[MOD] Trackpad Wake - with Stock/CM ROM's [KERNEL] Updated baconbits[11/19/10] - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

Yet another Q&D MOD. Trackpad wake. If you're like me, I hate the placement of the power button. I have used minotauri's ad block MOD as a springboard for this. So, enjoy!
Requirements:
Root or Temp Root via VISIONary or equivalent
Busybox
Gscript (included in the zip)
*1.22.531.8 FW - Recommended
Instructions Updated:
Download gscript.zip below
Copy the package to the ROOT of you sdcard and extract it to gscript *very important!
There will now be a gscript folder on your SDcard.
Using a file manager Install Gscript.apk (inside /sdcard/gscript)
Exit your file manager
Open Gscript via app drawer
Press Menu
Add Script
Load File
Select vision-tp-wake
Ensure "Needs SU?" is checked
Save
Run Script
**The phone will then do a "Hot Restart", let it boot again et voila!
If you want to use baconbits kernel, download the zip below and flash via clockwork.
If you have Temp-Root:
This needs to be ran again after every reboot.
If you have Perm-Root:
Run this once, that's it.
*Note - I am a poor script writer.
**This will probably work for other newer HTC devices with trackpad too. I.e. Desire Z, MT4G, etc...
Change Log:
temp-root version:
initial release
perma-root & custom kernel version:
perma-root-tpwake-via-gscript-v.3 - compatible with baconbits now
cm-baconbits kernel with trackpad wake fix: 11/18/10
updated with trackpad wake kernel fix - credits to cyanogen for the commit
added 900mhz speed step
Download below
added/updated gscript zip: 11/19/10
will now create sdcard/gscript folder

***There is an incompatibility with cm's original baconbits. If you are using the stock kernel this will work fine. However, if you want to use baconbits, I have updated the kernel to now work with this mod. Download below.

Excuse this super NOOB question, but what exctly will this do?
Sorry, I'm still new to the Android market and the G2 is my first Android based phone but I'm learning on the fly!

hope @paul grabs this and spices it up and compiles it in an app some how, or directly into visionary. great work evil

It wakes (turns the screen on) via the trackpad, which is normally done by the power button. Press the power button, screen comes on. Same thing, except it uses the trackpad.

i think it's missing a file (in bold)
cp /sdcard/curcial-oj.kl /system/usr/keylayout/curcial-oj.kl

Ah ok, figured from the topic title but i just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Thank you, I missed this from my Nexus one!

thanks! this works great! i also missed this from the N1.
i'll probably put this in my visionary script too.

I did everything in the instructions and it doesn't want to work for me. It does the "hot restart" but still it doesn't wake with the trackpad.
Any ideas?

did you put the files in the right places?
Install gscript lite
*put vision-tp-wake.sh in /sdcard/gscript/
then put curcial-oj in /sdcard/
add the .sh to grscript and then run it and all should work.

Would it be possible to combine the lcd density scipt with this so both happen on the hot boot?

Thanks again for this man. Hated having to hit the power button all the time. The thing is that it seems to be working a few times then stops. Ive reinstalled gscript and reran the script but same thing happens. anyone else having this issue?

Works great. Thank you!

Can't get phone rooted at all

I've been at this for awhile and anything I try doesn't work. I used the SDK & PdaNet drivers on Win-7 x64, none have worked at all. "Offline" will only show twice after pressing recovery, I even used the vid posted by Kingofroyo and it didn't work either. I tried 2 sd cards also, adb works on my rooted g1 perfectly but the slide wont work in recovery mode. I used the guide by Eugene and followed every step but loop is the problem.
I dont think the sd is the problem or the drivers. You probably are missing a step somewhere. I have rooted the slide 3 times and the incredible (with the impossible root method) 4 times. It isnt a driver problem. Not putting you down but i have done every method.
Can you explain step by step what ou are doing?

I had the same problem but I have xp. Mine would show up only twice. My advise to u is not to use the loop method. I had to type adb devices manually. Once it has been type u can press the up arrow key and it will put the command back in for u all u have to do is press enter. I did that and once it shows offline the second time stop doing that and move on to the other steps. I'll be honest it takes good timing good luck.

Same for me, it shows it twice only then that's it...loop is to quick for me to catch it, since it flashes pretty quick.
U will have to try the manual method then. My wife's slide the loop worked perfect I was done in 5mins. Once u get the manual method down it will be cake from there.

I'm gonna ask my bro to pull it so i can keep typing adb devices, it shows offline about 4-5 secs after pressing reboot.
I hade the same problem but what worked for me was to listen to the usb notification sound on your pc. It beeps (on mine at least) like 3 times. This served as a warning to get ready to hit ctrl-c. I personally hold down ctrl as soon as I hit the power button on my phone. As soon as you see the loop stutter the next one will be offline. Hit c! Then y. Then adb devices. You should see offline (or sometimes already recovery) then you can unplug/plug and go on with the steps. Hope that helps.

Ok try this "remove your sim card" it worked for me for some reason the sim card has something to do with the ability to cache the state of the device possibly do to it checking for a sim lock or something.
Also have patience its all about timing the loop.bat is by far the easiest way.

It runs VERY smoothly. Overclocking is a horse a piece, some phones can do 864 mhz stable no issues, but some max out at 806 mhz and slightly lower. I am stable at 834 mhz right now. If you look at the Optimus S and it's over clocking habits, it's almost the exact hardware.
Is this recovery like the one for the Samsung Intercept that you you have to use the factory reset inside the recovery and that you can't use the factory reset inside the privacy tab or it can brick your phone?

yep same here...stuck at LG loading screen after following guide.
EDIT:
Fixed it by going back into recovery mode...reflashing the ZIP file a second time. and then wiping the data/factory reset again. This time it took.
Now it's rooted and ready to go.
This is a really nice phone. I use a nexus one and this is for my girlfriend, but this is such a nice phone I'm tempted to switch myself. Sooooooo much better than the Intercept I had on froyo.

Curious, what are you using for OCing? I installed setCPU for underclocking while sleeping, but I haven't found an OC kernel for the optimus V that didn't have some "quirks" to it like messing up the hardware buttons at the bottom. (Even though there is a way to fix it with a market app, I just don't like installing stuff that needs workarounds.)

[Q] Help

I'm not sure, if I'm right here. I use this site for the first time.
So, I have a little problem, and maybe you can help me.
Yeah, it's right: I've a HTC Wildfire S.
Now:
You know the phone well I think. My english isn't that good. At the top of the smartphone there is a button with which you can unlock the display/screen. But right there is my problem. This button doesn't work anymore. And HTC won't to that for free.
My question is: Could somebody of you - if it isn't difficult - make a ROM or something like this to change it? So that I can use something different for it? Like the buttons on the display or the loudspeaker buttons?
And there is another question: How I could lock the screen, if this button doesn't work?
I hope you can help me!!
In fact this is not only lock/unlock button, but the power on/off button. If ever your phone gets off, it's dead.
It is not possible to remap the hardware buttons. don't you have guanrantee?
Yes, I know that. But with changing the battery the phone could power on..
Do you mean that you cant do something like I want?
Yes. It is not possible. There is a way to wake up your phone with vol. buttons in a custom rom and locking can be done automatically in the security settings. but when your power button does not work you will not be able to flash a custom rom.
Thanks. That's not that what I hope. But better than no answer
To the guarantee question..normally yes..but they say it's my fault..I dropped it...but yes I dropped it but after 3 weeks the phone doesn't work..can tsomething like that be?

I mean, if a small piece of plastic is broken, you should be able to stick it...

since wfs has only 3 buttons, u broke the third of your phone.... and to make things worse, its power button ...

1) IF YOUR NOT S-OFF - Use HTCDEV and unlock the bootloader.
2) IF YOU DONT HAVE CUSTOM RECOVERY/ARE NOT ROOTED - Click here, sign up, click on resources then click testing resources. Download the Auto-Installer GUI. Run the installer (Windows?) and then install cwm recovery and root.
3) Download Rom Manager from the Android market
4) Download Hensemod here, flash it using rom manager.
5) Enjoy Henry's wake by volume feature his amazing sense rom.
Any problems then DON'T BE AFRAID TO CONTACT ME! I will always reply even if it is a few days later.

Wifi only roms

Is there a reason why you don't want the script? The beauty of the script is that you can use any ROM you want and use the script to make it wifi-only. Most people pick a ROM that they like and get good battery life with, and then just apply the script.
Aside from the couple of seconds it takes to flash the script, I cant envision any real benefit of having a ROM designed to be wifi-only vs. a ROM made to become wifi-only.
I'm also not sure what picking a "Tom" means... but it's probably not as important as my first question.
Really I did not know that. So when I flash the script what will change on the Rom? And do I need to wipe everything before I flash the script? Oh and spell correct changed Rom to tom and I didn't catch it...........

As far as I know, it doesn't "change" anything... it just disables the radios (except wifi). Think of it like putting your phone in Airplane mode, but the wifi still works. As for wiping, I'm not sure. I've never used the script before.

Actually wifi works with airplane mode on you just have to turn wifi back on. However with sense you have to do that every boot, not on aosp though. Because of this and to avoid draining battery, the script sounds better for the op.

All the script does is install a startup script that runs another system script called "radio_options" in /system/bin with an option of 1, dissabling the radio. No wiping is required, and can be removed at any time.
Thanks this helped a lot!

does anyone have a link to such a script? I remember seeing one a while back but I can't find it anymore. I have turned my D2G into an mp3 player device so I was hoping for the same outcome. Plus it's cleaner to not have a radio attempting to connect all the time.
EDIT: Nevermind, I was under the impression it was a script one would flash, not something you could do yourself with script manager.

You just make a file with no extension and then put this in it
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
radiooptions 1
Then pop the file in your init.d folder if your rom/kernel supports it, or use an app like script manager or autostart root to run the file at boot. Note if using an app to run at startup, you must set the app to run it with root permission.

I wrote this script using script manager and gave it root permissions and startup permissions and then ran it (also tried rebooting) and it didn't seem to do anything. Are there any visible changes that would take place when you do it?

Yes, the signal bars will grey out and have a white X over them.
Try using a terminal emulator app and type in
Code:
su - Hit Enter
radiooptions 1 - Hit Enter
You should see the signal bars X'd out.

this is what i got when I tried to do that, it didn't seem to change anything.
it's the same image that shows that it doesn't have any signal because there is no number attached to it anymore.
It looks like it worked, the bars are greyed out and has an X. Even if there is no telephone number associated with the phone, it will still show the signal bars as it will still communicate with verizon just not have service.

haha well in that case there might be something wrong with the phone because it has been like that since I flashed the ROM but it doesnt really matter since I don't need it.

[ROM] Ubuntu Touch [Mar-6-2014]

Better explaination of Ubuntu OS and how it relates to us.
Ubuntu OS currently run on top of an Android "shell". The android layer contains the boot.img(kernel/ramdisk), initd, vendor specific drivers etc.. This is what first boots then the ubuntu file system is loaded within this Android "shell". This is why we need flash two zips to have it working(Android and Ubuntu). Ubuntu uses CM10.1 repos for the Android shell portion of the OS. This still works for us as we had official cm 10.1, though development wasn't long lived before moving to 10.2.
There is an AOSP 4.4.2 branch Ubuntu is working on to maybe replace the CM based Android component, but it is currently less stable than the CM based. Hopefully the AOSP branch becomes more stable in the near future as the development for our device is active there.
Built from source using modified mako tree/kernel
Working:
Most things..
Power key works to turn screen on and off after a reboot
Phone/SMS
3G/Wifi
Camera

Bugs/Not Working:
1. Cannot seem to add account with numbers in the email. The back button is active under the keyboard and is activated when trying to switch to numerical keypad
To Import Google Contacts from computer terminal:
adb shell
sudo -u phablet -i
syncevolution --configure --sync-property "[email protected]" --sync-property "password=secret" Google_Contacts
syncevolution --sync refresh-from-server Google_Contacts addressbook
2. Vol. Keys/Caps not working... doubt cap keys will be supported as the ui is made for not having them.
3. Wifi not remembered after reboot
4. Alarms don't work

I don't know if this thread is helpful for you, or maybe you've alreay seen it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587823
i tried it and it booted successful on my geehrc. Wifi worked, also keyboard and i could add an account too. Phone/SMS didn't work due no signal. The keyboard had also one severe bug: In the terminal the enter key didn't work.
It's worth a try, you can easily remove it, you just have to reflash your recovery ( in my case TWRP ).
New update. Running ALOT smoother.
The ubuntu zip is a nightly offered through ubuntu so you can always re download that at any point and flash overtop current installation to get the latest. It's a large file so I usually get it weekly...
Will this work on the American geeb (e970)? :-?

It works! Everything seems to be working; just a few bugs here and there with the keyboard and occasional glitches in performance but very impressive for something that's unoptimized..Thanks!

Its not for sprint yet.....I'll work on that this weekend hopefully.
The geeb.zip is needed because of how Ubuntu touch works. Its currently using a mako device tree that has been converted to flash on my e973, the at&t is pretty much the exact same which is why it works for them.
First you flash a cm10.1 based Ubuntu tweaked android sysyem-- geeb.zip
Second is the Ubuntu rootfs that goes atop the android base-- Ubuntu zip
I'm totally jacked to try this. I've downloaded each file twice and tried to get this running. Thing is that the md5s are different for each file. I tried all 4 combinations and let them try to boot for 30 mins each. I must be getting bad downloads lol
Long story short: I would be super grateful for some md5s, if you get a chance

Seems like this is starting to happen to more people..... wondering if ubuntu zip got changed causing it not to boot. I'll try to get a booting copy up today
EDIT:
I downloaded everything myself to try and con confirm it is currently not booting. Ubuntu has changed something that has broke our display. If you reboot the phone you can turn the screen on an off with the power button. I'll hopefully fix this this weekend.. though it's a busy one for me already. See what I can do

Thanks! But yeah, nobody here assumes this should take priority over anything in your personal life we'll get it when we get it.

This weekend ended up being a write off for me so I'll have to see when I can get to making a new working zip, or maybe its an issue from ubuntu end they'll resolve.
Did anyone that tried this and had it boot happen to still have the trusty-preinstalled zip they used? If someone has one from 8th or earlier it should boot... i unfortunatly don't have an earlier build then the 13th... you can still download the 12th and up from the ubuntu phablet site... not sure if that pre-dates the issue or not.
Edit: I havn't tried the 13th build to say if it works or not. Here is the link to the phablet site if someone wants to try an earlier build. look for the preinstalled zip at the bottom of the page after selecting the date
I'll guinea pig a couple older builds and post which one works.

Ok, again I feel a little stupid(again).... I don't empty my Trash very often at all(on my computer or in real life), just neglected to think of it til now. I have an Ubuntu zip from the 4th still there, uploading it now(upload speed is slow... won't be done for an hour or so). Going to check that it boots as it should then i'll post the link.
Again, this is just to hold over untill I can try to see what I need to change to get us booting with the nightlies again.
EDIT: Can verify now that it boots. Here is the Ubuntu zip from the 4th. Remember, not that it really matters, this is an older version than the current.

Confirmed, definitely boots. And I've successfully added all my accounts, but you've gotta either tap the top-right corner of the bottom-left 'swap' key to get the @ or the numbers, or the bottom-left corner of the swap-key (depends on which account you're trying to add - some of them have the Back button in the way which you can avoid by tapping the top-right corner of the swap key, and some have the Cancel button in the way, which you can avoid by tapping the bottom-left corner of the swap key). It's a pain the arse but it works.
I want to do the Google Contacts fix, but I want to do it from the handset's terminal app (i.e. not through ADB) - how do you do a return (Enter) in the Terminal app?
EDIT: found the fix for Enter and Backspace not working in terminal app. Flash this in recovery.
