Possible to get wm 6.5 on an LG WP7 device? - Windows Phone 7 General

Does anyone know if theres any work getting windows mobile 6.5 onto the new LG WP7 device? I personally cannot stand the new windows mobile solution. Granted it is very fast and has some nifty features, but it screams iPhone to me. Microsoft took its new mobile platform and built it to go head to head with the iphone functionality and Ui, but like the iphone its too locked down for me. I was hoping that there might be a group of individuals that are working to get windows mobile 6.5 onto these new devices. I would love to have all the functionality and freedom 6.5 gives me on hella speedier hardware that is Windows Phone 7. I will say though that the LG;s slide out keyboard feels clunky. The function key is in a horrible spot too.
Sorry bout the rant and getting off topic. Its the last few weeks of the semester and all of my instructors are sadistic in having a whole boatload of essays due at the same time.l Again, sorry bout the /rant.
Please Please Please get wm6.5 to run on the LG Optimus. Please!

Or....you could have bought the HD2

I could have, but I need a physical keyboard. Thats a non negotiable feature.

I have no idea... the answer is probably no, but it sounds like a cool, fun thing Kind of reminds me of trying to run DR. DOS 6 on my brand new, shiny 486DX. And memory extenders to load drivers into the area bove 640k.
Why you ask? IIRC, it was because I wanted to finish some ancient game on 5.25" floppies. Maybe Roger Wilco (SpaceQuest by Sierra) or Hero's Quest.

has it been possible to get any OS on the root of another device???
I'm guessing probably not.
there are still some tp2's floating around and I here they've been overclocked.

There is an LG Fathom that is snapdragon powered with WM6.5.3 and a keyboard, smallish 3.2" screen though, but is at least WVGA res.

Hahahhahahaaaa.
Get a Touch Pro 2.

There's the LG GW820 on AT&T.

Soo... Been a while. Can someone list the requirements? Can drivers from devices such as the fathom be used if we can install the OS somehow? Where do we stand on that issue?

i knew it wasnt possible when i purchased my device. I was looking for further development information, and whether someone with more experience with the devices could tell me if there were any major differences between the hardware of the fathom and the lg wp7 phones. are you informatively telling me there are no similarities and this will never be possible, or are you flaming?

Not Possible, closed.

WM7 on Evo

At the risk of being stoned to death before being shot and hanged while being burned at the stake:
Is anyone working on getting WM7 ported to the Evo?
I, for one, like the Evo for it's processor, front facing camera, powerful rear camera, 4G connectivity and giant screen.
I don't know android at all yet (and I have nothing against it at all) but I like to keep my options open.
Just to be 100% clear - I am not saying Windows Phone 7 is superior to Android, nor am I asking which one you think is superior or for your evaluations of either OS and their strengths and weaknesses.
That's what the HD2 is for.

Hell no. Wait for the Mondrian or the several other devices being released with WM7 by companies like HTC and Dell if you want a device like this running that OS. The Evo is an Android phone, and Windows Phone 7 isn't free, open sourced software. Phone manufacturers have to pay for each copy of the software they put on each device, so there's little to no chance of getting it on this phone.
Supposedly the new WP7 HTC phone will have a 1.3Ghz processor. Windows takes up too many resources and the UI is hideous. I can't believe people give it so much praise and we don't even have a working model. The ONLY good thing about WP7 is the xbox live part but we don't even know what that's going to be about. I personally think the UI is hideous.

I guess you're not a big fan of Scrabble, then?
In all seriousness though, it's a shame they're giving up functionality for aesthetic appeal. What's the point in rearranging artfully arranged sliding squares when I can simply set icons and widgets anywhere on one of my 49 customizable home screens?
It's hideous. Another turn off is that the text in the squares is cut off. I don't want to see CONTAC instead of contacts. I think it's going to fail.

You don't like cut off words? That's impossible! How could you not like cut off phra-
I think this poll needs an additional "There's a D&D Android app?!" option.
I honestly like the way WM7 looks. The squares work very nicely together, and the way words run past the edges of the screen give it an artistic feel. Anyone familiar with the concepts of graphic design will appreciate the GUI.
The XBL add-on is the major reason I'm excited, I just think it'll be an awesome feature, however they implement it. I'm hoping it'll show which of your friends is online, what games they're playing, and access to your achievements. At the very least
As for being on this phone... it might be neat, but I'd rather get a device designed for WM7. Or flash the HD2.
I just saw the tags on this topic. Lawl.

ROFL!!
WM7 is a giant step back in many ways with it's artsy fartsy ui. I'm not sure why they are going this route. It reminds me a little of the pre, all this focus on look zero time spent on function. It's like they are trying to further dumb down the iphone which any 5 year old can use and I'm not sure they are going to impress either crowd.
Xbox live sounds cool until i look at the form factors and realize these are not gaming devices. I may just pick up the rumored psp phone, especially if it runs android or another non totally retarded os simply because at least that is a mobile device I'd enjoy playing games on as it has the proper hardware.

I played a little with a UI theme designed around what's been seen so far, and (at least the theme) it worked pretty well. Contacts slid smoothly, Zune-like, into the screen displaying your contacts, complete with assigned pictures. Of course, it's only assumed that it'll use Zune-esque menus. Either way, I enjoyed the aesthetics and the touch-friendly interface. WM for years has been a highly touchy UI, so it's about time it's moved into a world that has less tolerance for styli. If it continues with something even close to the level of utility WM has now, I'll be a happy man. We'll see how it works on release, I don't really want to praise something I only kind of know about.

I don't think they're meant to give you the gaming side of XBL, but rather the informational side. I know I like just looking through my friend's list and comparing their played games and achievements to mine, and that's probably all they'll have. I'm sure if mobile gaming kicks off they'll offer Marketplace games for Mobile, later down the road, for phones made with that in mind.
every word i have heard is that the hd2 is not going to be wm7, at any point in time. as i understand it, the hardware architecture is simply incompatible. likewise with any device produced thus far (except the kin, i think, and it's close relative). the best you would get on the hd2 is a type of look-alike port, but without the same functionality.
although, i'm not sure why one would take a perfectly good OS like android and put wm7 on it, other than maybe just to give it a whirl, lol. that being said, i suspect that the architecture on the evo will probably have the same limitation as the hd2.
WM 6.5.x was the pinnacle of WinMo... It had so much potential. WM7 killed it. now its just an webOS/iphone OS... it sucks. WinMo is dead to me. :'(
Of course I'd like to see a port. Now whether or not I will actually use it for anything more than showing off will depend on how good wp7 is and the port... but the more options the better imo
Wm7 on Evo
I have read that a guy found a way to launch either android or windows mobile 3.1 using dos box on an android phone. What about WM7 i don't know. I think on this forum people could accept that there are guys who like android OS and those who like WM7 OS. I personnally would love to have a HTC EVO 4G phone running both OS system . Having that 4G phone running WM7 would be nice for me because there are some ppc softwares that i don't find on android and that can be only run on a Windows mobile 7 phone!! I had the Nexus one and the HTC HD2 and i already sold them. I'd found really amazing to get an EVO 4G running WM7 'cause it would be an exploit and i sure i'm not the only one who want to see that. Plus the HTC EVO 4G will have 8 megapixells compare to the Mondrian and the HD2, the Winmax (4G) and seems much nicer!!! Let's sign a petition of who wish to see that or not and we shall see!!!!

Wm or android, who is better now?

on my opion, WM is my top choice, android? may be in the future
the no.1 advantages for WM is the register, however it is fat, and it is contains hard understanding digits, but this is the way we can modify the system, even something on the base. only WM supports modify register by handset users.
someone says andorid is open source, but i dont believe it is the keyword. WM is brother of WINDOWS, every app developer could use their tool to develop WM apps. For example, Visual Studio has WM compiler.
WM supports modify desktop themes, includ background, tool bars, and soft keys, i think almost handset users could use WM as normally without manila.
WM has too many levels of menu on system setting, but we always find what we want in the end, but android doesnt give us this.
on other hand, android's app is developing very fast, because it is open source, absolutely free, but android has too many things should learn from WM. app market and open source are good idea, but operating system is the keyword.
why WM still losing market? 64k color screen, tardy in app market, expensive handset especially in developing countries, no multi-touch and so on. but WM is the best operating system ever i used, sybian is very silly in touch screen, iphone os doesnt support multi-task.
may be android is my future choice couple years later, but now, WM is my choice.
this is my personal opion, i hope everyone discuss with me as a gentle. thanx

Android actually has a future
I love WM, but this is the last of the operating system as we know it. As a noob, I have done more with this phone than I ever thought was possible. Window Phone 7 won't allow us to do the things we have done with 6.5. Also, now with Microsoft changing the game, there will be no new apps developed for 6.5. The iPhone offers no freedom. Microsoft is following Apple in suit, limiting freedom. I don't understand Symbian. Palm is dead. So, my next handset will be an Android. I'm sure next to Apple, Andoid will be #2 system to develop for.

Palm was purchased by HP for several hundred million. Rumor is that WebOS will be used on a tablet HP will put out later this or early next year.
Had N1 for 3 months now. Decided to stop by my old TP2 forum.. hehe.
I'll be short. I'd gladly spend another $600 and sell my last pair of socks to go from WM to Android device.
If you're still on TP2.. I dunno what to say not to make you feel bad... but seriously, throw that **** out the window and get an android phone, even G1 is better than anything WM-based.
I'm saying that as a guy who had WM phone since 4.0, back on Cingular 6125 (or w/e it was).
P.S: and trust me, the xdandroid that runs on TP2's flimsy hardware is nothing in comparison to a proper android device.

I'm looking at the Samsung Galaxy S (if it gets quickly rooted and can flash custom roms) or the Aava Mobile dev phone with the intel moorestown soc (which runs Meego and Android natively. WIN!).
I think both of these phones have advantages over the Streak.
Speaking of tablet/phones, have you seen the S7? Makes the streak it's lil biotch. lol
I wouldn't get either personally.

Yes, it's called Linux. If ADB, recovery, SU and Busybox are working on a rooted Android phone, there's an amazing about of customization, fixes, etc (like regedit kinda) that can be done in Android.
There's even desktop apps that will let you modify android apps and let you push them back to the phone.

LOL, I find that hilarious, because I find WM and windows's largest DISADVANTAGE/disaster is the registry. *nix is fully customizable/editable like windows, and arguably much more logical/less of a clusterf**k than the registry. I think WM is all but dead at this point. WM7 looks pretty weak, and android has already surpassed WM6.5 in a short time.
I have a tilt2, and there's no doubt my next phone WILL be an android phone. WM is a walking zombie at this point in my mind.
When you get right down to the ACTUAL subject of this section, the clear winner TODAY is WM. While Android may be the future, WM is far more capable out of the box than Android; case in point, Exchange Sync. Granted, there are a growing number of apps available which help to level things a bit, the question was about the O/S's not them and app support. And the comment about the difference in hardware, well look at the EVO and HD2.
Now, I have no idea what the future will bring, but I do know that today, as a business user, Android does not meet all my needs. Those that will argue this will start with the apps available, which actually serves to make my point.
I am in this forum because of this question, but will make my own determination which suites me better and won't get caught up in any of the hype.

I don't know how "more capable" somehow equates to simple Exchange support, but if that's all that matters then RIM > Everyone else.
How about pointing to some other areas where WM is the "clear" winner? Because I can definitely point to many areas where Android trumps WM. Thanks for playing though.

windows phone 7 for tp2?

Sure but the Touch Pro2 is only running at 528mhz meaning it only has half the minimum processor speed for WP7 so it probably won't run very well even if it were possible. I'd much rather have it on a device running a snapdragon.
I'd be OK with slow as long as it's stable.
Only if the main menu, and Zune integration is there, it's more than enough. I don't need the games, or the eyecandy.
Almost no chance. Unless you find a build of WP7 floating around that's compiled in ARMv6 or less or somehow convince your TP2 to learn a new instruction set.
You can get a Win 7 Phone theme from XDA to mimic the UI. Thats all.

WP7 or wait for new webOS device?

Hey,anyone got an idea?I should wait for webOS new devices come out on early2011 or buy a windows phone 7 device?personally I love portrait slider phone, so I would like to compare dell lightning and palm pre series phones here. anyone got a suggestion?please share here...I'll consider it...
Personally I think webOS it basically dead now. HP may try to do some good stuff with it in a tablet possibly, but I think palm just tried as hard as they could, and webOS really didn't bring anything outrageously different or excellent to the table; it just seems like Palm decided to say "here's our try at what everyone else is doing now". WP7 is a complete reboot of a phone OS from a very large company, many people feel as if it's going to do very well, they have a lot of carrier support and developer support, and the hardware is going to be killer. I really don't think it's much of a contest.

[Q] Life after 6.5?

There appear to be a number of folk here who feel that WP7 is a step backward from WM6.5 in terms of feature set, customisability, hackability etc. What then would people propose as an alternative once WM6.5 is finally dead and buried, Android? Iphone? Symbian/ Maemo? or will you give WP7 a chance?

So much fight here about it.....
Well I'm still not decided.
But I know I want to give WP7 a go.
Looks great and I would be happy to have clean, unified UI.
Limitations which are apparent on WP7 make it unusable at this point.
Android is the most complete but I just really don't like it's interface...
Probably staying with 6.5 for some time....
i personally cant be bothered to hack my my phone and look for custom ROM to flash. surely people only do this if they are not happy with their phone.if you dont like the OS. dont get it. its the reason why im not getting android, or an iphone. all phones have great features missing from them. and wp7 is only in its first phase improvement like copy and paste will come. ive only got 1 complaint, and that is that i cannot use it as a flash drive but then again, if i did that, would it slow down to a crawl??? wp7 is dead easy, i dont have time to muck around like i used to with wm6.5 on my touch diamond 2. i want it all, and i want it all now. so im sticking with wp7.

Same thoughts here. Was cooking my own 6.5roms to get a slim and working OS but sinceI got my HD7, I've stop cooking totally because WP7 is very fast and stable for me. Sure there are areas I'm not happy with, but at least, I have more time to live my life now since I stopped cooking roms.
I'm not here to convince anyone to go WP7, each OS has it's pros and cons, and each of us are completely different and see things and have different needs, so we go for different phones, something that works for us.

LOL , you just made a lot of people angry by stopping with cooking rom's .
I think I will stick with wm 6.5 for awhile. I use it as a Mass storage device & tether with it often. I also am really used to using smart dialing which I can't understand why it wasn't added to WP7. I'll wait to a few months after WP7 lands on Sprint to see what the updates have brought & what hackers have opened. If more functionality is available on WP7 I'll get it, if not I'll go with Android when I want to upgrade because of hardware
shouldn't this be in the winmo section???

There appear to be a number of folk here who feel that WP7 is a step backward from WM6.5 in terms of feature set, customisability, hackability etc. What then would people propose as an alternative once WM6.5 is finally dead and buried, Android? Iphone? Symbian/ Maemo? or will you give WP7 a chance?

I'm going to wait for the 2nd generation of WP7 phones and OS (or at least an OS update or two). I was ready to get a focus, then I realized I'd be losing some features I enjoy on my TP2 (multitasking, tethering, call manager) just to gain a newer OS.
I also want premium hardware and design which the first generation doesn't seem to offer. DVP comes close though.
i switched to android, never looked back

wait, you are using a plastic phone with a plastic resistive screen and are talking about premium hardware???
There should be another choice "I would celebrate with Dom Perignon!" Please put the 6.5 out of it's misery already!
One thing is sure for me, I will not be joinging the iPhone family.
Possibly Maemo or Androd. Depends what kiind of devices will be out by then.
W7 only if there has been lots of needed updates and/or hacks/roms and such.
Any poll in a specific device forum will always have support for that device.
Poll threads should be in common forum to get a neutral response from ALL, IF the thread starter wants to know EVERYONE's opinion.

Life after WM6.5 to which he refers is precisely WP7. then the correct section!
A little off-topic, but correct!
I found that I was having to flash new ROMs etc to my 6.5 because the UI and features available to a standard WinMo was rubbish. I never liked the 6.5 OS much, I just liked the ability to customise and look deeper into the phone
I am now on WP7 and would never look back on 6.5.
At the moment I don't see I have much choice - Android here I come I think.
The gains in slick simple UI are insufficient in my case to outweigh the loss of functionality vs 6.5.
Many of the other advantages (gaming for example) are of no interest to me on my phone (I am not the target market).
I will stick with 6.5 until at least Phone Alarm is released for Android, then it will become viable for me. Hopefully this will be early 2011.

 My premium phone standards were set by my SE X1, not the TP2. I would really love to see a WP7 version of the X1. Hopefully the X7 will deliver. But knowing SE, it won't be released until next November.

Ditto. X1 was excellent.
Currently on X2 which is actually better in many regards.
Anyway, I just hope SE will make it around Feb/March.
So it will catch upgrades which are for me necessary.
And until core apps I use on WM 6.5 will be functional/supported
I can just wait for some time....
I find it hard to believe anyone speaks of the death of WinMo in the present tense. It died for me like 2 1/2 years ago and since then the iPhone has taken over the smartphone market, Android has taken over the spot WM6.5 used to occupy and Microsoft has done practically nothing until very recently. I bought a Focus and I like it, it's a magnitude nicer and easier to use than my old Fuze with WM6.5 and while it's lacking a lot of the functionality, that will come with time and, in the meantime, I don't need to take out my reading glasses and itty bitty cramp inducing stylus to use it. The Fuze is still sitting on my desk, unused, with a noticable layer of dust on it. And there it will sit until I finally tire of looking at it and throw it away. And good riddance!
I cannot speak for anyone but for me, I have been windows mobile user ever since palm treo with windows on it. Before making switch to WP7, my device was Tilt2 and I tweaked the crap out of it putting custom roms and radio to fit my taste. Although having the capability was great but my user experience was not all that great. Something was always wrong and the hardware and software wasn't working correctly, so I was constantly tweaking and tell you the truth I got tired.
I was ready to jump ship to Android with Samsung Captivate but as soon as the WP7 was arriving I decided to wait. Boy I am glad that I did, I am happy with my samsung focus. Although it's missing some functions now but I am sure it's on it's way, the stability and the fact that it just works and I do not have to tweak anything makes my life a lot easier. Could not be more happy with OS. At least so far.
My wife has iphone and looked at android and both are not really appealing to me. Android is not all that great even if with all the customization and tweaking.
