WARNING: THIS COULD PERMENANTLY BRICK YOUR PHONE, INSTEAD OF ROOT IT IF YOU DO THE EVER-SO-SLIGHTEST THING WRONG. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. I AM NOT LIABLE FOR YOUR STUPIDITY. ALSO, THE HBOOT FILE LOCATED HERE SHOULD ONLY BE USED ON THE G2. IF YOU SO CHOOSE TO USE THIS ON YOUR DESIRE Z, DESIRE HD, MOTOROLA RAZR, WHATEVER, IT WILL PROBABLY SCREW THINGS UP. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, ONCE AGAIN!
The next person to spam or hijack the thread with immature pics or comments will get a perm Ban!!!!
Whoa, where did that comment above come from?? =P Thanks mods, I appreciate it!
On that note, I would not recommend this on any phone other than the G2, as I have not personally tested it.
NOTES: This thread is not working in Tapatalk for some reason. Click here to open it in your browser. Also, this will not fix your phone's hinges, your nagging girlfriend, or world hunger. It is what it is.
If you perma-rooted with VISIONary r12, you only need to follow steps 5, and 7. All other steps can be omitted. If you would like to do this all manually, you can still use VISIONary r12, however, instead of using the "PERMANENT" option, use the "TEMPORARY" option, where applicable.
VISIONary r12 has been temporarily pulled.
Expect an update to work with VISIONary r14 soon!
Credit goes out to scotty2, and all of the wonderful folks at #G2ROOT! WE LOVE YOU! <3

You need these files:
hboot-eng.img
wpthis-OTA.ko
wpthis-pre-OTA.ko
MIRRORS:
http://bt.microcozm.net/vision-perm-root.zip
MD5s:
Code:
4ed6ac813dbea0ee263ba0f6dc288693 wpthis-OTA.ko
8ac8e7a331a199a48001c691e59b1b33 wpthis-pre-OTA.ko
7669ae12dc2faa10ae555a164980efd0 hboot-eng.img
Step 1
Firstly, run VISIONary to gain temp root
Step 2
Push the .ko file appropriate for your phone, and hboot-eng.img to /data/local/
Step 3
Open a terminal on your phone, or open an adb shell from your computer.
Step 4
Code:
$ su
# insmod /data/local/wpthis-[YOUR_VER].ko
It should return:
Code:
init_module 'wpthis-OTA.ko' failed (Function not implemented)
That is good.
Step 5
FINAL WARNING: THIS STEP COULD SEVERELY DAMAGE YOUR PHONE. USING THE INCORRECT FILE COULD CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE, MAKING YOUR PHONE NOTHING MORE THAN A BRICK.
That noted, if you would like S-OFF, go ahead and run this command in your terminal.
Code:
# dd if=/data/local/hboot-eng.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Step 6
Note: This step is not required if you have used VISIONary r12 to perma-root.
If VISIONary gives you issues about already being rooted here, go ahead and skip this step. After you complete the guide and reboot, go ahead and run VISIONary, and hit "ROOT NOW", wait a minute or two, and reboot again. At this point, you will be fully rooted.
Close your terminal. If you are in adb shell, disregard
Run VISIONary again, this will lock in root. But wait, you're not done yet.
Step 7
This step will lock in your perma-root and S-OFF. If you are using adb shell, you should still have your shell open. If you have used VISIONary r12 to perma-root, and are just wanting to apply S-OFF, your terminal should still be open. If you have just completed step 6, go ahead and reopen your terminal, and type su and press enter to regain root access.
Code:
# sync
Wait a minute or two, and reboot. Congratulations, you are S-OFF!! Go ahead and power off your phone, and hold down VOL DOWN and press POWER to boot up into your bootloader. Check the top line to confirm you have S-OFF. Enjoy!!
Thanks again, everybody!

This is most excellent. 3 cheers to all behind this
Edit: Sent $5 to Scotty2's beer fund

<3 #g2root
win.

Just a WARNING - screwing up this command:
Code:
# dd if=/data/local/hboot-eng.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
can turn your new phone into a very pretty paperweight.
Caution!

It should be noted in the post that this was a collaborative #g2root effort, primarily involving scotty2, tmzt, IntuitiveNipple but also many others!

To make this future proof just add the vesion that you want to downgrade too where we are putting "1.19.531.1".
This Can't in any way be used to gain permanant root
I was the guinea pig .
We should attempt something similar to root the device (unless I read it wrong and now I sound like a noob)

Go for it! Tell us how it turns out.
I wonder if we can use the Desire Z rom?
This in no way will help to perma root. It will alow you to downgrade if htc ads more security or fix an exploit in the future.

Saids data is to large when I try to load a signed Desire Z img.
This is so any exploits found with the older radio or ROM, can be used. So the OTA is "safe" essentially.

Hmmm, most likely we could since the process would stay the same. From what I've been reading, and listening, the misc partition has to be read/writable. Which means this will still work.
Indeed, if this could be used to flash an early test build that didn't have the copy-protection, you'd be off to the races...

[MOD][KE7] Gingerbread Stock 1% Battery - May 22nd

Opening this new thread, because the other one got way too crowded with many different files and modifications.
It's only a small mod and is based on pendos gingerbread battery modification, which he posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13659496&postcount=71
Thanks for providing them.
So this is basically a stock-battery-indicator with the percentage numbers added and the charging animation being smoother. No CRT effect, no other icons changed.

Note: THIS IS FOR KE7 ONLY!
Note 2: Backup the old file and activate USB-Debugging. Just in case ...
Install instructions
with ADB:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell stop
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb shell start
with root explorer:
Code:
1. copy new framework-res.apk to /system/
2. change file permissions to rw-r--r-- (should be the same as for all files in system/framework -> check it!)
3. move new framework-res.apk to /system/framework/ and replace the old one
4. reboot
Copy your old framework-res.apk before doing anything, so you can go back if something goes wrong. You might encounter 2 or 3 force closes when replacing the framework. Click them away, finish the process (if you havn't already) and reboot the device. Everything should be fine from there on.
For me it works. Thank you!!
did not work on me,could not install it,got KE7
possible to integrate the crt effect as well? Thanks..
Thanks man it worked for me
How to install it???
I run it from "Root Explorer" and it says "application not installed"...
Do i have to copy it over the original "framework-res"???
Great thread, the other one "Greener SystemUI.apk" got way too messy. This could be a lot easier thread to look out for, given that people keep this strictly for the battery mods.
Any chance we could get a step by step guide for installing these mods in the first post?

I use Root Explorer to do all of this. Make sure you give yourself R/W to /system/framework & don't use the " "'s.
1. Copy Chalid's file to MicroSD card (you don't have to copy to your MicroSD, you can copy to sdcard if you want)
2. go to /system/framework & rename "framework-res.apk" to "framework-res.apk.old" (don't panic if you get some FC for some running apps)
3. go to /sdcard/eternal_sd & move "framework-res.apk" to /system/framework (don't panic if you get some FC's .......)
4. reboot
5. enjoy
remember to change the permission's to mimic the original "framework-res.apk".
Hi, worked for me but lost all my contacts. It seems that this process removes the Google sync account. After re-syncing all is well. Thanks!
Can this also been made for KE2?
I wanted to try pendos tutorial using adb on my pc:
adb remount
adb shell stop
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
adb shell start
I've already copied my original framework-res.apk to sd card as backup. When I type adb devices it gives my serial number as expected, but when I type in adb remount it says operation not permitted.
I've already flashed ke7 and rooted using chainfires kernel which is all working without any problems. Any suggestions?

Without a valid framework-res.apk in /system/framework/, even for a couple of seconds you spend renaming the files, the google account syncs will be deleted. So better replace the file right from the beginning and backing up the old before that, instead of renaming it.
1) I suggest renaming der new one in .new first.
2) copy to /system/framework.
3) check/change permissions of .new
4) rename old one in .old
5) rename .new
ALexander
that way, the google account information will be deleted.
Ignore
101010
Works good. Thanks.
Please help ...
First of all: I am totally new in the world of Andriod.
I have not followed the instructions and now my SGS2 doesn't reboot. It got stuck on the Samsung Galaxy SII screen.
What have I done:
renamed original framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak
(I FORGOT to copy the new framework-res.apk to /system/framework )
reboot SGS2
it got stuck on first screen
What can I do now??? Can someone please help me out? Thx
Decided to buy root explorer and it worked perfectly! Thanks

[WIP] Reset Binary Counter

Please note that if you perform this procedure, you do it at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage!
For resetting binary counter :
In terminal emulator/adb shell, do this :
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0 bs=1 count=1 seek=3145732
Exclude $ & #.
Make sure that you issue the correct command as this is extremely risky and if done incorrectly, might result in a HARDBRICK.!!
I need someone to test if this method works on the s3 mini. This has been tested on GT-I9070. Please do this at your own risk.
If you feel my work worthwhile, please consider donating!
No takers? Seriously?
You guys can gain your warranty back using this! This works with tee!

wouldn't it be more safe to examine multiple mmcblk0 contents first before blindly trying to overwrite a byte in flash…
sry it just feels a bit blindheaded to do it that way… lazarosh has hopefully first made a backup of the partition before erasing the byte to recover the previous state as the flash counter was clearly not in that place on his device and he may have overwritten different data…

Nope doesn't work, it's probably in a different column/block not in 3145732.
But I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually, keep up the good work.
When do you think this problem solved?

Well. I cannot continue anymore! I don't have the device. Also, the method used here is pretty dangerous!
To get this to work, i will have to study the hex dumps of mmcblk0, by changing the binary counter 3-4 times.
So sorry. But this cannot be continued without a device!

So I am ready, is the Windows version ok for x32 and x64?
Will the Ubuntu install work from a CD/USB boot, assuming writable areas and internet connection?
Thanks so much for this. Very much appreciated.:good:
I didn't see any mention of it, but does this wipe your phone?
should this work for international version? :fingers-crossed:

[BTC Reward] Really need help rooting my Wileyfox Swift please.

$5 Bitcoin Reward to whoever helps me get this done.
Yes, I have followed olli's guide and I cannot make sense of any of it. Half of the stuff I did was missing out of his odd job of a "tutorial", not to insult him as he has contributed but to somebody like me, who has no ****ing clue its frustrating to follow broken English and missing steps. Here is what I have done.
Preparation
I have downloaded adb-setup, ran the program as an administrator.

I am aware there is a guide that already exists, it just skips too much of the vital information I need. I am not stupid, I am a comprehensive, experienced user on both linux and windows. I dont want to **** this phone up, I have some bad experiences with iPhones back in the day.
I need either a 1 to 1 talk through via Skype or for somebody to post here a step by step (Including everything, what buttons to press, when to plug in the USB cable) just a simple, step by step guide that does not skip half of the things I need or require me to hunt **** down when it could just be listed in the OP...
I am fairly certain this will take no longer than 10 minutes, and I will send you a $5 bounty in Bitcoin. I will be online for the next 2 hours ready to do this, let me know if you want to help me out.

The Official Recovery is here
https://dl.twrp.me/crackling/
You put your phone in bootloader mode
run fastboot devices -----make sure your phone is seen by fastboot
run fastboot flash recovery (name of twrp recover above).img -------------copy and paste works if you don't like typing
Place SuperSu.zip on the Phone, SD card or internal storage
Boot to recovery and navigate to SuperSu.zip and install it.
Hi @Jayke.
Which step are you stuck at?
Did you get the ADB interface to work? If not make sure that the debugging (adb) is enabled under Settings - Developer options.
Also just as robin0800 suggested get TWRP as your custom recovery so you can flash SuperSU from there. Also make sure to get the latest Super SU from http://www.supersu.com/download (the .zip-file that's flashable from recovery).
If you're still stuck just reply with a detailed explanation on which step you're stuck at and I'll try to help.
Just to say, SuperSU v2.79 didn't work for me on COS13. I used v2.78.
The 'official' SU is now available - for crackling you need the 64bit-arm:
https://download.lineageos.org/extras
[sorry - this is for 14.1]
