Using Clockwork Recovery (check development forums), and depending on the flashing instructions, I usually:
save the rom to Sdcard/
boot into clockwork
backup and restore > backup (makes a full backup)
Wipe Data, (clear cache if they tell you to),
apply zip (rom) from SD
then back to Backup and Restore > advanced > select your backup > restore Data only.
Then reboot, and you should be good to go with your saved Angry Birds game

Mybackup pro worked like a charm.

Mybackup works well but you on't want to backup and restore data if you frequently switch roms/kernels. So if it's just the apk you are trying to save then astro more than gets the job done.

Lol, that's what I get for not paying attention to the op.

Titanium Backup Pro will restore your backup with one click. It has saved countless hours from switching ROMS all the time. It is well worth it to get the paid app because you can let it start restoring and walk away. The free app requires you to click "Yes" to restore each app, one at a time.
I also use the back up and restore feature of LauncherPro so I don't have to keep redoing my home screen setups.
Once you have these two apps in play you don't have to be shy about trying as many different ROMs as possible.

Is APK Batch Installer, [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531880 ], a better option ?
Or, in the end all data restoring is not a good idea if switching between android versions?

All data restorations can cause problems, not just TB.

You can't really do that, it'd restore system data as well. Use titanium backup or mybackup root from the market to back up your apps, and then restore when you reflash.
thanks man you always answer me haha

that's what I use for my app backups, it provides more functionality than the free version of Titanium backup

I'll have to check this one out, I wasn't a huge fan of Titanium's interface personally.
I actually had a bad experience with that app I linked. It backs up apps fine, but when I restored them after flashing something, half the apps just force closed. I had to restore the APK's without the data and re set everything up, pissed me off. It may not happen to you, just be warned.
Im stuck after doing a Titanium restore

[Q] backup /restore

Is there a way to create a flashable zip to reinstall all my apps in one swoop. Currently when I restore from a titanium backup I have to press install on each app which takes quite sometime just curious if there was a quicker and more effective way to restore apps + data

The full version of titanium backup does all the installs with one click. Well worth the $6.XX.

Also...I recommend you only restore app data....system data always seems to mess things up for me.

I thought he was talking about having to hit accept from the market for every app. Looking back though it can be for either or, but since he had backups I'd like to hope he batched them lol.
If you were talking about restoring them all (Not the install each individual from market popup) you can go to:
Backup/Restore > hit menu > Batch > Run restore all apps,

It does it either way. The only difference is if you're on the free version, you have to manually install it, it'll go app, press to install, app, press to install, until it does all of them. On the paid version, it does all of them, without you accepting each time.
Paid version of Titanium is the best money I've spent on my Evo yet (followed closely by Root Explorer). Sooooo worth it for that feature.

Whats is a general guide when changing ROMs?

Hey
Whats a "general guide" when changing ROMS? I Have titanium backup installed on my Android. I wouldnt like to go thru configuring everything again and most importantly would like to keep my applications, settings, sync, calanadar, contacts, messages, etc....
These are the steps that I usually take when flashing a new rom.
1. NANDroid backup of the current running ROM
2. Complete flash (Data, Davlik, Battery, Cache)
3. Flash new ROM and boot
4. Go through the configuration screens (if any) and land on the homescreen
5. Perform a complete reboot (no fastboot from HTC, make sure it's a complete shut down and reboot)
6. Sync contacts and calendar from Gmail
7. Sync Facebook (if applicable)
8. Redownload apps and reconfigure
I am not a fan of Titanium for restoring settings and configuration if going to another dev or another ROM. It's fine if you are reflashing the same ROM, but I find stories of people who have tried to restore their configuration settings with Titanium and have headaches. Better to just take the time to reconfigure manually than to cut corners. I do, however, use Titanium to give me a good and complete list of the apps I have installed so that I can go and redownload them from market.
Have fun!
I still think its a waste of time to do a nandroid before every flash..
Nandroid the original stock(duh)
If you are on a rom u like nandroid before trying another
But if you don't like the rom and are going to flash something else then what's the point to back it up? Plus they will start filling up your sd card

You back it up incase the new rom does not work, so you have something to fall back to! I only keep my backups for a day then there deleted (Apart from the stock rom)

Well, my belief is that you should always backup before flashing just so you can always get back where you started. I can see your point if you use a rom for just a few hours and then go to something else, but anything more than that... It's only a few minutes wait.

Yep, totally agree. Also, I only keep 1 nandroid or so on my SD, and move others to my PC.

I use titanium backup (free version) and have never had a problem. Just backup your apps and there is your list when you flash a new rom and redownload titanium. Then you can choose which apps you want to reload by choosing "batch" which makes it easier to reinstall all the apps quickly.

Seems like a waste of time till you have a botched flash. It takes 5 min to backup, and saves you a TON of time if something messes up.
For OP:
1) Go to Titanium Backup, backup all apps (not system data, unless moving from one ROM to a fresh version of the same ROM).
2) Enter recovery
3) Make Nandroid backup. It will automatically be given a date and generic name (rename when you get back into ROM Manager)
4) Wipe cache/dalvik data/Factory reset
5) Flash new ROM, applicable kernels you want, etc.
6) Boot, install TB, restore apps (NOT system data!)
7) Fix permissions with ROM Manager, Reboot, etc. as the ROM requires.
Like I said, the only way you can keep your settings, etc. is if you're backing up from a ROM and returning to the same ROM. Don't try to backup system data from a Sense build and restoring it to an AOSP build. Just gonna have to deal with reconfiguring your system it'll save you hassles of incompatibility. Contacts should be syncing to your main Gmail account, so once you add that to the new ROM everything will be imported back. As far as saving SMS and MMS, there are different apps for that.

i want to switch a rom please help

so i have calk vs. 2.5 and i want unnamed rom with all my app's. so when i go into recovery do i need to format all data or can i just instal the rom ??? and ik u can use titanium backup but in titanium backup is there a button restore all backed up apps? thanks!
In order to flash a completely different ROM, you need to wipe data, which will erase your current ROM and apps. You will need to use Titanium Backup to restore your apps after formatting and flashing the new ROM.
I think (not positive) TB has a batch option to restore all user apps.

Back up your apps on the current rom you are running. Use Titanium back up from the market. I usually wipe data and then back up the app. Go down the list until you got all the ones you wanted.
When you flash the new rom, flash it normally as you would going to any new rom. I use Calkulin's FORMAT ALL zip folder. It's easiest. And then flash new rom and reboot system. After you let the rom settle in for a good while, I usually reboot the phone. Then when you start setting up on the new rom, download Titanium back up again from the market. Once it's on your phone, go into the app and all the apps you backed up should be at the bottom. I usually just restore the app not the data with it.
Try not to restore system apps + data because it can cause problems when switching between ROMS.

Yes. Click menu then batch but it only works with the paid version of TB. I've had plenty of problems restoring apps and user data with TB on a new Rom. Yes it's quick and easy but in my opinion it's worth the time to reinstall everything you can fresh from the market.
I've always found switching roms a good time to clear out unneeded apps, just select the ones I really use and forget the rest.

Agree with this sentiment. Connected to Wi-Fi and take 10 minutes to fresh install everything so you know you aren't getting any of the conflicts that can arise using restored apps from different firmware.

[Q] Restoring everything from my Backup?

Is there any app that can restore all apps+data where I don't need to re-download and re-organize my apps all over again? I came from iOS and iTunes pretty much restores my phone and all the apps exactly the way I had it if I were to switch to a new iOS device. I was hoping android could do the same. For example I have apps in folders but when I keep flashing roms and I try to restore my backups I never get all my apps restored and I even have to download lots of apps all over again. I have the paid Titanium Backup Pro, MyBackUp Pro, Rom ToolBox Pro and I've used TWRP.
All of those apps will do that. I have both titanium and rom toolbox. I prefer titanium. It's fast and let's me backup and restore sms/mms too

I use Titanium Pro to batch backup then restore APPS and APP Data. Works great with about 100 or so apps I have on my device.
Then only SYSTEM data I restore is call logs/messages.
Sorry I wasn't clear. I am saying that those apps that I have paid for I have also used and not a single one will do a mirror restore after I flash a rom. Even if I go back to stock rom and restore I still have to download old apps and almost always have to remake every page and folder. What I am asking is if there is an app or program like iTunes that can do a mirror restore where all the hard work doesn't have to be repeated every time I flash a new rom?

Some launchers (I use Nova) have a backup/restore for your layout so you don't have to keep redoing it. Is that what you mean? Placement of your widgets, folders, and apps and such?
I use titanium backup and it restores everything for me. After flashing, download titanium and run batch restore. Mine even sets up nova how I had it. Titanium works, I use it almost every day. I flash alot and only clean flash. I can have my phone all set up in like ten minutes.
