[Q] Market place troubles? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever i go to my market and select "downloads" or "my apps" i get the "a server error has occurred" message, any one else getting this?

Seems like a widespread problem. You are not alone.

I am getting this recurring error, even after a soft rest, alas, it's blocking my home screen...
Is there a way to rid my device of this pain...?!?!

I've got the same problem - go into Windows Live -> Menu -> Options -> Sync Schedule -> Manual.
This obviously disables hotmail syncing but it is a temporary workaround till this issue is resolved.

ahhh crap...i use my phone for business & cant afford not to have my email pushed to my phone...dang...guess ill have to live with it...
Thanks for the reply...
Is it new from today for both of you? Cause I have the same problem too.
If that helps: I tried to link my job mail on my cellphone and failed. Since, I keep having this message...
I'm having the same problem... Any ideas or solutions?
The same thing started happening to me today. I'm going to disable syncing right now.
I have a Kaiser, BTW; this is definitely not a TP2-specific phenomenon.

yes, this is a new occurrence for me...i was playing around w/ phone today & tapped on the windows live app, and so it began...
I've got a Tilt 1, and it's been giving me the same error today (also, an error message "sync failed" or something like that). Hopefully there's a fix soon, it's mega annoying...
This used to happen to my HTC Touch Pro 2 occasionally but lately it's been happening non stop. I don't really want to disable my automatic syncing.
Seems like if you open the windows live and let it open (Minimize it) would by pass that error message. And I still can receive email.

Confirmed that this works.
Thanks for the better workaround.
And yes this issue has only started to arise today - from about 9:00AM local time for me (about 12:00AM UTC).

ANSWERED - Facbook Contacts cannot sync.

Firstly, I'm running the rooted stock rom (OTA 1.45..). I don't know if this has been a problem SINCE I've rooted, as I don't go on facebook much, but, one of my friends, I just dded her on facebook the other day, and then noticed that it wouldn't let me link her fb account on her contact card because her fb account wasn't present in my contacts.
Anyways, whenever I try to refresh my facebook contacts, it takkes me back to the "online directories" screen with a message that says CONNECTION ERROR.
I can login to my fb just fine and things like my friendstream and the facebook app itself are ok, but, my contacts will not update at all.
Is there a file I'm supposed to flash, or what? Any help would be appreciated.
This has been discussed here and everywhere else
As of right now, their seems to be a problem with the Facebook servers. You can log into Facebook for HTC Sense fine, but it will show that you have "no friends". When you attempt to refresh, it will just load up and then exit out of the program with the "connection failed" error.

Sorry. I've seen discussions about it, but with so many different RoMs out, I wanted to make sure it was system wide rather than one or two in-particular. Thank you though.
weird, when I try to add facebook for sense to my accounts sync, it says warning the service is curently unavailable. do you want to try again? and never works.
Nothing new. It's been broken for over a week. It has nothing to do with being rooted.

This is the first I've heard of Facebook not working... mine has been working with no problems whatsoever. (and I'm constantly on it, refreshing all of the time) Maybe it's not as widespread as some people think?
Facebook for Android works.
Facebook for Sense is not working.
Two different things that people are getting confused. It has been down since last week. It has nothing to do with ROOT or NONROOTED phones, it has to do with Facebook's connection or server hence the "connection error" that is displayed when you try to refresh your contacts.
I'm going to take a look at logcat when I can but it doesn't seem to be a connection issue (at least with authentication). Deliberately enter the wrong password and you'll see.
An issue with Facebook none the less.

Exactly. You can log in successfully, but when it comes to getting your contacts between Facebook servers and your phone, it isn't working. Somewhere there is a disruption between the 2. Androidforums.com has been on this for a while and even the HTC.com forums have had people talking about it.
From what someone mentioned, this happened to the iPhone a few weeks ago and was successfully fixed ASAP...
Soooo, basically, we're just waiting for it to fix itself?
... ugh.

I'm sure this issue will be fixed ASAP (As Soon As Possible) too, rather than just sitting around twiddling their thumbs...
Go here this should work. Be sure to read my post as well.

The problem seems to be fixed now. I just happened to open my people app, and pow! Facebook friends and contacts were updated. Pictures, updates, everything.

[Q] Google Latitude Automatic Check-in fail

Hello,
So I'm trying to setup automated check-ins from Google Latitude. When I go in to the Location Settings, there is an option called "Automatic check-ins" when I select it, it says, "settings saved", but when I exit and go back to the menu, it's no longer is checked.
Anyone else have this issue? I'm testing it out and it doesn't update unless I manually do it.
Oh and I'm running JB (stock)

Seems to be a common problem. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=33719
So it seems... I tried Googling and didn't find a fix. I'm kinda hoping someone else here shares the same issue and knows a workaround
Helloo!! Anyone else with this particular problem?
Yup same problem here. It always asks if I want to check in, so I'll need to manually say yes. I don't think this was a issue in the previous version of maps so maybe it's a bug that will be fixed in the next release?

Some people did report seeing this in a previous version of maps...
still a problem
The tracker on Google Code (as posted above) shows some people with it resolved.
Still a problem for me, with latest maps update on CM9. It does seem like it might be a server side issue, as the menu shows "Retrieving settings..." when it is first loaded.
When I check the box, it says "Saving selection..." then "Your selection has been saved" but when I leave the menu and come back, it is unchecked again.

Jellybean SMS problem

Hi there.
When I go into messages app and make a new message I select contact but then the program drops the area code.
However if I go into the people app then select a contact, press the message button then the sms message will go through because it doesn't drop the area code..
So it is sort of annoying that I have to start messages that way. Anyone else have this?
I am running 4.1.1
Thanks

Turns out that did not fix the issue either.
I guess I am just stuck with starting sms from my people app.
i've noticed this too after the ota, seems like the Parentheses around the code confuse it(###)

Glad I am not the only one.
I also have this problem. All my contacts have parentheses () as well.

I'm also experiencing this issue with the ota update on my i9029a
Anyone solve this issue. This is happening for me too

I have had the same problem for a while now as well. The most convenient solution in my opinion is to edit the contacts by deleting the parenthesis from the number. I realize this can be tedious but at least its a one time fix instead of starting a conversation through the people app every time. I have been editing the contacts on my Gmail on my computer for convenience and then syncing to my phone. Or just keep using your phone like normal and whenever you run into a problem, just go to the contact page real quick and fix it.
I haven't tried the previously proposed solution of performing a factory reset and re-downloading contacts from the google account. I prefer my method since performing a factory reset would be very inconvenient for me.
Does anyone came up with the solution. Been experiencing the same problem also.

Huawei video notifications

Recently, out of nowhere, I started getting "Huawei video" notifications. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? I've gone through the settings, but couldn't find it. Thanks.

Thanks. Yes, that's what I normally do. But I had checked the apps list twice before posting my question, and it was not listed there. I checked again just now, and wouldn't you know it: there it was in the apps list. I must be getting senile
