that the tethering app listed on here a while back doesn't work anymore with the newest update. Anyone have a suggestion what app does work with tethering on the new update?

Install hotspot shield vpn and run it with the tether app. By tether app i assume the treve mod tethering.

I don't run mods, I'm on stock, there was a post that had wifi tether. But what's the use to having a vpn block? I already have a vpn service on the phone.

That treve app is in the play store. Its not really a mod just install that and run it with ur vpn service.
Can't find the treve app on store either?
I've got cyanogen mod the last nightly
No treve in app store, you have the apk?

Try foxfi
Yea use hotspot shield to avoid the redirect clockwork tether mod to connect to PC via USB or Trevor wifi mod or if or using 10.1 use the windows based hotspotshild as soon as u tether or phone through the settings in 10.1
I have hotspot shield, and I downloaded foxfi, foxfi works with no problem, however, my tethering app from tmo launches as soon as I launch foxfi. Will my provider see that I'm tethering with foxfi? I also run the hotspot shield in conjunction with foxfi, will that still allow reporting to the carrier? The other tethering app you all are talking about, it's not on the app store. Any other tips? Thanks for the help so far.

you might want to use one of the modified ROMs such as Jedi Mind Trick JB 1.1 or Infamous's . I dont think free tethering in stock ROM will work.

I tried the generic steps for tethering but I do not have the MSS Clamping option on the one that I downloaded on that page?

The stock roms generally want permission from the carrier to enable tethering. The custom ROMS generally have it enabled by default. One of the tricksy things T-Mobile is doing now though is checking the User-Agent of the browser requesting a page and, if it's not a mobile browser (i.e. you're wi-fi tethering a laptop and using a desktop browser), it redirect you to the "Buy Tethering" page. There are extension for Chrome and Firefox to change your User-Agent.
Non-web traffic seems to be completely unaffected by the new tethering test.

Free WiFi Hotspot

Can anyone confirm a working hotspot app for the Verizon HTC One that allows free hotspot using phone data? For the rooted folks, can anyone confirm if loading a ROM allows for free native hotspot? I'm considering to upgrade to the HTC One from a Galaxy Nexus but I want to make sure I'm covered for hotspot because it's an important feature for me. My wifi tablet is useless on the road without it.

FoxFi works for me.
Yes, +1 for FoxFi, works great. Although it doesn't re-enable WiFi. But that's a minor nuisance.
I rooted my HTC One and have Wireless Tether and it is working. If you are referring to the native Verizon Tethering App, I did see a post in another forum that discussed there is a way to get the Verizon app to tether without a tethering plan if you have a rooted phone, but there was no link or directions on how to do it.
FoxFi working perfectly here too

I'm gonna point out I had an issue with FoxFi today. I had to uninstall and reboot and reinstall. Seems that VPN connection it uses seems to inadvertantly stop working. I'm assuming that's what it uses to trick the mobile hotspot to turn on.

What I meant by native hotspot is enabling the feature within Android settings, no app needed. Normally I think the carrier can detect and charge using this method on the stock ROM. However I remember people telling me that they can use it undetected after installing a custom ROM.
