insmod psfreedom.ko jig=1 to enable service mode
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK DON'T TRY TO TEST IT IF YOUR NOT PLANING ON DOWNGRADING I HAVE JUST WIPE-OUT A PS3 TRYING IT OUT AND HAD TO REINSTALL 3.41
ps3 downgrade how to
1. start android
2. open terminal emulator (programs/dev tools/terminal emulator)
3. type su
4. type cd sdcard
4. type insmod psfreedom.ko jig=1
5. plug phone into PS3
6. Turn on the console using the same boot method as all other jailbreaks: Press power then immediately press eject.
7. ps3 turns on then off automaticly.
8. disconnect your phone and turn on console to make sure you are in Factory/Service Mode. You will see a huge red box on the screen saying Factory/Service Mode.
9. Turn the PS3 off again.
10. Load any blank FAT32 USB flash drive with 2 files in the root directory:
Modified 3.41 PUP
Lv2Diag.self (File 1)
These must be the only files on the USB drive and must be placed in the main (root) directory.
11. Insert flash drive into the last USB port to the right — the first USB port in from the right side if you’re facing the console. Turn the PS3 on and you will see a black screen but the PS3 HDD light will flash.
12. The process takes 3-4 minutes for the system to install the old firmware. Towards the end, the power button on the console will start flashing green and then your console will power off.
13. Remove the flash drive and turn on the console, you will still be in Factory/Service Mode. Please verify you have downgraded successfully to version 3.41 by going to “System Information”. Turn the PS3 off.
(Optional) – If you wish to downgrade to any older firmware you can follow steps 4, 5, 6 using any regular firmware PUP. (You do not need to use modified custom firmware now that you are on 3.41).
14. Insert USB flash drive back into your PC and delete the PUP and Lv2Diag.self file (File 1) and copy the other Lv2Diag.self (File 2) to the root of the flash drive.
15. Insert USB flash drive back into the same USB port on the PS3 and power on your PS3. After 10 seconds it will power off.
Remove USB flash drive and turn on your console again. You will be out of Factory/Service mode and back in retail mode with your chosen firmware version installed. You will need to go through and configure everything again — PS3 video, audio etc…

no you don't once you run insmod you can jailbreak as many time as you like (just make sure your phone is not in sleep mode)
can i disconnect my phone after jailbreaking?
yes you can
What's the difference between "Hermes" and "PL3"?
I don't really know a lot about Hermes payload as i've never used it but some people say that it has better compatibility with discless mod however as i have never used his payload nor have i used discless mod and Hermes payload works only on fw 3.41
can i use Hermes payload with psfreedom?
Hermes payload isn't Natively supported by psfreedom but with a little bit of work it is possible see here
how can i use Asbestos?
see this
how repeatable is this hack?
it varies from one person to another. out of 8 tries "unknown USB device inserted" came up only once with v1.3 fw3.41
can i login to psn?
the latest build (v1.3.1) enable fw 3.41 and 3.15 to go online
is it safe to go online?
i don't think so, not yet anyway, you should wait until the hack is implemented correctly
can i use Hermes payload to go online?
yes see here
is v1.3.2 safer then 1.3.1?

rmmod unloads loadable modules from the running kernel. (to remove psfreedom)
lsmod shows information about all loaded modules. (to show you if psfreedom is running or not)

What firmware is this for?

How to
Extract the archive on your sdcard (replace zImage/modules)
boot in WinMo. (not necessary any more)
Plug USB to PC and Sync device (until the end of sync in pc screen) (not necessary any more)
Run HARET and let it totally boot in Android WITHOUT UNPLUGING USB FROM PC
Unplug USB
Switch off (back switch) PS3 or unplug if slim
In Android Terminal > su > cd sdcard > insmod psfreedom.ko
Plug raph/Diamond to PS3
Switch on PS3
Power > Eject
if works correctly When XMB loads, under the "Game" menu there will be two new options, # /app_home/PS3_GAME and # Install Package Files.

The .ko for 3.41 gave me an 'invalid module format' when issuing insmod...
EDIT: False alarm:: Must have been a copy error. Recopied, module loaded fine.
Testing now.

Works perfectly. I was a bit stumped to start...it jailbroke on first attempt (very unusual for me )...But then backup manager and openmanager would load, but weren't working - ie they weren't actually loading BDMV.
However, a quick bit of googling told me this was due to the move from syscall 36 to 35 - and that either GaiaManager (google) or the new release of OpenManager need to be used, as they've both been updated to use syscall 35 (from hermes v3 and PL3).
Installed GaiaManager - everything is working beautifully.

Asbestos how to
first you will have to read this
and you also need gscript to run this command
Code:
insmod /sdcard/asbestos/psfreedom.ko
cat path to stage1.bin > /proc/psfreedom/payload
cat path to stage2.bin > /proc/psfreedom/asbestos_stage2
e.g.
Code:
insmod /sdcard/asbestos/psfreedom.ko
cat /sdcard/asbestos/stage1.bin > /proc/psfreedom/payload
cat /sdcard/asbestos/stage2.bin > /proc/psfreedom/asbestos_stage2
a script + stage1.bin and stage2.bin is attach
thnx gwon for the feedback. forgot to mention the need to update the backup manger will add that to first post

Can anybody give an indication on how repeatable the hack is.
And a big thumbs up to axm9.

Hermes payload how to
to use Hermes's payload you will need the original psfreedom witch you can find in this post you will also need gscript lite (can be found here or android market)
and the zImage and modules from psfreedom_3.41_v1.3.zip(they are already included in Hermes_payload.zip) this way you can have both pl3 and Hermes
now the actual how to
download and extract psfreedom_3.41_v1.3.zip (from first post) to root of your sdcard (not necessary if you only want Hermes)
download and extract Hermes_payload.zip to root of sdcard (there should be two new folders one called hermes the other is gscript)
in gscript press Home Button add script > name it psfreedom pl3 or what ever >
in script box write
Code:
insmod /sdcard/psfreedom.ko
> save (make sure that'use su' option is on) this is for pl3 (not necessary if you only want Hermes)
in gscript press Home Button add script > name it Hermes payload or what ever >
in script box write
Code:
insmod /sdcard/hermes/psfreedom.ko
cat /sdcard/hermes/hermesv4.bin > /proc/psfreedom/payload
> save (make sure that'use su' option is on) this is for Hermes payload
(if you use the new keymaps then use center button instead of home button)
you can add all your script to your home screen by pressing the menu button (home or center button) add shortcut > gscript > (name of script you want to add)
Click to collapse
those two script are already included in Hermes_payload.zip under gscript folder you can add them to gscript by pressing 'Home Button add script > load file'
to switch from one payload to the other all you have to do is run 'rmmod psfreedom' in terminal or write a script for it in gscript and after you run it you can choose the other payload with out restarting you phone.
FYI the command 'cat /sdcard/hermes/hermesv4.bin > /proc/psfreedom/payload' can't be used with the newer psfreedom.ko and that why you need both the old one and the new one
download link Hermes payload
hermes + psn patch (thnx to bigd5783 from psx-scene for providing the bin)
hermes + psn patch rapidshare
hermes + psn patch + 3.50 spoofing
hermes + psn patch + 3.50 spoofing bin only
be warned that you will probably be banned and sony may break you ps3 use this with caution
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. 2 users initiated the deactivation and could not perform reactivation. This does not mean it will happen to everyone however it should be noted we are on unchartered territory here. No one knows if or when this may end or the bans may come.

any feedback on 3.15 ?
if it works i will build for the other 2 firmware

I can confirm it is working on touch pro with Froyo cyanogenmod 6.
But I think I lost wifi while upgrading to your version

wifi is working now, see first post

Oh thank you!
I am on 3.41
If I got it right I should use those modules with the zImage and the psfreedom.ko you provided, and I should be able to use wifi again, right?
EDIT: It still doesn't work, I may be doing somethign wrong...

I have no idea how to install this thing, can anybody give me a guide or something?

Hmm, is the step where I need to sync my phone with ActiveSync really absolutely necessary? Because I can't get it to sync ever since I installed Tael Rom.
I don't understand why ActiveSync would have anything to do with it when haret would close Windows Mobile anyway

The ActiveSync step is to put the usb port of the Raph into the the right mode. So yes it is necessary.

PSFreedom on Rhodium Android?

I was wondering if it's possible with the current state of Android on the Rhodium to get the PSFreedom working on it? It uses the MSM72k controller so it's theoretically possible?
Probably not until we get USB functioning fully
so does usb function fine on the HD2?
The Rhodium port is listed as "In Progress" see here:
Code:
psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?title=Device_compatibility_list
So fingers crossed
I want this ^^
But I don't if the usb is fully work on the HD2, someone know?

Perhaps you're not quite appreciating all the work that has gone into the HD2 port...
The dudes site seems to be down, but it's PSFreedom.com - he has information on what is required to port from the N900. Looks like most of the work is already done, as he's apparently made it very agnostic - just linux-specific stuff for the most part.
Someone put the HD2 files into the TP2 and see if it works
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777120#
just extract the files for the hack and put in your android folder
files
where I can get the files ???
I only have the whole image for hd2
thanks

Dubzah I am having problems with mine. I copied the files zimage, modules and ps3freedom.ko file over and when i try to run it. it comes back with an error of cannot allocate memory.
Do i need certain files on my PC or something? Could you give me the steps you did. also does it matter if it was windows 7?
also i am using the 2.2 froyo build with energy rom.

Right
1) Download the 2.2 reference .cab which you can find here:
Code:
reefermattness.scepterr.info/ProjectAndroid2.2Froyo.083010.cab
and install to your SDcard
2) Download the PSFreedom files from here:
Code:
downloads.moddingway.com/file/5411.html
3) Browse to "andboot" on your SDcard and replace the files with the 3 PSFreedom files (delete the "dirty" from the modules)
Now I just followed TaC's steps:

Would the one from http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/downloads work?
this should work on a tp1 isnt it the same processor?
Works.
I rebooted the phone. Connected the usb to the PC before starting haret, waited for it to boot completely and only then disconnected from the PC.
I don't know if it must be connected through USB.
It would be nice if someone could clarify that part, as there are no indicators whatsoever if your doing something wrong.

Shouldn't it be:
- In Android Terminal > su > cd sdcard > cd andboot > insmod psfreedom.ko
Or is psfreedom.ko ment to be in the root of the sdcard?
Also does "delete dirty from the modules" mean delete "-dirty" out of "modules-2.6.27.46-01162-g741ab49-dirty.tar.gz" file name?

PSFreedom Rhodium Tutorial

Prerequisites:
Tilt 2/Touch Pro 2 phone
HardSPL unlock
Energy Rom (not a prereq but it's the rom i never leave home without)
XDAndroid 2.2 files for tilt 2
XDAndroid launcher
PSfreedom Files for Raphael port
USB Cable
PS3 with firmware 3.41 or lower
Get all this stuff in a nice and neat little stack somewhere.
Before we begin:
A) Gotta do steps 14 through 20 (especially 20) everytime you shut down your PS3 and turn it back on. If you reboot your phone after you've turned off the PS3, you gotta do steps 11 through 20.
B) I'm not responsible for anything you break! This is simply a guide on how I did things to get it working.
C) None of these files are mine and I have included links to every site I pulled info from for this guide at the bottom. If you find this tutorial helpful, please visit all links and donate a little something to the cause!!!!
D) 99% of your problems will be step 19 (usb device is unknown) TIMING IS CRUCIAL!!!!
E) If you're running any overclocking software, disable it before you try to boot XDAndroid or it will not launch!
As a wise mario once said, here we gooooooo!
Step 1:
Connect your phone to your PC via usb cable.
Step 2:
HardSPL unlock (if you've flashed a custom rom than this is likely already done. If you haven't, than do the hard-spl and check out the energy rom.)
Step 3:
Go here and download the rar file. Extract and copy the contents to the root of your sd card. If you downloaded the cab file, you need to copy it to the root of your sd card and then go into file explorer on your phone. Click the cab and INSTALL TO SD CARD!!! Your SD card should now look like X:\andboot
Step 4:
Go here and get the most up to date files appropriate for your PS3 Firmware (to find your firmware version, on your ps3 go to settings, system settings, system information and shoot yourself in the foot if its higher than 3.41). Extract the contents and copy the files to the andboot folder on your SD card ovwerwriting anything that gets in the way of you and your jailbreakd'd'd PS3.
Step 5:
Go here and get this file. Extract and replace the psfreedom.ko in your andboot folder with the one in this rar. (yes, after you download this file, extract it and copy it over the psfreedom.ko file in your andboot folder on your SD card. This is to allow backups to work properly) COPY ONLY THE PSFREEDOM.KO FILE
Step 6:
Get this and copy it to the root of your SD card. Open file explorer on your phone and navigate to the root of your SD card . Run the file you just copied and install it to your device (not sd card)
Step 7:
Make sure your phone is connected to PC via Active Sync (on the phone, click start, settings, connections, usb to PC)
Step 8:
On the phone, press start and run android launcher, (from here you can update android or go to advanced and select some other options)DO NOT UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!
Step 9:
Select your device in Android Launcher and click boot (DO NOT REMOVE USB CABLE UNTIL XDANDROID IS COMPLETELY BOOTED!!! Once it is booted, COMPLETELY, disconnect usb from phone and computer. Completely booted means at the home screen, not at the xdandroid splash screen!)
Step 10:
Now that you're in xdandroid (if it's your first time, put on a fresh pair of underwear before you continue) go to menu, dev tools, terminal emulator
Step 11:
in terminal, type su and hit enter
step 12:
in terminal, type "cd /sdcard/andboot" (no quotation marks)
Step 13:
in terminal, type "insmod psfreedom.ko" (no quotation marks)
Step 14:
Take your phone and your usb cable and carefully walk to your PS3 (STOP, I DIDN'T SAY PLUG ANYTHING IN YET!!!!!!)
Step 15:
turn off the power switch on the back of the PS3 or kick the main breaker in your house, whichever is easiest for you to find. If it's a diet PS3 (slim), unplug the cable from the back or blow up the transformer outside on the power pole. I chose to blow up the transformer, it makes a louder boom and prettier sparks than simply unplugging your PS3 but what you do is TOTALLY up to you XD.
Step 16:
unplug any usb devices from your PS3
Step 17:
Plug usb cable into phone and PS3
Step 18:
Wait 5 or 6 seconds and turn switch/breaker back on. Then wait another 5 or 6 seconds.
Step 19: !!!!!!TIMING IS CRUCIAL!!!!!!
hit power button immediately follwed by the eject button like your drumming your fingers on them. You should hear three beeps and the PS3 should take a little longer to boot
Step 20:
Flip sony the bird
Step 21:
I needed one more step because I don't like even numbers
I think I covered everything, If I left Anything out, please let me know.

edit: Me and a few other users have had problems with the original backup manager. The only backup manager I use isGaia Manager. This may not be the most up to date version so do a little searching and you'll find what you need.
Here's a great guide to make a Stealth manager (one that has a better chance of not being detected by Sony. Again, only a better CHANCE. I've played online with my own personal ninja manager but honestly, I'm just waiting until the bans start as I'm sure I'll be one of the first to go XD
After doing some research and kicking my dog for causing the unknown usb device error repeatedly I found a semi solution. When XDAndroid boots, open market and search for Advanced Task Killer. There's also a froyo version bur I haven't checked that one out. Anyway, download it and run before you boot the PS3. Also put the phone into airplane mode. I've had 1st boot success with this a few times now.
i have less stages))
1. payload io SD card
2.add custom shell commands in /sdcard/andboot/conf/froyo.user.conf

Generally speaking, if someone tells you to shoot yourself in the foot, it usually means you're screwed.
Technically speaking, 3.41 is the latest frimware supported by psfreedom. Sony patched the jailbreak in 3.42 and you CAN NOT downgrade. If you've passed 3.41, you're technically, screwed.
Great tutorial, very well explained; however i have a problem with step 5.
The psfreedom.ko i get from that .rar file gives me an invalid module error and the one i download from psfreedom.com just doesn't allow me to play backups.
What am i missing?
Thanks!
*edit*: i was using the wrong manager ... apparently it wasn't compatible with PL3. All fixed!

ADB INSTALLATION AND TUTORIAL By Rapid81, MoDaCo
1. First af all, you need to set the ports under Android.
To do that, write this to the phone: *#7284#
Then you need to select the followings:
UART -> Modem
USB -> PDA
After this, go to the Settings\Applications\Development and check the USB Debugging if it not checked already.
2. Download the Android SDK from here. Install (if you downloaded the installer) or unzip to a location where you'll easly found it. For example C:\android-sdk-windows.
3. Download Samsung KIES. Install it. It contains 2 of the 3 necessary drivers.
4. Download the SamsungADB.zip and unzip it somewhere, where you'll easly found it.
5. If the Android did not went to sleep after it started, then unplug from USB (if it plugged) and put to sleep with the Hangup button. After that, plug onto the USB. The Windows will install 2 of the 3 drivers automatically. The 3rd one will not be found. This will be the ADB driver. Go to the Device Manager and browse the driver (not just add the path to the search root, you need to select the driver yourself!!!) what you extracted from the SamsungADB.zip. Choose one of the followings:
Samsung Android Composite ADB Interface or ADB testing interface and install it.
If the Windows ask for a confirmation to install a not trusted driver, then say yes.
6. Press Windows+R and type into "cmd".
In the upcoming windows, navigate to the unzipped or installed Android SDK directory with the following command:
For example: "cd c:\android-sdk-windows"
In there, navigate to the "platform-tools" directory with this command:
"cd platform-tools"
7. This is where the party started.
Commands you can use:
adb devices -> If you see your device here, you did a good job.
adb shell -> console
In the console:
logcat -> List all android events/errors
cat /proc/kmsg -> kernel log
adb push filename folder -> Send file from Windows to android, to the specified folder
adb pull filename -> Receive file from Android to Windows
Backup all installed applications (rooting is necessary):
tar czvf /storage/App_backup.tzg /data/app* -> Backup
tar xzvf /storage/App_backup.tzg -> Restore

Working GSM data network. The o2droid.zip file contain the latest kernel, modules, patches and applications from Rapid and Voyteckst su correction.http://o2droid.phj.hu/o2droid.zip
9/2/2011
Sleep problem solved, Alarm function working, battery drain and percentage correction, upgrading from C4 to D1 the 6500 framework, more powerfull dalvik machine (Linpack 5.x) and all the usable corrections published. There are two version, a simple upgrade to the beta: o2bupdate.zip (just unzip to My Storage) and a new filesystem including all changes and rearranged file structure: o2b2filesys.zip (contains the filesystem as tar.gz and the kernel, must unpack and copy manually - no automatic install). The later one is the beta2 (this will be commiting to the SVN); there are some changes in the automatic updates when using the beta2 image to avoid the mistakes : the new automatic filenames are o2b2update.[tar.gz][sh]. Neither version contains the EGL libraries!http://o2droid.phj.hu/index_en.php
10/2/2011
Bugfix: the init dont allowed the GSM network to get DNS, dalvik vm problems. update it with o2b2update.tar.gz ( for beta2, if you use just the corrected beta, please rename it to o2bupdate.tar.gz). There is a strange error: within telephone conversation in approx.30 seconds the LCD blanks but also the sound muted - UNTIL NOT SOLVE, please use the Call Light application from Market!!!
11/2/2011
We have prepared Beta2 SD card installer (1024mb only). It includes latest update (2011-02-10). Download it http://87.229.73.80/beta2_1024.zip (it will wipe Your current installation). As always it doesn't contain 2D/3D libraries from Samsung (if You found them somewhere on the web put it before first boot to My Storage as o2b2update.tar.gz).
Note: There is still error, when within telephone conversation in approx.30 seconds the LCD blanks but also the sound muted - UNTIL NOT SOLVE, please use the Call Light application from Market!!!
3/3/2011
Updated kernel and modules with support for accelerometer, compass and light sensor, keylayout files for new kernel. Download it here . Install as always: replace zImage, put o2b2update.tar.gz, o2b2update.sh to My Storage. It will work on second boot (because old init.rc is executed first).
So now working things are:
Phone
WiFi
GPS
FM Radio
Market
Data connections (GPRS)
Sensors (only proximity sensor not yet)
2D/3D (Samsung not allowed to us to distribute the 2D/3D library binaries, so they are not included in the image).
Things which are working (low level tests), but without android support for now:
Bluetooth
Camera (there are some works to be done)
8/3/2011
To enable the automatic time update from the GSM there is a simple update script. The timeupdate.zip contains both o2update.sh and o2b2update.sh, copy the proper version (in the case of beta2 image: o2b2update.sh) to the root of the My Storage and haret... At first boot just updating the system database to use the telephone network time, so must reboot again to really use this setting and show the correct time.
9/3/2011
There was a rare condition when the SD card appeared sooner than the internal flash at boot - resulting the "No init found" error in kernel. The reason that the sdhci interfaces was not stricly assigned to an mmc device - the first sdhci was the mmc0. This is corrected now, so the s3c-sdhci.1 is the mmc0, .2 is the mmc1 and so on. The corresponding kernel ( svn version 100): zImage
19/3/2011
New kernel and modules (+ keylayout for those who didn't update it yet). Main changes are: fixes for SDHCI/MMC (ported from 2.6.32, external sd is much faster now), new battery profile (now percentage is more like in WM), compass calibration bugfix. Download here: kernel_19032011.zip.

UNOFFICIAL RELEASES
There is an ISO file, which was compiled by Mishatir, a MoDaCo member whom is dev team related, I think. I know this is a bit late....I'm sorry because I am unaware of this unofficial release too until recently read the comment on MoDaCo.
Alright to saves time, this is what it does. This ISO is a all-in-one package where it contains the updates and some modification (camera still not working yet though), but may or may not work with devices other than I8000, because currently I only tried out on my device.
From my experience, this ISO file is really amazing, no sleep of death issue, low battery consumption (dropped from 91% to 80% for 12+ hours) and pre-installed with few apps that you can try out.
Comment by MoDaCo member on the ISO
file
Short guide by Mishatir on ISO
Instructions:
1. Wipe out all Beta 1/2 files on your My Storage and format your SD card under Samsung Settings.
2. Download the ISO file here.
3. Unrar the files.
4. Connect your phone in WM mode and placed the "iso folder" under root of My Storage.
5. Run haret.exe in the ISO folder.
6. Android should bootup.
This ISO has few updates (kernel + modules.tar.gz) by Mishatir, if you want to update them,
- zImage --------> Replace zImage under ISO folder
- modules.tar.gz ----------> Rename to o2b2update.tar.gz and placed them under root of My Storage
To avoid Sleep of death , I use "Call End" key to lock and unlock the phone...Pressing" End key" seems to be easier and more responsive to unlock the screen.
Personally I don't recommend to update because since I update it I faced a few problems which eventually cause the Android not booting up....so try all this update at your own risk.
Anyway, this is a very nice and most stable release. Now I can use Android on my daily basis. For more questions, please leave a comment.

Download 2d/3d drivers and install here (you need these else above beta will freeze every 5 mins):

To manage ext2 partitions from Windows PC and to correctly format your SD card:
To delete ext2 from Windows PC I use EASEUS Partition Master 6.5.2 Home Edition. It is freeware, and seems to work well. Then to format the micro SD I turn on mass storage in samsung settings, connect to PC and use the SD formatting tool 3.0 from sdcard.org. It uses FAT (not FAT32) and 32kb cluster sizes. I do quick format...

yes it uses haret.

Is there any plan for supporting Omnia Pro (B7610)? Most of components are equally identical.
yes, it's working even better! battery drains slower now.

What is recoveryYou can boot to recovery menu by holding volume- while booting your device. From recovery meny you can calibrate your touchscreen, wipe data and do this kind of stuff. Installing SDE creates new entry to recovery menu, called Special Developers Edition. There you can remove android kernel, flash new, export hdd and data. In recovery move up and down with volume + and -. Select by pressing power button
What is SDE and how to install itSDE is shortened word from Special Developers Edition. After SDE is installed, your tablet is able to boot to official rom, recovery, and SDE rom. Most of the roms advice you to use "Remove android kernel" from SDE before you install kernel. When you remove your android kernel from there and install kernel from custom rom, your archos boots directly to custom rom. If you don't delete it, your device boots to official, but keeping volume - while booting gives you change to boot to SDE.
There are 3 guides how to install SDE. Official SDE watermarks your device for archos (there is no watermark on screen ), so they can detect you have installed SDE in some point. It stays even if you remove SDE. Official way is more safe. Also, it removes "only" software warranty. If your devices powerbutton, Usb-port or etc brokes, you can still send it to warranty. Link to official SDE install guide. Big thanks for Shano56.
Then there is unofficial, a bit more dangerous method. It doesn't watermark your device, but is more complicated. Guide tells that it's outdated, but it worked for me. I used official 4.0.4 version while installing. Link to the guide. Big thanks to Shano56.

Hi !
I uninstalled SDE by mistake yesterday !
...so, you can enable (install) unofficially SDE following this path ( work 100% on firmware 4.0.25 ) :
On your tablet :
check on Settings-> Developer options -> USB debugging on !
connect USB cable ( PC to tablet )
On your PC :
> adb push 1 /data/local
> adb push 2 /data/local
> adb shell
$ chmod 0755 /data/local/*
$ ./data/local/1
$ exit
> adb reboot
> adb shell
$ ./data/local/2
$ exit
> adb reboot
> adb push zimage /data/local/tmp
> adb push initrd.cpio.lzma /data/local/tmp
> adb push abcbox /data/local/tmp
> adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/abcbox
> adb shell /data/local/tmp/abcbox kd_flasher -k /data/local/tmp/zimage -i /data/local/tmp/initrd.cpio.lzma
( now you have installed unofficially SDE ! )
Flash Root version or other Custom Rom :
> adb reboot
> adb shell rm /data/local.prop
> adb push archos.ext4(.update) /mnt/storage
Go to SDE -> ( check "Reboot" on power off menu , and after a while press & keep volume down until you see SDE menu !)
Go to Recovery System -> Developer Edition Menu -> Remove Android Kernel -> I Undestand -> OK -> Developer Edition Menu -> Flash Kernel & Initramfs -> copy here zImage and initramfs.cpio.lzo appropriate archos.ext4(.update) -> OK -> wait to boot !
Now you have Rot version installed !
Here you will find the necessary files : Enable_SDE.zip

How to multiboot android 4.0 based romsInstall modified initfram from this topic. Use the zimage from the rom you want to multiboot. AFAIK you can multiboot with following combos:
[email protected], Ubuntu (download newer kernel from later pages.), Root 4.0.7
and
AOKP, CyanogenMod 9.
You cant use [email protected] and AOKP because they do not use same kind of data. That means that after you have run first rom, the second will bootloop. That is also why it requires wiping data when changing from stock to aokp and vise versa.
Detailed:
Download dmenu-0.3a.zip, and extract initframfs to desktop. Then download [email protected] and stock 4.0.7 rooted. Extract Image files and zimage from either one of the roms. Now just instal like described in earlier section, while using initframfs from multiboot and kernel from other rom.
Installing 3G stick and Huawei modems support.
Trevd made a package to add 3G stick and extra Huawei modems work for AOKP and generally all ICS ROMs. This guy is awesome because he also made some Huawei modems work.
trevd said:
Hi surdu_petru and AOKP fans.
Great work as always, It's not a rom i'll ever use but It's the first time I've loaded an AOKP Rom, I like notification layout, I'll be having that away for my own personal rom Anyway I was more just passing through and noticed 3G was not working yet. As seen as though that seems to be my speciality and preoccupation/addiction for the last 9 months I thought I do something to remedy that situation for you.
Here's an hotfile link to download the update [ 3g-archos-aopk.7z ] this should contain everything you need to get the Archos 3G Dongle, just for ****s and giggles as a extra bonus i've also included the huawei support file as well :good:
Installation:
From a command prompt / bash terminal
Code:
7z x 3g-archos-aopk.7z
adb push 3g /
adb shell reboot_into sde
extracting the 3g-archos-aopk.7z will give youu a 3g directory in you current directory, we then push the contents of the 3g directory to the root direcotry on the device. This operation is recursive.
Have Fun!
What follows is a detailed explanation of what files and modifications are required to add 3G support.
Archos 3G Stick
The changes / additions to add this functionality breaks down like this ; The following required binary's were on the device already:
** /lib/modules/hso.ko is insmod'd by the device specific init file /etc/init/init..rc
Code:
/lib/modules/hso.ko[B]**[/B]
/usr/bin/usb_modeswitch
/system/lib/libtcl-ril.so
/system/bin/rild
/system/bin/pppd
/system/xbin/chat
/etc/ppp/init_pppd_datakey
/etc/ppp/ip-up-datakey
/etc/ppp/ip-down-datakey
/etc/ppp/peers/datakey
/etc/chatscripts/datakey_start
/etc/chatscripts/datakey_stop
/etc/usb_modeswitch/1bbb_f000
The following required services were already defined in the device specific init.rc's located in /etc/init/init..rc ,
*** switch_ms_3g defined by /etc/init/init.archos.rc
Code:
service service switch_ms_to_3g[B]***[/B]
service pppd_secrets
service pppd_datakey
service ril-daemon
So what's missing? you may ask as this pretty much is everything that is needed by the Archos 3G Stick.
Standard Archos Roms use the UsbKeyManager.apk system service to start the switch_ms_to_3g and ril-daemon service's. I replace that with my own ueventd handling native service and add an additional to configuration file keep everything clean
Code:
/system/bin/hotplugd
/init.dongle.rc
I've added the following line to the top of the /init.rc
Code:
import init.dongle.rc
All that is left to do now is enable mobile networks on the rom. I used apktool to decompile the /system/framework/framework-res.apk and change the following values
res/values/bools.xml
Code:
true
true
res/values/arrays.xml
Code:
wifi,1,1,1,-1,true
mobile,0,0,0,-1,true
mobile_mms,2,0,2,60000,true
mobile_supl,3,0,2,60000,true
mobile_hipri,5,0,3,60000,true
mobile_fota,10,0,2,60000,true
mobile_ims,11,0,2,60000,true
mobile_cbs,12,0,2,60000,true
wifi_p2p,13,1,0,-1,true
"1,1"
"0,1"
"7,1"
"9,1"
res/values/strings.xml
Code:
ppp1
Huawei Support
The extend this functionality further I added the following files
Code:
/etc/ppp/init_pppd_gprs
/etc/ppp/ip-up-gprs
/etc/ppp/ip-down-gprs
/etc/ppp/peers/gprs
/etc/chatscripts/gprs_start
/etc/chatscripts/gprs_stop
/etc/usb_modeswitch/ [ numerous configurations files ]
/lib/modules/usb_wwan.ko
/lib/modules/option.ko
/system/lib/libhuaweigeneric-ril.so
We also need to chmod 6755 /system/bin/pppd but that is handled/checked in the /init.dongle.rc so there is no need to do that manually

Change symlinks/bindsTrevd wrote guide to let people know how to change binds. That way you can move large folders, like Gameloft games and navigator files to ExternalSD, saving InternalSD space.
trevd said:
If you after freeing up space, it is still possible with a bit of hacking voodoo . There are 2 ways I know of in fact.
METHOD 1 - SDCARD SERVICE
you can point the /storage ( /mnt/storage in reality ) to any directory you like. I've currently got mine pointing to an multi partitioned external 32gb sdcard. :0 all you need to do is change the sdcard service in the /etc/init/init.A101S.rc,
Currently it mounts /data/media to /mnt/storage, if you have an external sdcard card handy, try this as a quick and dirty test
From a terminal emulator or adb shell run the following commands
Code:
stop sdcard ;
sdcard /mnt/sdcard 1000 1015 &
ls /storage
You will now see that the external sdcard can be access through /storage. to kill the test run
Code:
pkill -9 sdcard
start sdcard
Everything should be back to normal. As I mentioned to make a more permanent change edit the following line in the /etc/init/init.A101S.rc
Code:
service sdcard /system/bin/sdcard /data/media 1000 1015
METHOD 2 - MOUNT BIND
The other, perhaps more straight forward method uses the bind argument on the mount to command to "mount an already visible filesystem elsewhere" .
In the example I'll bind the external sdcard to a directory in the internal storage
use the terminal emulator or adb once again to execute the following commands
Code:
mkdir /storage/sdcard
mount --bind /mnt/sdcard /storage/sdcard
To make this more parmanent, I would probably create a wrapper shell script for the sdcard service to make sure it all gets started together, that's just my preference, As we say in trade ( or maybe it's a saying i've just made up :silly: ) ; "there's more than one way to mount a file system!"
In Summary: I would go with method 2 as this effectively achieves the desired effect off "symlinking" an external directory in the /storage
Cheers

Installing ADBADB comes from word android development bridge, and it allows you to debug, move files and get shell access to your tablet.
Archos said:
First make sure you are running the latest ARCHOS firmware. Connecting by this method will give you user shell privileges. Learn more to know how to use ADB on Windows, Mac or Linux operating system:
Go to the Android SDK page and download the latest SDK for your operating system.
For Windows users only: Install the Archos ADB USB Driver for Windows. The driver is available at the ARCHOS support ftp (ftp://support.archos.com). Instructions how to install the driver are available at USB Driver for Windows site on Android Developers.
Add Archos vendor ID (0x0e79) to adb_usb.ini in .android folder in your home directory:
Windows: echo 0x0e79 >> "%USERPROFILE%\.android\adb_usb.ini"
Macos: echo "0x0e79" >> ~/.android/adb_usb.ini
Linux: echo "0x0e79" >> ~/.android/adb_usb.ini
For Linux users only: You need to add a udev rule if ADB only works as root:
Create a file /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules that contains the following lines:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device",
ENV{PRODUCT}=="e79/*", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="e79", MODE="0666"
Make the rule known to udev with the following command:
udevadm control --reload-rules (or udevcontrol reload_rules on older systems)

Running adb from anywhere
steviewevie said:
We need to update your Path variable. This lets you run adb on your PC from a command window no matter which directory you are in (which makes things a lot easier). If you don't setup your Path, then every time you want to run adb, you will either have to type the whole long pathname where you put adb, or cd to where you've put adb and run it from there (which could be inconvenient if you are transferring files to/from your phone).
On your PC, right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". (on Vista, click on "Change Settings"). Go to the "Advanced" tab, then select "Environment Variables". Find the "Path" variable in the list of variables that it shows (you might need to scroll), and then double-click on that entry to edit it. Add the full path of the "tools" and "platform-tools" folders of the SDK to your path. e.g. if the SDK has been installed in "c:\Program Files\android-sdk-windows", then add to your Path "c:\Program Files\android-sdk-windows\tools;c:\Program Files\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools" (Please Note - don't put any spaces between the semi-colon and pathname, otherwise it won't work !)

Installing SuperchargerSupercharger is a multiscript which makes the tablet work much better. Its created by Zeppelinrox, and its official topic is here. We are using also script manager in this guide. That way we can make MinFrees and OOM apply.
In this guide we'll use Apex launcher which is moved to /system/app for our default launcher.
We are also using adb to configure and run Supercharger.
Because stock launcher is odexed and i am not writing how to deodex, we are not using it.
First make sure apex is your default launcher. This can be tested by pressing home button in homescreen.
If it show mini previews of your homescreens, apex is your default launcher.
Now lets begin:
go to here and download newest file. At
the time of writing, it is Update 9_RC11_test6. Move it to your adb folder.
Then open commandline. This can be opened with windowskey + R and writing cmd. Navigate
to adb folder using cd command. I have made adb to run from anywhere, so i just navigate to the downloaded file.
Now use command "adb push v6* /mnt/sdcard" then use command "adb shell". Now you should have
shell access to your tablet. Now do following
su
cd /mnt/sdcard
sh V6* /remember capital V)
Supercharger script should open now. After presentation, script should print after telling your busybox version
"com.anddoes.launcher is the home launcher!" Now continue install. Supercharger will tell you everything you need to know.
So just follow the instructions. After choosing kernel tweak, you get bunch of permission denieds.
We can't help them, so lets just continue.I recommend on using all the tweaks that you can,
but it is your choise do you want to use or not. After all the selections are selected and your in
driver panel, choose number 32. It'll reboot your tablet and wipe dalvik. When the tablet has booted, lets run supercharger script again.
So write these again:
su
cd /mnt/sdcard
sh V6_Super*
After getting to drivers panel, you notice that minfrees are not in effect, and neither is OOM Grouping Fix BUT if they are, you can ignore this step..
Install script manager from market and open it. Give it root permissions and navigate to /system/etc/init.d
press SS99SuperCharger to open its settings. Now press the Su button and then Boot button.
Now press save, and then click it's name which appers to right. Then press back button and reboot.
Now Minfrees should work, and OOM too.
Now you can run 22 if you want to try it. Supercharger is now fully working.
Installing Chainfire3D
Chainfire said:
Chainfire3D is an intermediary OpenGL driver. What does that mean? It means that Chainfire3D sits between your apps and the graphics drivers, and can intercept and/or change commands between the two. It has some built-in functions, and can be further extended with plugins to provide extra functionality.

It is very useful for running gameloft games and other games too. I recommend buying it. There are some plugin for it, but i'm not going to tell you about it now.Play store link.
After downloading it, open it and choose "Chainfire3D Driver" and from there "install". Then confirm it and tablet should reboot. Now reopen it and choose "Default opengl setting". From there you can tweak 3D performance if some games lag. Also, if you install plugin, there you can apply them. I personally use "reduce texture quality".
But why?
This section is to point few reason why to follow these guides. Lets begin:
SDE
Well, you should install this if you want to customize your tablet. If your happy with your tablet running stock, you don't need this, or any other guides.
Custom roms/kernels
Custom roms allow you to use root, they make your tablet faster and add extra functionality. This "functionality" includes: Overclock, run init.d scripts, enable both cores with all governors, root and themes. The benefits are not limited to these, but I could name this quickly. If you wan't to try something which is close to stock, but still has root and some custom functionalities, i would recommend deodexed 4.0.7, or [email protected]
Install official roms
These roms do not require SDE, but will not include root or anything fun . Updating your official rom has many benefits. They include fixes and boost your tablets performance.
Multiboot
Multibooting allows you to have 2 or more roms, which you can choose which to boot on startup. I would recommend this if you want to test functions with root, but still have "backup plan" if testing rom renders unbootable.
3G support
Basicly this allowes some extra huawei 3G sticks to work. There is no list of working stick, you just have to try and hope.
Change symlinks/binds
These allow you to "move" eg. gameloft games to external sd, and allow you to acces your externalsd via internalsd folder.. That way your gamedata does not eat the valuable internalsd space.
ADB
You need this to transfer rom to your tablet. It is also required when you sent logcat reports to help remove bugs.
SuperCharger
This makes your tablet work more fluid. I personally install supercharger to all my android devices. It removes need for task killer, and makes the device work better. Everyone has different results, and it costs only time to install, so i would recommend installing it.
Chainfire3D
This tool allows you to play games made for other GPUs and it can tweak application graphics. You can make the game look worse, but run better or adjust the grphics for a bit higher, so the game looks nicer.

How to activate second core for all govenors in surdu_petrus roms?
To activate the second core, you need the following steps :
- copy /system/S1tweak in /system/etc/init.d/ or ( > adb shell ; # cp /system/S1tweak /system/etc/init.d ; # exit )
- open No-frills CPU Control :
- choose the desired Governor ( but not hotplug ) !
- choose the desired frequency , but not overclocked ! ( when the device will boot - will open with the selected frequency , so please choose max. frequency = your max. stock frequency )
- check "Apply on boot"
- check "Applay"
- check allow if superuser asked permission
- reboot your device !
- Now , both core will be used in any selected Governor ( other than hotplug ! ).

Can I just drag the .zip file to the RAMDISK that appears when I flash zImage and initramfs?
No! Archos recovery cannot read ZIP files. You must first EXTRACT, then copy the contents of the extracted folder. NOT the folder itself. This means you will have two files on the RAMDISK, and no additional folders. If you don't know what a RAMDISK is, try Google or Wikipedia. If you get stuck in a boot loop because you forgot to extract archos.update.ext4 or drive.zip, you must follow the instructions below.
Help! I am stuck in a bootloop! Archos splash screen appears and keeps rebooting. I messed up when I was rooting, and now android will not boot! I accidentally formatted my device, and now I cannot boot into android.
This is a simple mistake and in 99% of cases it is easy to fix. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Download official Archos G9 firmware for ALL G9 tablets (aos file) HERE
Step 2: Boot into recovery turning your device off and then holding volume down + power at the same time
Step 3: Choose "Update Firmware"
Step 4: Connect USB cable to computer and tablet
Step 5: A removable device should appear (RAMDISK), copy the file you just download straight to that drive
Step 6: Press the power button once the file is done copying. DO NOT UNPLUG your device until it has finished updating and has booted back into android.
If you did not format your tablet or delete any personal media, your files should be uneffected.
Will I lose SDE menu if I update my tablet with official AOS or OTA update
As of the latest update (4.0.6) no official update from Archos has removed SDE menu. You should be fine, and your SDE menu should remain untouched.

Hi there!
You have been busy! Thanks for kind words, Just an heads up really, you might want to update your post as I deleted the usb-modem-binary-redist github repo yesterday as it was a bit too clever for it's own good and I think a bit of abuse/misuse of the concept branching! Just because you can, doesn't always mean you should LOL, with that in mind I'd probably advise against linking to my github repos as they don't stay static for very long. I generally leave the hotfile links up "forever" so link away with them.
The Information and files included in the new AOKP post about 3G Dongles should be good across all ICS roms. Finally allow me to throw out this mini guide I wrote a while back which explains an "app-free" method of freeing up space, I noticed there been a bit of discussion about it, Using an app just seem like overkill, but that's just me I suppose.
Anyway good work. :good:

Yes, you must use adb. I assume your "untoot" means unrooted. You use cd command to navigate to your adb folder and from there to platform-tools. Also drop archos.ext4.update to there. Then use the adb command to move the file. Moving file to that location does not require root.

Thanks, for so fast reply Dear...
I did the same as you advised and a drive with name ending with "REC" with a capacity of 299 MB appeared. I tried to copy the Surdu's Deoedex update but it has more weight in MBS about 390. So it could not. I tried original Archos ROM with weight of 186 MB and it copied. Started update but returned with an error "Update failed: (221)".....
Please advise.
Note: I also tried in SDE menu to export data drive and got a drive 1.48 GB which I formated from win 7 and succeded in copying Stock and Surdu's ROMs one by one but always failed to get android and it always say failed update. Still get unanimated Archos logo on startup with no further bootup.

On export of HDD from "Repair system" menu...>>>> A drive appeared in PC but not opening as it says " Insert disk into drive". I think it is the problem which is preventing from installing the AOS file to run Android.
Please advise.

Thanks Julle..But Now I understand that official ROM is not installing because of unofficial kernel flash I have already installed and had flushed original one. I think if I get original kernel then I can arrive to original Android ICS which you have mentioned. Please advise if you have any address of original kernel for "firmware_archos_it4.aos".
THANKS and Best Regards...
Further to my above thread...I found the stock kernel and flashed it but still after installing kernel and then original firmware, its giving same error of update failed (221).
Please advise if any remedy you prefer.
Regards...

To install the update I linked, you shouldn't need any kernel changes. Removing kernel from SDE removes the official kernel, but that does not prevent installing official update. Also installing custom kernel will not prevent installing official rom.
I just do not understand why you get the 221 error as most of the people get it when that have incorrect file there or already have newer stock ROM installed. It is possible that your windows format broke it, because windows formats it to wrong format. You should never format any other than sdcards in windows. You could try the format system in recovery and choosing reformat device. After that install the official update I linked.

Dumb question......I been reading the other post in regards to installing Windows 10 on the other surface 2..... Would I have to follow this tutorial or the one for the surface 2 if I have a surface 2 running rt? Also it says I need a keyboard..... Does it mean a USB keyboard or can I use my Microsoft soft keyboard?
This will work on rt 8.1 ??
Hey I see you've got a trick to install ublock on edge but the download link is missing, can you give it to us please, it's one of the last things I really need for my tablet to be totally functionnal
I finally managed to install Windows 10 on my Surface RT, and for now it's great! It's a shame that Microsoft didn't update the tablet officially, and that this version is so old that many newer apps don't work, but it's better than nothing!
Some useful informations I learned through the process:
1) Initially I used the recovery image for my language downloaded from Microsoft, and with this image I wasn't able to enable test mode after installing the secure boot policy. I tried the chinese image provided on Yandex (links are in other threads on this forum) and it worked on first try, so use that!
2) Even after enabling Test Mode, if you run the command Confirm-SecureBootUEFI in powershell, it still gives you True as result. I was worried that Secure Boot wasn't really disabled but I was wrong. To confirm that secure boot is disabled you have to enter the command prompt via recovery image and check the right corner of the screen if it says "secure boot is not configured correctly" or something like that. In that case, you can install W10 safely.
3) Some guides are wrong about the file you have to rename to remove the warning about the expiration of the build. The right file is LicensingUI.exe, not LogonUI.exe! LogonUI.exe is responsible for the login interface, if you rename it you won't be able to login on the next reboot, so pay attention!
4) Office 2013 is not activated for me, I tried to install the provided licences many times, but nothing. It seems to work anyway though. There's something I missed?
To be completely satisfied I need:
- a working version of the Crunchyroll app, the one in the store requires a newer build, anyone know how to find it?
- MSN Weather for W10, the one provided is the old W8 app.
- Ad blocker for Edge, someone wrote about sideloading uBlock but didn't share the files.
Does the office 2013 work? I installed it on my Surface RT with the Windows 10 build but it says that it only works on qualifying versions on windows and editing is disabled...

I was able to install it and getting working 100%...... there's another tread that's for installing windows 10 on surface 2 tablet and there's a link in the OP for a mega folder that contains the office 360 files and in it a file that edits the registry
Hello. I can also confirm that it works. I have installed Win 10RT and very happy with it. It really brings a lot of new experience to our tablet as same as a bit faster response.
If you want to use an adblock for Edge, the only one that works is Adblock, directly from the Store. However, adblock support in this build of Edge is very buggy, it eats a lot of ram (sometimes leading to crashes) and some sites fail to load with adblock enabled. So I suggest to install it and to manually acrivate/deactivate it when needed.
Speaking of the Store, I found a bug, at least for me: the install button works only for the apps you already own. So, if you want to install an app you never downloaded, you have to acquire it first on another PC and then on the Surface RT.
Does someone know how to make the the newer Microsoft store (Provided by @_CNR_)to work?
I installed it but however, it won't install any app because of a licence problem probably...
(The older store worked but it does not include all of the apps for example myTube)
If everything goes wrong can I just download a recovery image for 8.1 and install it again?

If everything goes wrong. Just boot from the recovery USB stick and reimage the Windows 8.1 using the same dism apply image method.
Does someone have the uBlock archive? There's no link in the OP

Ok I see. I ran into a different issue. I went to do the Windows 10 install today but to my surprise, I couldn't boot up. Luckily I still had my Windows 8.1 Full Recovery USB. But, for for some reason from the advanced troubleshooter, it tells me my USB device is invalid. Has anyone run into this before?
Can be updated to Windows 10 version 1909?

Of course not, the only build of ARM32 Windows 10 we have is this one, and it's leaked.
Wow, really cool!
I would like to know if the cameras work in windows 10? Thanks so much!
