[LIST] HTC Vision versions Apps Comparison | generic D-Z, BELL(NAM) D-Z, T-mobile G2 - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

We are starting to notice some software (apks) differences between the EURO/ASIA D-Zs and the BELL-NAM D-Zs
This thread is aimed to creating a list of such differences (and work in cross-porting some interesting shizz ??)
It would be cool to get both devices running side by side to compare what's included and what's not (differences between EURO/ASIA and BELL-NAM software versions)
Some of you lucky guys already got your D-Zs
So I am asking cooperation, if someone could please write down a list of your stock-out-of-the-box included apps, or at least report what's missing / added.

That is correct and confirmed. There seems to be a sync in the locations under settings to sync google with HTC locations. You can activate it but I'm sure it will not do any good. There is also an option in that same menu to re-download the HTC locations..? Tried it but get an error. What we knew as footprints is now called locations. I beleive this is now tied into the HTC location app with the built in maps which is confirmed to be on the EURO/ASIA Desire Z. That is why we don't have the location (footprint) widget. I did not see anything about the book reader on the video so I guess that must only be on the Desire HD..? Here is the link to the video. Fast forward to 6.57 for the demo on locations.

@Rapster: thanks for confirming
It woud be great to have some Euro users feedback though

NP, also, not sure how other NAM peeps are doing with their data but as I have been using on AT&T in the USA I can say the data is abit inconsistant. My wife has the iphone and her 3G signal standing right next to the DZ is much stronger. The phone (at least for me) also switchs from "H" HSDPA to "3G" UMTS when data is not running or needed. Driving arounf my town where 3G is very strong (usually 4 to 5 bars on the wife's iPhone) will be anywhere from 2 to 3 bars on the DZ and sometimes switching from 3G or H to EDGE and back again. Maybe the NAM is not properly using the 850 3G band on AT&T's network..? Not sure. Would love to know others experieces also. EURO version and NAM versions. My speed tests have been all across the board also. During the test, it fluxuates.. Jumps real high, then low.. The needle is all over the place. I am pretty sure my APN is set up properly. I can receive and send data and MMS messages just fine. I may just be AT&T crappin out ATM.

I don't have my Desire Z yet, but just from something I read in the NAM User Manual, it seems that that version of the phone only allows 2 devices to connect to the Desire Z when it's being used as a wireless hotspot. I clearly saw in a video of the standard Desire Z that wireless tethering supported up to 8 connections. Perhaps someone could confirm that this is a difference in the two devices?

Bell screws over desire z customers!!!
Hey you guys are right.
Just got a desire z through Bell for my sis and noticed that htc locations doesn't exist. Replacing it is something called GPS Navigator which is a horrible app. Super slow and laggy. Also adding to the disgust is a $10 monthly fee which they expect ppl to pay.
Hope someone out there reads this and can help get this app back on the phone. Was something worth looking forward to besides the new HTC sense.

Hey, thanks for creating this thread!
I was wondering what would be the difference between going with an unlocked unit from bell, and getting a factory unlocked ncix NAM version:
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=56666&vpn=Desire%20Z%20Black&manufacture=HTC
I was swayed by the bell pricing, and went ahead and got a bell branded HTC Desire off contract, and am using it on rogers. here are some of the apps I would say are unique to the bell version, but I can't be sure until nicx gets stock.

The NAM allows the number of users to be set in the setup of the wireless hotspot app. Can set from 1 to 8.

Very good point. I finally got Locations on my Bell NAM version and was quite disappointed after all the hype. Unless one is roaming regularly, I would suggest Google Navigation for free.

Hey, how did you end up getting locations installed on your desire-z? I just got mine and i'm pissed bell removed the app. Also, i'm experiencing the odd reception issue, every now and then i go from full bars to zero for no reason.
Cheers,
Greg.

Hi there,
I´ve just got the htc desire z with stock rom (europe) and besides all stuff mentioned in the startpost I've got the following stuff between my apps as well :
blocked callers
calculator
call history
clock
connected media
learn more
mail
messages
music
people
phone
search anywere
search people
settings
setup
sim toolkit
video's
some could be logical and not mentioned (people for instance) but it wasn't listed in the start post so I've just added them.
I got rid of the stupid stocks and amazon mp3 stuff which is worthless IMO
after being a loyal ppc/wm fan I must say that I absolutely have no regrets hoppin over to andriod

Video CAll for XDA Live in future?

Will there be a chance that we will be getting video call for upcoming version of XDA Live?
Are there difficulty of integrating the function into the ROM?
the XDA Live V0.10 is great and really look forward for V0.20...0.30....
Thank you all for your efforts
I have NO DOUBT that video call will be integrated.....but for now (we are only just about to see version 0.2 remember ) the only way to get video calling on XDA-Live is by reading the thread and installing the appropriate cabs. I did install it and it worked ok but the skin didnt match the rest of XDA-Live so i removed it.
Patience sir the video call option will be available when the time is right.
will it be easy updating to the newer versions of xda live or i need to do a hard reset and reinstallation of all my apps? thanks

Not sure what you mean, but when you run the installer for the new version it will be exactly like a hard reset......the BEST thing you can ever do is get an activesync account with someone like Mail2Web so all your emails, contacts, tasks and calendar appointments are literally saved ALL THE TIME, then make sure all the files you want to keep are either backed up on your SD card or on the pc. when you hard reset its literally then a case of restoring your GPRS/MMS/activesync settings, reinstalling your programs and restoring your files.
Ive managed a hard-reset and restore in the space of ten minutes.
EDIT:: you dont NEED to have the device syncing over GPRS, it will sync with the online account through activesync on your pc if you wish. but syncing over gprs gives you the added bonus of push email
Neither Video calling nor PTT will be integrated into the ROM, reason being that these apps only have regional popularity (Video not available in N. America, PTT not available in Europe)... No need to clutter the base ROM and reduce the size of program area for apps that half of us would never use.
The solution is this: These two apps will be part of the add-on "toolkit" for XDA Live.

I have applied the patch which makes the video function to work. Was just wondering if we will actually placed the WM6 version in XDA Live!
Anyway, the ROM is great, itz fast and very steady. My softbank has not hanged once since I upgraded.
Cheers!
hi guys,
i got video call working with one a couple of the cabs available in the 1.35 ext rom (as posted above) then skinned the dialer with the 3G iphone dialpad.
Works a treat.
Also, the 3g/U/E/G icons are fixed as well with the 1.35ext rom cabs as above.

Is there a fix for HTC home Weather plugin with T-mobile tzones internet?

Did anyone manage to get this weather plugin to work with Tmobile tzones ($5.99) internet? I tried to search for this issue but couldn't find a clear answer.
I works fine via ActiveSync or Wireless internet - but no go for t-zones proxied connection.
If I understood correctly, you would like to load the weather data over T-mobile. Correctly?
If, functions perfectly. Only select city and completely.
Or did you want another program, in place of the HTC weather Plugin?
Describe nevertheless please times which as much money costs there.
I am not safe me whether I you correctly understood.

I think you need to learn the English language a little better, before you try to help others... hehe I have no idea what you're talking about!
There's a fix for it. Someone created a server for the HTC plugin to get its data from and it works through TMobile (tzones or not). Read the HTC Home plugin threads around here and I'm sure you'll find a cab...
I tried the patched version on t-mobileweb and still couldn't get it to work..
I use spb mobile shell. It works.

Yes, that what's happening to me. There is a thread for HTC Home weather fix, but it looks like the author is rarely responding to peoples questions. Yes, he created a modified cab file that uses one of his servers to re-route the data, but somehow it's not working. I believe it's because of t-mobile tzone internet is using proxied access. On the regular internet access (thru WIfI or wireless lan or activesync) the plugin works great.
Is there a lucky person who managed to get this plugin to work on T-mobile USA tzones internet?
juzzie: the 6tab cab worked for me on this t-mobile plan:$29.99/month, Unlimited w/o VPN, internet2.voicestream.com. And U'r right, it looks like the owner of that thread has left the building!

Yep, I know. It's working on T-mobile data plans. But I'm using tzones which is a proxied connection.
To tell you honestly - I gave up. I tried Fizz weather and it works like a charm. It offers far better weather related services and takes only a thin bar on the home screen. You just have to configure it properly: I'm using 2 days forecast including current weather.
Been Trying!
I been trying for a long time now everyday to find the answer to Tmobile USA not being able to use the htc plugin weather program. I myself have full access internet 29.99. sometime it will load it, some times it wont. Maybe its where your at? check the tmobile site www.tmobile.com to see how is your signal. If everyone can come up with a test simple it would be faster to figure it out. Developers neeed help and imput. good luck
yeah, the modified cabs of the HTC weather plugin will only work on a non-proxied connection. I'm having the same trouble, and have tried everything out there.
N2A (creator of the modified HTC weather server) goes thru port 80 which is blocked on $5.99 T-zones, so thats where we suffer.
As far as SPB mobile shell goes, does it integrate with HTC Home tabs? or is it something on its own? any screen captures available?
Well maybe you can ask the guy nicely to make another dll for you that will connect to his server using a different port !

lol, I guess I could do that.
I would also recommend WeatherPanel with the "son of commuter 240" theme. It's just an awesome combination...
Maybe, just maybe this could help
Hi, I recently changed a HTC Touch (T-mobile GER) around completely to get rid of the (for me) unwanted carrier specifics of the original Rom. I Backuped the Ext Rom in which I came across the attached cab (I frankly don't have any idea what it does - all other contents were merely hompage setting or spftkey changer app...)
Since Tmob found it useful to play with the weather, maybe someone could see what's inside. Maybe it could solve the problem.
Cheers, Chris

My UK t-mobile one does not have arabic under locales (but it only has 6 choices)
I've bought mine 2 days ago. Looking at the locale i only have Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. So bear in mind that the phone may have different language and locations depending on where you bought it from. Clearly mine is an Eastern European version.
P.S: Amazing phone. I'm in love!

I see they have added us(Baltics) in locale. On Hero sold here there were only the first five. I was hoping we get the Nordic one, but yeh... Eastern europe makes sense. But why not other countries then?
I really dislike the segmented markets and versions in technological devices...

desire test
i would like to test on Desire this:
Outlook contacts + calendar
-sync with Desire over the microUSB cable. does the Outlook Calendar + Condatcs sync without data being transferred to Google Gmail/Google Calendar and so on ?
- does the Sync happen automatically (like ActiveSync with Windows Mobile devices) on background in Windows XP/7 ... or do you have to start anything manually after you plug in the device ?
Browser with integrated flash video player:
- could you open www.youtube.com on the integrated google web browser and try to play videos in 360, 480, 720p ?
SD card:
- is the Desire shipped with SD card, or without ?
LCD Screen:
- does it glare a lot on sunlight ?
- is there any screen protector shipped with Desire ?
------
sorry it's not ROM cooking related, but i would be interested anyway, if you find the time to test and answer

Outlook contacts + calendar
-I know that the syncing is possible and you can set it to automatic, but not if its pushed through to G-Apps, i think not though
Browser with integrated flash video player:
- When you go to the regular youtube website, and the flashplayer is loaded, you see a big play button (no bar on the bottom). When you hit it, the youtube app pops up and plays your video. Good news though: theres an option for high quality video in there, which imo gives perfect quality (and i have high standards)
SD card:
- Mine came with a class 2 4GB microsd, already in the phone (so htc put it there, all desire's should have one)
LCD Screen:
- I did notice in the bus today that its very reflective, but if you up the brightness to 100%, theres no problem at all.
- No, but you can buy them off ebay, theres a supplier in the UK that has an unending supply of 6packs for about 2 euro
* Note: it's not an LCD screen, but an amoled one
Also for anybody who's interested:
Due to the nature of the screen and the fact htc & google ignore websafe colors, some shades of grey look a little pinkish. Its not at all anoying or ugly, and its barely noticable. Still, its there.
Hope this helped you,
Nick

I went from the Diamond to the Magic (second android phone) and never looked back. Seriously, once you've tried android, you will wonder how you could ever live with WM.
Try borrowing a device from a friend or ask for a demo in a store?

Clovek1 I had a diamond too and yesterday I got the Desire...Man let me tell you, it's a huge step forward.
The only thing bellow "great" is the camera but I don't really care. The interface is fantastic and the speed of the thing is really amazing.
I have the same problem with the locales, as it displays only 6(the greek language isn't there), but I got MoreLocale 2.
Also I can't see the paid apps as they're not supported in Greece atm.
i am using Outlook Calendar synchronization in my office quite often (daily). The Google Calendar is blocked in my company, for security reasons.
Therefore i would like to be sure, that the synchronization really works.
btw. how do you transfer your contacts from Windows Mobile to Android ? Through Outlook ?

It depends on the version of Exchange being used by your company.
Exchange 2007 is syncing calendar just fine but Exchange 2010 has a problem in that it initially syncs but then generates an error that causes all mail/contact sync to fail (stop syncing calendar and mail/contacts sync fine again). I can't vouch for Exchange 2003 as I don't know anybody using it with Android.
Having just moved from WinMo to Android the contacts migration is seamless - you're talking to an Exchange Server, give it the right credentials and all your contacts and mail will flow sweetly. My old Kaiser hasn't been plugged in to a PC to Sync ever - and neither will the Desire. Why, when it can all be done over the air via Exchange.
Now if only Tasks would be supported as standard without having to buy something extra.
Rgds
Aaron
Yes there appears to be a problem with Exchange 2010. When the Desire arrived here, I was still connecting successfully to Exchange 2003. Since then we have upgraded to Exchange 2010, and Calendar sync now fails. As you say, it fails badly enough to stall mail and contacts sync too.
By disabling Calendar sync on the phone, mail and contacts then sync nicely. Enable Calendar sync, and if your Exchange is 2010, it al goes wrong.
I note you are syncing fine to Exchange 2007, so this must be a weakness with Exchange 2010, but it is hard to blame the Exchange server, as my iPods/iPhones sync just fine with Exchange 2010.
So in summary, there appears to be a show-stopper sync error on HTC Sense Exchange 2010 support which thwarts Calendar sync. Here's hoping there is a fix for this shortly, as the Desire becomes a no-go for corporates until this is sorted.

HTC Hub Update - Version 1.8 (Build 2116.27276)

Version 1.8 (Build 2116.27276) is now out....
I received an update to the HTC Hub through the Marketplace. Anybody out there know what the update entails? I haven't noticed anything different. Probably Mango compatibility if I were to guess. I couldn't find any documentation through the HTC site. Thanks!
Phone: HTC Trophy (NoDo)
Carrier: Verizon Wireless (US)
I'm on a Verizon HTC Trophy and it showed up for me too...

Yeah, I felt the same.
tested it if itll resume to its state where you left it,(mango fast app switching) it still doesnt.
live tile seem to be more LIVE than the previous version. it updated the tile as soon as i got back to the start screen.
these are the only improvements ive seen so far.
Different for me...
My tile now doesn't show temperature or weather condition only appears mini icons of htc applications and a static sun on background, before appears moon or sun, showers, where I am, etc...only when I enter I can see the information.
I see in reviews at marketplace that other people has this problem... live tile doesn't work now
solution found
I unistall and reinstall the hub and now live tile works fine...

Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S2 questions before buying

I have a bb9700 and my wife has the htc sensation and galaxy vibrant. We are interested in buying the SG2 and wanted to know what would be the best options and apps to use to print wirelessly from the phone to our printer (canon). Also My wife uses the Blueant bluetooth headset and has issues with the htc sensation. Has anybody used this particular headset with this phone and can share their experience?
Can someone help with finding ways to activate the notification light on the tmobile SG2 just like the Sprint one?
Should i uprade my SD card to avoid lag when opening the gallery on the phone? I still have my 16 gig from my HTC Hd2 (when it came out).
I plan on using amazon cloud service for multimedia (movie, music, videos, pictures), can someone share if it is worth it?
Does google video chat works with this device?
My wife and i speak english and have a french accent, will this be a problem when using the voice feature on this phone? is it possible to change the language from english to french for the voice feature?
Sounds like a lot of questions but i will appreciate your help since i need these questions answered before buying this phone.
I played with the device in the store but could not modify the phone to test my needs.
Thanks
printing
i use this one
Samsung MobilePrint
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sec.print.mobileprint
i have a networked Samsung Colour Lazer printer, so it's easy for me to send the print job there from the Office Apps or photos in the phone
i know HP also have their own software
HP ePrint Home & Biz
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hp.android.print
but there are 3rd party printer apps for Android as well if you check on market
I'll be surprised if Canon doesn't have one, they will soon, else they'll be losing business to the other guys
NVM found it...
Canon Easy-PhotoPrint

language
...man... it would have been easier to have each of those questions in a separate topic
re: accent, yes you can change the language, and it will detect it better
chance the phone language to match your strongest tone
in my case i use it mostly in Spanish, although most apps and games are 80% english only
at least the OS is smart enough to understand voice commands in Spanish, grab dictation and stuff properly
set your keyboard to be French in your case, to match the OS language to French
Vlingo has language option as well
sd card
lag from the photo gallery are not very influenced by the SD card
obviously the faster the SD card the better for data transfer
but the photo gallery keeps cached thumbnails, so if it lags, it will only be the first time when it builds up the thumbnails cache on your first run, or for the new pictures taken
AllGamer,
thank you so much for your answers. Sorry for piling all my concerns in one question.
Can you tell me about how i can activate the notification light on the phone just like htc and blackberry have on their phones? I have been spoiled by that feature and i am eager to find how to make it work (if possible).
