[Q] HTC-Desire Bugs???!!! hellp - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i want to buy htc desire and i hear they have a serious memory-card(SD) problem and RAM/ROM - the phone crashes! -some say that it happens in all Android designs! is that true?
Did HTC find the problem or was it a knewn bad series that they shipped out?
Also, do you have info about actuall life time of the battery? i have heard it dosnt hold for a day.
in android 2.2 :is there a support for Dvix and Xvid?
can the GPS get an addres orally without touching the phone?
what about the noise canceling in the conversation?
is there a review about the Android 2.3?
im new in the "touch" smart phones and just trying to avoid a bad deal.
thank you

upgrade to orbit? yes or no?

o2 have offered me an upgrade from my IIi to the orbit. As some of you have been using the orbit for a little while is it all it's cracked up to be?
and does tomtom work ok with the orbit and the built in gps reciever?
cheers guys
Go for it you will love it if not sell it many will be after it if you don't like it.
Or you could wait for the zinc (feb 07 or so) if you can do without the gps in-built?
There is an issue with MicroSD's that possibly dosnt effect all units. See other threads.
Apart from that and if you clock it to 250MHz it works extremely well. I loved my BlueAngel but even my old stylus feels fat now. The jog dial / track ball is mega and internal GPS a breeze. The slower CPU also has the benefit of longer battery life.
I am currently looking for one for a friend on eBay and they are going for £300+ so if you dont like it can always sell and keep old phone...
ps. I use a Sandisk UltraII 2gb MicroSD which may speed up map access etc, its generally slightly slower than my 500MHz BlueAngel but no problem.
I'm a new user of the Xda Orbit, my first WM PDA after owning a tapwave zodiac and the first phone I can really type text messages on. For a PDA it's light, snappy (my last wm device was a Compaq Aero 15xx), has an excellent battery life and the GPS works a treat.
The biggest benefit is the size, though, compared to the other similarly featured Xda's in the o2 lineup this one is TINY, it dropped the jaws of my techy colleagues to the floor.
I find TomTom to be pretty fast and accurate getting a fix, route calculations are fast enough, but it is a little slow to start up initially- overclocking helps but not much. I have overclocked to 260 for PocketSNES and on other occasions but find it normally fast enough to be comfortable - quite a feat with a meer 200mhz!
I'd say go for it, I'm posting this message from Mine now! got 3 tabs open text-mode in NetFront- browsing perfection!
I have had the following:
XDA II
XDA IIs
XDA IIi
XDA Exec
And recently upgraded to the Orbit. I must say that it is the closest I have come to being 100% happy with an XDA.
Had no idea how compact this device is. No more holding a brick to your ear, this is an aesthetically pleasing device - even for non PDA'ers.
I haven't found anything that doesn't work yet. I thought the GPS would be just another gimick and there was no way it was going to work properly without an external antenna - WRONG! Stick TomTom 6.02 on it and away you go. Managed nearly seven hours of GPS directed driving before the battery got too low (have now got a car charger).
I have been waiting for a device that combined all the functionality of a good PDA and phone in a phone size package and here it is.............and they throw in a GPS and FM Radio to boot.
and one more thing if you get a decent set of headphones (either buy an adapter or do a bit of DIY soldering) it's a pretty decent MP3 player too. 2GB micro SD from Moby Memory for about £40 and painless synching with Media Player 11 and your away.
The main reason I have a PDA phone is for Terminal Server. I provide software support and it gives me the freedom to get out of the House/Office and still be able to support my Clients. I was always able to justify carrying around a house brick (EXEC) because of this. Now I don't have to this phone is great and I have to say it ..... Gorgeous.
OK now it's out - I love my Orbit!!!
Go get one - I'm pretty sure you'll be happy!
Hope this helped!
Since a couple of weeks ago, I'm also the proud owner of a HTC P3300, after owning a Qtek S100 for a year and a half.
I'm truly very happy with my new P3300.
Almost all of the features have been mentioned in other replies to your post (and I agree with them), so, I want to add that, despite having the same 64Mb of RAM as the S100, it seems to me (I'm no expert) that memory management works better (probably WM5 instead of WM2003 has something to to with it) than it did on the S100.
Also the new 2Mpixel camera works very well, the picture quality is very good. It doesn't have flash or 'macro mode' selector, but I can live without it.
The phone capabilities are good (I had a lot of problems with the S100 not relating phone numbers to names or contact photos).
Apart from a little problem I had with activesync (mentioned in another thread and already solved) it's been working perfectly.
As for the GPS softwares, I use Destinator 6 (instead of TomTom) and Navitel (with custom Madeira map) for navigation and both of them work perfectly.
Bottom line, and yes, I'll be repating myself, I'm very very happy with my P3300.
regards,
thanks for the advice guys! looks like im off to get myself one then!
How about InfraRed capability?
I currently own a Mini S and I'm really keen to upgrade to the Orbit. I've however found that Orbit seems not to have an InfraRed port. So I wouldn't be able to use it as a TV remote control. Can anyone please confirm? Thanks.

as far as i could see and i've read no it doesnt have an IR port, but surely using your phone as a tv remote isn't the be all and end all is it?

I asked HTC about making this device with consumer grade IR and 3G to make this a complete device. This is the response i got from HTC.
"Thank you for getting in contact with HTC regarding your recommendations and support. its more than likely a phone will come out with the functions you have asked. Its a case that at the moment a trade of as to be implemented due to technology reasons due to the GPS functions incorporated in to the phone, which requires other hardware to be dropped from the phone. The GPS being implemented is still fairly new concept and even through I don't have details of future phones its only a matter of time before it happens. Personally i'm waiting for a phone/GPS with slide out keyboard, which again can only be a matter of time.
Thank You for your comments"
All in all adding IR and 3G would make this one compact complete device. Use it to control your gadgets, navigate you around when driving, using it for phone and all manner of PPC functionality with virtually every connection option. One day it will be reality.
Just a snippet from HTC
Hope that helps.
Absolutely YES
Look at my signature, I've worked with nearly all HTCs from an early stage. If you can live without a keyboard, this is THE device to have at the moment.
HTC are nearing perfection!
Best device ever released (excluding the Universal for business use, still unbeatable).
I just got one - having been through the magician (which the wife now loves and uses) and the exec (which I still use as an excellent business tool) I have got to say that I am bowled over by the Orbit/3300 - WM5.0 AKU3, GPS, great screen, brilliant battery life (I get 3 days moderate usage out of mine between charges - 10 calls per day, push email on 18 hours per day, occasional GPS use!
GET ONE - U WILL NOT REGRET IT - and per other posts, if you don't like it I am sure it will get snapped up on EBAY

Which pocketpc after p3300 (also gps+wifi) not too expensive?

Hi,
I have lines all over my screen (no bootloader mode ) which change colour, also after a hard reset, but i can receive gsm signal, but I see nothing on my screen.
Maybe i will reflash it this evening, but I think it will be game over...
Think the internal display is broke (the glass is perfectly ok), i did nothing special and kept it in the leather cover in my pocket...
Anyone has a tip for a new htc phone, not too expensive with gps & wifi ?
I saw you have cheap second hands p3300's for only €100, but it would be my third one then, so i'd rather like another type this time.
Anyone suggests another newer HTC with GPS+WIFI+PHONE that costs -€200?
It may be a second hand also, as long as three above options are possible.
Thanks!
Best regards,
Innovator
just my opinion, some faster device with bigger ram/rom capacity than artemis, maybe second hand dimond or tytn 2, You can probably find under 200 €
I recommend the HTC Polaris

under 200€, I don't believe, if You find somewhere please let me know!
HD Touch Pro 2
pppppppffff just missed a htc hd touch pro 2 for only €300!!!
First I was interested in the diamond 2, but don't like the metal+black front.
going to pay something more €375 for the hd touch pro with keyboard !!!
I checked out out the videos and felt in love, cannot help it
For my first p3300 I also paid €550 back in the days, so why not this professional one.
It's not so thick if you check the comparison pictures and videos :
http://pocketnow.com/review/htc-touch-pro2
HD Touch is too big...
well, if that is the sum you are wanting to invest...I advise you to go get yourself the iphone 3gs! sells around 550€ unlocked new...
i have ditched microsoft for good...and I am seriously impressed starting from my macbook pro 13,3" to my phone...
been an alltime windows freak...but seeing how easy cumputing can be with macintosh i will never return!
greetz
if you spend a lot of money now i personally would go for the HTC HD2
As the HD2 will support windows mobile 7. The artemis thanks to xda has had a beautifull life, and i think that the HD2 with the capacitive display can serve you for just as long.
Personally i'm soon buying an omnia i900 to replace my p3300 for the simple reason that i can get it for 75 euros used, and can still sell my p3300 for nearly the same. For the money the htc diamond is really cheap as well.

hey dude dont give me others review and link...i can find it dat on googling something...but i want ur opinion about this phone..and also wana confirm that call recording(2 side) is possible in HTC desire..
just reply me about this
So.. what do you want?
You start another thread instead of spending 2secs googling and maybe half an hour reading? :/
Sorry... but did you even bother clicking on A|ex' link? The first link has a bunch of reviews from other pages.. so why not bother reading them instead of asking a question which may have been answered before?...
To your questions..
I don't think recording is hardware specific.. so I believe it's an Android app you're using..? and as the x10 is on Android 1.6 and the Desire now on 2.2.. I believe recording should also work on the Desire and even other devices..
I didn't try it though. So don't blame me if it doesn't work like you imagined or doesn't even work at all..
The speaker volume is ok for me too. But maybe using a headset solves this issue for you? Again I can't compare to your x10 as I didn't test it..
And if you consider the audiohack I've read from your "low volume @ x10"-thread be aware of the fact, that the N1/Desire currently seem to be incompatible with this method of increasing the volume what I've read?
And again, do some research pls.. As I saw now, most threads you started seem to ask for links or step-by-step tutorials for things already discussed.. and I don't think everybody is patient enough to answer the same question for the 100. time, just because someone seem to be too lazy to read a bit more :/
And a "thank you" to A|ex would have been nice too, as he tried to point you in the right direction (I think so).
- battery life (1 -2 days )
- optical track pad
+ everything else
in call recording, don't have a use for it, so never tried it.
You can't say that the optical track pad is bad. It's just different from the track ball :/
I myself prefer the track pad over the ball..
Before I forget.. I'd like to mention that the camera seems to need some tweakings in my opinion.. just because of the colours.. but it's all to your likings
I like the optical track pad aswell. I can't find anyhing bad about the device except the sound from the speaker...
I remember back in the good old days when I had a Nokia N73, the speaker sound whas GREAT, and it even had stereo speakers! Then when I got a HTC Diamond I was almost shocked about the crappy sound quality, the Desire has a bit better sound than the Diamond but far from good.

Indeed, I can't believe the poor speaker quality. Some phones that cost 1/4 of the desire can overshadow this device.
And, yes, other than that it's excellent.
thank you guys
thank u guys..
but my idea is not clear yet about call recording yet...
i think there is no two way call recording in HTC desire yet...
I got 2 links to share with you.. the first one is about (I guess?) asking the same question some time ago.. but focus more on the legal issue.. which isn't quite unimportant I believe..:
http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g1/3228-possible-record-your-phone-conversations.html
The second one is a link to an app you might consider testing? Or asking somebody to test it..
http://de.androlib.com/android.application.com-opensystem-callrecord-jjDw.aspx
What I'm still wondering is... what you really want? 2way-recording? You mean ingoing and outgoing calls? Your AND your partners voice?
I don't have any need for recording phone conversations.. so I did not bother spending more time researching that topic... just like you I guess?.. but IF I read your first post correct, you said that there are several apps for your x10 allowing call recording..
My question now would be: Why would those recording apps, which are on Android, run on your x10, but not any other phone? If I recall correctly, both devices run Android? (different versions though)
Either way, try to TEST the desired phone before buying it.. reading reviews and asking for flaws is a good start, but research should just start here.. and continue

Buying a non working Desire

Hey guys,
Quick question: is £42 (around $67) a good deal for an apparently dead HTC Desire?
Thanks,

I don't know much about the phone, other than it won't turn on. But a friend is offering to sell me one, and as an Android geek, I was immediately interested

[SEAT] Leon: Mark 3

Hi guys,
Hope I am not wrong in posting this thread, if I am then just remove it.
I have a SEAT Leon mark 3 and ever since I bought it the infotainment system has not once been updated in regards to software. It does have a software update section but it doesn't say anywhere to check for updates. I have tried google and cant find anything, any help please?
Thank you.
my gf "just" got a leon (2014 facelift) too, nice drive by the way.
why do you want to update anthing? i think updates will only be distributed if there is a really big error in the device/software ... and there will (in my experience) NEVER be new features for something they already sold ... buy a new car in 3 years is the deal here
by the way the speed recognition is a major pain as its extremely slow ... everything else is OK from what i can tell.

actually i meant to write *SPEECH* recognition instead of speed ... sorry for that
anyway yeah ive seen some VWs with friends & family, big/small nav-devices. never a really up-to-date functionality, CPU almost always too slow if you are used to a top smartphone/tablet ... but the units work for some good 10 years.
the future belongs to mirrorlink or whatsoever its called, smartphones are just faster and are being replaced at least every 2 years by the user.
cheers!
Hi guys, just a question about BT connection, probably It's the same on all BT system, I don't know, but why It's not possible to connect two devices (for example 2 smartphone) at the same time?
I have to switch and connect only one of them every time, It's a BT protocol or depends from SEAT software?
Thank you!

it is only possible to connect one (1) device at the same time.
i do not know if it is a BT protocol thing or just a restriction in the SEAT software, but it is the same with pretty much every headunit i know... (VW/AUDI/SKODA/SEAT, Mercedes, BMW, Alpine, Clarion, Pioneer...)
i guess it is like that because modern BT connections also get the phonebook and 2 simultaneuos connections would mix that up ...
in my opinion this makes perfect sense unless you really need 2 phone personally.
start thinking about a dual-sim-phone if you really need this.

Humm.. maybe!
The updates for the car radio is bringed by seat, but at the moment, seat no have updates.
Also, Seat is oferring a new model of radio card with mirror link
As a person who works in the automotive industry, I can only tell you that most, if not all updates are only possible in a service. On another note, updates rarely, if ever, bring new features.
So the only thing you could do is go to your local official VW service (or one where you know someone) and ask for an update. Be prepared to pay some good $$$ for getting a few (unnoticed) bugs squashed.
Here you can find the software updates for your 5F w w w.clubseatleon.n e t/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=118140, it's a spanish froum, use translator
well if anyone need i found a update for the mib 1 and the mib2 screens
it can update to version 480 for the mib 1 and 0330 for the mib 2
you can find the interstions and the files in the link below
have fun and thanks would be welcome

Random Question.
I updated my 5F0 MIB1 Unit to 480 in early January but since then my TMC Traffic hasn't worked - That's the "Traffic Button" it just contantly says "No Reports Found" but a guy 10 miles away receives loads.
Any quick fixes for this?
Hello, can someone post that 480 SW file for download, all the old loinks are dead...
