I have the drivers installed on my laptop for my rooted evo .The question I have is will they work to use unrevoked on another evo with the 3.29 update? Just don't want to install different drivers and mess with the hotspot.
drivers as in adb? htc diagnostic? USB? but the answer to you question is yes.

As part of installing unrevoked3 we install drivers on the PC which I believe have been hacked to do the root. After successfully rooting the phone (and installing unrevoked forever) should we revert to the stock device drivers since I assume we'll never need the hacked ones again, or is it fine to keep using the hacked ones?
They weren't hacked... They were the drivers your phone needed to communicate while in the bootloader.... They only show up if you boot in the bootloader mode...
When rooting, do you still have to install these drivers first?

As of Jan. when I rooted my DINC you still needed the drivers. If I'm not mistaken, the drivers are required to let you/computer talk to the phone.
I wanted to install a custom rom on my Wildfire and I succeeded, but I realized that I didn't install hacked Hboot drivers. At first I thought they were not needed, because I used Alphrev X beta to S-OFF my phone. Are there things that could go wrong in the future, if I did something wrong?

Hacked hboot drivers are to be installed in pc right. They are the drivers for pc to interact with a phone in fastboot mode. Installing custom Rom is entirely done from phone without even connecting to pc right . Then why is the need of those drivers for installing custom roms. Not at all needed.
Hacked hboot drivers are needed for alpharevx process in Windows pc only. And I think if HTC driver (not HTC sync) is installed they are also not needed. I think HTC driver includes hacked hboot drivers.
I have used usb tethering and adb and fastboot flashing (of recovery, boot, system, data, splash and other things) only with HTC driver installed. I never installed hacked hboot drivers seperately. Although I haven't done alpharevx process in windows environment to confirm that.

btw i used a windows pc, i installed htc sync and then deleted it and after that i just tried to S-OFF my wildfire etc.

They won't give you any problems with installing and using custom roms.
And you have already used alpharevx. The errors with the drivers will be either they will do the process successfully or they will completely interrupt the process. No long term effects.

I think HTC driver will be enough in windows platform. No drivers needed for Linux. And you can try that with just installing HTC driver first. A lack of driver will never brick your device. And if HTC driver is not enough then you can go with installation of hacked hboot drivers. And uninstall HTC sync if present.
Actually, I have done the process in Linux OS which is more compatible over windows.

Hi everyone, I need a little help here, I tried searching and couldn't find anything. So here I go.
My friend has a Desire from Altel which is at 2.1-update1, and band 2.05.10.08.11
I am trying to gather information so I can root it for him. Like previously stated it is a Altel CDMA model stuck on 2.1 and I can't get the unrevolked to see the phone. what is the method to rooting this phone? Could someone point me in the right direction? Do I have to update it with the CDMA RUU version 2.36.605.1 from Verison?

Are you sure you have the correct USB drivers installed? If you dont have the usb drivers installed (or the wrong one), unrevoked wont be able to see your Desire. I thought Unrevoked needed custom usb drivers by unrevoked themself.
