[Q] Kernels - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I was wondering which kernel would be best for keeping the battery alive longest?
Stock, or one of the custom ones? If so which custom one?
Using leeroids 1.2 at the moment.

apaches buzz kernels are better on ur battery in comparison to stock kernels as his kernels are undervolted (using less for same performance as stock). Also using a governor like smartass (included in buzz kernel) helps save battery life.

[Q] how do i choose the best kernel ??

hey guys
i have just flashed the leedroid rom, and i want to flash the latest kernel since kernels optimize the performance and speed... the thing is that i dont know how to choose kernels, and which one fits my rom and phone, add to the consequences of installing kernels...
i hope anyof u could help, or link me to any thread...
thanks in advance
As far as I know, snq is the only one who has updated the kernel for sense roms. But try them out.
Thank u
I didn't find it in everything desire thread
I would propose some explanation abt the reason of changing vilolts and wut does kernels improve exactly

A kernel controls a lot of stuff and can be important. You can change stuff like CPU speed, performance increases. I don't know exactly what a kernel does.
Here's the link for snqs kernel. No idea why it isn't in the desire everything thread.

[Q] Gingerbread Kernels that Support OC/UV

Hi there, I'm running Oxygen 2.1.6. on my Desire, and I'm trying to squeeze a little bit more out of my battery, and owning a Galaxy S as well, with the Galaxy, there are Kernels that Support OC/UV.
I'm wondering if there are any good kernels for Oxygen 2.1.6 (Gingerbread) that support OC/UV Thanks.
snq- 0.6 kernel supports oc/uv I think
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I saw those, but I'm unfamiliar with how to flash these files. I'm used to having a zip file to either flash in CWM, or in Odin ( which the desire doesn't use)
The files in SNQ's are Z-images and .ko's...
I'm more familiar with the more n00b way of flashing kernels :X terribly sorry.

That is a Sense kernel. It is sometimes better not to write anything than to post an erroneous info. And furthermore, uv doesn't work properly with it.

What more do you want from Oxygen? Thalamus kernel supports both uvoc and is probably most efficient kernel as is.
Flash newest oxygen with newest kernel. And I am pretty sure, you will be very happy it. I tested many rom/kernel combinations with software like setcpu und low-voltage-scripts. With oxygen I only reduced maximal cpu frequeny to 768 mhz and min 245 mhz with the included cpu controller and do not get a worse battery life with other roms.
Nice, I'll give it a test. Thanks

[Q] how to overclock HTC Wildfire?

HI,
I want to overclock my HTC Wildfire for batter gaming performance. My device details:
Rooted and running SUnAabh v1.1 ROM
Baseband: 13.55.55.24h_3.35.20.10
kernal 2.6.32.21-g0f9e.... tue noc 30.....
Build Number: vibhu's rom froyo
I am have used SetCPU app but it not working ?
Can any one tell me how to overclock my device.
Thanks
Overclocking wont do much good in terms of gaming performance. Our device lacks gpu which is why games don't work as they should.
Overclocking needs an overclockable krenal. I am using kwbr rom which is sense based as is sunaabh. I use rempuzzle kernal for overclocking on this rom. You can get it from the rempuzzle thread. Alternatively you can use Hcdr kernal.
guys please stop posting in the wrong thread...this is the development thread...move it to the the thread......
and kindly try to use the search button....it solves all your quarries
Has this thread changed section or was I that sleepy I didnt notice it when I replied?? Wierd

Use Cyanogenmod... Performance options (which include overclocking) are integrated inside the rom. Easy as 1 2 3
I want to overclock my device on same ROM, what I need to do ?
Can overclocking improve the games performance ?
I am playing Tekken 3 on my HTC Wildfire Buzz, by using FPse emulator and ISO image of game.
so u have root, and a custom rom. The only thing u are missing is a custom kernel, i think. Flash a kernel that supports your rom and can be overclocked. Than setcpu will work.
The game will run maybe a bit smoother. a gain of 1-5 fps hopefully. Maybe more, but i dont know for sure.

Wow this is an old rom, not seen this pop up for a time.
I used to use fpse(the whole reason i rooted my phone lol) and too played tekken.
Overclocking does help a little but dont expect to be pulling off special moves lol as response is not great even at highest o/c. Mess around with fps in the game/app (cant remember how it works) i think i used 25/30 i got it running quite good at one point but still laggy.
P. S stick with a sense based rom for fpse as it works best on sense on wildfire.
So can you tell me what's new and stable ROM for HTC Wildfire that improve performance.
What I need to do for fast and smooth play of Tekken 3 ?
Reduce frame rate or anything like that ?
Or can you recommend me any good game of PS3 that smoothly run on HTC Wildfire ?
Thanks
Trial and error really but 1st i would flash an o/c kernel. Head to dev section sticky, complete wildfire guide and try jacob flash to any rom kernel or rempuzzle thread and flash rempuzzle kernel.
Then its about testing which values work best for you,use setcpu to adust carefully as setting o/c too high has been known to cause boot loop for some. Go up in settings in parts not straight into 768.good start would be 633 test, then 652 test...... Etc etc
Ive already mentioned about framerate so test different values along with o/c values.
There is only one sense rom. I personally recommend and that is rempuzzle.
Thats it you have to do the rest lol. Goodluck, hope it goes smooth.

Hi
Below is the link to Wildfire complete list of ROM, Kernel etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
Scroll down to Kernel list section to to choose the kernel that match your rom.
For Sense Froyo ROM alternatively you can use Rempuzzle Kernel to OC

Check the ADD ON section and Package 02.

[Q] lupus v10 with stock 587 rom

Hi
I have a question for what I did not find a straightforward answer;
Some back story: I have an Xperia Arc S with stock .587 rom, I wanted to unlock it so I payed on a site to unlock it with point test {if this is the correct way to say it}, the simlock was removed 'yaay' and they also unlocked the bootloader. so a few days back I wanted to play around with kernels and roms, tried lupus with xperia hd 3.0.2, I didn't like it, don't ask why, and I wanted to return to stock, I messed up, soft bricked the phone...long story short, today I resolved the problem and I managed to install the stock rom again.
TL;DR; Can you use the Arc S stock rom with Lupus v10 kernel ? and does anybody have any experience with it ? worth ?
Thank you
If you have any other kernel suggestion that would come in handy too :fingers-crossed:
Greetings from Hungary.

As an old Arc S user, I'll tell from my own experiences..
Using Lupus or any custom made kernels that are made with the purpose to give you overclock options and alternative CPU Governors on stock & non-rooted ROM.. It isn't worth it, because you will not see any difference in performance.
Tweak and debloat .587 ROM in case you are going to use Lupus kernel, I am saying.

Sound interesting, I mean I don't really care about performance, that much, the only thing that I noticed with Lupus kernel {or I guess whatever kernel} is the battery life increase.
I'm still thinking and searching the forum to find a good answer, I have no problem with the stock kernel + rom, but if a custom kernel would give the same performance + better battery life that would definitely help
ps I have no idea how to tweak and debloat[ i don't even know what that is] :silly:

Well, battery life can increase if you are using the right CPU governor and I/O Schelduer (spelling?).
But the increase in your prefered option (BATTERY LIFE) isn't that big on an extended functionality custom kernel, I think, on stock & bloatwared ROM. It can be even worse.. Some battery tweaks in build.prop and some init.d power saving tweaks / scripts can help perhaps.
Best is to try it yourself! Be aware of partial wakelocks, Sony got some bad behaviour with applications that wakes up your Arc S..

Kernel for stock kitkat 4.4.2?

Hi all, today I unlocked boot loader and rooted my nexus 7 2013 WiFi. At the moment I am sticking to stock ROM until I get more internet data from my ISP then I can flash a custom ROM.
Anyway what kernel would you recommended for stock KitKat 4.4.2 ROM in the mean time, or is it not worth changing and I'm better just waiting to flash custom ROM+kernel?
I was hoping for a more performance based one and would like to overclock both CPU and GPU, of course performance+battery contradict each other but if I could also have good-very good battery life and faster performance then even better.
Also what apps are you using for over clocking CPU/GPU?
Please suggest thanks

Best ROM/kernel threads are frowned upon at XDA.
As far as overclocking app, I use Tasker. I use it for setting the kernel tunables also.
kernel
I use elementalx with stock. Great performance and battery life.
