[Q] "Main version is older"-Rom 2.15.118.1 -How to beat it ? - Desire General

It is an brand Desire, I rooted, I loaded custom rom (worked fine), but the ROM manager screwed up something. I guess, it reflashed the bootloader (or recovery?), but failed.
Now the desire cannot boot. It stucked at the screen, with logo.
The bootloader says :
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.10.05.23
If I try to go to RECOVERY the screen goes white, and nothing happens.
If I put the PB99IMG.zip to SD card, the HBOOT finds it, but says, "Main version is older"
Is any way to reFlash the rom ?
What to do ?

have your tried installing a RUU then restarting all over again?

Yep, I tried, in USB_HBoot and USB_FastBoot mode (only available for me) but I`v got error (152 or 170).
Should I use some specific version RUU ?

U should read all NEwbie Threads more carefully again and again ! If u do this nothing can go wrong !U have to easily reflash the recovery! Just use Google!

From that I read, to make reflash the recovery You need a loaded sytem.
This is what I do not have

*note* you will have to download the android sdk, copy the recovery image into the tools folder, start cmd in tools folder and then type that command in.

Yes, I know sdk - already tried - I get protection error, not flashed.

He has S-on. That will not work.
I think you need to try and find a rom which contains your HBOOT and try and flash that.
Sent from my Amiga 500 using Workbench

Right my bad
anyway, have you tried other PB99IMG.zips ?

As I wrote before: "I am not able to fully load the sytem"

For me it sounds like recovery did not successfully flash from unrevoked - but how can I unscrew this ?!?
Now, I launched successfully RUU under USB_Fastboot !
But I tried a number of stock images-roms (with GoldCard - my phone is brand one) and each time I get error :
140:BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR - on Desire screen : "Main Version is older"
My rom version: 2.15.118.1
What can be done ??? How to beat it ?

Sorry for the previous inappropriate answer.
So if you can still boot to hboot just install the drivers from here
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
assumed you're running Windows and then root using:
http://unrevoked.com/#desire
After that you can install basically whatever you want (don't install stuff not matching your phone though) from the recovery
menu.
Good luck

Any other ideas ?????

You've been told what to do on Androidforums so I'd suggest following that

You mean this :
You have a bit of a problem then. You could try a branded update with a higher release number (e.g. Three's froyo), and then downgrade that.
But I can not find update with higher rel. than 2.15.118.1

I think the same happened to me when i tried to unlock my Desire. I juste had te redo it until it worked.

I made a little progress - I have access to recovery, then I press VolUp+Power there is op screen:
E:/Can`t open /cache/recovery/command
I tried fake-recovery but its impossible to flash-error - flash aborted.
Can I do something now and maybe and solve my problem?

So, I give up
I`m sending the phone to an authorized service.
We'll see - warranty success or not (
Thanx 2ever1 for time and help

Give it another try, may be...
Sorry mate! Didn't read your answer till now. Did you try other RUUs. There's a bunch of them in that URL: shipped roms (it is somewhere in the forum juste search it) for Bravo.
For me, to upgrade from the stock "Eclair", i used this one "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed" and it worked just fine (before that i upgraded via stock zip to froyo but the unrevoked didn't work). Then i re used the unrevoked3 and it worked in third attempt.
I guess, there was a problem in the way the phone handels the transfer of data (USB dosen't act quick enough to send the right amount of data). So the first time when my phone bouted up, it couldn't get all data from the unrevoket script at the right speed so it continued booting with the old version of recovery prog without routing.
After it worked, i upgraded my radio to the "32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14" via recovery and zip (found somewhere in the forum) and it was ok.
At least give it another try. It's all yours.

Bootloop, no root and hboot 0.93

Hi,
i´ve wanted to update the phone (its from my little sister...and i have a few experience with flashing of an touch diamond..)
so, i startet a system update (settings -> phone infos -> system...somethink like this...i am not so sure anymore...)
(i have done a root with unrevoked³, 3 weeks ago, i hope/think...but i think, i doesnt work fine!)
the message came, the phone has rebooted and the clockwork mod startet... i switched off the verify signe option and started the update...no failure in the progress...but now the phone has bootloops!
i have absolutly no idea what to do now!
so the phone status is now:
bootloops
hboot works !? (hboot = 0.93)
and recoverymode...
i can get the cid
i think there are no root right
the phone is branded (t-mobile)
maybe someone can explain something to me
which steps can i perform...i think i have to downgrade the hboot?
i`ve been reading comments for more than 2 hours now....

You applied an Official OTA over a Rooted Desire..
The system is slighltly corrupted and has probably lost root rights.
Try wiping the phone from Recovery menu..Are you able to do that. Access recovery by pressing Vol- and Power button till system boots up..Press Vol- to select Recovery, press Power button to choose recovery
If a red triangle is shown, at the moment, press Both Vol+ and Power button together.
Choose: Wipe data/factory reset, and then Choose:Reboot system
Does that solve your issue?
Also you said you're rooted. Check http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/ if the site lists a ROM for your brand..

Well did you check the site for any Official RUUs for your brand?
Next step is flashing the RUU..
Before you flash anything, confirm that it a version above 2.0. Anything below that can brick your phone if it's SLCD. Also do you have a goldcard? If not, try making one with the goldcard instructions for a bricked Desire.
When you say you can get the cid, is it the actual sdcard cid?
What does this command give you?
adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
Try it in both fastboot and recovery

You dont flash that until you confirm that your device is AMOLED..An SLCD wont take it.. Told ya that anything <2.0 shouldnt be flashed..
If it's AMOLED, you can use this one, but only after you downgrade with Teppic74's tool..If it's SLCD, dont downgrade, it'll brick it.

i have hboot 0.93..seems to be the newest...!?
Might be on the box.
TFT/LCD=SLCD
Other: AMOLED
Hboot has nothing to do with it. It just wont allow you to flash a lower version.I was talking about is software version. You're downloading 1.21.110 which is very old, and unless totally sure that it wont brick the display, you cant flash that..
If your goldcard creation is successful, you can fix by debranding the phone..You can then worry about branding it later on when you have to take it to service.
You didnt say of you got output on the adb cid command I gave you..That can tell if you will be able to make goldcard..

[Q] Flashed Gingerbread and gone wrong

Hi all,
I have read docs until I am blue in the face and I cant get my phone going again. I fear I am going around in circles.
I had a defrost 2.2 installed and i thought I would put a latest radio on and try a gingerbread rom(Oxygen v2.0 RC5).
I only got the white HTC screen after this.
I fear I might have probs with s-off or something..
I cant get my clockwork recovery working now and I cant get the adb stuff working either.
I have tried unrevoked,recovery-windows.bat,and now alpharev - tinycore.
I am stuck with the trusty old red triangle. argghh
Thanks in advance
Dred

Thank you will do - Wasnt paying attention. Just frantically trying to get my phone back.
How do you install an RUU? I only have the red triangle with an exclamation mark if I start my recovery up.
I have tried 2 diff pcs now to no avail.
TIA
Did you S-Off? To check you can just hold VolumeDown when powering on the phone, if it says Alpharev ... S-OFF then you are fine. You can try to use this fastboot commander http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823315 to flash back a custom recovery an then do everything from there (careful: don't flash anyting else as long as you are not sure what you are doing. Especially don't flash a hboot...).
If you don't have S-Off get this RUU http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
Make sure the HTC Sync stuff is installed on your Windows PC (the drivers are needed). Power on the phone and connect it to the pc.
Run The RUU...exe and follow the instructions. If it does not work you need a goldcard:

I have flashed loads and loads of Roms and this is the first that caused me agg and as we are having a baby I was worried about not having my phone - doh.
It appears that all I needed to do was clear some data. I was sure I tried this but maybe I was panicking too much.
Still no RUU stuff was even realising the phone was there. So Goldcard it would have been.
Thanks for all your help

[Q] FOR ATTENTION OF: DROIDZONE (and anyone else!)

A few weeks ago you posted a guide on one of my threads about how to reflash my Desire using a goldcard which worked great for me and I was able to reflash and reroot my Desire - I only followed your guide up to and including Step 2. as once I had a working phone again I wan't too bothered about the additional steps to take it back to stock ROM.
Since flashing a custom ROM (LeeDroid 2.3d) and a LOT of apps on a 16gb MicroSD card, the phone worked fine. However, over the last few days it started randomly rebooting and has gotten progressively worse.
I decided to reflash back to stock again using your guide (post #14 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892064&page=2).
The process completes but there is an error on one of the steps (step 6). After the reflash the screen shows the following :-
[1] BOOTLOADER - OK
[2] RADIO_V2 - OK
[3] RADIO_CUST - OK
[4] BOOT - OK
[5] RECOVERY - OK
[6] SYSTEM - Fail-PU
[7] USERDATA - OK
[8] SPLASH1 - OK
[9] SPLASH2 - OK
Partition update fail!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
Presumably, the PU in 'Fail-PU' means Partition update. The only thing is, I am flashing the PB99IMG.zip file from a goldcard as per the Droidzone guide - there is no partition on the goldcard.
Do you (or anyone else reading this) have any idea why it might be failing at step 6? The phone does actually boot up after the reflash but HTC Sense just goes into a repeated 'Force Close' loop. Is there a different ROM image I can try when using your process with the goldcard?
Since the reflash process does complete and the phone boots up (albiet with the HTC Sense 'force close' issue) I'm guessing it shouldn't be too difficult an issue to solve...I just need to know how to solve it.
I have downloaded the PB99IMG.zip file again just in case the original was corrupt, but I got the same result.
Any help or guidance you or anyone else can give is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

your best bet would be to use an exe file like this and see if that helps. Ensure that you are on a computer on which HTC sync / other android drivers have never been used before:

is my desire dead?
I've tried to reflash my Desire several times using Droidzone's guide over the last few days. Each time I was getting the Fail-PU message at when it was trying to install the System (step 6).
However, today things took a turn for the worse...I tried reflashing using the using the .exe file via fastboot. It appeared to be working until the end when it reported a fail and dropped into the HTC rom boot screen (black with 'htc' in big letters in the middle of the screen) with a small white triangle and exclamation mark in each corner of the screen.
No matter what I try I can get to the recovery screen.
Can anyone please help????
Please don't bump threads, they'll get answered as and when someone has time

Try this:
press vol up and power and you get a small menu where you can delete recovery.img (assuming you're rooted).
Then install a RUU

Thanks Celestialspring, but that didn't work because after following Droidzone's original guide (to step 2) the phone isn't rooted. The only screen I can get is the black screen with with the HTC lettered logo in the middle and a triangled exclamation in each corner. The phone will recognise RUU exe's via USB from this screen, but non of the RUUs work.
Hoping you might have some other ideas.
Will I be able to do anything via ADB (not that I've used it, but willing to try just about anything now)? I've also got a goldcard, not that I can get into recovery to use it.
By the way, sorry about the duplicate post, but I don't know how to edit the original title of the thread.

I've tried the unlockr method. The RUU shows the current image version on the phone as 2.29.405.2. The RUU exe I've tried to flash is the original T-Mobile stock (RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe). This appears to complete the first 4 stages of a ROM flash but then reports an error at the 'Sending' stage - ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR.
I've also tried the above with what I believe to be the latest non branded stock rom (RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe) - 2.29.405.5 obviously being newer than 2.29.405.2 which RUU reports as being already on the phone. This time I get ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR.
I then tried the Modaco steps (your second link). This time, the RUU process went through all the steps but at the end brought up ERROR [152]: IMAGE UPDATE ERROR. This time though, the RU utility gives the option to start a 'Recover' process. There are 4 steps to the Recover process.
There is a ReadMe file available when I get error 152 which states:
4. Q: During the update, the progress bar is moving. If the error message (ERROR [150], [151]…[159]) appears, what should I do?
A: This may occur when the connection is lost, power is lost, the computer host is down, or due to other unexpected reasons. You will see some information on the Android phone’s screen. If the progress bar is moving, it means the update is processing, and your Android phone will reboot automatically and the update is successful. If your Android phone's screen shows exclamation marks in four corners, it means the update has failed. The Android phone will not be able to go into the Android screen. This problem usually can be recovered. You need to follow the instructions in the error message box, which is to reset the Android Phone and run the RUU again.
This seems to indicate the problem is to do with the connection between the phone and the PC. So I'm goning to perservere.
I have a couple of things still to try but am off to the football, I will update you later after I've tried these other things (including a different USB cable)
In the meantime, if you have any other suggestions I'd be happy to hear them. (I did look at the link in your post #14, but it refers to SLCD screens and mine is AMOLED, so reluctant to try that yet).
Thanks for the help, advice and tips so far,
Rich

Haven't tried a different PC yet. Have tried a different USB cable on the same PC as I've been using up to now, but that didn't work.
Will try a different PC tonight, though I don't really understand how that would work as the drivers, USB cable and ROM image will still be the same. Still going to give it a go though...at this stage I'll try just about anything.
If you've heard of any other fixes, then I'd love to hear them.
By the way, I tried the vol up and power button combo, but it didn't do anything. The only combo I know is vol down and power to bring up recovery menu. With black recovery screen with exclamation mark in each corner, none of the key combos do anything.
[UPDATE] Tried a different PC and, as I suspected, it didn't work
Rich
I think I've exhausted all options
After trying all of the hints and tips I've been given so far and a few I've found myself, I ve come to the conclusion the only way to fix the phone will be with a newer version of the ROM already installed (though I've tried one and that didn't work) or wait for an official T-mobile Gingerbread release (though I'm not sure they will do that).
It's all really annoying when all I really wanted to root for was to enable more storage on my phone - let's face it the storage space for apps on stock android phones is pathetic! If the manufacturers actually gave more storage for apps then I wouln'd feel the need to root.
Anyway, if anyone still has any (reasonable) suggestions after all of this then I'm still happy to hear them.
sorry mate, thats all I have for you.

Cheers anyway CelestialSpring. I might wait to see if Doridzone resurfaces with any other suggestions (I've emailed him a few days ago, but no reply).
Failing that I might have to bite the bullet and send it to HTC for a (paid for,due to void warranty) fix.

[Q] Please help me to escape from brick! Is this a H/W error or S/W error?

First, Sorry for my poor English, and thank you for reading this.
Please help me to escape from bricked phone!
At this point of time, I cannot determine the symptom wheter H/W related or S/W.
At HTC service center, they refuse to repair my DHD unless I restore bootscreen & S-off. However, my DHD is almost bricked (now stuck in first HTC logo) so I couldn't follow most of kindful guides in here.
Please let me determine the symptom, then I can give up if the problem is H/W related (and should pay almost $200 for fee), or I can continue to study in the case of S/W related problem.(Also I need some hints from you for finding solutions..)
Here are follow-up measures history.
Status of DHD at the accident
As-is Froyo
Rooted
S-OFF (eng off?)
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.5 installed
No more tuning except Camera and bootscreen.
Never applied OTA (in Korea, not yet released)

Please help me to determine the problem!
Is it H/W related error?
If then, maybe no one can be fix my DHD except HTC service man.
Is it S/W related error?
If then, here are two questions.
Why "Error while formatting /system" occurs?
Can this be fixed without entering android UI?
(Becasue I can't enter..)
Or
Modified screen and S-off can be restored without entering android UI?
(Becasue I can't enter..) If done, service man will replace M/B.
Thank you for reading this long thread!
Hi,
Your English is perfectly understandable.
Firstly, did you try to partition your SDcard using ROM Manager or ClockworkMod recovery before all this occurred?
Ok, turn your phone off and head into the bootloader, then into fastboot.
Ensure you have the Android SDK installed as you need fastboot.exe
Plug in your phone to your PC and watch your phone's screen, FASTBOOT should now say FASTBOOT USB.
Open command prompt, and cd into your SDK\tools folder.
Now execute
Code:
fastboot devices
It should return
Code:
[B]HT~string of text~[/B]
Now download the PD98IMG.zip from THIS post.
Once downloaded. Unzip the archive to any folder. Open this folder and copy system.img, boot.img, data.img to your SDK\tools folder.
Now execute
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash data data.img
Wait for each one to complete before progressing to the next.
Now reboot your phone.
Hiya
I have exactly the same problem as the OP. While running the above fastboot commands on system.img i get the error FAILED <Remote:data length is too large>
I have tried flashing system, boot and userdata from a nandroid backup i have, which have all successfully flashed, but the phone still will not boot past the HTC screen
might sound daft, but have you considered reflashing with an RRU to see if that fix's your issue? once its up & running just re-root.

My phone wont recognise the SD card, i have tried to flash a new rom by pushing it to /cache/ and pushing a command.txt file to /cache/recovery containing the command --update_package=CACHE:romname.zip, then rebooting into recovery, as i believe the phone should then unpack the rom and install it?
Needless to say it hasnt worked.

Tell him you will do that, if he can prove the software is under warranty, otherwise tell him to sod off.
So, if the RUU can't install, it is hardware related, and they should fix that regardless of the software if the phone is still under warranty (which it will be).
Thank you for your kindful response, andyharney.
Before start to follow your solution, I felt that I need to extend my understanding on android becasue I'm just a newbie and not developer. Therefore, I have some questions about the solution.
I would appreciate it if you could give answers.

I heard that action above can cause some problems reading SD card. Dose my symptom related to SD card? I check my DHD couldn't boot even without SD card.

1. Can I use original as-is image I wrote instead of that you recommanded? (Carrier is KT in Korea.) Why I have to downgrade? (I cannot understand version 1.7 or 1.3. What do they indicating?)
Or
2. Version change due to downgrade can be reversible? I'm very afraid of loss of warranty. I heard that Radio-OFF(I don't know well) is unreversible.
If you have the correct ROM/RUU for your carrier use that, otherwise the PD98IMG.zip I kinked to will have to do.
As you have already tried the PD98IMG.zip on its own to no avail, you have very few options remaining. One is to flash each component separately via fastboot.
You cannot restore S-ON unless your phone boots normally, which at the minute, doesn't

forget to downgrade nothing now okay.? downgrade its for another thing... andy was sent to you the link for take the pd98img.zip fine nothing more...
remember:
-you need to have sdk installed and drivers of htc sync.
-put your device in fastboot mode
-need the pd98img.zip for restore the rom (concretly 1.32xxx (then you can flash another rom)or
-you can flash your carrier official rom

Did you do a full wipe (system, data, and cache) before flashing? Are you S-Off with AAHK or S-On with unlocked bootloader?

Yes, i did a full wipe before flashing...
I cant see if i´m S-ON or Off because i can´t go to the original boot menu, but i think its S-Off because the Rom that was in the phone before i messed with it was not the original

An unlocked bootloader with S-On still permits flashing of custom ROMs. Is your recovery updated? If not, do that.

The guide in post #7 of the guide in my signature is pretty clear. Read that. What is important to know is whether your phone is S-On bootloader unlocked or S-Off. Since you didn't hang on the boot splash when you flashed ARHD, I'm guessing S-Off. But just to be safe: to find this information, reboot while holding power and volume-down. That is your bootloader, known as hboot. What does it say? Finally, my hunch is that you need to update your recovery. The guide has instructions for that, but basically, download the image to your computer and flash it from fastboot.
Oh, and you may need to install your drivers on your computer. Install HTC Sync from the HTC website.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824379. But if power and volume-down (you're using down, not up, right?) boot into CWM, sounds like a problem with your volume buttons.

When you're tired, it's best to get some sleep. Most mistakes happen when sleepy and tired (been there!) so I'd suggest a little shut-eye and continue then
Sounds to me like the problem will get solved pretty soon, just read the guides and don't rush things. If unsure, read the guide (for what-ever you are doing) a second or a third time and don't try doing many things at the same time (ie.don't try updating your radio, rom, & recovery all at the same time ).
Pretty much anything can be fixed as long as you got recovery working so don't stress too much. Best of luck and hope you get your phone working soon :good:
Still havn´t found a solution for my problem, but i think i´m on to something....
I think the problem with my phone is the boot.img.... i can´t flash it correctly...
Dont know what program to use or what file to download.... i tried openning a command list but i and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as i´ve seen on other posts but i always get "this is not known as an internal or external command, etc...."
What can i doooooooooooooo?!!!! going crazy with this
Hey buddy, stay calm haha. I had the exact same problem. The problem is that although you tried to flash it, you nee to have the boot.img and some files including fastboot.exe. All of the files you need and how to flash the rom are in a guide by glevitan. You can just google it.

already did but it wont recognize the command
Then your drivers aren't working. Uninstall and reinstall with the phone unplugged.
