[Q] Anyone got Swype beta working on Archos? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Themes and Apps

So I registered and whatnot at Swype's website, but when I clicked the download link, it says that I don't have an Android phone. Which is technically true, but it's still an android device.
Has anyone found a workaround for this? Or is there a way to get the apk sideloaded.
Thx in advance.

There are other ways to get the apk on your device and I tried some of them.
I didn't get it working!
Problem is the resolution:
Archos 101:
1024x600 - It's the same resolution as the Galaxy Tab which comes with Swype.
But you have to substract some space for the softkeys. So the 'visible area' is something like 980x600.
Archos 70:
800x480 - same resolution as on other devices but also you have to substract the softkeys, i think.
I think at the moment there's no swype version which supports those resolutions! :-/
EDIT:
I only tried on 101.
But to get the beta link working you have to switch off the "Desktop User Agent" in the default browsers preferences.
So you could try on your Archos 70 and report back!

Doesn't work for A32 or A28 because both are based in qvga resolutions. Signed up anyways in case i get an update for it.

Why would anyone use Sqype on a display larger than 5"? I fail to see the benefit of swyping such long distances in comparison to a good onscreen keyboard like smartkeyboard pro.

Well people without hands can swype with there stumps.

I tried several versions Swype with no luck. SlideIT Pro 2.1 works just like it does on the smartphones. The only problem is that the very far right of the keyboard is covered up by the Android buttons.

Well you need to use swype for WVGA screens. Looks really nice plus it's faster then regular typing. I use the multi cracked version so no need for beta keys =D

What was that? A multi cracked pepper version? Please do tell more...Like

Forgetting the "why" for a moment. There is evidence that Swype works on the A70:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrXer6bo8iQ
Look at time index 2:14 on this video.

It certainly does work. The keys are huge in portrait and in landscape the . key is almost not visible.

I tried the wvga version but keeps FC'ing... I think might be cause of screen size not supported..!!!
I found SwiftKey to be the best and lag free till now...

Swiftkey is amazing

Ive been using Swiftkey for a few days now and its definitely the best Virtual Keyboard I have used for Android and it can also correct your Physical Keyboard inputs as well. I can't think of any other keyboard that offers Virtual and Physical auto-correction better than Swiftkey.
There is a paid version and a beta in the marketplace, you should definitely give the free Beta a try. The G2 already gives the One-Two punch of having the best of both worlds, its only just that it has the One-Two punch for software as well .
I tried it and didn't like it personally. However I found HTC_IME Mod keyboard to work better. I'm not a big fan of Swype either.
Swype is "too" smart for me sometime lol...To be specific, the auto suggestion and completion is junk. The Numbers and symbols layout are not the best.
Anyway, does anyone know how to update Swype version? I tried to download and install the lastest version to see any improvements but haven't got successful
It autocorrects the physical keyboard too? Does it do word suggestion for the physical keyboard?
Edit: wow it does auto correct the physical keyboard also. It be nice if someone couple make this work with the stock or other sense like imd mod soft keyboard.

That is the keyboard that I was using before Swiftkey and it does alot of things really well. The MAIN thing that stopped me from using it is no Multitouch Support. I would type so fast on the virtual keyboard that the word "Smartphone" would look like Smtpne.

I agree, if I could combine the Physical Keyboard Auto-Correction and Multitouch from Swiftkey with HTC_IME it would be the perfect keyboard.
actually..better keyboard provides auto correction and word suggestions for the physical keyboard as well. search for it from the market..its a pretty decent app..and quite accurate as well
better keyboard by better android

I agree. Swiftkey for the physical keyboard and swype for the virtual is a perfect combination. Maybe there will be a way to configure that eventually.
I'm still waiting on BlindType
I don't mean to hi Jack the tread tried better keyboard pro and damn its good. It looks very nice.

im going to try swiftkey.. no free trial for better keyboard?
This exactly what I was looking for as there was no spell check in the email. This is great. Thanks

i tried swift and while i liked the auto correct on the physical keyboard it annoyed the hell out of me when i was trying to type in spanish.. so i ended taking it out.. maybe ill purchase the full version in the future so i could have more than one language pack

[REQ] Multitouch Keyboard

I have always said I will not buy a tablet until they have a multitouch keyboard, because for me that is necessary for using a tablet. One key at a time and/or Swype will not cut it. I need to be able to type like my keyboard at home.
Please will someone port Droid X's keyboard and you will make a buyer out of me, and probably make my mananger and boss very happy.
(I work at sprint )
I'll put forth $5, :-\...sorry I can't do more alot of my money is going towards my server for Team Galaxy Sense
I think you will have to stick a few digits on the ebd before anyone will even take that request seriously. porting an IME is no trivial task.
Why do you need a kultitouch keyboard anyway? I cant see any posible usage scenario other than gaming and remote desktop.

I installed it on my Tab and the font on the keyboard was tiny
SmartKeyboard Pro supports multitouch. Apparently. http://www.dexilog.com/smartkeyboard/
Smart keyboard pro does it very well, and I'm pretty sure that better keyboard does too... I have them both on my vibrant...but I still keep coming back to swype... I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of my tab though so I can't report on how well they work on the tab, although I AM running the leaked 2.2 (obsidian) rom on my vibrant (same processor/ram/etc...), and they work very well on it. If you have a store demo you can install the free version of smart keyboard pro on it... The multi touch works, just not the user dictionary and some of the other customization features (like setting the long press duration...)

A multi touch keyboard lets you type faster... Your finger can still be touching a key when you hit the next one... Without multi touch, your finger had to be completely off of the last key before you can hit the next one... It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it makes a noticeable difference...

I'm extremely picky about this and it was the reason I ditched my HTC Incredible (it's shoddy multi-touch couldn't keep up with my typing...this has supposedly been fixed in later patches).
Nonetheless, I installed Smart Keyboard (I hate Better Keyboard) on my Tab, and it works flawlessly. I highly recommend it, it's inexpensive and you won't break bank on it.
lol - smartkeyboard pro ftw, use it on both my android devices after trying everything else
lots of options, many themes, great multitouch

LOL wut
2.2 should now support multitouch. But I don't get why that was a reason to ditch the incredible. Anyway, this hasn't been a issue for me and I can type pretty fast.

I have a Desire and I'm not sure if it's keyboard is multitouch (HTC IME Mod), but if it isn't then that would explain why I don't understand the need, but anything that lets me type faster is great, the two stock keyboards are utter rubbish.
Another vote for Smart Keyboard Pro. I have used it on both my Evo and G Tablet and it is the best.
Well, the default keyboard on my Tab does multitouch just fine. Only the Swype keyboard seems to lack multitouch when typing normally.

If I'm understanding right, then the default (not swype) keyboard lets me press a key and before removing my finger from it press another.
I believe this is the multitouch behaviour being requested and as such, assuming I am correct, I can also confirm this as working.

Defy keyboard

Hello all
I have come from a galaxy s, still getting used to a smaller keyboard.
I found the stock blur keyboard worked a bit better with my fat thumbs is it possible to install on cm7? Also if anyone has installed it could you send me the keyboard.apk.
Thanks in advance.

Must say I find the stock multi-touch keyboard to be plenty large in landscape. That said have you tried the "iPhone Keyboard"? There's a free version on the market. It seems more comfortable to use and I also have large fingers.
Ill check out iPhone keyboard.
Never really put phone into landscape maybe I need too

Try swiftkey beta on market. Its great and free.

Keyboard doesn't play sounds anymore!

Hello everyone! I just got my One X on Monday and so far I'm pretty happy with it, despite some small hiccups due to the first version of the SW.
Today I have installed an alternative camera app from the Market (Lg Camera Pro) and I turned off in the options the sound of the shutter. Guess what? The HTC stock keyboard stopped playing its sounds eversince, and no matter what I do there is no way to have them back. I have also uninstalled the Lg Camera app, but to no avail.
My idea is that the app has somehow overwritten some system file and as a result the keyboard is now mute. But is it possible, considering the handset is not even rooted yet?
Any ideas are very welcome.. if I don't find any other solution I will have to go for a full reset.
I have a heap of iPhone mates that I wish could find this LG app you mention. They all sit there in the room, going tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick on their phones while txting...sounds like a bloody stenographer's convention!
Sorry, I have no answer to your problem, but I am glad people around you are enjoying the silence

How about your screen lock / unlock? Is the sound still on? If doesn't then try to install some sound manager apps (ex: Audio manager) and check the volume level for system.
Awesome tip OP! A way to remove annoying keyboard sounds, will apply it if I get this phone and trial it on other devices.

You can always disable the keyboard sound via the keyboard setting menu. Most of the HTC device come with keyboard sound turned off.
I normally use the keyboard on mute, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I should be able to turn the sound on if I wish to do so!
Anyway I had to do a factory reset from recovery to have it back. Thanks to all.
Best tip I can give you : go to vip.swiftkey.net, sign up for the beta and download free Swiftkey 3.0 beta!
The keyboard is amazing compared to any other keyboard and since it's beta it's also free ;-)!

It's an entirely different way of typing. Swype is faster because you don't have to remove your finger from the keyboard (at least not that often).
Swiftkey is faster because it predicts words insanely well, if you write "I'll be there in 5 min" for example it will suggest "be there in 5 min" after you write I'll.
It's a very intresting piece of software which learns what you type the most and how you type it.
Also the new beta even adds spaces between words if you have forgotten it (check video in the thread in VIP section of swiftkey for example).
I tried Swype, Swiftkey, SlideIT, stock keyboard, Sense 4.0 keyboard and I still love Swiftkey the most. At the start it isn't that great but when you use it a few days it becomes 10x better (because of the "learning" of the software).

Hmm, interesting. THanks for your detailed response, i will definitely give it a try!
I tried it a few times, but I'm too old-school clearly!!

Swype beta is tiny...

Takes up only half the width of the screen...restored it from my Epic4G, is there a method to re-size the keyboard, or do I need to find/download the beta again from the browser (because I don't remember what email I used when I registered... )
BTW I'm using goodness with the xposed settings, curious if I could use that to get it re-sized, but all the settings I try seem to leave it unfazed.
When i used swype beta it fit the screen just like the stock keyboard.
Sent from a planet far far away.
Try downloading it again. Or clear data/cache of the keyboard app.

Go there, download the swype beta installer and go through the process. You'll have to sign up again for the beta.....but that's pretty common. It seems like the accounts are only good for like a month anyway.

I agree with tkepk181, it looks like it has to do with the fact that you restored the beta from a different phone. I always just re-download the beta from the official installer each time I change ROMs (about once-to-twice a week). It takes a little time, but I find that it reduces the amount of potential headaches associated with restoring a keyboard (especially if I'm changing DPI settings).
And besides, even if you can't remember your password to Swype beta, it's painless nowadays, just register a new e-mail and it's relatively immediate.
Hope this helped!
The Swype keyboard on the Epic 4G is sized down for a 480p screen resolution. Our S3s have 720p screen resolution. This is why the keyboard is tiny. It's incompatible with the xhdpi framework.
Best option is to find one that's themed the same in 720p resolution or download the new beta.
Yeah I downloaded it again, it's a bit different now, newer version I guess...no longer has dragon speech recognition, like I am used to, but at least swype still functions the same

You sure you got the swype beta? The latest full version of Swype doesn't have dragon voice recognition, but the latest beta does. I'm currently running it right now.
I think he downloaded the newest beta, but set Default the Stock Swype.
