Is it possible to use Bluetooth voice daling? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to use Bluetooth voice daling? I can't find how to do this.. Does anyone know how?

Use choice dialer, there are free and paid versions. May require a reboot before use.

Does that app use the voice recognizing software of google? Or does each app has its own?

All I know is it works wonders. It does pronounce the names of my friends like the google one does, though, so it may just be using Google's recognition.

I've installed the app, but the button on my bluetooth headset is still not working.. Using the search button on my phone does work, but touching your phone is illigal while driving in the Netherlands.
Is there a way to use the buton on my headset to start voice dailing?
ps: I'm really disapointed that this feature isnt part of the stock software. It's a big miss on such a high-end phone!

I have to agree, however the app is working for me on a Jabra bt handfree, out of curiosity have you rebooted the phone after installation?
Regards
Flashmore

I did a fast reboot and that didnt help. After you message I did a battery pull and now choice dialer works just like you sad.
Just too bad that this app has a hard time understanding all my Dutch names.. This solution is far from perfect to me, but thank for you help anyway!!
I really don't get why the original voice recognition software is only used to search google Why would anyone want to use google hands-free? You will have to use your fingers immediately after the search anyway.
When designing a phone, I think your main focus should be on making a perfect phone, after this you can add loads of extra's which hardly anyone is ever going to use!

I'm still searching for a way to use the build-in voice recognision to make calls with bluetooth..
Anyone??

Hi,
I'm interested too with this feature.
Idool, did you find a solution ?

No, sadly I did not.. I'm still hoping to find a solution. Are you looking for a dutch version as well?

No, i'm French.
I found "Cyberon Voice Commander", the 3.0 release works on Android plateform and it's multilanguage (i didn't find Dutch). But there is no trial, you must pay 5€
http://www.cyberon.com.tw/download.php?SNO2=4&SNO3=

Probably possible with Windows 7.

Yes, but that won't help us...
If you're trying to say that voice dialling should be a stock feature on a cellphone, than I totally agree. Especially such a hi-end device!!

It is with Froyo and Nexus devices, the APK is called "Voice Dialer" : http://www.mediafire.com/?912je0f8fta72b2
But does not work with our DHD, or maybe in puting in the rom before flashing it (with rom cleaner tool for exemple, i did not try yet)

I don't use bluetooth headsets currently however I do use a program called Vlingo which is very good at recognising voice, their description also say it works with bluetooth:
Vlingo InCar offers (Part of the Vlingo app):
* Voice-driven, hands free initiation – Vlingo enters listening mode upon Bluetooth® connectivity
* Voice driven, hands free initiation using a “wake up word”
* Conversational user guidance instead of a touch screen
* Ability to send and respond to messages, make calls and get directions using only voice commands
It can be downloaded free from the market and for mee the voice recognition seems to be far more accurate when compared to Google Voice.

Does it work in French ?

Did you try cyberon voice commander?
Edit: i tryed cyberon voice commander and vlingo and i use only vlingo now. It's great app, absolutely handsfree for voice dialing with bluetooth hf.

Does Vlingo work with the bt headset button? Voice Search doesn't seem to work, since I've tried it.

Android 2.2 Bluetooth Voice Dialing on Desire?

Bluetooth Voice Dialing is in the Froyo feature set.
I can't see this feature anywhere on the Desire after the 2.2 update. Anyone else?
I can't find it either...
really really annoyed about this!! when i bought the phone it was something I really needed! Was told it would be on the phone with 2.2 in a couple of months but now nothing!!! Grrrr!!!
I read somewhere that you can use the voice search do dial someone, and it actually works, but there are two problems:
1) Since the main objective of voice search is to search using google, you need to be on wireless or 3G to start using voice search, even if you don't want to use google at all. So if you don't leave your 3G active all the time, you'll have to activate it before launching voice search.
2) You can't launch voice search by pressing the action button on the bluetooth headset, so you still have to pull the phone out of the pocket to activate it and then give the command.
Those two problems pretty much makes voice search unusable as a replacement to a dedicated voice dialing dialog, because you always have to take the phone out of pocket and interact a lot with it to finally call someone. It's easier to just tap your contact's shortcut to call it.
It was in the leaked ROM that was floating around a couple of weeks ago too! My guess this will be coming in another update around the time that HTC release their car dock. Bloody gits.
in the prerelease 2.2 (LeeDroid) I am using if I press the talk button on the steering wheel it requests a voice command and then searches for whoever you said "call". But it its true that 3G MUST be activated.
Can anyone recommend a 2.2 ROM with HTC sense that has this feature? Is it a good idea for me to reflash do you think?
This was the one thing i was waiting for with the froyo release and it appears to be missing.
Im not seriously considering rooting my phone just to get this feature.
Can anybody recommend me a rom with this feature enabled?
I'm in the same boat, wasn't really bothered about rooting but now it looks like I'm going to have to!
I've emailed HTC on their support page, does anyone think I'm going to get a response?

HTC replied to me saying "we can decide what parts of the system are used and which are not".
Removing this from the release is ridiculous. It's so common now for use of hands-free kits to be compulsory, if not the only legal option.
It was my main reason to debrand and upgrade, only to find that it's been omitted.
Maybe some kind soul can manage to knock up an APK from a release where it was included (fingers crossed)
Well here's the response from HTC!
Not good really!
Hi Dave, Voice to text is only available in North America due to the limitations of the voice recognition software database that our phone uses. We are researching the possibility of expanding the coverage of the Voice-To-Text feature but we are still analyzing
the feasibility and currently have no schedule to relay this to you now. We have your contact information on our system and will contact you when we have a solution. Kind regards, Tom HTC

Don't tell me that HTC is not going to include this feature in Froyo! I bought my desire AFTER the announcement of Bluetooth voice dialing, and I thought I could wait for this to come in 2.2 update, and now they say they won't include it???? Are they crazy enough to omit one of the main features in Froyo??? What on earth are they thinking?!?!
Correct - they are NOT going to include it in Froyo 2.2
I have the official HTC version of Froyo that doesn't have it, and am rather upset as i would have rooted my phone to get this feature, but I was under the impression I didn't have to.
Now that I've updated to HTC's version not only do I still not have Bluetooth voice dialing, but I also don't have the option to root my phone anymore to get it.
Nice to see that they spent time on real things like a new android graphic, the way the lock displays and other useless but blingy stuff instead of items that were lacking that almost every other phone on the market has for granted.

If voice to text doesn't work, how does Google Voice search operate?
This is complete arse.
I thought that in the announcement Google said they were expanding it to work with different accents and languages?

I tried it a few days ago and thought it was terrible.
I've tried it and seems to work well, I've emailed the dev as well about the last comment but he said it uses the in built speech to text library so it will be as good / bad as any other android dialer
Hope that helps!

[Q] Voice instructions google navigation

Hi there,
Does anybody know how to activate voice instructions using the Google navigation app? I tried today, it navigates good, but I get no voice instructions. Volume was set to max. I can't seem to find settings for voice navigation anywhere in the app.
Couldn't find an answer searching this great forum.
Thank you.

does google support VOICE NAVIGATION in your country???? it doesn't support VOICE NAVIGATION in many countries like mine, India, its useful for basic ROUTING function.
or you can use the Locations App from your DHD with Premium navigation license (has to be purchased), that'll provide you voice navigation.
hope that answers your query.
I have used it before but not with the navigation app
Yes, google does support voice guidance in the Netherlands. However I can't seem to set it anywhere. Navigation volume was set to max. I really wan't it to work, because further it works amazing. Have already latest version of google maps. Also tried to empty the cache which didn't help either...
Ok I now discovered that the voice only works when my phone is not connected to my radio via bluetooth, very strange! I would still like to receive calls while navigating..

[Q] Speed calling with bluetooth

I have bluetooth Jabra Clipper paired for phone (and media) audio. When I start a call using the BT device the phone starts the phone app and dials the last called number automatically. This is not what I want. I bought Cyberon Speed Call and I would like to associate the 'start call' command with this app so I can choose who to call. SO when I start a call using BT the Cyberon app should start and not the phone app. I have been using Cyberon on my windows mobile for a long time and there is works like this. Anyone knows how to associate (if that's the correct term) an app with the start call command via bluetooth?
Don't think it works that way. You need the phone app in order to do anything call related. If it doesn't give you an option to make a default for the app you want to use then I don't think you are going to have much luck.

Thanks, but I think I didn't make myself clear enough: the situation now is that when I press the button on my BT device the phone app starts calling the last dialed number. What I want ( and what should be possible according to the manufacturer of the app) is that when I press the button on my BT device the Cyberon Speed Dial app should start, wait for me to say the name of the person I want to call (in non-English pronunciation) and THEN start the phone app calling the person I just named. It works when I start the Cyberon app manually, I just can't get the BT device to start Cyberon instead of the phone app.

using headset with voice search

Hello,
First android phone here. Loving the voice search for sending texts, setting alarms, etc. Is there a way I can make it work with a bluetooth headset? I can't even get regular voice dial to work.
I am sure there are 3rd party apps that will work, but I really like the one from Google, it works _so_ much better than all the 3rd party ones I tried on my iPHone, and I like it's simplicity.
The voice dial button on Jawbone doesn't work. I even tried installing Jawbone companion software. If I launch the voice search app and speak into headset, it is still trying to pick up voice from the phone mic.
It is a stock international if that matters. (so bizarre they didn't just come up with a new model to differentiate the NA and Int'l versions).
THanks,
~S
i've been trying to follow this issue from april, when i received my one x (int'l, stock, taiwan manufacture, seems to be uk version). no joy yet. i did read in passing in one thread that htc is supposedly aware there is an issue with blue tooth voice dialing (and presumably search) and has said it is working on it. but i'm not holding my breath.
I'm glad it's not just me!
I just bought the HTC hands free kit (CAR V100) and it's advertised a having voice dialling/voice command as well as announcing callers names.
Buggered if I can get either to work.

Been trying to solve it since with SGS1, SGS2, now with HOX. Guess I need to write my own app. All I was able to find out was this app:
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=cyberon&c=apps (look for cyberon in play store)
works quite nice but only with its own commands, still no option to use google voice search via BT.
Does anyone know if this is working on any of the custom ROM's?

[Q] Use bluetooth device as microphone when S3 is connected to it

I just recently bought a bluetooth device for my S3 to use while driving. My original intent was not to just use it for phone calls, but also use it for voice commands. I frequently want to make use of in-app voice searches while driving (for example, use the voice search in player pro to find a song), but since I dock my phone close to my radio, the s3 microphone has a hard time picking up my voice commands. I thought the bluetooth device would act as my microphone when an app requests a voice command, but apparently that's not the case. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!
This has been the case since frito with voice search /actions. I'd like to find a patch or fix for this as well..

I also asked on another forum and someone recommended the app "SoundAbout" It doesn't have the voice search command functionality yet, but I've been communicating with the developer and he sent me a version that worked with voice commands; unfortunately, it also broke the ability to use bluetooth with phone calls. So it's possible, but there are a few kinks to work out. I'd check that app out because he may be releasing a new version soon.
