ADB driver help mytouch 4g {how to} - myTouch 4G Android Development

Hey I was having a hard time getting the drivers to work with the mytouch 4g that came with the sdk so I thought I would share this.
[HOW TO] Get ADB to recognize your myTouch 4G
Options
11-08-2010 01:56 PM
Rather than reinvent the wheel, just going to "borrow" zapote21's excellent guide for setting up ADB, this time for the myTouch4G (if you're weird like me and immediately swapped out SDcards or just prefer not running exe files):
-----
I am going to assume that you have the SDK installed and that you have a clue as to what I am about to say...
If you dont understand this language, then you probably dont need to be trying to use ADB... lol
Go to the "usb_driver" folder in your SDK and find the *.inf file...
Use notepad++ to edit that file and add the following lines to the "[Google.NTx86]" and the "[Google.NTamd64]" sections:
;T-Mobile myTouch4G
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C96
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C96&MI_01
;
Save the file, reinstall drivers, and done...

or just get it here, and install. adb driver
i didnt have to use notepad or anything,
please let me know if it works for yall

Or just run the htcdriver.exe file that came on the sdcard that shipped with the phone.

BIG +1 for this worked in less than 30 seconds.

Think that was hard in windows... Getting it to work on Linux was a pain in the ass.

Yes, you have to use the line code [fastboot] instead of [adb].

so the first part of the commands using fastboot you don't do from adb shell. when you get the phone into fastboot, attach to your computer, you then open command prompt on computer and navigate directories until you are in the android sdk tools folder on your computer wherever it is (most people it is somewhere like c:/android-sdk-windows/tools/)
THEN you type
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot

no adb shell.
most people have installed adb in such a way that they can access it's tools from any directory. however, at least on my computer, fastboot commands will only work from within the android tools folder where fastboot is located.
hope this helps.

how do i transfer the files for the second part of the usb is broken?
I was following the one that has pic by pic, and got to the point where pc36 wouldn't work. Saw that with the newest version this method wouldn't work. Went to the tutorial for that workaround and started following that. I think it got mixed up in there and thought i had nand unlocked it. Went to install the new radio, checked the system info and it wasnt the new one and started to get the problems.
Think it is rooted though because i get the # in adb shell.
How does one check to see if they did unlock nand, besides of the problem causing method i did?
I believe i ****ed up the custom recovery part. When I would load custom recovery it would flicker back and forth to the stock recovery, dont know if thats normal.
update: with more searching i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7136621&postcount=128 to use a update to fix the usb.
I did this and at least now it is charging, still not connecting to computer though it will charge through comp.
Can i flash back to the stock rom now? Will that fix it? How do i flash the stock rom?
Laughed at the thread title. Is the phone messed up, or the girlfriend? Gotta love misplaced modifiers.
If in fact you are rooted, you can use this method. It will put you back to "stock" with root and all the latest updates. If your computer wont mount your phone, you may have to get a micro sd card reader and plug it directly to your usb on your computer to download the files you need. Just make sure the phone is off or you unmount the sd in settings before you remove it. Or you can download them from your phone's browser, but you'll need a file manager to move the files to the root of your sd. If that wont work, your sd card might be corrupted.

Heres how you load it to your phone...
download this to your computer and unpack and install...Android SDK | Android Developers this is ABD (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html)
Once thats downloaded...
plug your phone in to your pc using the usb cable.
on your phone
go to your settings
go to applications
development
check the usb debugging box (it must have the green check in the box)
then swipe down the notification bar
click on the usb connected
click on mount
on your pc
download the zip on in this post...decepticon.zip
open the abd and go to the tools folder.
rename the zip to bootanimation.zip
copy the and paste the zip into your tools folder in the abd
click on start
run
then type cmd in in the box ( this will bring up a black box)
now this is where some people get lost....
Where ever you saved your ABD is its location... when ABD tools folder is open look at the the browser window and copy it. that is its location remember it make a cheat sheet of it cause if you messed p a step you can just refer back to it instead of hunting all over your computer for it.
example mine is C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\android-sdk-windows\tools
In the black bock type cd then the location of your tools folder..
example...cd C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\android-sdk-windows\tools...
Then hit enter
then type..
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
it may take a second, then it will show in the black box that it had downloaded x amount in x amount of sec.
Then you can unmount your phone
Turn off your phone
then restart it...
enjoy your new animation
If I missed a step or you have a issue let me know...I am by means no expert nor do I code or anything like that. I learned how to do it from another forum just like all of you, and got lost in the process. But this is the easiest way to do it, and much easier that the way I learned

[TOOL] myTouch 4G Radio Flasher

This is my 1st actual post for development...so I hope you enjoy what I have to give!
I know this isn't long, since this isn't a ROM, so there aren't any changelogs or that kind of stuff.
Basically what this is, is a myTouch 4G radio flasher, it automatically puts your desired Radio onto you SD Card without you having to type it.

........Death before dishonor........
Seems legit to me
This is NOT an apk.
This file has a .rar extension. I have checked this package.
Two files:
1) READ THIS FIRST!.txt
Instructions!!:
1. You MUST have already downloaded AndroidSDK, if not, search it on Google.
2. MUST HAVE S-OFF FOR THIS TO WORK!
3. Download your desired Sensation Radio and rename it to PD15IMG.zip(if not already named that)
4. Put the Radio(.zip file) into your C:/AndroidSDK/platform-tools/ directory(if not, rename the SDK tools folder to AndroidSDK)
5. Once you've done that, plug your myTouch 4G in your USB port and put charge only on the phone.
6. Double-click the Batch file in the folder and wait for it to do its magic.
7. Once it's done rebooting into bootloader, wait a bit and some green lettering should come up.
8. After a few seconds, it should find the Radio, if it does, just press the Volume UP button to start the update(it's either
Volume UP or another button, should say).
9. Once update is complete, reboot and enjoy your new Radio!
Click to collapse
2) MT4G Radio Flash.bat
Code:
@echo off
title myTouch 4G Radio Flasher
color 0a
echo Putting your desired Radio onto your SD Card...
cd C:/AndroidSDK\platform-tools/
adb push PD15IMG.zip /sdcard/PD15IMG.zip
echo -----------------------------
echo Now for part 2...
echo -----------------------------
cd C:/AndroidSDK/platform-tools/
adb shell md5sum /sdcard/PD15IMG.zip
echo ---------------------------------------------------------------------
echo Now rebooting into bootloader...
echo ---------------------------------------------------------------------
cd C:/AndroidSDK/platform-tools/
adb reboot bootloader
echo DONE! :)
pause
exit
Conclusion:
This is a bat file for WINDOWS USERS.
It needs the SDK installed or adb(android debug bridge) in it's PATH!
It will only place the modified PD15IMG.zip on the sdcard so that when it reboots into bootloader/spl(second partition loader) it reads and updates the device.
**Remember, if you use this method, you must erase the PD15IMG.zip from the sdcard root directory. What happens is if you don't erase it, every time you reboot/boot into the spl, it will read the PD15IMG.zip and update it again.**

1kb file is probably just a small script... Don't judge an app like this by it's small size, text files are never really huge. If it's a script with 3 simple lines, then it makes sense.
I haven't looked at it myself... But I suggest you all keep flashing as you normally did. It's not complicated.
the thing is, why would you need an App to flash the radio when the device can do it via HBoot?
that was already strange in itself....

Moreover, the major problem is that there isn't any reference to md5 checksum whatsoever- Flashing a corrupted radio file could result in major headache.
The OP should add this into the instructions (between steps 3 and 4), and could also be nice if the script could also include md5 checking...

That'll be kinda hard since the OP has been banned (at least for now), but yeah lack of MD5 verification was the first thing I thought of when I read the description.
you know what's easy? Download all the radio files putting each one in a separate folder. Verify MD5 so you know you have good downloads. Put all those folders in a "Radio" folder on your SD card. Then you just copy the one you need into the root directory of your SD card when you need to reflash.
Not sure why you'd need a script for this.

I don't need a script for this, I was just trying to find some justification for the OP's post, which actually does almost nothing other than push a non-checked file.
Anyway, op is banned and we added to the thread a warning to check md5 for whoever reads this.. probably more than enough.

CRT Screen Off Mod

Here is an interesting article that will help you if you want CRT screen Off animation like in Nexus S:
http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/enable-crt-animation
Worked with no problems on my SGC with Rogers ROM.

Probably no. Most likely you will end up with phone freezing on the Samsung logo at boot. framework-res.apk files are not interchangeable between models, maybe not even between firmware versions for the same phone.
Can you post a step by step guide then? I can't really understand anything here
The step-by-step instructions from the link in the first post are pretty much what i did. Read the comment by ravenstark - if you mount the filesystem with root explorer there will be no need to execute the commands in red in section 8.
The instructions from the link in your post cover steps 3-7. You still have to download the file to your PC (1), decompile it (2) and upload it back to the phone once you are done with it (8).
For the first step which terminal do you use??
(Free Your Android guide)
adb. If you don't have you can download it from here. It is part of the SDK and probably the most essential tool.
The command is exactly as written there

What do you mean? If you're using a Windows PC, then just open up a cmd prompt. You should read the guides at the beginning of that page so you know how to setup adb and the apk tool.
The big picture is this. Connect your pc to computer, pull file from phone to PC using adb, modify file on PC, push file back to phone using adb.
For what it's worth, here's a thread I wrote quite a long time ago, some is not applicable for the Glide, but most of it still applies. If you're going to be mucking around in your phone it's best to know how to do a few things first. Read Before Flashing.
When I try and open SDK or AVD (what's the difference :| ) then I just get a quick terminal screen that closes.
It would be appreciated if someone could just create a flashable CWM version >_<
I hate my inexperience @ this. It keeps saying this isn't "adb" isn't recognized, but I've downloaded it! How can I check?!

Ok, so what have you done so far?
What should be done. Assuming you're using Windows, install the Android SDK. Once installed, launch the SDK Manager. Then from the list of installable options, choose the Platform Tools and I always like to get the drivers. Once done, you will have this path, CrogramFiles(x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools, now you could add this path to your variables in Windows, which would be easiest, or copy the Platform-tools folder to C:. Then plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
Now, if you added the Path to your variables, just go Start>Run>cmd, and at the cmd prompt type adb devices. If you see a device you're good.
If you copied the Platform-tools folder over, then Start>Run>cmd, and in the cmd prompt type,
C:
then
cd platform-tools
then
adb devices
Beyond that, can't really help, never use apk tool. Good luck.

Hopefully the file tcfx44 posted works for you. Either way, I highly suggest you learn how to use adb and some other tools if you plan on flashing your phone in the future. It could prove useful some day.
Will this apply over OsiMood? I really am not sure if I am using the Rogers, but apparently I am because in XDA App it says I927-R and same with a benchmark.
Doesn't work for OsI mood 2.1.30 or whatever version was released today. I don't want to give up the amazing UI and stuff of OSi. I'm working fine though, so doesn't look like the install failed or bricked. Any revisions?

You can skip steps 1-10 in the first part, and replace steps 6-7 in the second part with
Code:
forfiles /m *.apk /c "cmd /c adb install @file"
It's much easier that way.

Heyy.. I never download any APK's..! It's just that I have a really slow internet connection (I don't even have it in my PC, I use USB Tethering for all I do on the internet.) So, I can't afford to download the same apps again and again.. why to waste so much of my data by downloading every app again when changing ROMs? So, I download games and everything from the Play Store and make a backup of them in the form of APKs..

Most of my apps have two-part names like "Skype Wifi". These apps fail to install. What should I do?

Remove that space between them using a dot or an underscore or any other character. No space is allowed.
Then start the process from Step 2 again.

I do... Google Play Music... coz i can't find it in the Play Store in my region~
Btw, nice tutorial~
For people experiencing installing difficulties.
Add double quotes to the file names since sometimes there is a space between file names which causes problems parsing the name in adb install command.
Otherwise very good tutorial.
