[Q] Anyone having issues with the automatic screen shutoff? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running CM 6.1 Stable, and have been for a while, yet this issue just popped up a few days ago.
I cannot get the phone to auto shutoff the screen when idle. I have it set to 5sec off and 1 sec lock, (down from 30 sec off, 5 sec lock before).
I have looked at the stock settings and all are in order.
The only thing different is I was trying to play with the setting on my Alarm Clock Plus regarding screen setup, but have reverted to original settings and even rebooted several times with no success.
Anyone else having issues with this? Any way to enable screen off again without having to flash a recovery?
It's really killing my battery fast!
Thanks for you help!

In the android display settings, 15 seconds is the least amount of time to turn off display. how is yours set to 5?
In cyanogenmod settings, theres options to tell the lockscreen to kick in after the screen has automatically turned off and when the user has pushed the power (sleep) button. what is your time set to in the android settings? (settings - display - screen timeout)

Um....finding rock, and hiding underneath it!!!
Turns out I am a moron that can't read.....but I swore that I had the display set to 30 sec....It was disabled. I will test again, over the next few days if for some reason it reverts to disabled.
Thanks!

App to display a black screen/pseudo lock?

Since we need to have the screen turned on to keep wifi/gps etc. running, and there are a few apps that would ideally run in the background with the screen off; to save battery power (and burn in?) it would be nice to have the AMOLED screen display just a black image.
Is there any app out there that just displays a black screen and maybe ignores all but a specific input?
At the moment I just zoom into a black image in the browser, but I can't put the phone in my pocket like that.
(I tried searching for this, but it was beyond my google-fu.)
You dont have to keep the screen on to run either my gps is always on and it neva disconnects also ive spent many nights going to sleep leaving my wifi connected and its neva disconnected either
Yup. If you haven't set WiFi to switch off after 15mins, it should carry on running.
By doing what you proposed, you'll decrease battery life drastically as you'd effectively be disabling the chips sleep mode by keeping it running 100%. With that, only the screen switches off and everything else including Android keeps running. Any application holding a partial awake lock can achieve this.
Lock delay; an app to control the default screen-lock options allows this.
For instance, if you set the initial screen timeout to 2 minutes but standby/lock to 10 minutes in the settings, the screen will switch off after 2mins idling, but the rest of the phone will still be running incl. WiFi/GPS. You can enable a lock/pattern or no lock at all where you press any key including menu/trackpad and it'll come back on in the same place you left it, without any lock. If the phone idles for 10mins, it'll activate the screen lock and place the phone in the standard sleep mode. The max delay you can set the latter to is 24 hours.
I wouldn't advise avoiding the sleep mode unless required in specific circumstances. Battery loss will be drastic; I found out unintentionally when activating this option at the beginning.

Thanks th3, that should do what I want. I don't intend to leave it unattended, it's just for when don't need the screen on while an app is doing something.

Save display settings not working

Hi,
I have a minor issue with my new LG G4. On the display settings we have 2 options:
- display timeout
- display brightness
For some reason the settings are not saved after I reboot my device. After each reboot my settings are back to default:
- default display timeout: 2 min
- default display brightness: 100%
The moment my phone has restarted and I log on, the settings are still ok. But after 10s, when the phone is up and running my screen goes to 100% brightness and my settings are gone.
If I choose 15min en auto mode, the settings are only working for the remaining session only.
Is this a known bug, or am I doing something wrong?
Android version 5.1
LG G4 (European version, Belgium)
Alle latest updates intalled
Standard apps, no additional apps installed yet
Anyone with the same problems here?

Hello ..... I'm on Android 6.. and I had issues with the screen timeout... I've enabled the Screen Timeout toggle on the status bar.. The options are 30 secs, 5 mins and 30 mins.. It seems to work on 5 minutes but I didn't wait that long to try it.. LOL.. As long as it's more than 30 secs.. I'm happy!
As for the auto brightness.. you can try the toggle but I didn't have any issues with that.. :fingers-crossed::good:
EDIT : The system went back to 30 secs after rebooting..... FCUK SAKES !!!! ....
oh well.. there are much more bigger issues in the world.. i'll just bite the bullet until there's a fix for this..
Hey there. I've got a slightly different issue. Every time I set my brightness to 0% auto, the phone randomly changes it back to 45% non auto. This annoyes me as it's blinding in the dark and also not very battery saving. .__. Does anyone has a solution for that? It seems not to be caused by overheating, though.
I've got the European Model H815 with official Lollipop installed.
I posted the same topic on another forum.
1 user had the same problem. No workaround but he installed Lux Lite to manage his display settings.
I'll try it out later.

Screen stays on

I noticed yesterday that my screen stays on, not on AOD, but on the home screen, until I turn it off, then AOD turns on. I've already checked the settings, the timeout is set to 15 seconds.
Anyone?
I don't have any fix but maybe try a different time setting and see it that sticks. Do you have any app installed possibly that keeps the screen on?
I've tried 30 seconds, 2 minutes, etc. I have to manually turn it off. I should also mention that I'm currently using the Oreo beta phase 2, and most of the apps I have are Verizon/Samsung bloat. I have very few other apps because I have no way to backup data without root.
Well, I got tired of the bugs with Oreo, so I went back to rooted Nougat. No more permanently-on screen issue.

Make the screen turn off or the screen saver turn on?

Hello,
I finally updated my HTC One S to the Samsung S9 running version 8.0 of Android
I have found that for some reason, the phone needs to tell me the battery is charged by turning the screen on, and the screen does not turn back off again. I searched here and tried the Googles and seems like that is something Android started doing after my old phone so I cannot find a setting. It also appears via the Googles that there is no setting? Is this correct?
I would like to either make it so notifications do not turn on the screen or that the screen will turn itself back off.
I would be satisfied to have the screen saver turn on while on the charger. I have it set to after 5 minutes but it has never turned on.
If some one could help me with either or both my problems, I would greatly appreciate it. I really don't like that the screen turns on when I plug the charger in, but I can live with it if it turned off.
Thanks
EDIT I would like to add that I have all my AOD stuff turned off.

Since it has been about 6 years since I set my last phone up, I completely forgot about Developer Options.
I unlocked D O and found a setting in there to leave the screen off while charging. I think....I figured out the problem.
I can't believe I forgot about D O :silly:
I still have not figured out the screen saver but I no longer am real concerned about it. I would like to know how to turn off the notification that the battery is charged.
Anyhow, if anyone does not know how to get to the Dev Options on Oreo, it is:
Open Settings
Select System ---> About phone.
Scroll down and tap seven times on the Build number entry.
EDIT. The setting fixed the screen saver issue as well as keeping the screen off

Display timeout keeps reverting to 30s

Display time out keeps going back to 30 s. I changed my power modes quite a bit so far. It may be when I turn OFF the battery in the settings dropdown toggle. It calls itself optimizing, when it's turned off. I was able to carefully set options for battery saving with toggle on, and checked that turning ON the battery toggle didn't cause the 30 s reversion.
I need a fixed 10 minute set. I can't stand the 30 s reverting because the fingerprint sensor has been so faulty so far with waking it back up.
Same problem as me, we need to report to samsung to solve in next sw update
Right. Back to 30 s time then off after every other restart. Latest updates too.
well according to settings>device care it says that optimization happens once a day. That's probably why it is happening.
I may disable it. I def recommend that you set an extremely long time (files(Samsung A70s native file manager app)>settings)before it auto delets your files. Like 200 months would be probably ok.
