"Stock" headphones from box; one ear not working - Captivate Accessories

I was using the headphones (which imo, are the best I've ever used), and suddenly one of them cuts off, and jerks back, and now all the sound is gone.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Or do I buy another pair and which?

Probably a cut connection somewhere. A solder/tape job'd fix it if you can find the problem area. won't be pretty.

I've had this same problem with countless pairs of headphones...it's pretty much a loose wire somewhere right before the male end of the plug...if you're determined enough, you can strip the insulation off, solder the wires back together, and be on your merry way, or just go buy another pair of headphones.
if you like the ones that came with the phone, check out skullcandy. they are what I buy. They are cheap enough that when they start messing up from excessive use (I'm a student...headphones on all day except while in class) I just go buy a new pair

Why keep spending money of headphones that will just break after a couple months to a year? Just get a decent pair (PortaPros come to mind) and keep truckin. Lurk on Head-Fi.org for a couple days/weeks. You'll discover you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for decent sound quality. You could pay more for better, but I think I'd have a hard time convincing someone to buy a $250 pair of headphones for portable use.
I've had my PortaPros for almost three years before they gave me any problems. Then I paid ~$8 to get them replaced under warranty. Believe me, I beat the hell out of those things. Cable wrapped around the set, tossed around in a booksack for days, in a car for days, etc. And still they keep the tunes coming.
In all fairness, they are a bit "dark" so if that's not your bag, then carry on. But 90% of the people that have heard mine thought they were great.
If you decide to go Skullcandy anyway, don't waste your money and just get the Ink'd. Every other pair of Skullcandies in ears I've heard were obviously more expensive, and were actually WORSE!

I've considered buying more expensive headphones.......but 250 is a little excessive...I was more in the range up to $70.....
I have considered Skullcandy, but you're right, cost for durability is definitely important.

Are you looking for in ear headphones like the ones you had,or on ear headphones? A dude on Head-Fi has an EXCELLENT write up on models for every price range. Ill drop the link later on.

I hope this forum isn't one of those that hates links to other unrelated forums because this is a GREAT resource if you are in the IEM market.

What I need are good headphones that have the built in mic. Essentially I need a good hands-free setup.

NuForce NE7M or Klipsch S2m.
I know the S2m has an online mic and I think the ne7ms do as well.
I have yet to hear either but think you'd be happy with either though I think the Klipsch is a safer bet.
I don't use the phone part of my phone often enough to warrant getting a headset. :-D
All that said, I still suggest you go out and do.your own rezdearc. Music is something we all want to listen to differently. Characteristics I find appalling you may desire and vice versa.
For example I know that my 'pros are dark, but I absolutely love what they are.

All IEM/earbuds are inherently going to be more fragile. There are certainly more sturdy ones out there but they are of course more expensive. The ones packaged with any phone or MP3 player are super cheap (hence why they break so easily and their sound quality generally isn't that good).
A solid set of actual headphones can last much longer, however that's pretty bulky to always be carrying around for many people.
Anyway, it's impossible to make a recommendation without knowing your price range. We can throw out all kinds of brands and models all day that will be completely infeasible.
Head-Fi is a great resource as others above have mentioned but they tend to be for people looking far more for sound quality rather than price/durability.

I'm using shure isolation ones. E2 I think. Comfy. Treble is perfect. I think I want beat studios though cause, you know, they just sound AMMAZING.

Looking for Headphones w/ Mic for Samsung Vibrant

As much as I enjoy the stock heaphones shipped with my Vibrant, I want something a little better. Looking for some good inexpensive ($80 or less) headphones with a microphone.
If you all have any good reviews, testimonials or just suggestions for good headsets, please post here. I would really appreciate it and I'm sure plenty of people would want to know too.

Go bluetooth. I'll gladly recommend my Sony MW600. It's just a little receiver that you can plug your own headphones into. It has a mic, FM radio, and can pair up to three devices. I pretty much use it for anything, including listening to music on my computer. The sound is very good (almost indistinguishable from the 3.5mm jack), and it has volume and track controls which work with pretty much any player.
It's also super light and can go 8 hours of audio, prob a little less for voice comms; standby time is in days. In terms of power draw on the phone, I've noticed that leaving BT on drains about 2% total... which probably saves me power since I don't have to turn on the screen as much.
I got mine for about $50 on Amazon. It comes with its own earphones, but I opted to get a nicer pair (Audio Technica, ckm50a) with short cables. Total cost was under $90.
If you must go the wired route, I would suggest the Ultimate Ears Superfi 5vi. You can go more expensive, but this is probably the cheapest wired headset approaching audiophile quality.
you can get skullcandy headphones with the mic at T-Mobile.
I would say try the Skull Candy 50/50's. I have heard good things about them and thats what ill be purchasing soon. U can get them from radioshack or the direct website for more color choices.

Do the volume control's on the 50/50 work on the Vibrant?
Are there any wired headsets with controls other than the one button (hang-up, start/stop) that work well with the vibrant?

[Q] Best wired earbud headset?

I have a Sony Bluetooth earbud headset that is of excellent quality, so I am set on that front. The thing is, it only has six hours of battery life (as most BT headsets do) and often run it down when I'm listening to podcasts and audiobooks while pulling doubles at work. I had the earbuds that came with my Captivate, but they were kind of junky and, honestly, I put them through the washing machine one too many times.
I went on Newegg.com thinking I'd have an easy time choosing the optimal wired earbud headset, but there's a whole universe of them out there, now, and the price has come down on them so much I can't even use that as a benchmarch of quality, anymore.
Does anybody have any good suggestions for a wired earbud headset that has good to excellent sound quality and works particularly well with Android pnones/Samsung Captivate. My price ranges is 50 dollars or less.
Thanks!
I really like the stock ones that came with the Captivate. As a backup I also use the buds from my earlier Sony Ericsson.
Sorry my post was of no help :]
I use a pair of V-Moda headphones w/ mic from the Apple store back when I had an iPhone. The cable is wrapped in a material infused with Kevlar
I'll try to find a link for you
EDIT: Didn't see your price range. Mine were $80, but they may have gone down some? Idk. I'll find it anyway

I've been looking for a good durable set as well. Looked on amazon, and it seems that many many people have problems with that headset breaking constantly.
Sigh. I am checking accessories because I discovered my right earbud stopped working about 15 minutes ago

Disclaimer: I'm not really after audio quality. They're earbuds, after all. I just need them to be indestructible or, failing that, cheap enough to be replaced a couple times a year.
The weak points in most earbuds I've owned are the junctions between the miniplug and the cable or the cable and the earbuds. In fact, the supplied Samsung earbuds are pretty decent, except that the miniplug-cable connection wasn't designed to take any stress at all. Sheared that right off in just a week of pulling the phone in and out of my pocket.
To that end, there have been two products I've been pretty happy with:
If you can find them around (eBay), the "Zune Premium Headphones" have outlasted anything else I've ever had. The cable is wrapped in plastic, so it transmits some noise when rubbing against your clothes, but they're incredibly durable. I only stopped using mine because I wanted something with a microphone button, not because they broke.
What I'm currently using are the JLab J3M earbuds. Got them from Amazon for $25 or so. Cable appears to be wrapped like the Zune earbuds and then coated in a clear, rubbery plastic, which has worked out so far. Only had them for about four months, but holding up well. The headset button works reasonably well with Android (I use DroidShuffle to control everything, and Cubed as the actual music player.)

A case of YMMV... I have a pair of V Moda Vibes that I've worn for over 3000 miles of road cycling over the past year. Not a bit of a problem.
I actually have a pair of the ZAGGsmartbuds (yes, the same ZAGG that makes Invisible Shield) that I received as a gift. They are very sturdy (the site has a cool video of a Boston Terrier trying to tear one apart - that alone would sell it for me ) and the volume and button controls work on the Captivate as well. The cord is actually coated with the same material as Invisible Shield.
Sound quality is quite good (compared to some V-Modas and some high end Sony earbuds I had from before) and it retails for a shade under $50 (but I think you can easily find it online for much cheaper).
http://www.zagg.com/audio/smart-buds.php
I've tried lots of different earbuds and I think the stock ones are one of the best under $50. they may not have the most bass but the complete sound range is great, nice and smooth/clear.
$25 Skull Candy set does right by me. Killer sound and I can talk while driving. Covers the basics. Did I mention they sound killer? The sound is great and they sound awesome too.
Best Wired Headphone on the Market!
Skullcandy (Full Metal Jacket) FMJ. You can check out this products here: http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/all-products/headphones.html?limit=all&cat=6
but you can pick up brand new ones on ebay for $20-$40. They have an in-line mic, you can work the music player with a toggle on the wire, they they are LOUD and HIGH QUALITY music. Check them out, you would be disappointed.

That may be true, but they seem to have close to a 50/50 fail rate. Waaaay to high for me.
If you're going to buy skullcandy, don't get more than the inkd line. They arent great on the first place and it seems like the higher you go in the line up the worse they sound.
The ones I have have lasted for two or three years now.
They aren't the best thing ever SQ-wise, but they do isolate well enough, and that's important to me when riding to and from school/work.
Just my opinion.

I agree with this.
I use Sony's MDR-EX57LP/BLK. They are mostly noise canceling and I found mine at walmart for about $40. Great bass and ok highs.
Hippo Pearl if your after balanced and an all rounder. Got e'm for around $20. Best pair of earbuds I've had.
Swyped from my Froyo-ed Captivate.
ive got a set of meelectronics from newegg that have been awesome as far as sound goes, otherwise the mic has been questionable at best can't tell if its the rom or the headset itself. btw it was cheap as hell too 10 bucks or something.
I've had good luck with the skull candy full metal jackets but I think the ink'd sound slightly cleaner but the longest I have used them is two months before I catch them on something. If I don't need a mic I use Shure e2c's.

I've never had that problem. I run my wire through my shirt. Also helps to get rid of microphonics.
Im about to "upgrade" to a bluetooth set. Hopefully it will be on par with what im currently using. But im willing to sacrifice a little SQ for the peace of mind. I use an otterbox defender so the headphone jack is partially blocked off.
I just hope it isn't TOO bad because I really like my belt clip.

lol, beyond awful
I use a pair of Panasonic RP-HSC200K as my dedicated gym buds. They're the kind that wrap around your ear so they don't fall out and can resist my gross sweat. They're flexible and can take the abuse of throwing them into my gym bag with my shoes and gear (so far). I like that style because buds like the stock one and iPod ones I have kept popping out my ear when I jog/use the elliptical and get sweaty. They cost $60 and the sound is decent in my opinion. I wasn't looking for audiophile quality considering that I knew they would be abused and soaked in sweat, lol. I didn't want to get something that I would have to worry about.
The mic integration works fine and the button to pause/skip to next song, but the volume controls don't work with my Nexus. They do on iPhone and iPods.

I hear that. I carried these headphones over from when I used to have an iPhone 4 and yeah, it kind of sucks to lose that functionality.
Apparently it's difficult overall to find a pair where both volume up and down work on the in-line controls? Doesn't seem like a lot of models that are iPhone compatible work with Android as well. I dunno. I do have a pair of Skull Candy earbuds as well with mic and volume controls. I'll have to re-test it and see if it works.

If your willing to spend the $100 I HIGHLY recommend the Jaybird Freedom. They are very good. Sweat/water resistant, comfortable, bluetooth, and sound really great especially for blue tooth.
I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and I now use them more than my cans or Bose wired headset. They have nice all around sound and nice bass and I've honestly never heard blue tooth headset sound so good.
Only two drawbacks I've seen with them are the mic is a little choppy if your talking to someone (Focus on your workout, not talking ), and your going to need to wear an armband if your outside as the signal won't have walls to bounce off and will cut in and out if your phone is in your pocket.
Check them out:
http://www.amazon.com/Jaybird-Freed...8DOM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333998241&sr=8-1
Edit: These things are easily worth the $99 price tag on Amazon. Now that I've used them and broke them in, I'd gladly pay $200 for them.

Unfortunately at the moment I can not spend more than I guess 50 to 60 dollars on a pair. A) cause I need to replace my windshield and B) This will be probably only to listen to music while I work out I rarely ever since myself in situations where I am listening to music while I am out and about unless I am driving I would have it plugged into my stereo.
Those Jaybirds looks so legit I wish I could get them. I think I am going to have to get the skull candy one. God I wish they didn't have the ****ty logo. Looks so high schoolish. Ugh I hate that. I probably look like so punk kid that has no respect for their elders lol.

Well, the ones i have work fine (for music AND talk), but mine do look different

does anyone here use beyerdynamic dt 770's to listen to music on the one?

the reason i ask is i'm not sure which ones to get! first i want to know if i get the 80 ohm version do i need an amp to power them. or would be logical just to get the 32 ohm. i'm pretty sure i'm going to hear this(you should get atm50's) but i'm looking at the beyer's for awhile now. i would appreciate the anyone's input!
I use beyer custom one pro - not exactly the same but they're beyers, and they sound fantastic!

i thought about them for a choice also. do they get loud when you turn them up or do you need an amp? some people say they use an amp with your pro's but i guess that is what they prefer. either the dt770's or custom one pro's in white, don't know yet. i would like to hear them at a store before purchasing them you know
mine are white. so far I havent had to use an amp (there's a dedicated amp inside the HTC One already) but I dont have an amp anyway. I just liked the look of the one's and I'm not REALLY an audiophile even though I do appreciate good sound.
But check razordogaudio on ebay - I got mine from them. Authorized reseller, and they had buy it now / best offer and I got em brand new for $210

I'm still kicking myself in the arse fror selling my beas headphones that came with the Rezound, as a guy who NEVER listens to music, only trips and stuff, It's nice to have a decent pair, but not worth the price for someone like me who doesn't use them often.
Dr. Dre makes enough money, the quality we are getting on these headphones just drop and drop, the rezound was priced normal with the headphones, maybe they took a big loss of that, idk?
but I feel we should at least get an older ear style beats headphones, even the same ones that same with the Rezound I'd be very happy.
Beats is a main selling point on HTC device, I mean sh*t they have it branded on the back of the phone perm.
least they can do is hook us up with some quality beats headphones, ill even take refurbished ones, I don't care, but the ones it came with yes, they work, but considering this phone is 6 months old, AND now just getting it, they could have done something to help us out, price drop, anything, but no,
we are paying the same price that was paid half a year ago.

I still have mine. I would sell them if anyone wants them, if you want to buy them. Only reason I would sell them is for putting money towards my new pair. I love listening to music, main reason I bought the rezound. I have the normal ibeats also, but the right side has some play to get full sound when you hear it pop. Hey let me know if you are interested, I have a paypal account. Not going to sell them outrageous either. Tell me a decent price.

I don't know what is high price to you and high price to me
I can buy the headphones just as they came in the Rezound for under $40 brand new, new everything, pouch, headphones, all the ear buds etc.
So being that they are a bit old and used, and I don't know how many if if of the rubber ear piecees are left/used, I don't want the used ones.
I would pay $10-$15.
Again no disrespect if too low a price, but that's what I feel comfortable at.

Will do! And I will put these aside, because I have the other ibeats. If you reach 20 soon, I'll take it. Now just hoping we can achieve s-off : )

I have the 250 ohm DT770 Pros and my DNA pushes them pretty well. I think you'd be just fine with the 80 ohm version.

yeah, My wife "stole" mine and keeps dropping them. Now she's complaining that they are cutting out. Can't figure out why...
Personally, I mainly use some LG BT headphones that verizon screwed up and listed for free last year.
You can't go wrong with either. I would go with the 80ohm just because you should future proof your purchase as much as you can.
And ultimately you'll still want to get an amp, however make sure you get at DAC/AMP combo or have a small usb powered DAC. The reasoning is if you don't have an external DAC all your amp is doing as amplifying an already amplified sound because the phone is already doing all of that. And as good as they sound regularly, once you go amped it'll never be the same

Syllable Bluetooth wireless headset

Finally after 20 years of not running (was a previous XC runner) I started running again this year. I've been through a couple of pairs of bluetooth wireless headphones already. The thing that gets me is the pricing on most of them. I need a headset that plays music while running (and voice coaching for times) and doesn't find itself hanging off my chest or sliding down my shirt. I can't keep stopping to pull them back up. I've had expensive ones like the jaybird X2's and while they are a good headset they are heavy and fall out easily and start banging around until i stop and adjust them. They are also 7x's the price of these Syllables.
The thing I like about these besides the price is that I don't have to jam them into my ears just to keep them on me. The clip over the ear while not entirely fashionable is very practical. You won't lose these. They won't fall off you. They won't annoy you with one side hanging off. The weight of the controls is on par with other units i've tried and is mainly due to the battery being in their instead of the actual ear buds. Now I don't know how many people reading this review have given much thought to this.. but I really don't want to shove a lithium battery into my ear EVER. Water proof or not the risk is there. Thankfully these don't have the battery in the ear buds.
I'm writing this review because when I initially started out looking for a pair of headset I thought I had to pay a lot of money to have a good running headset. There's a million smaller brand headsets out there and it's difficult to take a gamble on each one. This company is responsive, their packaging is what you would expect from a major brand purchased at a retail location and they keep improving their products based on customer feedback. They DO read and respond to their reviews on here ( I did my research here first and noted that they have worked with quite a few customers to make sure you are happy). For $22.99, what else can you ask for ? I could have had seven different pairs of these for the amount one of my previous headsets cost.

Just hoping my wife doesn't ever figure out how much my Jaybird X2's cost me now...
