More rows and columns in sense - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using launcher pro and adw for awhile and really like the ability to do 5x5 on the home screens.
When skyraider went to 5x4 I was excited to see that then he reverted back.
Why hasn't anyone tried to do a 5x5 sense and lower the lcd density in the buildprop to use the space better on our phones?
The 4x4 with giant icons keeps me from using sense for too long. My gf has an eris and she picked my phone up the other day and said my icons looked like they were magnified like the calculators for senior citizens.

I use the stock sense rom and run a widget called multi icon. This allows me to put 4 icons in a single icon location. My main homescreen is packed with icons now.

another app you may want to look at is "Launch X Pro". if you make the backgrounds for the widgets transparent it'll just look like smaller icons with more per screen. it'll allow you to do up to 7 icons per row.

[Q] What is Rosie? Is it just a theme?

Sorry, newb question. What does Rosie mean and why would I want to try different versions? Droid INc, SR 3.3.2, 2.15 radio, stock kernel. I've looked at screenshots of different rosie versions, but it just looks like minor appearance and launcher changes. Isn't that sort of what I get with a new rom anyhow?
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the launcher that appears at the bottom of the screen, above the home/menu/back/search buttons - opinions vary on her extent, but nominally that's who she is.
So then what's the big deal with Rosie if launcher pro makes that so easy?

If you modify Rosie, you can tweak the default Sense launcher to look the way you want, AND stilll have access to the HTC widgets.

I guess I'm still confused, as you can still change the launcher and still have access to htc widgets without modifying rosie. Is it a theme? Is is a full Sense UI replacement? I'm just not grasping it.
From all I've gathered through this community, Rosie is like a theme on steroids - HTC uses it as a key piece of branding across nearly all their devices. In addition to being the main user interface in terms of widgets, buttons, launcher, etc it also includes an number of hooks and tweaks into core Android itself designed to make the experience more friendly for non-geek users (no insult implied!).
There are two main camps when it comes to Rosie - some dislike it since it adds bulk to the simplicity of vanilla Android, while some others love it for it's prettier user experience and all its widgets. I personally am in the former camp and have learned to love AOSP vanilla.

Actually, you can't. If you change the launcher to something like Launcher Pro (which I <3), you can't use the stock HTC Widgets for FriendStream, Mail or more popularly that beautiful 4x2 Weather+Clock. Granted, if you buy Launcher Pro Plus you can get very similar social widgets, and if want that clock Beautiful Widgets is the way to go if you ditch Rosie for LPP.
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the black bar at the bottom of your homescreen. She gives you access to your app drawer, dialer and settings - and if you take her away, she takes the HTC Widgets with her. However, all other HTC Sense UI elements, such as the lockscreen or the black status bar all stay in place.
Rosie is just the launcher. She is in charge of your homescreens.
As previously mentioned, the reason people modify her is they don't want to lose the HTC Widgets for whatever reason (too cheap for LPP + BW?), but they want to have a custom look or replace the settings option with say the browser.
That clear it up?

Absolutely. Thank you! The term Rosie didn't come up on any Android glossaries I found online. You should submit your description...
On a side note, I was a devout BB user for years and I feel like a kid again learning this whole new OS from scratch. I was as deep into BB as many of you are in Android, so just making the change was a huge leap. Some people close to me think I'm obsessed with technology, but for me it's what I find interesting and fun and challenging.

Launcher with 4 icons

Now I've looked long and hard on this one. Thoughout xda and any other site that is similar. But to no success. So I ask...
Where and/or how can I get a launcher that has just 4 icons in its dockbar?
The touchwiz one is slow and the homescreen is locked on the first screen "iPhone" style.
ADW launcher and its EX version have been updated to not allow the old "secondary AB settings" anymore.
Launcher pro cant do it period
And the open home launcher is too difficult and I cant pay for it. Used up this weeks app budget.
So I need a launcher that has 4 icons in its dockbar. The new MIUI.ADW launcher has it in its settings but I dont like the scaling and size of the app icons in the drawer and homescreens.
Any help please?
And I mean 4 icons as in similar to touchwiz. Three changable apps and one app drawer icon.
Well you could set up LauncherPro with only 4 shortcuts in the dock. Just leave one of the spaces blank.

Yeah but that makes it appear disorganised. I wan one that's spaced the way the toucwiz launcher is spaced. Go check out miui for adw launcher in the market. Some Guy managed to alter it to use only 4 icons in the dock. I would just use that one with a different theme, but the icons are blown up way too much.
Download launcher pro icons via the market you can change the appearance of you dock 100%.

So you can make the just 4 icons (including launcher) appear evenly amongst the entire dock? There will not be an open space where an icon should be?

I don't think so. I just tried LPI and didn't see any option of making it have what you want. I didn't play around with it too much though because I wanted to uninstall it within the 15 minutes so I didn't get charged for it.
I know what I suggested isn't what you are looking for it was just a thought. You might want to check out this themed version of LP though. It comes with icons in the first 3 dock spaces, then the 4th one blank and the app drawer on the far right. Doesn't look too bad actually.

It does look nice but its not quite what I'm looking for. Does anyone know a way to mod the Adw launcher to have 4 icons in the dock?
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.adw.launcher.miui&feature=search_result
I tried this launcher for a few minutes but I cant get the icons to scale properly with another theme. They all look blown up.
Why not just use ADW Ex with no Dock? This would put 4 Icons on the bottom row and you could make one the app drawer. I am not sure if free ADW has the option for no dock, but I know for sure the Ex version does. I think this way will give you the best most uniform look available.
Live home... but havent found it in the gb market

Why dont you flash miui, if your rooted obviously. It has 4 changeable dock icons that seem to be what your looking for. I personally like it, except it has no app drawer if thats a deal breaker for you. I dont mind it.

Anybody know how to change the size of widgets on 1 page?

I just changed my rom from Beast to Jug. And i find that the widges in the application section is relatively bigger than the Beast's.
Is there a way to change that to make them smaller??

in Go Launcher EX you can resize any widgets you like to any size you like
but in the stock TWlauncher you can only change the size of the widgets to what the widget itself allows

Sorry. I was wrong about the widget... What i meant was the icon size in the application page... Do u know how to make them smaller so that more icons will fit in a page?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
that is known as Rows & Columns in Android
Most 3rd party launchers in Android will let you pick configurations of 4x4 (default) to any other combination like 5x5, or 4x5, 5x4, 6x6, etc
don't ever try to set it to less than 3x3 else most widgets wont fit
and you'll only get like 3 rows by 3 columns
the more rows x columns the more icons you can fit
i use 5x5 anything more than 6x6 gets tooo busy for a finger touch, obviously with some launchers you can do 7x7 or even 8x8 but chances are you'll launch the wrong App/Game because they are stuck so close together

Stock Clock Sense 4.0?

I love the new Stock Sense Htc Clock. Problem is when I install Apex Launcher I lose the stock clock. I have tried Fancy Widgets, Beautiful widgets and even some clocks here on XDA. They all get pretty much everything correct like the stock one, but the size. The ones you download are a tad smaller than the stock one. By at least a half an inch on both width and height and the size of the numbers. Is their any way to get the stock clock while running a launcher like Apex? Or does anyone know of a download clock that is exactly like the stock one, size etc?
Thanks
Sense flip clock & weather maybe ?

Yeah I tried that. Its again too small for the screen. Its only about 80% of the size of the stock one.
Try this. I'm using this on my Nova Launcher. Only issue is that the widget size is 4 X 3. Workaround by changing my home screen layout to 4 columns X 5 rows.

the app "HD widgets" could be the answer.

Template for Nova Launcher themeing

Hi,
in the last few months I really start to like the theme with a static wallpaper (or multi wallpaper) where there is just everything and you use uccw/transparent icon on the phone.
I'm then having problem because often is hard to understand where a widget will be really positioned or is hard to put an icon in the right position (maybe you want to add a counter to it and the counter is not matching the icon in the wallpaper).
I'm using nova launcher (not sure why I choosed that, apex was a little bit laggy scrolling wallpaper and...ss launcher I didn't know about it but right now I love it but because I purchased nova, let's keep nova).
What I'm then wondering is if there are template with line where you can exactly understand where the grid of nova are (7x7, 6x7 and so on) or if someone has some suggestion on how to do that.
I already tried to just craete a pics in photoshop with the resolution of the htc one x and splitting it in 7x7 grid but, not sure why, my grid isn't matching the real grid of the nova homescreen (maybe because there is no notification bar on the top?? don't know).
Any suggesiton or premaded template around (tried to google it but without any good result).
Thanks,
Massimiliano
What you could do I guess, is filling each grid with random apps, screenshot it and open it up in Photoshop and draw a grid based on that. And I think grid size changes if you enable/disable statusbar and dockrow.
And in nova homescreen settings there is width and hight marginal options witch affect grid size aswell.
Perhaps u can make two full size icons with different colours and place out, might make it easier drawing the grid if icons have straight edges.
Edit: take a screenshot while moving a widget, that will show the grid.
