Low res pictures on tiles.. - Windows Phone 7 General

Hi..
I just got a HTC HD7..
Just a quick questions about the pictures that I have assigned on the tiles..
For the pictures that I assigned on the tiles eg. Contacts, Me and Pictures tiles..
The pictures turn out to be low res..
Even the people tile also has low res pictures..
Is that normal?
Any workaround?

I noticed this too. I thought it was because I have my contacts synched from my Google account that did this.
I noticed that if I make a new contact and instead of using my Google account and set it to Windows Live, and add a picture, the quality of the contact tile picture seems a bit higher.

This is the same issue as what I've encountered using iPhone too. I suspect its because when you set a profile pic within Outlook, the picture is auto downsized to a lower resolution.
However, if you set the picture via iphone itself for example, it will store and continue to use the new higher res pic

I did try to assign the picture from my gallery.. The picture was high res for some time.. After that it reverted to low res..

i have seen the same in my mozart also.
Specially for incoming calls.
Even though I have added a new contact and assigned a pic to him using the pic captured from the 8 mp cam on Mozart (Which is pretty crisp and clear) when the contact calls me I see a low resolution pic coming in my screen..
Hope this is something MS would be able to sort out in their updates

Is there a way to increase the quality of the Facbook contact photos?

When using the dialer it looks like the phone is just increasing the size of low resolution photo that was synched to the contact.
Is there a way to increase the resolution so the photos can look better?
Is the problem with the contact photo resolution limit imposed by the way the contact cards were designed? I ask this because when browsing through your contacts the small thumbnail looks great, but when using the dialer it looks like the thumbnail the the required resolution and the large photo in the dialer is just a zoomed in version.
Maybe I'm not being clear but i think i got the point across.

I'd love to help, but you be a little more clearer on exactly what is going on?
oh sorry , here goes ive put some pictures from my pc to my wp7, when i go to pictures and try to change the background i select one of my own pics that i have transferred from my pic. the background changes but it looks a little blurry and not as sharp as it should be, the same then applies to the pictures tile, its no longer as sharp as it was.
I know exactly what you mean. I accidentally formatted my phone using Mac connect and deleted my original sample photos from WP7. To change the background photo of the live tile and to make it not blurry, you need to use an image with big dimensions, somewhere along the lines of 1920x1200 or better. The picture tile image can be in widescreen or fullscreen but fullscreen mode is the correct resoluytion.
for contacts tile google contacts produce low resolutions automatically. If you want a higher resolution just create a new contact under windows live and the contact photo you use will not appear pixelated.
I hope that helps. Also if you wouldnt mind, could you attach the photo of the white dandelions/field from the original sample photos that came preinstalled on your phone? I would love to reset my pictures tile tothat photo but can't find it anywhere and I don't feel like factory resetting my phone to get it back.
thanks
Can you plz post screen shot or some pic of the blurry tiles?
ok.. so basically.. in order to get a crisp and sharp picture to appear on the live tile... then it has to be a big sized picture?? why wont 480x800 work?? that's the dimension of the phone??
and also.. how do you set or choose which photo appears in the tile?? is there a way to just have it constantly changing?? i think that would be pretty cool
thanks for the info, ill try it out.
to change the picture of the photo tile, after you open it, slide to the pictures hub, press hold anywhere on the background and it will pop up with two menu items : change background and change it for me.
from there you can choose a photo
I do not know why the normal phone resolution doesn't look as clear. This is just from my experience.
*EDIT*
as you can see, the photo you attached for me has a higher resolution than the phone's 480x800.
When you copy a picture to the phone, it is resized to 720x540 by the phone. This happens if you use Zune, email it to yourself, or use Skydrive to store it. This will be why it doesn't look as good as it should in the background.
I had a discussion with WinPhoneSupport on twitter, and they told me that was the maximum resolution for pictures on the phone.
It's one of the first things I've found on WP7 that irritates me. Fortunately, it doesn't irritate me too much and I still love the phone . However, if pics are important to you, I can understand the frustrations.
Has anyone found a way around this? This is driving me crazy
It's actually idiotic policy to do that.

I wrote about this here: http://wpcentral.com/tip-get-high-res-photos-contacts-your-wp7-device
Basically, if you use Live, sync a high res photo to that linked account with your contact.
It's basically a Google thing--they downsize the photo. Microsoft Live does not. You can use both services, linked, for each contact. I did this for my Pinned contacts and they are all high rez and stay that way, thankfully.
Trust me, on Android, contact photos look just a crappy as they do when you sync Google to WP7.

This I'm aware of, I have moved all my contacts from Google to live. Since Live now offers exchange support, all is well
But here we are talking about the Picture tile (not the contacts)
If you edit the contact you can change the picture there. If you have linked your contact from different accounts (eg live, facebook) you can choose which picture to take for that contact. Usually there is one that is sharp. After that your Tile should have the crisp pic on it. I had blurry pics too when I synced the first time...

[Q] Low res contact photos workaround - will Facebook for Sense muller it up?

As we all know the unresolved low resolution contact photos bug still exists in Android, even after 2+ years. By this I mean if you sync your contacts with Google then you only get the 75x75 pixel contact photo show up when you call/get called by someone, all pixellated and horrible.
I found a workaround for this somewhere on XDA which works - create a new "phone" contact with a nice high res pic for each person, and then link it to your Google contact, selecting the high res picture as the default.
Unfortunately I didn't set up my Facebook for Sense yet. If I do this now, will the phone overwrite my preference for the "phone contact" picture with a Facebook picture? Meaning I would have to go through each contact again, selecting the "phone contact" pic? I don't have time to go through all these again, I'd rather not bother with Facebook for Sense...
I don't know for sure, since my Facebook for Sense is all setup, but I'm pretty sure it will overwrite it when you sync with it, yes. I changed some of my contact pictures from their Facebook pics to some other ones, but next time I sync'd Facebook it went back to the Facebook pics.
I got my DHD for Xmas, and the snafu with the photos is unbelievable.
Not only my phone WON'T remember that I have chosen a mobile/google photo for a contact, and instead reverts to fB, but also the fact that it uses a low-res pic is not simply a bug - it's idiotic. The funny thing is that for a while, at least for a specific contact, it kept a nice high-res photo...
Argh!

assigning a pic to a contact, different resolutions

if i assign a pic from the photoalbum it has a lower resolution than if i edit a contact and choose from the album. same pic and crop, of course. why? you can see the difference in the contacts widget. how to get hi res in first case?

I was wondering why no one has asked this. I have the same issue... so photo caller ID also looks horrible. I found when I assign a photo to a contact, it stays high-res for a bit and then becomes low-res. Anyone has a solution for this?
This is because when you sync your contacts to Google, it automatically reduces the resolution. Read http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4147 . Solution I found were to either stop contacts sync completely or to create an additional contact in phone memory, add a high quality photo and then link your Google contact with that new phone contact.

[Q] Pixelated profile pictures from camera

Hello,
I'm having an issue when setting a profile picture for my contacts. I took the picture using the One X's camera with the highest possible resolution settings. I then select a contact and choose to set a photo from the gallery. From there I set the (cropped) photo I just took. However if I now open the contact's profile, the picture is quite pixelated. This shouldn't be the case considering the high resolution original image.
How can I fix this? Many thanks.
