[Q] Sense resets after exiting apps, fix? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'll apologise now if people have already enquired about this.
Sense keeps resetting every time I exit an app and it's really getting on my nerves. I have S-OFF and Clockwork Recovery (Paul O'Brien), plus Root (VISIONary r13 - not that I get perm root, but temp works sometimes).
I may have just answered my own question, and if so, does anyone have any ideas how to stop it happening?
Thanks in advance!
Alex P
EDIT: Nevermind - I think it was the auto syncing draining memory or something. Slows the phone down to a halt, too.

If you have Spare Parts installed, check "Activity/Process Management" is set to Normal. If this is set to Aggressive you will get the same behaviour you described above.

HTC Desire Rebooting on its own

Hey I've had the HTC Desire for around 2 weeks now and its been awesome, well until these last couple of days. The phone for some reason keeps on rebooting on its own randomly and about 10 minutes ago it shutdown and would not power back on :S. I had to remove the battery, place it back and then it powered up (after pressing the power button).
I have not rooted the desire ... anyone know of any apps which may be causing this issue? or Any solutions for this issue?
Thanks
there are too many apps to mention which could be doing this to compatibility issues
you tell us, what apps have you installed? and more importantly which apps have you installed recently?
is your desire still rebooting now that you've taken the battery out and put it back in? or is it working now?
Have a look at this thread ?

i am familiar with that thread
although he didn't mention it was an internet/apn issue
i don't suppose you've installed juice defender?
so recently installed apps are:
Dropbox
Spark
Light Racer 3D Basic
HTC_IME mod (Atari version of the keyboard)
AndAppStore
Astro File Manager
AppInstaller
AppMonster
BatteryTimeLite
Beautiful Silence Widgets
Gigbox
JuicePlotter, JuiceDefender and Ultimate Juice
Flashlight
Soccer Livescores
PicSay
Calorie Counter
Advanced Task killer
Fring
Those are the apps i've installed since may 1st.
It's working atm but it has rebooted after i have removed the battery in the las couple of days. Its the first time it wouldn't boot back. Thanks

on another thread the issue was caused by juice defender changing the apn and then not changing it back but this was because it was uninstalled, oddly enough it was this causing reboot cycles on the desire
with advanced task killer it is very likely that juice defender changed the apn and then before it could change it back was killed by a.t.k
would recommend uninstalling atk anyway as it has been proven to cause problems. try this and then see if the problem persists.
Alright i've uninstalled ATK. Hope this fixes the issue (i'll post up an update on the situation tomorrow). Any other task manager apps you would recommend or just not use one?

i just wouldn't use one, this has been explained in more detail but i'll try to explain
android manages memory more efficiently, if an application is launched, it will stay in memory until the memory is needed for something else, then android will close this application and give the memory to the new one.
if say for example you force close the browser, it could have been linked to google maps, the news widget, friend stream etc, and once the browser is closed by the task killer, the other applications will re-open it in order to complete what they are doing, this will drain a large amount of battery.
correct me if i'm wrong
keep us updated if it doesn't work then try the fixes i posted on the other thread posted above

Yea i have read about that a few times and i should know better hehe. Was trying to save on battery life but juice defender and ultimate juice should be more efficient in that respect. I will post an update tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully its a positive update
Right so the desire hasn't rebooted on me since installing advanced task manager (not that I've noticed anyway). The only thing that happens is that it froze up on me once and I needed to remove the battery for it to reboot... But other than that no other issues so maybe it was atk doing the damage.
Sent from my HTC Desire just for good measure
right so it was fine but a couple of hours after posting the update it reboot itself and again this morning... seems like its going to have to be a hard reset... any last tips that might help before i so this?
I read the thread that was posted earlier but that seems to be an error with hanging up calls and apn issues. I don't use apn and it does if randomly but thanks for trying to help.

mine has been rebooting a lot, I've narrowed it down to the thing overheating, phoned HTC and they suggest I get it swapped. Does yours reboot more often when it is warm? eg. gps&wifi on, or when its on charge?
yea it seems too. even while playing games.
I'll send HTC an email and see is they reccomend I do the same.

I installed Taskiller last night, then HTC Desire started playing up, the screen froze, I couldn't do anything or even switch off using power button. I ended up taking the battery out to reset it. On firing up it just sorta went into a loop rebooting on reaching the homepage. After a few attempts I manage to get Appremover working, I removed taskiller and phone is now behaving itself again.
Obvious to me what the culprit was.
It was a worrying few moments as the phone is only a week old.

yep Ive stopped using task killers. they seem to be causing phones to misbehave. android's native memory management seems to work well anyways so no need for any kind of task killer/management app.

Rigjt, so after emailing HTC and them helping me I find that the issue was being caused by a third party app. Took me the best part of 2 hours but I finally found the culprit.
Right so the app causing the problem for me was beautiful silence widgets, which is a shame as they are great widgets (emailed the developer so they might release a fix for it).
The testing process was making a list of all the apps I had installed on the my desire. Then installing a few at a time, I would reboot the phone into safe mode. Which ever app causes it to reboot almost instantly I guess was causing the issue.
Finally my desire seems to be functioning properly. Fingers crossed that I don't jynx it.

mine reboots when using gprs/Wifi everything else its fine
Problem is when it does reboot it gets to the main screen and reboots again unless im quick enough to get to settings and deactivate gprs/Wifi
Uninstalled advanced task killer now have used gprs for a small amount of time since and no reboots so hopefully its fixed
Mine used to reboot itself while using 3g or WiFi, but the problem seems to have gone (hopefully) after I disabled the Background Data in the sync settings. Looks like it's some application trying to update itself like weather widget or something... Now it's just a process of elimination I guess...

Good luck and I hope you don't have too many third party apps. It's a pain but its worth it in the end to have your phone working properly.
If you have any task killers I recommend staring with does. They seem to cause a lot of issues on the desire.

911! need help something wrong

k i read about an app called spare parts on here so i figured hey i'll try it out. i did saw what extra setting were there and decided i wasn't gonna use it didn't even change any settings.
after opening the app and then pressing home something wierd happened i saw a white screen with HTC in green in the center for about 3-5 seconds my backround with a loading pop-up and nothing else for about another 3-5 seconds. this is happening every time i press the home button or exit out of an app. it's getting infuriating, i'm also getting wicked bad lagg in sense and lot's of hang up's and force closes. also wicked bad battery life. i don't know what to do to fix it.
i have the OTA and rooted last night with unrevoked method, this morning is when i tried the app around 10 or 11 not sure last couple days is a blur.
can anyone help, how can i restore what i had previously, do i have to do a full wipe.

get used to it if you intend to use sense, the screen you speak of is sort of like the htc sense/rosie intro. If you dont like it you can go vanilla and use another launcher, like adw froyo, launcherpro, or even the extra launcher thats included....
Sounds like you enabled aggressive handling of apps. Can you get in there to turn it off?

Or just do a factory reset.
also, you are experiencing some isolated problems which leads me to beleive the issue is software related rather than hardware.I have experienced NOT ONE of the issues you speak of. Make sure you update prl. I can vouch for that one. My data was 90% broken till i did. Also try and wipe data, that would prolly fix everything as well.....FYI, i cannot gurantee the problem lies with your hardware OR software. Thats just my diagnosis. Good luck

Heh...I did that once on my hero. I know the feeling.
some versions of spare parts come with a launcher. the problem is that when you press the home button now, it's trying to goof with /system, which is forcing the reboot. even though you may be rooted, you don't have rw privileges in /system while messing with android.
you may be able to get away with accessing /system and erasing your goofy installed spare parts app. you'll have to do that through adb shell, and the custom recovery. do a search for 'remove apps', you should find it easily enough. i think the thread was moved from dev to general, or q and a.
anything that will call a write to /system (i.e. a rooted app that needs access to it to work right) has the potential to cause the phone to reboot. when i installed adfree, it had the same effect. trying to install hosts (which write to /system/etc) caused a reboot. i had to install hosts through recovery with a push after remount.
hope that helps
Hmm I installed autokiller and it appears to work doesn't mess with anything that is
I really dunno a way of testing that its actually working though if you where looking for a way to manage memory
I was using a task killer but read up on stuff and turned it off just keeping it in case I need it for something that wont close and the phone is running great and battery life keeps getting better and better.

autokiller
People you need to be careful with autokillers!
Make sure that you are not closing down sense items.
Put anything that says htc or sense on ignore.
If not you are shutting down parts of sense. Then sense has to reboot. Witch is why you see the white screen with the htc logo in the middle.

Bootloops caused by GPS

It's been about a month i'm having this problem. Sometimes when using apps that require gps, the phone reboots itself, and then it gets stuck in a bootloop. Pulling off the battery and restarting does not help. I only have to keep it off for some minutes, and then restarting. Seems like it needs to "cool down". The phone worked flawlessly for a year. Do you think it may be a hardware/overheating issue? I read about many users complaining about it
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Rooted and running a custom ROM?
Is it the same app that causes the issue?
Sounds like an overheat issue.
You could install an app that checks temperature. Anything higher than 45, could be an issue.
Yes, rooted and s-off with cm7. Different apps caused the issue: maps, facebook, browser. I ll try checking temperatures. Thanks for the advice
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
if it vibrate after reboot then it is the pv1 version
whit has a lot of problems an they are cost from the cpu overheading
so that is a mainboard problem
Yes, my device is a pvt1, and yes, it does vibrate again before rebooting when it's stuck in a bootloop. I'll send it to RMA asap. I hope it won't take much time!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Just be sure you flash it back to stock so it kills the root,
Back-up all contacts and such, delete the fotos after copying.
i have the same kinda issues but they are caused when i use wifi or play a game while the phone is on charging..its getting quite annoying now as now i dont use it while its charging. feels like a crappy phone now. (

[Q] random reboots

I have slide that random reboots like once a day for no apperant reason . Beed doing it since cm6.1.1 and now I'm on cm7.1 so would like to know what mightt be wrong... info : rom- cm7.1 / hotboot- 0.52 / latest radio / s-on .. if anyone can help I'm open ears

Any one with info on this your insight will be very helpful
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
can you give us some more info? like whether your phone's overclocked? to what frequency? what apps were running? etc...
Well I had setcpu on the cm 6:1:1 and clocked 768 I beleave it would run right then it would reboot like 2 times a day so I took of the oc and set cpu and the reboots were now random like once a day or one at all .. so jumped to cm 7:1 everything is good so I set the built in oc to 768 and it was fine till like with in a few hours it would reboot again reboots are random but like once or twice a day so removed oc and back to the stock and only once a day on none at all ... apps that I use the most and leave runinf facebook, voice, talk , sd-booster at bootup set at 1024, music most of the time, also advanced task manager by rechild, ... if more specific info is needed I'm be glad to give to help me get closer to solve the problem .. thanx
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
how about battery temperature? how hot does it get when you're using/not using the phone? also, by randomly reboot, does it reboot when you're using the phone or just whenever it wants?
Battery doesn't heat up at all so normal temp ... by randomly I mean when it wants.. it in the pocket and u just feel the buzz of the reboot .. again no oc and just like 3 apps running at most also have cache clener ng runing at 12hour intervolts ... also ran permistion fix threw rom manager but not sure if the fix will stick since its s-on
Edit : forgot to say wifi alway on even when sleep since the phone does not have a data plane
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
hm... idk but perhaps it's the wifi that's causing those reboots. then again, if you don't have data plan, not using wifi will just turn your phone into paper weight.
Would having it s-on be a issue in any way?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Not at all, I have S-ON and only have reboot problem occasionally when I use wifi, battery gets too hot, or something.
Oh ok ... so would their be a fix for the wifi cuz this is getting annoying I have reflashed like 5 times in hopes it was a bad flash.. and don't really see a big library of roms that ain't sense roms ...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I have had this issue with CM7 as well. Some nightlies are better than others.
To reproduce just keep toggling your wifi. Eventually the phone will reboot. I use to see "kernel panic" messages in the logcat file but the last time I captured logcat for this issue I did not see any message about a kernel panic.
Where would we post a bug for this?

I have not tried the WIFI fix. I would be curious if other can get the reboot to happen by toggling WIFI repeatedly.

Random reboots after 6.0.1 update?

I used the OK1 tar through ODIN, then did a factory reset then took the 6.0.1 update. Yesterday I got probably 2 random reboots and now this morning I have had 4 one after another probably 5 minutes apart from each other. I am using the I heart radio app to listen to a local radio show and the phone keeps rebooting. I thought maybe it was the app causing this so I uninstalled and reinstalled it and the phone keeps rebooting. I recently purchased a replacement Anker battery and have been using it for a week now with no issues. Anyone have something similar like this happening? Anyway to fix this besides the obvious wipe everything clean and try again?
EDIT: It's the app, others are reporting the same issue with newer phones running Marshmallow.
Same problem. Sprint is getting me a replacement

Samsung Note 4 reboots randomly in IHeart app
Mine has shut down automatically when listening to IHeart App, but not with other apps, so I assume it's that app that is causing it. I did uninstall & reinstall app. Did not help. I cleared system cache. Did not help. I initially did soft reboot with battery out and in after 10 seconds. Did not help. I have not contacted sprint yet, but that is my next option. Rooted? Are you seeing a pop-up for the reboot (prompt)? Screenshots or logs?
How did you upgrade to marshmallow? What update are you on? What ROM are you running? Custom kernel? If rooted stock with custom kernel, have you fully removed ItsOn and Knox? Did you wipe or factory reset? Include your steps to get an idea of what is causing the reboot issue.
(If stock un-rooted, you may have some residual data from Lollipop. If rooted with custom kernel, you may have files from ItsOn or Knox causing issues. Basically, un-rooted and rooted have their own set of concerns. Need more info to offer suggestions.)

Not rooted.
Best description I can give is that at night when my nighclock is on. ...
the light on back and menu button will come on...
simultaneously the my note edge message will flash on the edge replacing the night clock for a few seconds (this is the background soft reset I think)...
the phone is not functional for these few seconds ie if i press a button to wake screen up then it will wait and hi locker won't let fingerprint work after this happens.
Rinse and repeat every few minutes.

Not an answer but how many of these applications you mention are third party applications?
Typically, lock-screen is only available a few seconds and screen is forced off; deep sleep may eventually occur but you have only a small amount of control to prevent deep sleep; that's usually a good thing. These apps may not be remaining fully functional when conflict results in screen going off unexpectedly or deep sleep trying to save your battery kicks in.
Dunno what compatibility is expected with multiple apps active while trying to keep lock-screen on or wake frequently? My use of lock-screen apps is limited to my third party alarm. I'm happy that it wakes to alarm; I can snooze and allow screen to go off quickly and wake for snooze until I dismiss the alarm (without having to unlock screen). That's about all I'm familiar with lock-screen applications.
My only suggestion would be to try to limit the third party apps used in lock-screen mode to find the maximum compatibility. Dunno, if those are third party applications conflicting, it's just a guess.
Maybe one or more of these applications aren't fully compatible with marshmallow?
On the subject of waking phone being slow, I think it was reported by non rooted users that factory reset cured that for some users. It's possible that if phone wasn't factory reset coming to Marshmallow from Lollipop, that factory resetting now would help.
