[Q] Exchange error over wifi, 3G works perfectly fine - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
unlike some people on this forum who have problems with exchange activesync over 3G, I have the problem the other way around. Couldn't find a thread about that, so here is a new one.
My DHD will sync with exchange over 3G/HSDPA without hesitation, but when I connect to wifi, doesn't matter which one (at home, university, open network), it displays an error in the top drawer: "Exchange Sync error: Synchronisation is experiencing problems." (dutch: problemen met de synchronisatie).
Are there more people with this problem? Anybody with a solution?
I'm with Vodafone NL. I don't know the exchange version the university uses, but i suspect it is 2007.
Thanks for your replies!
Luc

I had lot of sync problems with Exchange until I discovered Laurie's blog !
http://laur.ie/blog/2010/09/exchange-2010-sp1-sync-with-android-froyo/
I installed the Google stock 2.2 email apk (as described in the blog) and after few minutes my calendar was fully synchronized and I receive emails in push. That's great
I am not sure that would solve your issue but it is worth trying it.

I do have the same problem! Funny thing is, most of the time it actually does sync, only sometimes not. I couldn't figure out why or when, I'm not seeing a pattern.
I'm synching directly with the server. It's Exchange 2003 SP2.

Hi there, did you ever resolve this? I have the same issue on my evo4g... ActiveSync only works consistently with wifi off. No idea why

Windows Live Today screen plugin on Windows mobile 5 - how to set sync schedule

Has anyone come across a way to set a sync schedule on the the new Windows Live Today screen plugin?
I'm looking to see if I can have the plugin automatically check for email every x minutes
It's possible to set a schedule when I sync with Exchange using the Activesync settings but it does not appear to be possible with the Today screen plugin to allow for scheduled syncs to my Live Hotmail account
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

ROM Version: 2.00.02 WWE
ROM date: 12/01/06
Radio Version: 1.14.10
Protocol version: 42.49.P8
I found the setting, its within the Windows Live application under account settings.
The settings don't save/stick. I want it on, 'as messages arrive' - is anyone else able to get this 2 work.
It would replace other push email solutions....
I know exactlly what you mean radii,
i used to use 4smartphone.net to get push mail, and when i heard about hotmail push i just had to have a look
when I created a new msn id specially for this task and im sure it was on "as msgs arrive" but ive hard reset, to no aval, i found a couple of, well loosly, but quite apt keys, but changing them has not made a difference.
i noticed that the today plugin changes to disconnected after 1min, i found i can keep it connected by having msn msngr logged in, but even then it dosent direct push. ( " as msgs arrive " ) ,and it starts to rack up my gprs bill.
the only thought i have is that when i created the new id, and it worked, my account was then modified, to enforce a policy on the mobile, or an i being to paranoid?!?!?
i assume your on wm5 from posting in here, im on wm6 but i found you have the same issue, so its poss its the app at fault, gutting when you read on a msdn blog how to do it!

MS Exchange Not Marking Mails Read

I just upgraded to Black 2.5 and 1.41 Radio ROM, and so far I love it... I have been playing around with if for a couple of days, but I noticed a little problem. I have an exchange server from work that I have been using direct push, and everything syncs and downloads correctly - no problem. However, when I mark a mail read on my phone, it does not mark it read on my office computer.
On the previous WM5 ROM I was using I did not have a problem, so I am not sure if this is a common problem due to WM6...
Thanks for the great site!
Im using Black 2.5 wm 6 rom, and also with an exchange server with non of the problems you are experiencing.
Same issue for me
I am also seeing this issue with some emails not being marked as read.
Using Black 2.5 w/ radio 1.41 and syncing with Exchange 2003 sp2.
However, this problem is not consistent and somewhat random. Sometimes I have noticed that out of say 5 emails I read on my phone only 1 shows as not being read on my laptop. Other times I have read several emails(15 for example) over the course of the day on my phone and several groups of them will still show as not being read on my laptop.
At first I thought my phone was losing the http connection with Exchange, but I still receive new emails via direct push. Strange.
I did not have this issue on WM5 or Black1.2
Any ideas?
i too have had the odd email not been marked as read, but i've had the same thing with every wm5/6 rom i've installed and just got used to it
this has to due with the way direct push works. E-mail's don't get pushed back as being read until a new e-mail gets pushed to the phone...or you manually send/receive in active sync.
I tried both a manual sync and sending a test email to my exchange account. The test email came through but the emails still showed as unread.
I haven't time to really look into the issue as it did not happen consistently. One thing to note I was Buzzing on Black 2.5 when this problem occurred and I have since downgraded back to the default settings(yesterday) . I did not have this problem at all today. Will update if the problem comes back.
@DeniaL
I have been considering purchasing my own Exchange Server 2007 and was wondering how you setup email accounts to use an alias. Is it a third party app?

No, its a pretty simple way to trick the exchange server. Hit me up over PM if you want more info.

Windows Live Messenger and Email not syncing...

Dear All,
I was working (quite happily) with WM5 on my HERMES (MDA Vario II - HERM300), but a friend told me that WM6 was MUCH better and that the reception is MUCH better and the facilities on this nice, new, Dutty V2 version of WM6 was brilliant and... (get the drift?)
Well, I upgraded, according to the instructions with the ROM, including upgrading the radio and SPL (Hard-SPL, now) and I now have NO email! I got this FOR the email!
I had some issues with the phone and each has been resolved. I am hoping that these issues will be resolved as well by listening...
Anyway, I cannot receive my HoTMaiL email (as I could with WM5) and I cannot get my OWA email.
I used to be able to download my HoTMaiL via Windows Live, but that has stopped working after about 2 days. I have NEVER been able to send emails via HoTMaiL (under WM6). I send an email and it stays in the Outbox. When I do a Send/Receive, it sits there for a long time trying to synchronise folders and then returns that it Failed to sync.
I get the same problem with my OWA email as well - it cannot sync folders and cannot send emails. I have installed the certificate for the OWA machine and I am referencing the right address (owa.xxx.com) as in the certificate, but to no avail.
Although I do have HSDPA on the phone (and its beautiful), reception seems not to be any better and *CAN* be worse!
Lastly, I cannot change the soft keys on the phone - I understood that the ordinary application was removed, but I cannot find the replacement for this to change these keys.
Hoping that a noobie can be helped,
QuietLeni
some more information:
I have since solved the HoTMaiL issue - my phone was in a bad reception area (OK, schoolboy error, but the phone USED to receive there fine...)
...but I STILL can't synchronise with our Exchange 2003 server, even in a good reception area or over 54mbps WLAN!
So, the questions are these, now:
1) is there a reception problem with the 1.4 Radio ROM, as I used to have slower speed, but better coverage with 1.12?
2) is there a compatibility problem between Exchange 2003/OWA (on SBS 2003) and WM6.0? Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Thanks in advance.
QuietLeni
Got a little further...
Dear All,
I'm a little further forward... ...I have sussed out that the WM6 machine *IS* synchronising, BUT no emails are not sending or receiving.
What is going on?

Exchange Active Sync not working as well as expected...?

I have recently purcahsed a new HTC Desire from Telstra in Australia. The phone is currently running Sense out of the box and I have not attempted to root the phone as yet. It is currently running the following versions of software:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.30.00.28U....
Kernel: 2.6.29-3....
Build: 1.16.841.1
Software Number: 1.16.841.1
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1
I have setup 2 mail account on my Desire, one IMAP (personal email account) and one Exchange ActiveSync (Work Email) and I am syncing just Email and Calendar with exchange (not contacts). The issue that I am experiencing is that the Exchange Sync only seems to "Always" work when I am connected to a Wireless access point, if I am out and about and using 3G/Telstra NextG the sync regulary fails, numerous reties and restarts do not seem to fix the syncing issue. However as soon as a connect to a wireless network somewhere it starts syncing straight away...?
Has anyone else experienced something similar to this. I have searched around these forums and have not come across the same issue as yet.
Cheers
I wonder if Telstra is running a proxy service that mucks around with HTTPS in a way that Exchange doesn't like? That would potentially explain why it works okay on wifi. I would suggest you raise this as a support issue with Telstra (good luck)!
Good suggestion, I will give them a call today and let you know what the outcome was.
Cheers
I'm having the same problem. However i did found a small workaround.
When outlook fails sync:
- enter email application
- Press Menu
- More > Settings > Account Settings
- Untick and then tick back again the SSL again.
Just that.
My testing on this leave me to believe that the issue happens when you leave one antenna coverage.
Hopes it solves your issue
Hi Somel,
That fix seemed to work. Verry anoying though. I hope HTC can fix this issue in the next update.
Cheers
My pleasure..
I hoped that the pinkish issue was that easy

IMAP problem on 4.1.1: libcore.io.errnoexception ECONNREFUSED

Hi all,
since yesterday, both K9 and AquaMail stopped working on my device.
Both mail programs have 2 accounts, my Gmail-Account and another one on a private server.
Both programs state libcore.io.errnoexception ECONNREFUSED, while at least my own server is up and running and is fine (other users have no issues).
The GMail-App is still working though, but I expect it to use its own protocol rather than IMAP...
Any ideas or someone with similar problems?
Solution: With their mobicarte, French operator Orange filters SMTP/POP/IMAP, so it's neither a problem on the client, nor the server...
