[ROM][WWE][SenseUI] XevRev 1.0b2 - [WM6.5 28014/21889] - Release: Dec 17, 2010 - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

Welcome to XevRev Vogue Series!
If you have never flashed a custom ROM onto your phone before, you must unlock your phone! Instructions can be found here!
This is for CDMA based Touch (Vogue) phones! GSM phones (this means your Touch has a SIM card) are not compatible and flashing this ROM onto a GSM could render your phone permanently disabled!
This is the first release of XevRev, based on WM6.5 28014 and 21889 with XPR compression. You will notice the similarities to NuVogue because NuAngel and I are real-life friends who share our knowledge on cooking.
The basic methodology of my ROM's is to create a suitable "OEM" replacement ROM. That means there will be a focus on stability, usability and ease of use; along with an "out-of-box" experience that should require no major adjustment once flashed. This also means that the ROM will feature a very trim set of "stock" applications. I want to enjoy using my phone, and any tweak or change I make needs to make my experience more enjoyable and simple.
One of the main points of XevRev's core builds will be the focus on SenseUI. 1.0 will utilize the same SenseUI 2.0.2016.3224 packages found in NuVogue 8. There will be no focus on Titanium due to the ridiculous amount of tweaking and (imo) "garbage" applications required to make it work flawlessly with little hassle.
XevRev will only be released with carrier specific builds. I have developed XevRev with Verizon in mind, but I would hope that the other builds are just as stable and capable. The main reason for a focus on carrier specific builds is that it seems to get programming/roaming update working (at least on Verizon). This means you can program your phone without flashing back to a stock carrier ROM like some people have had to, or manually updating PRL files. It also means you won't have to update your PRL after using some REALLY old carrier cabs (which just REALLY ticked me off).
I will now explain how XevRev development will move forward for the short term. XevRev will not be developed like many roms, and will not receive a "major" release every build (example with NuVogue 1,2,3, etc). Instead, it will receive minor updates addressing issues with the current software, then major releases that add new features.
1.0 series
This series will focus on getting the basics right. There will be ZERO focus on GPS features in 1.0 because of my inability to test them because of letting Verizon's customizations run. *edit* 1/21/11 - I have obtained my new XV6900.
What is on the XevRev 1.0 to-do list:
Adding MightyMike and Juggalo_x's tethering fix to beta 2! TOP PRIORITY!
Setting the following registry values to be default out-of-box:
Getting nueSIPDefault or another SIP Default software to make Swype primary keyboard.
Disabling WM built in word suggestion.
Disabling Swype's built-in auto suggestion.
Removing Music tab from SenseUI
Removing Programs tab from SenseUI
Removing Wi-Fi options from com manager.
Finding a fresher default sound system to drop in.
Finding the "Verizon Train" sound effect for messaging. This is only for myself and not for the main build, just so I can bug my buddy to hell and back with it! lol Found it on my new Touch Pro2. Muhuhahaha!
Making Opera the browser that will load from SenseUI Home screen.
Making about:blank he default page that will load from SenseUI Internet screen.
Replacing Earth with Opera logo in SenseUI Internet Screen.
Possibly replacing HTC Mega theme with a different theme.
Possibly cooking in SBP Time (demo).
Possibly replacing ArcSoft Messaging client with another SMS client.
Possibly removing nuePerformance.
Possibly add an auto home screen lock that doesn't completely @#$% me off.
Possibly add in EZ Input. ADDED IN 1.0 BETA 2!
Possibly remove Total Commander since it is a power user feature.
Fixing the weather update on the home screen. COMING IN 1.0 FINAL.
Remove any modules that are not doing anything at all!
What is on the XevRev 2.0 to-do list:
Porting CDMA Phone Canvas to QVGA.
Making Youtube app function.
More to come...
XevRev 1.0 features!
System
XPR compressed ROM. This is the best compression to use on Vogue, and provides faster loading and better loading performance then no compression at all, and faster overall speed vs LZX.
SenseUI 2.0.2016.3224 based mostly on Mega Ext TMO_UK_1.33.110.2 package, along with crazy4tricks's Manila SenseUI 2.0.2016.3224 package.
HTC Default M2D theme.
HTC Vogue Dialer with working program codes on Verizon Wireless (*228 PRL update and phone programing should work 100%).
xTask 2.3b4, with task icons pre-disabled. I picked this task manager for ease of use.
nuePerformance - for boot benchmarking.
nueSIPDefault - for setting SIP input to a different keyboard during boot.
ArcSoft Messaging 5.2.2.64
Imaging
HTC Vogue Camera app from PPCk (if anyone has anything newer that works, please let me know!).
HTC Album 3.0.1918.2223.
Input
Swype Keyboard 3.9.22.22(apparently) with Baly23's Touch like skin cooked in. Original WVGA Swype theme has been removed to save space! Keyboard loads much faster then when installing manually, but may still be too laggy for some (looking for feedback). Please donate to Baly23 for this wonderful QVGA skin!
EZ Touch Input from HTC Mega! This package shouldn't be as buggy as the old one found in PPCK. I have discovered no bugs with it.
Internet
Opera Mobile 10
IETools
Microsoft MyPhone 1.06.2718.0001
MySquare 1.3beta3.1
HTC Facebook 1.0.07.1
Productivity
Microsoft Office 2010
Utility
HTC Calculator from PPCk.
frNotepad 1.4.3.
SpbScreenshot - for reporting bugs on XevRev.
Pocket RAR - Supports ZIP and RAR, so why have anything else?
Foxit PDF Reader - Picked over Adobe Reader because of Adobe's own software being filled with security holes.
Total Commander - Popular Registry Editor
.NET CF 3.5 cooked in.
Mortscript COMING IN 1.0 FINAL!
Games
Solitar
Bubblebreaker
Carriers
Verizon Wireless
Sprint PCS
Alltel
Telus (CA)
Bell (CA)
Cellular South
Cricket COMING IN 1.0 FINAL!
Noticeable things you will find missing from this ROM
Codes folder - I have removed this from my dev builds, because for whatever reason, it would prevent my phone from receiving PRL updates from Verzion's *228.
Gobs of games - Seriously, how often do you play these things? I drive around to places, I don't take a bus. If I did, I would take my Nintendo DS instead of playing on my Vogue.
Carepackages *poke's NuAngel* - Takes too much space up in the rom, plan and simple. You can delete it, but the space is never freed up.
Crappy default themes from PPCK - Seriously, how old is some of this stuff? I want my phone to feel fresh, not dated. Replacing the default theme is a high priority.
SenseUI themes found here - Many of these themes are based on the dated look of Sense 1.0, and they are just ugly. Instead look in this thread for Sense 2.0 themes. Unsure how many are optimized for QVGA.
Manila 2D Customizer (M2DC) 0.29.235. This is not compatible with this build of Manila 2D 2.0.

21889 Series

Changes between 1.0b1 and 1.0b2
Added Build #81+
-Added MightyMike and Juggalo_x's tethering fix. I'd rather be safe then sorry. Not sure how well this fix still works.
-Added aGPS Confirmation package from HTC Mega. I don't know why I forgot this. Please test GPS features and give feedback!
-Added EZ Touch package from HTC Mega, seems to be working great! Perhaps this will fix whatever bug people talked about with the PPCK package found in NuVogue. If you want this as the default SIP, remember to set it in nueSIP!

If any links are dead or do not work, please private message me and I will fix them! All link to new domain name now.
If you want another carrier other then the ones listed above, simply request it and I will build both flavors for that carrier. I may release a generic one in the future after beta testing is completed.

Have fun and good night everyone!
I look forward to everyone's input. Development of XevRev started 09/24/2010, it was almost to the point of release in early November, but I've been busy with my new job! I hope everyone enjoys the fruits of my efforts.
I am considering a Paypal donation link, but I'll leave that for another day, along with the first screenshots.

Are both 28014 and 21889 equally stable? I know that 28014 is 6.5.3 and 21889 is 6.5 but was just wondering if they are equally stable lol.

Bell #80 doesn't work...please.

my testing with 21889 has been that it's as stable as the 28014 build. i would like feedback on 21889 to see if others find it stable.
The manila packages I'm using are from the HTC Mega, and that ran on 21889 which is why I thought to try it. SenseUI feels much faster with this build, but it's not as thumb friendly with task managers and hitting the start button. My new Touch Pro2 uses 21887. so I'm wagering that the builds in that series are stable.
As for build 80, I will fix it when I get home later. Is the link wrong or is the file corrupted somehow?
*edit* Fixed those links. Should be good to go.

I am uploading Beta 2 builds tonight. In addition to the builds I have previously done, I will be adding South Cellular. My upload speed is currently crap, so I may have to upload the rest in the morning after I get access to a cable connect.
I have uploaded pics from the beta 2 Verizon builds. I couldn't snap pics of Swype and Touch Input for whatever reason.
Beta 2 will add what has been listed above previously, I think the biggest is a much newer EZ Touch package then what everyone was used to in NuVogue, in addition to the aGPS prompt (GPS should work fine after this on all GPS enabled phones). I also added the tethering fix just in case, I need to do some file checks to see if the default PPCK files are already hacked or not (or I might just as in the IRC chatroom when I have time).
I'll make sure the uploads and links are posted (correctly) before I head to work tomorrow afternoon (EST -5 GMT).
If the testing of beta 2 goes well, then I will make my next release the true 1.0 and start working on some real improvements (Like getting Youtube to work, and adding QuickGPS).
Testers, please give me input on the following:
Swype Experience
Touch Input Experience (Beta 2)
Can your phone be programed and receive PRL updates on your carrier (I have confirmed this working on Verizon only!)?
TouchFLO Experience
Dialer Experience (particularly on non Verizon, and on all 28014 builds!)
21889 Stability
GPS Experience (Beta 2 only please)
xTask Experience
Any repeatable crashing on any build!
I recommend everyone to reboot your phone after your first boot with XevRev. This will particularly increase performance in 28014 builds (for whatever reason). Thanks everyone for giving my new rom a shot!

Sorry havent been around for a while, been moving. Will install this and test as soon as i can find my cables (hehe).

Remember to reboot your phone once after initial flash to get the best performance, especially with 28014 builds!

Instead of making everything brown like the mega sense have you considered black like the newer 3d versions of sense (ie. Rodium ). I made the Black theme on the second post of your link (sense/manila 2.0 themes). I have tonnes of system files that I ahven't deleted yet to get rid of every trace of brown from the mega if your interested.
P.S. gonna flash this baby on the old Vogue after Christmas to test it out, cool to see someone new take up development. My old Vogue is now a "PDA / MP3 player" for my oldest Son since I moved to the Desire but this looks fun enough to test out.

RE: ROM for Vogue (Bell)
hi,
I've been reading your posts, and seeing all the releases.
What's the best version for my HTC Vogue, on Bell ?
I think you now have a Beta 2 ...can I use that on it?
thanks
KC

also, any kind of GPS/Turn by turn navigation like tom tom or something that could be incorporated into this build, or if you guys know of a good one for Vogue on bell ?
I'll be sure to donate soon...
thanks
KC

For Bell, Use either Bell Canada ROM (unless they are still around in the US, let me know if that's the case then I'll figure something out.)
As for turn by turn navigation, Google maps is installed. i am currently unable to test the GPS features, but next week I am going to go threw the process of flashing my Vogue so it will have working GPS for testing (lots of time off for the holidays).
As for the theme, I world love to have a nice black theme like on my new RhodiumW, if anyone has a link to one that will install in cab format, I'll oemize it and toss that in instead!

Installed it yesterday evening. Everything is running smoothly; no crashing. Only thing that I have a problem is that the Weather doesn't update under the clock

I'll zip up all my graphic files for my jmitr mega black theme and send it to you. With four kids and Christmas coming soon, be patient though!
I designed my theme based on the Rodium look, it's the closest I know of
Jason

awesome. look forward to it. I'd love to see some pics of it if you have time to post a few.
As for the weather issue, I'll look into it.

Well, its going to take me awhile longer to get GPS up and running. Even though I got the GPS unlocked easily, for some reason my ERI has disappeared on the phone, now I can't program it. WTF

The GPS works fine with Google Maps on my Bell Vogue.

Good to know. I plan on adding QuickGPS at some point, but without being able to test it, seems like a pointless idea atm.
I unlocked the GPS on mine finally, but I still haven't figured out the ERI issue. If anyone with a Sprint Vogue could do the following it'd be a great help:
Dial ##diag# and put the phone in diagnostic mode.
Open the file system in either QPST or Bitpim and navigate to /ERI and tell me the name of the file there + extract/rar it.
This information must be from a Sprint Vogue, no other carrier will help me. ~_~ The file names seem to be completely different between carriers.
Yes, my phone is completely ERIless.. (WTF). I might make another post for this issue so I can fix it. I have NO idea how I nuked the ERI, but its really gone and I can't program the phone anymore. lol Perhaps I can test GPS features using a laptop and standing outside.... in the snow..... wait, I don't like that idea. lol
Hopefully this week I'll have time to dig into XevRev_V a bit more. I'd like to make a few tweaks before I really dig into making a Touch Pro2 release for my new phone (and i really hate Verizon's stock roms!).

Pandora AT&T ROM v5.0 OS 5.2.1437 (Build 17944.0.3.1) [Updated 8/6/07]

NOTE: THIS ROM IS SET UP FOR AT&T WAP!!!
In the tradition of a kitchen nearing completion, I like to put out a rom for others to give it a good workout. I really like this build, so I wanted to get it out for others to try. I put it together to use for myself, but didn't want to keep it secret
This one is from the latest AT&T rom base dump, using the Pandora kitchen. It has a 6 meg page pool.
Included apps:
Standard Games
Office 2007 v6.1
Voice Speed Dial v1.2 build 070626
Windows Media Player v10.3 build 15342
Windows Live v10.6.0026.1400

Start Clean
Task Manager v2.7
Camera 4.0 build 27817

Total Commander
10 Button Black Comm Manager

GPRS End Button Fix
Date Single Line
Error Reporting Disabled
Security Warning Disabled
ClearType in Landscape Mode
Clock in All Screens
Live Search using Google
Edge Icon Enabled
Slideout Keyboard Capsdot Enabled
Battery on Taskbar
Why?
My goal was to creat my OEM style ROM for my use.
Other:
There is no compression in the base OS, just a good rom build on the last release available from MS on this platform.
This is dogfood - so it's what I use. Don't like it? Don't use it - or go cook your own
Please let me know how it works, and share your experience.
Issues/Suggestions:
None...
Thoughts/FAQ:
Q: What is the page pool size?
A: 6meg
Q: Will you offer other configurations?
A: Not sure, but if this is a super smooth release, I might if requested.

Thanks - I will take it for a spin.
great job mattk_r!!! congrats on your release.
Trying this out since I am too stupid to figure out cooking! Thank God, PTT is released for my M$VC!
Thanks Matt, I will give it a try.
Matt
Any luck with Crackberry?
not yet. once the current config is released, i'll start on other additions.
BTW- I left out the keyboard mapping fix
i'll post the reg setting...
Well, this ROM is nice! It has just about everything I had just installed after I updated to the AT&T ROM. Heck, its even Black!!
One thing, that new ComMgr with the Internet Sharing switched out with the G Network disable would be nicer - IMO. I find going edge and saving power much more useful than the internet sharing button.
Oh - that time update, its the BOMB!
Hmm... I can not seem to disable receive all incoming beams. While I can uncheck it, it just comes right back when I go back into it.
Also, the Hold the ComMgr Button does not put it into vibrate - however I just installed that cab that is floating around that enables it back...

If you put it near another IR device, does it detect it?
I didn't set the registry bit to disable receive, so it is being on is expected. If beam is on all the time - that's not good.
Please post the comm manager vibe cab, and I'll add it into the base kitchen.
here is the fix for vibate
As for IR, I have nothing to test that.

Does that affect anything - other than the display? I've been getting 3G just fine. I actually didn't care for the extra verbage (UMTS) mainly 'cause I didn't know what it meant
No, nothing to do with performance, just cosmetic, but I was not sure I was connecting to hspa because with all the other roms, I would see 3G and on my phone dialer it would say UMTS AT&T. I first thought it was a performance issue because when I checked my speed with dslreports, it was running around 500 and with other roms I was getting 900. I guess you could change that to say Pandora AT&T
List of apps
I haven't installed but looking at your list of apps:
1. 1-calc is a commercial app, I'm sure it's not legal to distribute it like this
2. You've got v1.9 of PIM Backup, this app is now at v2.5 with many major improvements over 1.9

Thanks vp. i was lookin for almost a day now . lol. Will test immediately and report back.

i am going to try this.. i did not use your rom for quite some time.. now i want to try it once again..

I'm in Thailand and just CANNOT download from rapidshare without paying. Would someone be so kind to upload this to another site so I can download and test it? Thanks in advance.
And thank you Vp3G for another release.

Two reasons:
1) It seems AT&T added a button (not even sure which one) within the last release or two. Only button missing now compared to the 9-button is Beam, which I very rarely use anyway. I also like the red outline when they're selected.
2) There are lots of comm managers available and it seems each person has his preference.
I'll make the 9-button available in the Add-Ons for those who prefer it.
Mirrors...
Will add a non-RapidShare mirror soon. I much prefer this to be a "controlled" BETA so to anyone else tempted to mirror, please kindly refrain.
EDIT: Mirror added. Thanks chamelion!

I finally got the file to download. Will load it up here in a few.
I like the "beam" button in the comm manager. Makes it easier to turn beam on/off.
Only problem I see with the current 3.61 is that when I click on the data icon on the top of the screen, I get the option to "Turn on WI-FI". This works fine. Once WIFI is ON and I click on the wifi icon on top it still says "Turn on WI-FI" instead of "Turn off WI-FI" and clicking it does nothing.

I myself have been a big fan of your Rom's since I came over to XDA looking for WM6 several months ago.. I have decided to upgrade to the Tilt for the internal GPS thats available.. I travel a lot for work and was on the verge of buying a BT GPS next week if the Tilt wasn't released...
I too would like to see you dissect the ATT Tilt ROM and make it worthy when you have time, until then I will have to deal with the ATT bloatware and wasted space..
I will be selling my 8525 sometime next week and I would like to put the official ATT ROM on the device for the buyer because they may want all the other stuff on it that I don't require or use, can you point me in the right direction to download the official ROM?? Thanks!

Maybe if/when AT&T quits playing around with the Hermes ROM! LOL
I'm quite surprised they're putting so much effort into a phone whose successor is already shipping...

Must be SuperCID or have Hard-SPL to install. Answer to your radio question is in post #1.
I'm going to be running mine with the 1.48 radio for a bit before making the switch to 1.54. Curious how battery life will compare to v3.61.

Personal Customization
vp3G,
I am loving that you are constantly enhancing your ROMs and I love the quality. Curious though... I spend an hour or two to get my speed dial, My Text phrase settings (for e-mails and txt), cursor speed, other settings, etc. up and running after each ROM update. Is there any sort of export/import or way to back up these items?
Thanks again for all your great work!

Hermes 6.1 19212 Business Edition (Direct port from Kaiser)

With the help of Bepe's old Hermes kitchen and tools from Tadzio and others, I've put together this rather forgettable, yet stable ROM. It's simply a direct port of the TyTN II 19212 6.1 Build which was last build for that model. It does not have Touchflo, but it has all other components and updated icons that don't look like WM2003. It is basically a "flash-and-forget" ROM for those who want a nearly official 6.1 build, yet don't care for all of the "look-at-me" bling and bleeding edge on some of the other devices. It is set up for an AT&T Keyboard, and does not have the 3g dialer. I have a version with the 3G dialer that is also set up for the HTC keyboard, but it's not ready for prime time, and no, I don't have a timeline for its release. I will not include any programs that are not OEM in the RC build or the final build so don't ask. You may dump the ROM and use any part of it at your discretion. Just give props where they're due.
Note: I put this together just like the factory ROM so all of the programs are in the OEMAPPS folder when you dump it. I'm working on making all of the packages come out in the SYS and OEM directories, but I haven't played with the new visual kitchen by Ervius just yet.
Programs:
-HTC Home with working backlight adjuster (NOT a fix; this uses an HTCUtil.dll from another device that works)
-Voice Command (from AT&T Tilt official ROM; I like it, therefore its there)
-Sprite Backup HTC Licensed Edition (also from Tilt official ROM)
-Adobe Acrobat
-Audio Manager
-Esmertec Java
-Arcsoft MMS 5.0.31.19
-Internet Sharing
-Voice Recorder
-IA Zip
-Enlarge Start Menu (from Jade)
-Large Title Bar (also from Jade)
-HTC Connection Setup
Enhancements:
-New, official WM6 or 6.1 icons for Control Panel items
-Lockstream DRM functional
-Windows Live and OneNote removed
-Connection Setup runs automatically after first reboot
-Mail setup runs automatically after first reboot
Possible issue:
-Someone please check SMS capability and functionality (I currently have it disabled on my account)
There may be other issues with this ROM, so please report them here only. I will fastidiously prune the thread of non-constructive comments and requests such as "Please include (name third-party program) or "How do I flash a ROM?" and "Please make me a splash screen."

Update 8/20/09
Log:
- Build number on splash screen updated to 3.29
- ROM date changed to reflect build date on original Kaiser ROM
- A little better memory usage but not much
- Icon's updated just a little
Really there's no reason to update unless you like your numbers to match. I'm anal like that, so I updated. It's still snappy, stable and looks OEM. Perfect for those of us not on the bleeding edge who also use our devices heavily.

Update: 10/20/09
Log:
- New Large Title Bar Function (uses pop out at top of screen)
- Vibrate button function restored
- In-call volume now adjustable by scrolling wheel
- HTC Splash Screen added
- Now packaged with 1.54 GSM radio
This is an interim upgrade. I will be releasing a package with the HTC keypad tomorrow. I'm not working on a 3G dialer version right now, as the components are a little different and I can't test it because AT&T doesn't allow for it.

FINAL UPDATE
Why? My new Fuze comes tomorrow because my keyboard is on the blink. Alright here is the change log.
- Animation works
- Bluetooth file transfer works
- Task Manger 1.51 replaces more recent version due to not closing programs correctly
- Somewhat improved memory usage

Wonderful ROM mate!! I have tried almost each & every Hermes ROM available on the internet till now. But, I'm now settled on your make. It's very stable.
Though, I don't give a damn to the RAM usage.
Keep your good work going. I think you should try building a ANDROID based ROM for Hermes. It'll rock.

does it fix the video calling on hermes?
So far, so good. MMS working finally!
Check first post for "update". It feels a little wierd saying that for a 19212 build.
Hello
Hello, I installed this ROM to my hermes, it all works great but my bars with Calendar, Contacts and Start didn't change color... Thoes are still green and the rest of rom is gray and good looking.
Did I do something wrong, or should I just flash again?

Keyboard bug
Hi,
First of all, thanks for this perfect rom, I was looking for this simple Kaiser Stock ROM since months and months.. Thanks again.
However I've noticed that the keyboard mapping of this rom is for Kaiser. You've the issue with the caracters @, !, ;, etc...
is it possible to fix it with a reg update, or with a new rom?
also, is it possible to add 3G video call?
thanks again for your answer and specially for this rom
Is a radio included with this ROM? The file looks to be much smaller than what I have flashed for the stock AT&T or TyTN (Official HTC release).
Thanks in advance!

No, its not CFC compressed, at least not that I'm aware of.
I installed it, boots and looks mostly OK, but for me neither IE, not Task Manager start - they just show the hourglass (or how should we call the new rotating thing?) icon and never actually start.
Going back to trashcan's 28008 for now.
ie??
why ie? put it skyfire or opera. skyfire has flash and is what I am currently running. I like the tabs in opera though. I had both running for a while and switched back and forth but then skyfire got a new update and it just blew opera away! put skyfire in and don't even mess with ie!

Just like Windows, removing IE from Windows Mobile causes more problems then its worth. Though I do agree, Skyfire and Opera are the way to go however I'm just going for a base rom with just the bare necessities for it to function. No extra programs or anything.
"by the balls" as they say
I gotcha. Keep up the great work!
Haha yeah. Thanks.
Sorry about IE and Task Manager not working, turns out they got corrupted while I was doing something earlier. I replaced the AT&T boot animations while I was at it too. Still working on the USB problem unfortunately.

IE rendering engine powers much of WM interface - for example whole messaging app is built on top of html + activeX... you can't really get it out and have a functioning device.

Cool, those two work now.
Some issues I've noticed:
1. No Media Player, so if I click 'Play all songs' in Home Screen - phone hangs, if I double click music file - app hangs.
2. 'Getting started' item in Home Screen can't remove itself - app hangs (can be fixed by Home Screen Customizer of course).
Some apps that would be cool to have by default:
1. Microsoft My Phone - good for restoring files and makes initial setup easier.
2. Marketplace
I'm with you on leaving out as much as possible. Build a lean and stable base and we can install our own favorite apps.
Why did you go with build 23xxx instead of 28xxx? I'm not up on the differences. Just curious.
Have you tried using a 0 (dynamic) page pool? I really like having as much free ram as posible. I actually got rid of the trashcan rom mostly because Windows kept running out of ram and closing Opera or Flexmail for me.

WMP probably has the same problem as IE and Task Manager had. I'll fix that for the next rom. Gonna have to look into the Getting started thing.
I'm aiming for a lite build rom that doesn't have any extras, this way people can customize as they see fit and not have to deal with apps they don't use or be forced into someone else's preferences. I'll make some cab files for apps that I leave out such as MyPhone, Marketplce, the WM widgets or Livesearch.

Yep this way mostly everyone will be happy and the rom (hopefully) runs as smoothly as possible at the very core.
Decided to try going a different route than trashcan's 28xxx roms. Also I noticed that the 28xxx branch hasn't had any new builds since 28232 back in Feb, where as the 23xxx branch is still coming out with new ones. Though frankly I don't see much differences between them and unfortunately there isn't any sort of changelog for these builds. The 23xxx seems to handle the MMS in Messaging differently then from what I remember in 28xxx or maybe trashcan's rom just did it differently.
I was unaware we could even do dynamic page pool (first time chef, can't be helped =x) I guess I could try it out as a separate rom for the more adventurous. In theory it should speed things up and free up ram...I'll check it out.
Glad to see progress! The only thing I would really like to see is if you can find a nicer calculator to put into the Epix. The calculator on te epix now looks like somehing straight from WM5.

I totally support this. I only noticed these two, since they make it easier to bootstrap the phone and install all the other apps (actually just Marketplace would be enough, since it can install the latest My Phone). But I'm totally fine with installing Marketplace from the SD card .
Regarding Media Player - yes, look similar to IE/Taskman problem. It also does not exist in Start Menu. I do see it in Windows folder, but it would not start.

I don't think Marketplace and MyPhone should be in ROM, because they are often updated and updates are mandatory - which means that after about a month, you will still have to redownload Marketplace and MyPhone, otherwise they will be old and won't let you do anything except upgrade.
(Also, I don't use them much, I do upgrading via Sprite Backup, so I prefer clean ROM).
Fenrir, I tried the fixed beta2, and I think we still have the battery problem - my epix (about 3 month old 1800 mAh battery) lasted about 20 hours of use with only occasional checking of e-mail and web - approx. 1 hour of those twenty, otherwise it was connected to 3g, but in standby and with no data downloading - I don't have a direct comparison or benchmark, but I think that it lasted about 2 days with trashcans rom and similar usage.
I'll keep using your rom, and will post more findings about battery.
BTW, thanks for fixed IE! That was quite a serious bug, because since I (or some app) tried to load it, the start menu stopped opening. Now it is OK.

I use both XP and 7, though for the purposes of flashing and cooking ROMs I use XP only. I'm using the Omnia kitchen. Technically any Omnia kitchen should work, but I've had mixed results. osKitchen would've worked and did create a bootable ROM but it caused problems since it assumed it was Omnia's resolution. You should be using Grandprix for the flashing, I guess I'll update the first post with instructions for those who have forgotten. Here's a link to the kitchen I'm using: Link
Mid way through April I was thinking chances are nothing's gonna be released, maybe I should finally attempt to cook a ROM myself. Fortunately I was successful with help of course.

Turns out WMP did infact have the same problem. I forgot to put WMP in the start menu list, so I'll be sure not to leave it out again. I'm going to try to fix a few more things before I post an updated ROM so please bare with it in the meantime.

Hmmm on the bright side at least it wasn't as bad as the first beta ROM. I'm not sure what else I can do to improve it aside from some registry edits but I'll look around and see what I can do. Unfortunately I cancelled my data plan a few months ago so I don't have any way of testing myself, and these past few days I've just been home studying away or working on the ROM so not much usage on my phone. Keep me updated on the battery.
Haha yeah the IE was a pretty bad one.
Edit: Oh yeah I forgot I found some other minor problems as well. Phone canvas with the keypad shows an unnecessary scroll bar. Also in-call screen, top row middle button which is suppose to be the Mute button is blank and not working. Both fixed in upcoming ROM. Getting started refuses to work properly so I'll end up pulling it out, rather put the efforts into fixing other things. I doubt anyone uses it but the built in Help (Windows Mobile) will be gone as well if I choose to take this route.
Edit2: Dunno if anyone has noticed and I neglected to mention this, but the only 'extra' app I've put into the ROMs is a finger keyboard, same one that heineken uses in his ROMs. Its an SIP keyboard so to switch to it either go to Input in settings or press and hold the keyboard button and then select Finger Keyboard. Originally I was just messing around and trying it out, but I'll leave it in if people like it. Though probably unnecessary with our QWERTY keyboards =\

October 3rd, 2010:
Version 7.0 Changes from 6.0:
-Switched to Office Mobile 2010
-Added Titanium theme "Windows Mobile 7" by Dan.
++++This removes "Phone / Voicemail / Text Messages" items from the Titanium Home Screen - replaced with Notifications.
++++To make a phone call, you can choose Phone from the Start Menu or the Notifications Pane, or press the green hardware button on the phone itself.
-Removed Titanium Customizer
-Added CHome Editor
-Added Titanium plugins (these can be individually disabled using CHome Editor):
++++Comm Manager
++++Titanium Weather (was added / removed in the past, but if you don't want it you can Disable it!)
++++Notifications (missed call, voice mail, sms, email) - this replaces the TEXT, PHONE, and VOICEMAIL items in this theme. Select any of these to compose new text, make a call, etc...
++++Facebook / Facebook IM
++++Favorite People contact shortcuts (customizable / can rename appearance on Titanium)
++++Application Shortcuts (note some applications shown by default were not included and may be added to a future build)
++++Office Mobile 2010 Shortcuts (note: Office Communicator not included)
-Added HTC Audio Manager
-Added MortScript
-Added IETools
-Added SQLCE3.0
-Added System files needed for Voice Command (some apps can now take advantage of Voice Commands).
-Switched to more plugin-compatible version of HTC Jade Album
-"Conneting" Data notification disabled by defalut.
-Added MINLA 2D interface: note: I know practically nothing about Manila - I got it to work, my city was already in the weather databse, I don't know how to add cities, etc... don't ask me, I can't help you! For help, visit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554857
++++To enable Manila2D, Click Start > Settings > Home Screen, move right to ITEMS, and Select TouchFLO (note, the TouchFlo cube is NOT included with this build).
-Added many more programs to NVogue Care Pack:
++++Swype for Vogue (install 1st)
++++Swype for Vogue QVGA Theme (install 2nd) - must be installed.
++++Microsoft MyPhone latest
++++Opera Mobile (small, very fast, but sends your info to Opera proxy for processing) latest
++++Opera Mini (Forces your phone to do the work that Opera Mini's proxy would do, but protects your privacy) latest
++++Google Maps latest
Most impressive about NuVogue 7.0? Even with all of these new features (Titanium Plugins, Manila2D, etc...) the phone still boots EXTREMELY qickly. The "First Boot after flash" will take a little longer, but once everything is properly installed and you're using the phone day-to-day, NuVogue 7.0 is still extremely fast and stable!
As with 6.0 - to free up space on your device, you can delete the entire folder for the NuVogue Care Pack - it will warn you that these are system files, but will cause no problems if deleted.
>>>DIRECT DOWNLOAD 7.0<<<note - this bad boy is whopping 92.3MB!

September 19th, 2010:
Version 6.0 Changes from 5.0:
-Back to Glossy 1 column 6-Button COMM Manager from earliest builds of NuVogue.
-Added latest Facebook client.
-Added Pocket Uno to Games.
-Added HTC Performance (Start\Settings\System\Performance) supposedly compatible with HTC Vogue.
++Allows changes CPU clock speed from 400Mhz-constant to 300-520Mhz-dynamic (not responsible for any damage that may result from use). Can also overclock to 624 Mhz, but I do not suggest this.
-INTRODUCING THE NuVogue Care Pack!!!: CAB files that cause problems or when "pre-installed" or that some users may have no need for - but saved in the phone's "NuVogue Care Pack" directory so you can install them with no need to download! PLEASE feel free to suggest future additions to the Care Pack! This is to save you time with repeated downloads from your phone!
+++HTC Touc Input CAB - EZ Input SIP (better keyboard than the one cooked in to the build).
+++Windows Live Client for Windows Mobile (latest version).
+++Windows Mobile Marketplace Bootstrap (installs the small file which will donwnload the latest Windows Mobile Marketplace).
++++WinMoSquare - latest beta version of Touchality's Foursquare client for Windows Mobile.
NOTE: Once you have the CABs installed or if don't want to install ANY of these, you can simply delete the entire folder from the root of the phone. It will warn you that these are considered "system files" but it will cause no problems, stability issues, or errors when starting the phone. You are free to delete the folder to free up space on your phone!
---FYI from 5.0 - with SmartDialer added, it will auto-complete email addresses in the default or Windows Live for Windows Mobile Phone E-Mail clients.

Version 5.0 Changes:
-Included EZInput SIP. THANKS LMILLER!!! (note, I still recommend the slightly updated version from the URL above)
-Added SmartDialer
-Back to 6-Button COMM Manager from Diamond (no wifi in the device, no need for 10-button). (this will change probably back to the one from 1.0-3.0 in a future build).
-Removed HTC GPS Routing Tool
I have been experimenting with adding BatteryStatus / HomeScreen Plus Plus, but since I use Titanium and not Manila it doesn't seem to work too well - and have no ability to overclock (which is why I wanted the software in the first place). I have removed it from 5.0 but am considering it for future builds.

__________
June 27th, 2010, NuVogue 1.0
This ROM is speedy, has the purportedly revised version of Internet Explorer, but most importantly is EXTREMELY stable. Reboots seem optional, and I haven't had a single freeze with this build - with a previous ROM I was using, it would seem stable until I used Task Manager to endtask a few things - that would cause it to freeze. I haven't been able to make this freeze yet!
NuVogue1.0
WM Build 28014
Built with PPCk-BuildOS.
Special thanks to JustPCTech for his support and the contribution of the SMS 2016 Timestamp fix.
Also, thanks to PPCKitchen.org user Mattsm for support and advice!
To install, follow the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592964
This ROM is CARRIER GENERIC, so don't forget to install your carrier CAB or else data won't work. ( Downloads: http://winbreak.com/winmo/voguegoodies/ ).
Includes SMS 2016 Timestamp Fix
Does NOT include Manila, if you wish to install it, you can choose your favorite flavor. Rumor is the one at the following URL is good:
http://www.bytetips.com/manila-3d-for-qvga-device/
I cannot confirm the reliability of the above linked program since I don't use Manila (thus the reason I have not included it with my build). The rest of the build is as follows.
Default Vogue 8-Button Comm Manager
Total Commander File Manager for Registry Editing
HTC Vogue Camera / HTC Album 2.5
.NET CF 3.5
Dialer from HTC Diamond
Default HTC Touch Keyboard, but if you install your own, I have included SIP Changer.
HTC Task Manager 2.1 & XButton
Titanium Customizer
Windows 6.5 Widgets (Weather, MSN Money, Live Search)
Long End Keypress - Hold END to Toggle things like Airplane Mode, to Lock The Phone, etc...).
Adobe PDF
Office Mobile / OneNote Mobile (I chose this older version intentionally because if you have purchased Office Mobile 2010 from the Mobile Marketplace, it will do an in-place upgrade with no errors).
Games (just because): Kevtris, Pocket Sand, Pocket Snake, Frogger, Bubblebreaker & Solitaire.

Congrats on the release! Why did you choose such an old build, if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks!
Well, in my head, the build number was higher, so I figured it was newer. It wasn't until after I was tinkering with different builds that I learned a little bit more of how the numbering system worked.
Still, the more I tinkered with different build numbers, flashing some basically "naked" ROMs on to my phone, just to play with them for a day at a time or so, the more I really started to like this one.
Simply put, STABILITY was my biggest issue, and this build seems to have it!
I just hope others tinker with it for a little while, I don't expect to be the new chef around here, 1.0 might be my only release! But I thought I'd toss it out there to see if anyone was interested.
NuAngel
Okay Start
This is a nice start. However, some annoyances:
Did you notice the quick menu where the clock is? It isn't accessible.
The dialer is not aligned when I type in some numbers.
Have you've tried other HTC Applications?
HTC Calculator, HTC Album has better scrolling by the way. Perhaps you would love that, etc.
I hope you have not given up. Are you going to progress on this build?
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! Yeah, I noticed a few problems with the dialer as I was using it - unfortunate, because it's my favorite for ease of 'redialing' someone after a disconnect. Which happens between my girlfriend and I alot!
Also, with the quick menu, I noticed the problem (as seen in the first screenshot) - but don't know how to go about fixing it, yet. I'll look in to alternate albums and the like, and adding calculator.
I did want to update the thread and say that yesterday was my first reboot in 8 days!
NuAngel
Prowess,
Thanks again for the feedback - I have released a version 2.0 if you're intersted in checking it out. I kept the album that I have because I actually really like it. But other than that, I took quite a few suggestions that you made, you can see the change log for 2.0 above.
NuAngel
Nice ROM!
Flashed v2.0 yesterday and so far, so good. Keep up the good work!
Dial-bug
Very clean.
What I've done is I went to dial in my voice-mail. So I pressed the send key (green button) to open dial-pad. Pressed and hold 1 to get to voice-mail. It says to enter password, but I couldn't hear it well so I went to switch off dial-pad to get to speakers and turned them on. But I wasn't able to get there because twice, I've tried and froze, only the woman kept on saying 'please enter password' until it hung up. Tried getting back but the only option was the reset bottom button.
I've tried too many ROMS and was thinking that one day I will take in the knowledge to create one myself. Thanks for the inspiration,
Hey, Prowess! You're absolutely right, no ROM may ever be exactly what you're looking for until you decide to do your own. I look forward to trying to what you'll be releasing!
What's interesting was I tried to mimmick your problem - I could switch the speakerphone off and on a few times on different phone calls. However, one time, I was able to freeze up the phone when I tried to hide the dial pad, but I have succesfully hidden it multiple times to use the swap or speakerphone or other buttons (as seen in the screenshot above). Very strange.
Overall, the fastest way to switch the speaker off and on is to click the menu icon at the bottom right of the screen (to the left of the "X") then press up a few times to turn speakerphone on.
I'll keep tinkering to see what happens with this problem... I certainly haven't settled on a particular dialer. I appreciate the feedback!
NuAngel
Nice, and very fast boot. Some issues I like addressed next go is the dialer. love the big dial buttons. But it over laps your contacts that it tries to match the number with. And hard to see the number you are dialing in the top right hand corner. Especially at night. because it's dark blue. I would suggest white. But my biggest thing is the Keyboard. Would love to see a nicer one besides the defaults But besides that. A great fast bootable ROM. Thanks for the hard work man
Been trying to find out what keyboard was used in the Baroqi44's release. I'd LOVE to add that keyboard, but have no idea what it was. Any keyboard suggestions?
I've been tinkering with other dialers, but haven't found a good 'different' one - considering going back to the default Vogue dialer.
Currently I'm running Android and beta testing some software for a Germany company, so I have sort of put this project on a short hiatus, but I will be back to it soon.
Thanks for your feedback, ern88, and I'm glad you enjoy the boot speed! Thanks hope you enjoy the stability, too!
NuAngel
Hey NuAngel,
I haven't had any stability issues to report. Runs great. I am just impressed how fast it boots from start up. Hopefully future builders will take some pointers on what you have done in the aspects. ABout the keyboard, too bad you couldn't use something modeled after an apple iphone keyboard. But anything besides stock would be great. Thanks again
Updated with v. 3.0! Also, added a new SIP for download here:
name: HTC_Touch_Input_QVGA2.1.2014.cab

Sent you a PM
Hello,
Just tried out the 3.0 ROM tonight, it looks pretty sharp. I have a few quick questions and comments.
Do Sprint customers need to install the mmssprint.cab Sprint MMS settings fix?
Is there a way to access the Block Recognizer input? (I was a Palm user for many years.)
Thanks for the feedback!
You should still use the mmssprint.cab file (If you need it, I have it hosted on my web page) for Sprint. If you don't install it, the only difference I've noticed, so far, is that when you get an SMS message, it will just be some garbled text with a link you can click in to take you the the sprint page - instead of "click to view" showing up as it does when you have the patch installed. Either way, you can still click the link and go to the web address, so I actually don't even bother installing it half of the time, on my own phone.
As far as block recognizer, it was removed from HTC products in Windows Mobile 6.5, from everything I've read. I don't know how to get it back, but after reading a large chunk of another thread, I found this post, where the user offers links to a couple of 3rd party programs that may work for you, and this post which has the WM6.1 "Block recog.cab" file which may or may not work for Touch 6.5 ROMs. Sorry I can't be of more help with that! I'll try to see if I can add it to any future releases, if I get another working phone in the near future.
NuAngel
Thanks to Does_It_Matter, this project will be back on track shortly. Stay tuned!
NuAngel
Installed this ROM, and it is very stable. It doesn't freeze up as often as other ROMS.
My only preferences, and perhaps you can help with, would be
-to revert back to the stock taskbar on the top, which allowed easy switching of programs
-be able to customize where camera photos are stored, etc. (perhaps it has this function, but I am unable to find it)
The biggest issue (and only one really, congrats!) is that I am having issues with the swype keyboard on your ROM. I've tested it with others, but Nuvogue seems very delayed and gives double suggestions (above the typing area, and also within a box). I'm not sure if this is an issue with the keyboard or the ROM, but it's the only thing that is preventing me from making this my permanent ROM.
btw, I really appreciate the late nights put into making these ROMs, and thank you for making such a stable one.
I'll try cooking Swype directly in a future build to see if it solves your problem. I, myself, prefer the EZKeyboard I point to in the original post - it's my favorite for Windows Mobile.
I sincerely appreciate your feedback, I'm doing a LOT of work to make 4.0 a big release, so I really hope it has everything you like and then some! As always, my biggest personal goal is increased stability, above all features. I hate rebooting my phone: you should, too! Once 4.0 is released, I look forward to your feedback about how Swype works for you, as well.
NuAngel
Just wanted to update everyone on the bad news that makes 4.0 a bit more lack luster than I really wanted.
First, I wanted to make a different build of WM6.1 style with the Start Menu on the TOP of the screen - but I can't get a stable enough build for all the things I want to do, and since Stability is my primary objective, it was sad.
Second, I am unable to cook in ANY new keyboards (SIPs), so I cannot add EZInput or Swype - and my research has shown that Swype is not very compatible with this particular build of Windows Mobile, very sorry!
Tip: for easy task switching, go to SETTINGS, then PERSONAL, then BUTTONS and assign the Camera Button to launch Task Manager instead of the camera... how often do you use camera that it's not just easier to go into the Start Menu, when you could make that button your Task Manager shortcut! Very easy!
