You could just move your apps back to internal memory and then swap out the card and reformat.

I think its even easier:
Dismount SD card, remove and insert in PC, copy its contents and then copy them to your new card. Insert new card.
That's what I did when I formated my card when I was suspicious it had errors. No need to move data to memory.

[Q] Gold card question

I have a debranded Desire 2.2 which is not rooted. Inside my phone i have an 8gb sd card which contains data for many apps as i use adb push apps to sd.
To debrand my phone, i created a gold card from a seperate 2gb sd card.
My question is; Is there any way i can make my main sd card into my gold card without affecting any of my apps which i have stored on it? The reason i am asking this is that i require my gold card for any future updates and this will save a great deal of hassle with reinstalling applications everytime i require an update.
When I made a gold card (didn't actually need it in the end to debrand BTW using unrevoked). I couldn't access it as a normal SD card... Would be nice to know how to do this. I have a 4GB Gold card (which is pretty much useless), and a 8GB ext3/FAT32 card!

If you copy all the files on you card to another location, format the card, make a gold card, and copy the files back, all should be fine

I follwed the process absolutely for making this, and replace the 000-0170 lines, but the disk was not readable in Windows.. Any idea what I did wrong?

[Q] Changing SD cards

My Desire originally came with a 2 GB card (yeah, sucks!) and I've ordered a 16 GB SDHC and is expected to be delivered anytime this weekend.
I do have some apps moved from phone memory to the 2 GB SD card.
How do I go about replacing the 2 GB card with the new 16 GB card WITHOUT losing any of my apps already installed?
Is there a procedure to be followed??
Thanks!
If you just used the stock FroYo A2SD, move them back to the phone and then copy the contents of the SD card to the new one and boot up...you may even be able to just copy the lot as it is but I don't know if it'll check on boot to make sure the data is correct

Yup, used the stock FroYo's A2SD feature. The glitch here is I have very low memory on the Phone memory. Would copying the contents of the 2GB card and moving it to the new 16 GB card retain the apps? [Sounds pretty weird to me, but, just wanna confirm from the experts here]
Also, if I do not wish to retain anything from the older memory card, is it mandatory to copy the contents to the new memory card?
Thanks!
Yes, as said, if you are using the stock A2SD all the apps will be working normally just by copy/paste.
And as for what will happen if you don't copy the contents - system apps/stuff will make their folders by themselves, in other words the phone will be working fine, but the apps that you have installed and are moved to the SD will not work.

So the best option would be to move the apps from SD card to phone memory, as many as apps as possible and copy the contents of the SD card to a folder on the PC.
After replacing the SD card, move the copied folder and move all the movable apps to SD card..
Am I right there?
Thanks..
I've used Froyo A2SD before I got myself a new 16gb card and just by copy/paste I didn't get any problems. So you should be fine too, without the hassle of moving/coping/moving back.
Do this, you will need a card reader and a micro to normal sd card adapter:
1. Turn off Desire
2. Take out microSD card and put it into the card reader using the micro to normal adapter
3. Copy the contents of the card to your PC
4. Swap the old card for the new one
5. Copy the information back to the new card
6. Put new microSD card into Desire
7. Turn it on
Hopefully it will just work as normal
Hi Eddy, I'm not sure this is necessary as I've done it without readers and adopters.
I simply copied them to the pc then changed the sd card plugged the phone to the pc with the new card, run a full format (even if the OS does make folders on the card, like "LOST.DIR", ".android_secure, etc just overwrite them) and then placing my data back on the card.
Or am I missing something?
Only reason I say to do it that way Is as otherwise Android might have a hissy fit about the apps moved to the SD not being there. I've not tried to change SD cards as I've had my 16GB card from the off but if it works then fair enough!! I just prefer to do things as I highlighted so I know there's as little chance of things going wrong as possible (I'd actually wipe the phone and start everything again but that's just me )
Thanks EddyOS and 3722. I'll do this tomorrow and let you know guys..
Cheers!
Set up my new 16 GB card today.. Tried both the suggestions individually and cross checked to ensure that everything was all right.. Both the methods work just perfectly.. Direct copy & paste and using the micro to normal adapter.. Perfect!
Thanks guys!
Cheers!

[Q] New SD card...

Hey all,
I have a new 32 gb micro sd for my G2. I have a couple of questions.
1. do I have to unmount the original 8 gb card prior to taking it out?
2. What are the ramifications if I don't unmount it?
3. do I have to format the new card after it's in the phone?
4. I have unchecked all the apps so that none are storing on the SD card. Is there a way to move the remaining data from the SD card to the phone?
5. Is it possible to "Clone" the data from the current SD card to the new one?
Thx
Mark

1. No need to unmount, since you'll need to remove the battery anyway to insert the new card.
2. Nothing
3. Would be best
4. Copy and paste contents to new card
5. See 4
Hey A&D
Thx for the quick reply ...
So can I Simply plug the phone into the computer, copy everything that shows up under the directory for the phone to th computer ...then copy it all back to the new SD card once I install it in the phone?
Also, when the phone is plugged into the computer and shows up as storage am I only seeing data on the SD card or is it showing data on the internal memory as well?
Thx
Mark

Yes, that should work. If you have any apps installed to the SD card through Applications setting, I'd move them back to phone memory before you make the switch. They are stored in the .android_secure folder. Also you might want to format your new SD to FAT32 on your PC before moving your data back. But sounds like you're on the right track.
And you should not be seeing anything from internal memory while the SD is mounted.

[Q] Migrating to a new microsd card

Hello all, I have a rooted play running stock firmware 2.3.4.
I want to migrate to a bigger SD card and have done a titanium backup of my apps. However some of my apps I "moved to sd card". So my question is can I copy all my files and folders from the old sd card to my desktop and then to the new sd card? Will the apps on the sd card work just fine? Please advise. Thank you.

Worked for me. I replaced mine that way with no problem. Just make sure you copy everything, and don't wipe the old card until you test out the new one, just in case.

You don't even have to do a titanium backup, all you need to do is copy EVERYTHING, that includes hidden folders, make sure you backup android.secure folder, that's where everything you "Move to SD Card" in settings goes
All that you have to do is copy everything from your old SD card straight to your new one. I did this upgrading from an 8gb micro SD to a 32gb micro SD.

[Q] SD card swapping

Hi, I'm with a 2GB Micro SD card and I'm thinking of upgrading to a 4GB these days, but for now I'm thinking of swapping every now and then another 2GB Micro SD card because just 1 card cannot handle that many music and videos.
Has any of you tried this? Will I get any errors? I need to know first before I get it off a friend. If I format it (like wipe everything off it) and then insert it on the phone just to start the music player will it have trouble loading? Because you know, on the old SD card there are lots of folders by apps and whatnot.
yes it will have problems because some of the data are saved on the sd card ..

How about copying those files into the new SD card, there won't be any problems then, right?

if you're planning to move from a 2gb to a 4gb memory card, just copy paste the all to the files and try to make sure that you also copy the hidden (invisible files) by pressing Ctrl + A (copies all files)
