CONNECTEDwear™ for Android, headphone remote controller - General Accessories

Hi all,
A little over a year ago I finished the first part of my project: Making a (snowboard) jacket with integrated Keypad and headphones/mic.
I found this really cool company that already made products for wearable controller: www.fibretronic.com . (I am not related to this company in any way)
I bought the Keypad Sample Kit and the BTM Module (Bluetooth Module), opened my new jacket from the inside and stitched in the keypad under the sleeve. Made a design for the controls, cut it out from an adhesive piece of cloth and put it on the sleeve on the keypad. (check the pictures)
(This is the really short version, if you're interested I'll make an extended howto on instructables.com)

I finally paired the Bluetooth module with my phone (back then a SE Aino, now a HTC Desire HD), tested the controls <which work as they should> and went out snowboarding with some nice tunes.
After snowboarding I had to recharge the Bluetooth module and the phone.
That's that, now I want something cheaper and easier to use. In other words something without Bluetooth.
I then went back to the Fibretronic and noticed that they have lots of "Made For iPod/iPhone". As was the IPLX Controller (vol, prev/next, play/pause/call) that I bought, works with a standard 4-pin 3,5mm Jack.
I knew that it is iPod/iPhone compatible but didn't realize that it compatibility would be Apple exclusive...
I've recently acquired a HTC Desire HD whom also has a remote controller headset with a 4-pin 3,5mm jack. I thought it would work... Well, as expected from Apple, nothing will work that's "Made For iPod". I really h8 that fruity company.
I started looking for a solution and I found nothing. Only one option remains: writing an app that records the received signal, saves/registers it and links it to a certain function to be chosen by the user.
THIS APP WOULD MAKE ALL IPOD/IPHONE HEADSET REMOTE CONTROLLERS COMPATIBLE WITH ANDROID!
A couple things I noticed with the things that DO work with the IPLX module:
PLAY/PAUSE works
Triple click on the play button makes a call/ends call
Vol up/down doesn't work
prev track button makes a call, holding the button will call and hang up straight away
next track button makes a call, holding the button will call and hang up straight away
I'm not experienced in coding, so I'm seeking some wise council here on XDA:
- How can I find out how these controls work?
- How to make Android recognize the signals?
- How to make an app for this?
Any advice and ideas are welcome.
I'm going snowboarding by the start of February, so I'm hoping to have this working by then.

Is there anyone that can help me with this issue please?

free bump to a problem MANY of us want solved I think. (even with something as cheap as http://earheadphones.homepage.ph/20...blk-ex-earbud-with-ipod-remote-control-black/ that)

I am also interested in seeing this move. Are there any XDA pro's out there who can provide some insight, work-arounds etc?
I have the Klipsch S4i headphones and I LOVE them. They've got the iPod controller in the headphone wire. It's a 3-button controller. This worked on my Captivate out of the box (center button for play/pause but no volume control) but since I've installed Andromeda3 it no longer works.
Seems to me that there should be a way to interpret the signal sent through the standard 3.5" plug but would require a higher level of skill than I have.
Cool implementation of the bt controls Aythamie.

Hello,
I know this post is hold but I don't know if you solved it. If yes, please share the answer. If not, maybe this will work:
https://market.android.com/details?id=jp.co.chobirich.tools.mediabutton&hl=en
It's a free app that allow a apple earphone with mic and remote to be use on android. Maybe the same code are used with yoursT

Thanks A Lot,
This app has been on hold for a long time.
Going to have a look at it.

I HAVE THE SAME oneS! please find a haX or an app !

adhesive fabric
Aythamie, I'm trying to put the connectedwear keypad to the inside of my jacket. I don't want to sew it because it will break the waterproof seal of the fabric. I'm having trouble finding glue that will stick to the silicone keypad. Also, what is "adhesive fabric"? How did you make those slick button icons? I can't use iron-on paper because the jacket is made of 100% polyester and putting a hot iron to it will ruin it. Thanks for your help.

PCB that translates connectedwear events
In the spirit of "better late than never" -- my solution is a custom PCB that sits between the phone and connectedwear. It translates connectedwear events into USB keyboard multimedia key events. Android eats these just fine. I cannot post outside links because this is a new account, so go to wpd.home.xs4all.nl/wearlink/ for more information.
Hope this helps some other poor soul out there.

I know this post is old, but does anyone know where I can get my hands on a connected-wear IP30 module? I have a surfanic ski jacket that came with the fibretronic system built in that enabled me to connect my ipod. Unfortunately the buttons have stopped working and I would like to replace the IP30 module to see if that's the problem.

The Fibertronic website doesn't work anymore. Neither does their Connected Wear link. That might be why you can't find any of their products anymore. Maybe the company folded or they are running under a new name I'm not aware of. That kinda sucks cause I love my jacket. Just have to solder a new 3.5mm end on the wire from the keypad I put in the jacket since the one that comes with it is flimsy enough to tear.

Can't post the pictures, but the links are provided anyhow if it's of any interest..
I made my own headset using the original HTC wired headset, sacrificed a pair of Creative headphones and soldered them both together.Enjoy your music with your favourite headphones, keep the soundquality and still be able to use the original controls and microphone!
Documented it all with my Desire:
1 Pair of Creative Headphones 1 HTC Desire original Headset
ht tp://i40.tinypic.com/jufhnt.jpg
Cut the headphones at the appropriate length (I made it slightly longer than the standard headset)
ht tp://i42.tinypic.com/2lu6yom.jpg
Gently pull off the 3 plastic buttons on the headset to expose the solderpoints. Pry carefully with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver to remove the plastic surroundings on each side to expose the PCB completely.

Here's the 4 solderingpoints, 1 left, 1 right and the two solderingpoints closest to the middle are ground.

The "Helping hand" with a magnifying glass comes in handy when soldering your new headset onto the control. Remember to put the isolating tape back once you've soldered on the positive wires to prevent a short-cuircuit!

I'm well impressed, I like your style.
I shall be replicating this tonight, thanks!
@Rob Pomeroy Thanks for helping out.
Glad it might come to any use =)
Thanks for that, was thinking of doing something similar myself but adding an in-line socket so I can plug in replacement headphones.
Si
Brilliant job, if I didn't have the dexterity of a blind, club fisted gorilla wearing boxing gloves, I'd be doing this my self. Somebody could make a tidy sum offering to do this kind of service for people such as myself.... I cannot understand why HTC didn't offer the original headphones with a 3.5MM socket...
Nice work!! I remember I did that in good old 2004 with my Jens-Of-Sweden mp3 player. It had a brilliant around-the-neck headset with horrible earphones, so I have soldered my Sony MDR-EX71's on it
...however, I have been soldering the ear-buds directly onto the cable as the contacts on them are situated a bit farther apart.
Luckily I have a spare HTC headset so I technically have two attempts to reproduce the work above
thanks, i'll be trying this out!
for those who don't dare, htc an official version of this that you can put your own headphones in for about £25

Looking good m8
After finally finding a nice small 3.5mm inline socket I've modded mine
Si
what about the mic?
Nice
I was going to do this too, I have two headsets (hero and desire) and I'm an Engineer so the soldering is no problem.
The only reason I havn't is that my expensive Sony earbuds have a single piece wire (not detachable near the earbud end.) So there is no way I could have the microphone near my mouth with another 1.8M of cable handing off (by making the Socket version)
That being said, I'd much prefer if someone could just write a program/service that would let me skip tracks back and forward by double tap or tap and hold on the volume buttons.
That only lets you pause music, not advance/repeat though

Wired Headset Recommendation?

Happy New Year everyone!
I've been searching for a specific type of headset to use with the ET4G for weeks without success and hoping someone might be able to help.
I'm a runner and for years have used these Sony clip on headpones:

I've found that they are the only style of headphones that don't keep falling out when I am out running and sweating (the ear bud style keep falling out, I tried the Motorola S10-HD Bluetooth headset but found that enough sweat will short out the Bluetooth receiver on the back). While the Sony headphones work fine with the ET4G, to use it for phone calls I have to hold the device up to my mouth; so I am looking for something with a built-in microphone.
Might anyone have a recommendation for a wired headset with microphone similar to the headphones pictured above?
Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback!
I don't know how the skullcandy 50/50's are (w/mic) but the titans sound really great (no mic). The titans have good low end and good clarity.
I can't speak from experience this is just an idea of what "might" work, but the Monster iSport Immersion Headphones may be what you're looking for.
Pros:
Water proof (You can actually rinse them off)
Light weight
Built in cable controls
***Check for device compatibility first as they may or may not work with Android devices as far as the controls go***
Great build quality
Noise cancellation
Cons:
Noise cancellation (Not good if your running in areas with traffic as you'll need to be able to hear oncoming traffic etc)
Price (The Monster cable site lists them at $149.95) though I'm sure they can be had cheaper online (Ebay, Amazon etc)
They also come in black.
I don't run very much, but I have a pair of Sennheiser MM 50 iP earbuds that suction into the ear.
While I'm at work, I can rack servers, change backup batteries, and run around the datacentre like a mad man and they never fall out.
Also, the sound quality is EXCELLENT and I can barely hear anything outside.
Only downside is that I like to hear what's going on outside of my earbuds when talking on the phone. So, they're great for music and quick phone calls, but for longer calls I don't care for them.

Thanks to each of you for your suggestions so far; looking forward to any other suggestions folks might have.
The one suggestion that comes somewhat close is the Monster iSport Immersion because it comes close to clipping on the ear which, along with the Mic, is the key feature for me because having tried every modification of in-ear/ear bud style- they all fall out whereas the ear clip prevents that.
Has anyone tried:
Powerbeats by Dre Sport?
or
The Sprint Stereo Headset

Hi all,
I've had these headphones since January (2012). I can vouch how durable they are and they do sound AMAZING. I'd always hated the in-ear phones because they'd always fall out. The little in-ear clip on these does a good job of staying put, once you fit yourself with the properly sized attachments (included).
The iSport Immersions are awesome, but know this...the only part that works with Android devices is the pause/play button. Track skipping does NOT work. When running or working out, I tend to not mess with the music very much, so for me it's not very important.
Monster does make a iSport LIVESTRONG (yellow) with Universal control. Basically the same as the Immersion, but different control. I'd recommend these over the Immersion for Android users.
Cheers!

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a set of body glove in ear buds. They come with over ear clips. I work on an oil rig and they stay put no matter what. Plus they are only 20 bucks and sound 20 times better than the skull candy ear buds I have. Almost as good as my Sure ear buds. Built in mic too

I think you are Wearing it wrong.
Actually at first I am not satisfied with the controls too, you cannot see it, and you will get wrong presses, and wearing them properly was a challenge for me too at the first time, because I place my Arc on my right side of my pocket.
I never tried using stock headset of Arc, I have MW600 used it with X8 before I got my Arc.
and as for Controls Single Press on the Middle Button will Play/Pause, 2 Presses for Next, and 3 Presses for Previous, this feature is been out in 2.3.3 I think.
AFAIK the controls and mic is designed for during a call which is next to your mouth for voice clarity and loudness, and if you want to press some controls better use your right hand to get a proper position to press those buttons
About the Stiffness of the Cable, for them not to Tangle right? or is it too stiff?
There's a proper way to wear them on a shirt, actually I love Asymmetrical Design than Symmetrical, so this is a Plus for me, the longer cable(R) goes at the back of your neck and the cable will rest there if LiveSound is unplugged to your ears.

About sound Quality, I'm not really an Audiophile but I do care about the Sound Quality and Design, I have tried comparing MW600 and LiveSound, first thing I noticed that MW600 is using 9.2mm driver but LiveSound only 6mm driver, Driver size does something in every sound quality right?
but comparing the sound I can't hardly noticed the difference(I think I have an Untrained Ears ), I also read somewhere that there are advanced micro 6mm driver, I'm not so sure if LiveSound is using this, it is only 6mm indicated in the specs.
and what I love about the earplugs of MW600, it rest in the ears, unlike LiveSound it is likely to move from a position.
BTW MARK, the controls should be on the right side in that illustration that's where your left side if you followed the right position of the plugs
Dude, I know how to wear a pair of headphones, and I know about skipping tracks with the middle button (and yes, I drew the picture mirrored).
These headphones are just badly designed, especially the controller, which is unusable without pulling the headphone out (and those buttons on it are the worst **** ever, hard to press even if you pull out the headphone). Not to mention, the microphone if you wear them correctly is directed towards your face, and the button on the opposite side. This makes the remote control 100% unusable because you have to twist your arm to reach the buttons, but does it matter when you have to pull it out to use it in the first place?
And like I said before, what's the point of having volume controls in there when you already have physical buttons on the phone? Having buttons on the cable could have solved the annoyance of pressing the middle button a bunch of times (again, the buttons are hard to press), but no, they had to put useless volume buttons on there. Do people need to change the volume all the time? I set the volume when I start listening, then all I need to do is skip or restart tracks every now and then.
This headset is terrible. It doesn't have a single redeeming quality (the cable doesn't tangle, yeah, but due to it's stiffness it sends vibrations to your ear making listening to quiet music impossible while moving since you'll keep hearing noises from the cable). Plus, they look weird, like they are made of the cheapest chinese plastic, especially the controller and those horrendous buttons, I feel like they won't last more than a month before breaking apart.
i was thinking of getting these just because i like having the inline controls and because i thought the cord looked cool, but good to know that it's not as good as it looks. living in a cold climate, i need the cord to be as flexible as possible. i recently lost my mw600 and before getting a 5th one (i've had terrible luck losing these things), i'm gonna hold off to get the new bluetooth smart wireless headset pro.
I also just bought the livesound headset, the controls make no sense at all but the cable is nice.
For the sound quality I just installed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319523&highlight=bass
and it will give you better bass!!
1tap/press : pause/play/answer/end call
2tap/press : Forward songs
3tap/press : Rewind songs
you can set up the headset button to do different things depending on double click single or whatever u like.
500 times better then Dre Beats. I use these for running and usually clip it by my collar and it works perfect like that.

Bluetooth Earphones for Motorcycle?

I'm looking for some earphones to use on my s3 which I can use with my phone to listen to music/gps whilst I'm using my bike. So I need the earphones to be flat so they fit in my helmet comfortably. They also need a decent battery life and ideally can be charged from a 12v cigarette lighter plug.
Can anyone make any recommendations? I'm looking for good quality but cheap. Thanks anyone that can help at all!

I ride snowmobile/motorcycle as well and the best solution I've found so far for me is
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phone-accessories/lg-HBS700-tone
they can be had for a bit cheaper.
Battery life has been great for me on them.... I don't think I've ever killed them, not even in the cold.
and unlike most things now days..these things literally have some great standby time...sometimes I use them, come home, dont use em for weeks (month) and still get a ton of time out of them
I was hugely skeptical since I didn't like LG But i've been rocking a pair for over a year now and they haven't died yet.
the only complain I have on them is that the range isn't great (but for our application here) it works fine.
my second vote would be these..... http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...productId=8198552921666198163&tab=featuresTab
most people love em (but my gf's pair died within a couple weeks) and they are hard to read in the Sun
I have been extremely curious about these for myself though... http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...productId=8198552921666417432&tab=featuresTab
oh and atleast for the first two...they can be charged via micro usb
may be worth looking into....

I have some jaybird bluetooth headphones but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't fit under your helmet. they're brilliant but 100 quid!
I would suggest something like the Nokia bluetooth clip that I also have. looks a bit like the first generation ipod shuffle. it has all the functions you need and also you can plug your own headphones into it. it just clips on to your clothes. I found it to be very good and less than £20. I think it is called bh 204 although I'm sure there's an updated version now.
I'm looking for something more like these style earphones

I need something flat as the ones Alan stated, I've tried before, but they are painful after a while due to pushing on my ear.
I use a jawbone era. it's big but you can make it fit or cut a small hole in your helmet to make it fit. sound is okay, and the other people i have talked to have said I sound clear as a bell while going down the highway. it's truely an amazing little device.
just got a set of G9's to replace my G4.

My wife and I use the Sena SMH10 on both our helmets. It is a great product. We can talk to each other when we are riding together and when I'm riding solo, I connect my cell phone (SGS1 - White SGS3 is on order! :victory to it and stream music. You can even connect devices that don't have bluetooth via the 3.5mm headphone connector. Lastly, it gives you full control over the phone function too allowing you to place and receive calls while riding all hands free (other than pushing the button on the side once to connect to the incoming call or begin voice activation).
Yes, you will have to have a bulky piece of hardware attached to the side of the helmet, but the speakers are Velcro(ed) under the padding and you would never know they are there.
Good luck on finding something that works, hope you find something that meets your needs!
I always use to just wedge my Evo 4g in my helmet on speaker phone lol... Use to text and ride too .... But thats a diff story... Good luck on finding what your looking for...

I use the cardo system "Scala Rider G4"
http://www.cardosystems.com/scala-rider/scala-rider-g4
I use Cellularline Interphone F4. Works fine with SGS and SGSIII.
I use the Scala Rider G4 too. Works like a champ.
I use a chatterbox with bluetooth capabilities and it gets loud enough to hear music fine on the freeway with a loud two brother exhaust.....

Review of Bolse 12W Smart NFC Bluetooth wireless speaker w/lots of pics!!!

This is a review of Bolse 12W Smart NFC Bluetooth wireless speaker. http://mybolse.com/product/detail_B00L4IDA04.html - the speaker is already available on Amazon UK, and soon will be available on Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Bluetooth-Speaker-Function-Playtime/dp/B00L4IDA04/
I have reviewed a lot of wireless speakers, and have been impressed with either their design, or sound quality, or controls, or compact form factor. I can always find something positive and negative about each one, but never have I came across a speaker where I can't even think of one negative comment. But all this changed when I received a review sample of the new Bolse 12W wireless speaker. I'm not hyping it up, but honestly telling you that Bolse came up with a perfect combination of every feature you can think of to include in a portable wireless speaker. And to top it off, they still were able to keep it's pricing under $50. Here is what I found.
The speaker arrived in a nice compact package with a clear description of it's VERY impressive spec. With dimensions of about 7"x3"x2" it looked very compact and easy to handle with one hand, but once you pick it up you do realize a nice 15oz weight to it. This extra weight comes from two quality 6W 40mm drivers packed inside of this little monster. Drivers of such caliber are typically found in over-the-ear headphones. Closer examination of BTS-12 revealed a plastic frame surrounded by front and rear metal mesh grills. Both 40mm drivers are front facing, and rear panel has a bass port functionality. The bottom of the speaker has 4 rubber feet for a non-slip grip with a surface. All the controls are located at the top, and all the ports on the back at the top. Among included accessories there was usb to micro-usb cable, 3.5mm male to male audio cable, a nice velor drawstring storage pouch, and a detailed instruction manual.
Starting with ports on the back, you actually get a physical on/off switch which is very refreshing to see when so many other companies cramp up controls under multi-function buttons. Here, you know for sure when speaker is on and when it off. Another great thing, once you turn it on - there is no annoying guidance voice. Next to the power switch is a standard micro-usb charging port. And speaking of charging, this speaker has a whooping 2000 mAh battery that enables up to 15 hours of playback!!! To use this speaker with non-Bluetooth devices, you have Line In port which you can use with included audio cable. If that wasn't enough, Line OUT port is right next to it which allows daisy chaining of this speaker to another wired or wireless speaker or connecting headphones. One thing you have to realize, this Line OUT port can turn ANY other connected speaker into a wireless speaker. You can consider that as a bonus feature!
The control buttons on the top are equally impressive with touch controls. These are not physical buttons, but a backlit touch buttons, each one assigned to a specific functionality except for a lock button. You get a separate touch button to pick up a call, a dedicated volume up/down buttons, a play/pause button, and skip next/prev buttons. Long press of skip prev locks touch controls so you don't bump them accidentally, and double tap releases the lock. So many other speakers include just a volume up/down and phone control, and that becomes very inconvenient because you have to go back to your phone to play/pause or to skip the track. Here, you have a full remote control of the playback. Also when you receive a call, you can use BTS-12 as a speakerphone.
When it comes to a wireless connection, you have two ways to pair it up with your phone or tablet. Either using direct Bluetooth pair up or NFC area on the speaker (labeled with an icon on the top) worked flawlessly to pair up with my Note 2. Once paired up, it gets connected to both phone and media audio so you can enjoy the sound from this powerhouse speaker 20-25ft away from your phone or tablet. I'm sure you all are curious how does it sounds. Thanks to a total of 12W of combined power between each speaker, it filled up our big family room and I was still able to hear the music 2 rooms down the hall. I actually found the music to be more enjoyable and clear once you take a few steps away from the speaker. That's where you appreciate a clear detailed sound with a punchy bass. As expected from such drivers, the bass didn't have powerful enough sub-bass extension, but I still heard a nice bass punch and a warm deeper layer to make music sound full and enjoyable.
Overall, I was VERY impressed with Bolse BTS-12 speaker and think it represents one of the best values currently available on the market. Everything from touch control panel with a complete playback, volume, and phone controls, the convenient of BT and NFC pair up, an impressive 2000 mAh battery which supports 15hrs of playback to physical on/off switch and both Line In and Out, and being able to keep all this under $50 - this speaker definitely gets my high recommendation!!!

It's among the best I tested. Heard Amazon US will have about 30 units for sale toward the end of this week, and more coming next month.
Hi Vectron. Would you suggest me buying this one or the UE Boom Mini, which costs just 10$ more?
I think this one would be louder and has bluetooth 4.0 and 4''driver.
The UeE has 1,2'' drivers and bluetooth 2.1

Bolse is definitely better!
This Bolse 12W bluetooth speaker use to be thelove of my life!?
Now she dont work no more?
Only had it a year and I plug it in to charge and eveyrthing seems ok
but then when I try to pair it nothing. Not even any signs of life.
Do you think the battery has died? I cant even see how to open it
up without wrecking the nice steel gauze speaker covers?
Maybe that way Id be able to see if something has come loose?
Anyway would appreciate feedback, let me know if you or anyone else for that matter has experienced same or similar problems and has solutions?
Cheers and thanks in advance
