[Q] Max Volume Issue - not the usual one - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that sometimes the max volume of the ringer isn't what is normally the max volume.
I think there is something on the phone that is altering the volume, then when you exit that app, the phone thinks that the lower volume is now the maximum volume.
For example,
I boot the phone and volume is ok.
I run the FM radio, and lower the volume.
I then turn off the radio, and return the phone to max volume.
The max volume is now nowhere near where it used to be, and doesn't go back to normal until I do a reboot of the phone.
I'm not suggesting it is the radio doing this, its just an example, I need to try all my apps to see what might be doing it.
Anyone else experienced this? Maybe its an easy fix, or am doing something wrong myself.
Edited to add:
This is something to do with the radio. Phone on max volume, plugged in the headphones and launched the radio. Lowered the volume using the rocker. Unplugged the headphones and went back to the home screen. Tried increasing the volume and already as max, but much lower than it was before launching the radio.

I had a similar experience last week, the volume on the notifications was so low I could barely hear it sitting at my desk with the phone in front of me. But I rebooted and never saw the issue again. I do use the radio, so maybe it's related.

i to have knoticed this, ive turned the volume down for something then its also turned the ringtone volume down

I mailed support about it.
Also managed to crash the phone just by maxing out the ringer, plugging in the headphones, then lowering the ringer. The volume adjustment window just stayed on screen and didnt respond to pressing the rocker, even though I could see the sound profile widget changing in the background to vibrate and silent when i reached those points. Removing the headphones didnt do anything, with headphone icon still showing in notifcations bar.
Tried to reboot, but wouldn't even respond to that. Had to remove battery.

I have also experienced this issue. Being one of those who had the DHD from 18th October, I have noticed that the audio volume does indeed get affected when using the FM radio or the HTC Music app. Also Vplayer app caused this issue as well as actually 'crashing' my audio all together - sometimes after using Vplayer I had no audio at all unil I restarted.
I now solely use Car Tunes app for my audio and have had no problems at all. Also using Quick settings with everything turned up to Max I think the audio isnt too bad. Previously I thought there was a serious issue with audio, but Im starting to think it maybe just down to specific apps - I now use CoPilot also and have to turn the volume down as it so loud (in another thread I noted that SatNav was unusable because of not being able to hear anything)

Got a response from HTC, although it reads like a default 'do a hard reset' reply, which I'm not happy about doing.

What the hell is this problem now? Will problems about DHD not end one day?

I've had this problem once.. and come to think of it, it happened when I just got the phone, and I did use fm radio just to play around with it.. not another bug surely?

Also got this issue. Dont even need to lower the volume during radio playing. Just on/off radio and the main volume is "set" low. Quotes because the volume control didnt changed...
Reboot is working but its not the best solution :/

I'm having a similar problem.
Yesterday i putted my volume to zero while i was eating with my mom.
After increased it to max, the sound while typing an sms is very low.
Rebooting doesn't help, all volume settings are set to max, but the sms sound while typing is lower then it was before.
The tricks in this topic also couldn't solve the problem.
Sorry for my bad English

I know of this issue. Dolby/srs has been enabled on your phone. It should disable when you unplug your headphones but for done reason it doesn't always disable. It can be disabled manually but can't for the life of me remember the menu path for this.

i got the same problem today, had to put rockplayer into mute (lowest media volume) but then somehow (after several hours till i noticed) , notifications (sms, emails) went mute too
anyone found a solution to this yet ? cos this is annoying tbh

Why don't you use tasker to automatically set the volume to max after exiting said music applications? Should work as a short term fix anyway.

This issue happened with me as well. I set the volume to max when playing angry birds but noticed it was nowhere near as loud as i remember it being before. Rebooted the phone and fixed. This is a strange issue. I wonder when HTC will roll out a fix.

Hi All,
I had kind of a similar problem, i noticed that the keypad tones was very low and the screen lock 'click' was almost silent. However, sound settings were at Max.
I downloaded Quick Settings from Android Market and found that System Volume was at 2 of 7. I increased this to 7 of 7 and all is ok now.
Maybe this will work for some.

Volume controls dont work

<Rant> I loved the OneV when I got it, and I still like it but everyday seems to begin with a new bug.
First Lockscreen shortcuts, then after noticing the thread here, I checked my phone for lightleak and noticed my phone too had the problem but didnt make too much of it since it dodnt interfere too much in my use.
</Rant>
But now the Volume controls dont work. Works nowehere, Media, In call, Ringer volume everything is stuck at whatever level they were at.
When i press the button the screen shows as if the volume decreases, but actually there is no effect. Even if Mute media volume, music plays at full volume, my in call is stuck at mimum volume and I can hardly hear people.
Any known fixes?
P.S: Havent installed any audio apps, just using stock music player
BUMP anyone?
No problem with me....

You have the issue with volume from beginning or after some days of using? This can't be a hardware problem, try to restore factory settings...

[Q] Volume randomly jumps to 100% for a split second while watching videos?

This has happened to me more than once on various ROMs from CM9 to CM10.1 (I haven't used a stock ROM in a while): I'll be watching YouTube (or playing a Flash game - I'm not sure if it's restricted to Flash videos though) with the volume at the lowest setting or muted, and all of a sudden it blasts to full volume!
This is most likely to happen at night, when it's conveniently the most annoying. I hesitate to wear headphones now because I don't want to kill my ears - it seems louder than full volume, although that may just be because it's quiet otherwise. I'm using Volume+ at the moment, but from what I can tell the issue is still present without it. Unfortunately the jump is completely random, so pinpointing the cause hasn't been very easy.
Anyone else have this issue? Searching didn't turn up any similar-sounding threads, but I may not have used the right terms. I'd just like to know I'm not the only one...
While I'm no expert, i do have a few thoughts.
The first thing that came to mind was profiles. You mentioned that you've been using cm9/10, could you have set profiles with different volume settings to trigger at different hours of the day?
Also, are you certain you haven't accidentally held down any volume buttons? I've had multiple instances where i accidentally hold the volume button and my volume will go from 0 to 100% without showing or any of the volume levels in between.

Duh!
CM team put in code to recognize when you're watching pr0n and the volume does that to make you end your wicked ways. :good::laugh:
I was just listening to music with the phone on the floor and the volume jumped randomly halfway through the song, so it's definitely not an accidental button press.
I'm going to uninstall Volume+ and Voodoo sound (I wasn't using the latter, and the former was probably killing my poor speaker and my family's ears) and test it again, but I'm fairly certain the problem started before I installed either of them a while ago.
I'll check back if it happens again with no volume modification apps installed, which if my hunch is correct, should be fairly soon.

[Q] Music Volume Lower After Answering Call

I play music off my phone in the car. After I answer a call, the music resumes at a much lower volume, despite the fact that I haven't touched the volume on the phone or car. I have to press volume up 3 times and it doesn't go gradually up, but instantly from the low volume to the high it was at. Is there a setting to get the music volume to maintain? Using poweramp. Thanks
Anyone have a similar issue? I remember having it on the GNex as well but fixed it somehow. Cannot remember how, though. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I continue to experience this same problem on stock 4.1.2 ROM. I suspect it is a bug in the ROM. I don't know how to duplicate the problem because I have gotten calls and the volume was correctly restored. I've also tried making calls and the volume was correctly restored.
check all your sound setting and make sure that the volume is up on the system part of the sound menu...i had the same problem ...that seemed to fix it for me...

[Q] cm12 audio - sudden audio volume jumps

I think this is a problem across all g3 cm12 tons for d855 (can't vouch for other variants)
After about 60% volume on Bluetooth which is safe volume comfortable to listen to, however pressing volume up after this level it goes dead silent and fades in to over 100% volume which is deafaningly loud, have to reduce two levels of volume in order to stop the loud fade in.
Same also applies to the speaker, on alarms on 70% volumes it jumps to almost double the loudness, both become very very distorted anyone else getting this problem?
I'd normally do a bit more research but I'm working long hours this week and thought I'd make people aware if they haven't seen it.
Off topic note - what is up with XDA ads! XDA premium isn't loading so using the website, it just redirects without clicking any ads all the time doesn't even open in a new tab have to go back two or three pages, happens on all androidroms official or not
More issues..

I have the same issue when my Android Wear brings volume down on my phone when I speak a voice command.. When the volume come back instead of going back to the volume it was at it just increases volume of the music at a steady rate. Doesnt actually increase the setting volume but happens in the background. Touching volume control stops it and jumps back to the actual volume. Also happens when I use Google now.
If others can confirm it's fully consistent. Happens every time.

I didnt get a chance to test bluetooth again, but i noticed it happened on my alarm too, using timely it slowly gets louder, then all of the sudden fades to REALLY loud and distorted! (im hoping it wont blow the speaker)
I have the same Issue running CM12 on Note 4. Waiting for a fix.

Randomly Increasing Audio Volume

I don't know why this is, but it's frustrating beyond explanation: Every once in a while the volume of my device changes. This is not an "official" change, as I always have this thing at the lowest volume possible, but every once in a while after a reboot or just out of nowhere, that lowest volume most definitely becomes louder. I'm accustomed to a low volume, so for my notification and ringtone to suddenly be louder always startles the hell out of me.
I cannot figure out why this is, and I realize the number of things that could be causing this is dependent on what apps I have which are far too numerous to list, so I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and knows the solution.
Thank you all in advance
Cm12 has a setting in sounds and notification that gradually increases volume over time. If you're on sense there is a setting that increases the volume if the phone is in your pocket or turned face down.

Unfortunately this isn't it - I have "Pocket mode" and "Quiet ring on pickup" both unchecked (unrooted, stock). I also thought it might be somehow tied to Media volume, as the app I notice this primarily in is Google Hangouts (that's about the only sound-notification I get outside phone calls), but that's at a vol of 1 along with everything else.

I have no idea then. I had volume issue with hangouts in particular in the past but it was from the volume being to quiet. Maybe try a different ringtone for it. I'm not sure what else to suggest.
