App That Can Lock Files - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any applications that can lock files, rather than programs? For example, if I want to block certain pictures from being accessed on my memory car.

I been looking for this too, let me see what googling does, brb.
Edit:
Best answer i've found is adding a folder to the root of your sdcard and name it .nomedia, or just putting a period '.' (ie .pics) in front of whatever folder the pictures you don't want to be seen are in.

(App) App Protector
I think there are some free version floating around on the apps store that due the same thing.

I use pandora (not the radio) it also password protect those pics and videos

Ringtones and music

How do I get my music player to not play my ringtones? I have them in a separate folder yet they still play. Do i just have to rely on playlists?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Try creating an empty text file named .nomedia place it in the folder with your ringtones.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Seems to have worked thank you!

Now all my ringtones are canceled out :/

Back when I used to own an HTC Titan, I had to put my ringtones inside of the Windows Folder to make them be recognized as ringtones, and that used to work well for me to prevent windows media player to read them.
Here in android, I'm thinking it might be similar, but I'n a noob in android and I don't know the OS structure very well, so I hope this makes sense to someone and can reply back to us.
Ok sorry about that didn't think it would block them from being seen as ringtones all together. As the post above states mabey putting them in the system ringtone folder might let them be ringtones but not be recognized by media player. To do this you will need to be rooted and then move them to /system/media/audio/ringtones. Just throwing stuff out there i'm still pretty noobish.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yeah i will try that with root explorer.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yup. Threw them into system/media/notifications
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Nope system wont recognize them in that folder

APP to Hide *Encrypt* Photos / Videos

I have some interesting pictures I get from the random ex and I would like to keep them on my phone and hide them. At one point I was using software that hid the photos by changing the file name and placing this in a folder *ridiculous security* I need something that works better than this (security wise)
App on the market, vaulty free. I use it myself. Unless of course that was the app you were referring to, but it is password protected.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Vaulty only changes the file name (if my phone is lost and a minor knowledge in computers) they can easily see my private photos
Lol, you could just encrypt your phone. Or... Set up a screen lock and move all pics to internal storage.

Couldn't agree more, we must see to recommend the proper application.
Pictures or it didnt happen. ;-)
My Philosophy is the same "if it's not on pictures or video it never happened"
I can help. Send me said images and I will keep then for you on my phone. :B
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
You could put it into a folder and name it with a period before it and you wouldn't see it unless you had root explorer or hooked it up to a computer ".name"
Photovault works wells for me.
Gallery lock pro.. Trust me..

Internal memory full

For the life of me..I cant figure out why my internal memory is so full. Any ideas in how to clear it out? No music no pics only a few apps.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Try looking at it with this program.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ponpocostep.foldersizechart
I found a huge directory called android.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Is that folder ok to delete? It has all my apps listed in it. That seems like all the data for all the apps.
Only delete if your want to get rid of the data. Programs store data there. Mine is huge because of the gallery app.

That's what I thought, thanks

How do I get rid of these random images?

They show up in my gallery repeatedly. They look like malware pictures. I removed all of them once and they came back. So I looked at the details and found the file location. Removed the files. A day later they're back once again.

Some app is putting them there. I know that the Geico app puts silly pics on your phone.
Why is this an acceptable practice? It's like those airpush ads.
I deleted the whole appcache file and it still came back.

Torrents, stop using them on your phone lol.
Do you have any sideload games folders on your memory card? If you do, Gallery will create thumbnail images from those folders. The only way to tell the gallery not to read those folder is you must have .nomedia file in those folders. Good luck.

This might be the closest assumption to whats causing the problem. But its so convient to download torrents straight to my phone lol.

Jay-Z's Magna Carta

Just curious, who here installed the app from the PlayStore?
Do we get the copy on original release date or do we get early tracks?

Does anyone know a way that we can extract the downloaded content? Reason I'm asking is because I want to hear it from Poweramp as I have preset EQs in there.

How did you even get it to work? Mine just stays stuck at the opening screen and nothing happens. It used to have a bunch of demos and stuff. Now, nothing.

This app is another representation on how the man will control you. This app does nothing but harvest your data, sell it to the appropriate entities and not allow you to play how you want. The music industry is trying to pull a quick one on you. Extract the APK if you dont believe me. I personally will stick to other ways to get my music free
We did just get a whole album for free.......right?

I see you saying this, but what data does it harvest. What are you seeing in the decompile app that proves this? I don't even have the app in just curious why your making these claims and very broad claims too.

It doesnt even take that level of investigation. It's just common sense
THIS APPLICATION HAS ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING:
YOUR LOCATION
APPROXIMATE LOCATION (NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.
PRECISE LOCATION (GPS AND NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.
NETWORK COMMUNICATION
FULL NETWORK ACCESS
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
PHONE CALLS
READ PHONE STATUS AND IDENTITY
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
STORAGE
MODIFY OR DELETE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR USB STORAGE
Allows the app to write to the USB storage.
YOUR APPLICATIONS INFORMATION
RETRIEVE RUNNING APPS
Allows the app to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. This may allow the app to discover information about which applications are used on the device.

Why would an application intended to come to "Samsung Galaxy* fans first " need this much info?
