[Q] G2 car/home dock? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was really hoping they'd come out with a car dock for the G2, similar to the N1. But they haven't. I know that the G2 doesn't have contacts along the side for this functionality, but I was thinking that the USB Micro's extra pin could be used to detect a dock. Does anyone know if there is an API call to read the pin or do an A/D on this pin or anything? I know this is how Motorola detected if their phones were connected to one of their chargers or not, so this isn't new or anything. Other manufacturers have done this also, but the hardware has to support it.

Interested in an official desktop dock and also an official car dock.
Anyone know if one is in the works for the DesireZ/G2? I have both for the NexusOne and its the only real thing that I'm missing since I got a DesireZ/G2

Motorola uses a magnet sensor in the back of the phone to tell if it is docked. Whether the dock is car or home is based on the polarity of the magnet.
Here's a post I just made in the accessories form about how I use a droid X car dock.

I agree, not nearly as elegant as the nexus one car dock, but it's a solution. Who knows if they will ever make a nice dock for the G2.

[Q] windshield car docks

all of the car docks i have seen for non idevices have very short windshield mounts. are there any windshield car docks that have extensions to get them at least 4 inches long?
and if there aren't any, what tools would i need to use to modify a car dock from griffin that was made for the idevices?
How's this? I don't see any specs but it looks maybe about 4" judging from the scale of the screen size of the phone

same thing cheaper here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875998631
Has anyone gotten the audio out functionality of the Samsung car dock working? It has a sticker over it stating that audio out will be enabled when 2.2 is released, but I was hoping some of the other 2.2 releases would have support for it now.
I have the oem car dock. Running nero v3 and I can't get it to work either. I can't understand what is missing from the custom 2.2 roms that wont allow this to work. It should be similar code that the tv out uses. Because the audio comes out of the mini usb port with the tv output also right?

Audio and video work with the TV out functionality when using a micro headphone jack to RCA cable. I tried it with a headphone jack to video/audio output cable that came with a old camcorder. Are you talking about a TV out cable that plugs into the micro-USB port, if so I have never seen one like that.
I have a ~$10 Chinese ebay car dock, and it works perfectly. Ive used it in a vw jetta, toyota sequoia, and a merc e350. no problems. I have an aux in wired to the phone, and power as well via a car charger. audio comes through speakers, and nero v4 has phone calls come through speakers too, and the phone is close enough that people can hear me even if a window is down.
will psot pics later if you want them

I bought the samsung car dock, and i can say that its pretty kick ass. Although its a little frustrating that the audio does not yet work for it, it still is a nice piece to have.
Unfortunately it does'nt seem like any devs have been looking into this. Perhaps its just not very popular yet, but Im keeping my figers crossed that sooner than later it will be sorted out. either by our great developers, or just the release of official 2.2

You could look into a Bracketron custom vehicle mount. It screws into your dashboard so you can add a more permenant mout. I bought one from Quadratec for my Jeep when I bought my G1. It is awesome!

Nexus One type dock?

Okay ive never had the Nexus S but I've had the Nexus One before and hands down, I loved that phone besides the annoying multitouch issue. But what I also liked was the dock that you simple slide the phone in portrait mode and the pin connectors from the phone and dock will connect, charging the phone. Anyone think the GNex will get something similar? I have seen how the pins have been used so far besides this car dock that I seen on the accessory sub forums. A Nexus One charging style dock would be good
You would be happy to know that the Galaxy Nexus has its own multitouch problem so it will seem even that much more familiar.
That being said they have announced the dock you are looking for but have not yet released it.
I got this dock from ebay, $15 including shipping. Fits perfectly.
Only thing is, I though it was going to switch into a desk clock or something when it was docked. Nothing happens, screen just switches off after the usual delay. Maybe a "proper" dock using the metal-edge connectors are needed for this functionality. Anyone knows?

Xoom Speaker dock for Xoom2

Hi
Does anyone know whether the Xoom Speaker Dock is compatible with the Xoom2?
Cheers
Matthew
It is not.
The ports will fit.
I tried it on my unaltered "standard" xoom dock. There isn't power to the usb jack though so it wont charge. I also got a pop-up message that said "this dock is incompatible with your device".
I tried my HD Dock for my OG Xoom, It didn't even register that I had placed it on a dock with this one like it did with the standard dock. So that means no app auto-launch and the speakers do not work with the Xyboard on HD Speaker Dock.

DIY Car mount + Question about pogo pins

Hi,
Has anyone seen this?
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=16992427&postcount=2
It seems pretty easy and do-able. I don't own a Galaxy Nexus but I plan to get one soon. My biggest issue with the phone is the utter lack of car docks available (especially in Canada)... So this is my backup and I'll probably end up making one of these.
Now my question: I'm not particularly experienced with wiring and stuff, but I'm capable of doing the work. Would anyone have any ideas to incorporate the pogo pins neatly into something like this?
I haven't seen any tutorials so far, but I read you'd need some kind of microcontroller?
Thanks.
Either way, this is a pretty smart solution for a car mount.
Why not just buy a Universal Car Mount For a cell phone?
Ebay is full of them.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-C...054495?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item5ae18b399f
Because they're big and atrocious looking. To me this is a more elegant solution that 's easy enough to do. I was just sharing it, and wondering about the possibilities of wiring for the pogo pins.
This post may help
Also this tells you which is + and which is ground, also provides some ideas for implementation.
This thread documents the ongoing development of a pogo pin dock.
Why not just buy a NFC sticker which you put on the dock, then it can trigger what actions you want when you dock it. Unless you are trying to skip plugging in a power cord.

And:
enable the offical car/desk dock mode built into the phone.
enable AC charging without using a custom kernel
not need any software installed to make it work "right"
Personally, once the micro-controller is figured out, I'm going to mode my otterbox commuter and SlipGrip car mount into a powered dock.

Using the HTC CarKit with a case?!

Hey folks, I was wondering if there is a case for the One that's slim enough to use it with the original HTC One CarKit. I'm using one from yayago which is called slim... But unfortunately not slim enough :-/.
I hate to have to choose between the use of the CarKit and the protection of my phone.... And I really don't want to put this beautiful phone in a sort of sock!
Any suggestions?!

I wanted the htc one car kit as well because I was spoiled by the pogo pin dock for my Galaxy Nexus. After several unfortunate accidents with my GNEX I have decided to keep my One in a thin silicone case (a blue one from Verizon store to match my Best Buy blue HTC One). I found a non-oem car cradle that will work with or without a case (no more than 1.6mm thick) and is easy to insert and remove phone. It is by encased. The car dock will put the phone into car mode when the charger is plugged in. The only disappointment was to discover that you had to plug a short "pigtail" micro-usb cable attached to the dock into the phone. You couldn't just slide the phone in and make the connection. I felt the product description was a little misleading. I bought in on Amazon for $25 which felt like a steal compared to most oem cradles. I cannot post links yet but it is called the HTC One M7 Car Mount Dock With Built In Car Charger - Windshield & Dashboard.
You guys should check out I-magnet. Ive used it w a phone as big as a note 2 and currently use it w my htc one. Works great w super easy on/off
