4Gb is 4 gigabits not gigabytes
8 bits = 1 byte
4 gigabits(4096 megabits) / 8 = 512 megabytes

ah i was thinking gigabytes!

If it's the same platform as the Galaxy S, then it'll have 384MB.

I think its about 512 megs.
Which is a good amount for a phone

evry omnia 7 4GB RAM 16 GB storage?

Hi all,
check this thread..
HTML:
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011/01/09/samsung-omnia-7-has-4gb-of-ddr-ram-service-manual-released/#more-18118
4 GB? Sounds way too insanely good to be true. And wouldn't make much sense unless they were planning to launch the exact same device later with access to the
RAM, so they could keep manufacturing costs down while still having a new device.
please dont post tings like this! i had a real hard time choosing between the16gb hd7 and the 8gb omnia 7 ( i live in uk so there is no 16gb omnia 7) in the end i opted for the 8gb omnia 7 but was secretly hoping it had a micro SD slot inside. a teardown revealed that it didnt and so im stuck with 8gb ,, at least its nand memory. how i would love 16gb but your thread got my hopes up only to break my heart again.....only way for 16gb uk omnia is to desolder the 8gb memory and put in a 16gb one? dont suspose anybody knows whatthe 16gb chip is inside the german model?
From the article:
UPDATE: Thanks to Fred in the comments bellow who found the answer to this confusing situation. For some totally illogical reason Samsung is listing the Rom and Ram in Gigabites and the iNAND storage in Gigabytes. So 8Gb = 1GB of Rom and 4Gb = 512MB or DDR SDRAM Ram.

Confirm total Ram in i927 vs i927R

I thought the i927/i927r where the same spec.
The Rogers Galaxy S Glide has a total of 724mb ram in the task manager instead of 1gb.
Can others confirm from either device you have?
thanx.

I have Rogers and see the same as you. I assume some is used for the OS and hidden. Agreed this does seem misleading. Try adding up the hard drive space and you do not make 8GB either as it is mentioned to have.
I see 2 Partitions:
1.97 System Storage
3.75 USB Storage.
Above info also taken from Task manager.

Same in i927 (AT&T Model) also.. 724 MB..
Remaining will be used by OS and GPU...
do you have the same HD space on AT&T that I posted above as well?

Can anyone else with the i927 AT&T Captivate Glide version confirm total ram in task manager and sizes of the sd and USB partitions ?
Thanx.
Captivate Glide - AT&T
RAM 724MB
System storage 1.97GB
USB storage 3.75GB
256MB is used for Nvidia's graphics card. It's like shared RAM on a laptop with integrated graphics.

Wow, so Phones with 512megs will only see 256? Wow! Boy am I glad I got this phone with 1024 where only 724 is available. What is the story with the Hard drive? Is the Android Operating system using that much from my 8GB?

I thought it strange too.
My Motorola Milestone 2 has 512MB RAM, but only 477MB is usable. Only a gap of 35MB disappears somewhere, not 256MB. But then it doesn't have as good a GPU, so maybe it doesnt use as much for graphics.
Its only ever got 100 to 150MB free at any time out of the 477MB.

that's because of the way the linux kernel uses RAM to buffer and cache to speed things up, otherwise the ram would be idle and wasted.

RAM in Galaxy Nexus: why only 693 M?

Our device has a 1 GB RAM chip. Why do we see only 693 MB available? On other 1 GB phones the available RAM is at least 850 MB, sometimes even 920..940 MB. Where is the remaining RAM in Nexus?

If its available and you can afford the extra, yes, its a no brainer.

Around 5%, but the extra 16GB storage is very helpful.

Like @jhericurls said, the extra 1 GB of RAM is negligble for now (since the apps are optimized for 2 GB), but the extra 16 GB is huge, if you intend on loading any apps directly onto the phone (not all apps can be installed on the microSD card, so for me this was a key factor in going for a 32 GB model). I've got a 32 GB microSDHC card I am using for my media mostly.

Galaxy S20 Ultra 512Gb NOT 16GB RAM

I just downloaded AIDA and my S20 is showing 14Gb Ram only, does anyone has the same issue?

Every phone has a certain amount of RAM reserved for the OS and etc.
You never get the full % of the amount of RAM they say the phone has.
hmmmm actually you just need to get used to the marketing speak that manufacturers use to cheat consumers.
In computer speak, 1 GB = 1024MB, or 1,073,741,824 Bytes
In marketing Speak, 1 GB =1000 "MB" or 1,000,000,000 "bytes"
Your phone's OS talks in computer speak, hence 16,000,000,000 bytes = 14.9 GB
the "RAM reserved by OS" is just a con. The OS reserves only about 500mb to 1gb of ram.
The phone manufacturers got "worried" about people questioning them, and starting faking display in their in system apps showing 16,000,000,000 bytes as 16GB so that non IT people won't be making any noise. However, if you use a proper app, you'll see only 14.9 GB.
Perfectly normal.
There is indeed 16GB physical ram installed.
Isn't it the same with SD and micro SD cards?like I have a 1 TB. micro SD card but as soon as you pop it in to the phone it registers 0.93 gb.
