Bookmark widget - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

I was using my friends evo and he had a really cool bookmark widget ( in my opinion anyway ). From what I understand it comes with htc sense. Is there any way I could get it on my G2 ? Sorry for the android noobiness as I have only owned the G2 for 3 days.

So after doing some reading it seems I can only do this by rooting my phone. My new question is if I perm root my phone does that prevent me from getiing all future updates ? My next question is is there something like the sense bookmark widget that I can get without rooting my phone ? My android noobness is scaring me a little to attempt rooting.

Try Launcher Pro and get the "plus" version, it has widgets much liek Sense UI on the Evo.

Okay I'll give it a shot. Thanks

Simple question

So excuse me for my ignorance and thanks for any generous answers. I've been hearing alot about the new Fresh ROM that offers awesome battery life so I was thinking about rooting my phone to get it. Anyhow will the that one click root give me the end result for the manual guide that is already for rooting the Froyo evo? So I could use fresh. Just a simple yay or nay question. No need to flame.

Are you asking about Unrevoked 3? I would go with that when it comes back online. Much simpler than going through the whole downgrade process. Worst case scenario, it doesn't work and you have to do it the long way. Either way will give you the same things in the end. Full root.

Depends on which version of android you are running 2.1 or 2.2?
Goto About phone in the settings and then software...
Yes. Unrevoked 3.2 should work. If you have issues after installing the ROM such as random reboots or bootloops, I would suggest completing Toast's Part 2 of How to Root Guide to be sure the nand is completely unlocked. Some ROMs need this step, in particular the engineering HBOOT (0.76.2000).

I'm running android 2.2. And thank you guys for not flaming on me. I really do appreciate the responses.

If you have a Tmobile G2 use this guide (read and follow it carefully). http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Introduction
If you have a Desire Z with 1.72 ROM, you cant use the guide in that link.

Dude...super easy....well maybe not, but if you are coming from a nexus one, I reckon you may now a thing or two on how android systems work...you shouldn't have any issues.....the guides are pretty good. Go for full root so that you gain control over radio and such.
Good luck, its fun rooting these things!

+1. 'Tis the best way to do it.
Does visionary work because I want one click and a way to unroot cause I have a contract with a protection thing and I don't want to void it but I want access to the system for boot animations and to use vault to hide twitter and other apps I don't want.

The devs need to do two things : 1. to find a way to get the root privilege so 2. to turn off write-protection of the internal sd so flashing the CWM recovery image and custom roms is possible.
There used to be one or some kernel vulnerabilities to achieve these. They found some methods to get a root privilege and also forced the Linux kernel to load a kernel module to turn off write protection. Now these wouldn't work any more as the stock update fixed these security issues.
The scenario for iOS is the same too. IPad2 jailbreaking is nowhere to see either. It is a different issue, but the morale behind these is if the vendors don't support JB in iOS or rooting in Android , the future of JB or Rooting may be gloomy.
Though HTC announced its hboot unlocking, I still doubt if write-protection can be turned off. My next Android phone could be Nexus series, 'cos Google Phone was/is/will be always open, if Google doesn't change the policy.

[Q] Unlocked and root?

well i recently got a g2. it is currently unlocked but i want to get it rooted too. will the rooting affect the status of it being unlocked? it is tmobile branded so i am guessing it will unlocked by typing in a special code? thanks. also how can i root the phone? just send me a link. i am experienced in rooting as i have a rooted epic 4g and also my girlfriend galaxy 2.
No rooting and unlocking are two seperate things and don't affect one another. Not @ a computer so just google the link try "htc g2 root wiki" will be one of the first hits I'm sure. Read first make sure you understand, having said that its safe and easy

[Q] New Optimus G Phone Update- will this affect Rooting?

Sprint LG Optimus G To Get Software Update At Launch OnNovember 11th
updates include:
Intermittent freezing/locking up
Intermittent device reset during YouTube playback
No power on due to Wi-Fi crash
Sprint ID icon randomly shows as Mobile ID icon
MSL protection for ##DIAG# should be on
Reply to All in email: Device was including the sender name, outside of normal.
Hidden Menus HW version. Version was not showing accurately: “1.0″ should be “10.””
1. can anyone confirm this?
2. does anyone know if this will affect / remove rooting
3. should rooting be done before or after the update
No idea, I was wondering this myself but I went ahead and updated anyway because it kept popping up.

I rooted my Optimus G, then applied the update. I lost root, but I simply used the same method again and I got root again np So doesn't look like it will hurt to apply it.

One of the member said that there was battery drain on his phone after root. Can you confirm this?
easy peasy
super easy root *after the update*, even for a noob like me. rooting took about 10 minutes after reading the instructions. easy peasy.
