I've been searching every couple days since the phone was released only to find the shields, glare protectors, and skins... Finally they have the low cost cases that many users have come to love...
Judging by the looks on some, I'm not saying they are grade A, but having bought some for past phones, they are comparable to some of the $30 cases sold at some retailers

This is the same case (and seller) I have except mine is black. It looks, works, and feels great... Though it is a little hard to take off once it's on.

whats that case material called thats like not the rubbery silicone, but not a hard case? Its like a soft plastic that doesn't have a rubber texture.

if the material you're describing is what I'm imagining (and as counter-intuitive as it sounds) it's rubberized crystal cases. (like the one in the first link)
it doesn't feel "rubbery", it feels smooth and soft-textured. nothing at all like the rubber you'd find on a shoe or tire.

I believe you are thinking of TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethanes)? It's generally a material that is flexible but very smooth, and usually translucent.
Unfortunately I don't think there are any TPU cases yet for Captivate, but I think they are coming (they have them for the standard Galaxy S / Vibrant), but that's what I am waiting for as well.

Per Wikipedia, they have several trade names (but seems mostly from Pharma)
ELASTOLLAN (BASF & Elastogran)
PEARLTHANE (Merquinsa)
DESMOPAN (Bayer)
PELLETHANE (Dow Chemical) Sold to Lubrizol.
ESTANE (Lubrizol)
IROGRAN (Huntsman)
But in terms of cases, the only trade name I know of is that I believe Amzer calls their line of TPU cases "Luxe." Other places usually refer to the cases either as TPU or "Flexi Skin."
I'm personally waiting on the "Luxe" line from Amzer to be released at the end of the month for the Captivate.

I got the black version of this case and I'd say it's by far more attractive and more protective than the overpriced crap they have at the AT&T store.
I attached some pictures. Yeah, I rigged up a cradle for the phone out of some large zip-ties, and I must say, it works great. Don't be dissin'!
Yep, that's exactly the same one I have. The one thing I would say to notice about this is, that without a screen protector, and if you keep it in your pocket... this case just seems to be a "force dirt to collect in certain places" device. (Keep it in your pocket for a day or two and then take it off and see how much dirt is chilling out under your case)

Thats the one I want as well. Mainly cuz its got some cushion like the silicone ones but doesn't stick in your pocket like the silicone ones...
Only problem I have with it is the pattern on it. Its a nice pattern, but coming from the world of bberry, its been done and over done. I feel it might look a little busy with the translucency/being able to see all the original case detail under it.

I am using the Taurus Version, and Yellow. Love it.
The contour of the case and and design, fits like a GLOVE!!

Do these things actually protect well? I feel like the impact would be transferred to the device more so than a TPU/silicone case. Sure they look nice, but I don't feel like they are practical.

When I got it, it was installed by a friend of mine, the in between the case and phone, have a silicone cushion build on the case. The phone do budge or move at all.
I guess the silicone cushion is made for shock absorption.
The Taurus looks nice but damn if they make that sweet one in Gunmetal gray I'm getting it!

Something like Taurus isnt a full case but a bumper.
The battery cover isnt covered by metal, so it wont heat at all.

kinda like that But you shouldnt drop your phone anyway. Its better to break a 20-30$ bumper than a 600$ phone
I have a taurus one at the moment, if I drop it and it break, ill just go with a walnut one. Im using it because it fit with the 3200-3500mA battery. If I could get an otterbox for extended battery I would, but they wont make one

Interesting the Aluminum case and TPU alike look rather well on the device! BUT I have never used a bumper, only TPU cases; so does anyone know if this would supply sufficient protection from drop damage? I imagine the Aluminum would make the phone more susceptible to cracked screens from a drop but IDK. Thanks and subbed.
Very interesting.. going to purchase a set as well of the TPU ones and see how that is. I'm still loving the Diztronic, but it's starting to lift up my screen protector in two of the corners and it's becoming slightly annoying having to lift up the lip of the case and push the protector back down.

Probably just as well as the TPU ones.. And the TPU ones wont scratch your case up.. that's what I would be worried about with the Aluminum one.

The problem is that I have honestly never used a bumper. I had a TPU case for my
S2 but I never dropped it *knocks on wood* so idk how well bumpers protect from fall damage.

I would think it would provide as must fall protection as a Tpu case of equal thickness and I know for the 3 weeks I had an iPhone the bumper on it seemed to work well

I would expect to see the Poetic Borderline from Poetic. They had it for the N4.

hmm thats certainly a much more attractive option.
is the back just clear plastic though? why is the upper right one larger, there's a microphone there isnt there?
the only things that put me off getting a case is that a) the device gets bigger and b) it no longer fits into docks etc.
Case is completely clear except for the sides. And great the hole on the top right is bigger because if the Mic. As far as adding bulk, the case not as thick as you might think. I've seen these cases on the iPhone and it looks really good. I like the fact that its clear and the look of the phone is retained. Personally I just use a case when I'm not home or at work.

first impressions from those who have them are bad - shame really as I am getting one for free and the stand aspect is really nice.
ill be going with my usual very low profile case w/ screen protector combo and then after maybe 6 months take the case off!

The flip case will serve a purpose but I wouldn't have it for everyday use, its basically thick card with microfibre lining.

It's anything but clear in the photos that I've seen. On most phones bumpers certainly will protect the phone if it's dropped on its back, but most phones don't have anywhere near as much curvature on the back of the case as the One has - a bumper would have to stick out a long way at the edge in order to protect the middle.

I was seeing the Incipio Products Like Feather, Frequency And Carbon Fiber , also the Htc One Original Cases .Plus would be nice to buy these alluminiun cases??? What you would suggest me to buy. funny, on this link, with the phone in the case, it looks like there are cut-outs for the camera (and the noise cancellation mic), but there is on picture of the entire case without the phone in it, and there appears to be no cutouts for the camera. I would imagine that there ARE cutouts for the camera, no?

Yes, there are two cutouts on the back: one for the camera/flash and another for the mic. You're right though, the pics are misleading. I had seen this case in the wild before I bought it so I knew what I was getting. Also for that price you can't really go wrong.

Just tried a skin and bumper combo. Best compromise between protection and looks IMO. Nothing will top an otterbox for protection, but makes phone very bulky and it overheats too easily when using navigation.

this one I got a few weeks back, and it is the best case I could imagine for the One! Protection all around, wrapping over the edgres where the screen is. All buttons covered solid, and these covers help to push the Power/Vol buttoms. I can only say, I am totally happy with this case! A bit pricey, but worth every penny. Gives the One a real trendy look, and is available in different colours- I got the black/black one

I had this case and I don't know if anyone else had this problem but whenever I took a picture with the flash there was a tinge around the picture from the silicone of the case.
