SlapKernel 1.1 for Froyo 2.2 [easy root via SWUpgrade] [Battery mod] - Intercept Android Development

SlapKernel 1.1 by ckpcw from SDX
I'm just reposting over here so that folks who may not read SDX are aware of it.
Any and all credit/blame goes to ckpcw from SDX i'm nothing more than the messenger
Link to Original Post
Features working:
-Fully compatible with both Sprint and VM Intercepts
-Root (bypasses epic exploit / one-click-root, no need to revert if you've installed it)
-Wifi & tether
-init.d scripts through /system/etc/setinit.sh (standard method)
-Busybox with swap support (tested with jiml8's enableswap zip)
-Auto-mounting of ext2 /system, /data, /cache partitions (need new recovery before this could be seriously utilized)
Implemented, but needs verification:
-Numus Battery mod
In Progress:
-Overclock: working towards an alternate method - I'm not convinced true overclock was achieved with the recent kernels
-VM-specific issues (doubtful this is a kernel issue)
SWUpgrade .tar: No previous root required. Flash as usual (place file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary\ by itself)

Big thanks to inxane, Necrosan, Kuroyoma for their kernel work. Props to joeykrim for the cross-compiler guides. Gracias, Numus for the battery code. Ups to all of SDX for the sdx.sh script I lifted.

will slapkernel still let pandora work?

my intercept just came in the mail a few hours ago so far i've gotten 2.2 on it and that's all i've tried
i intend to try this on mine when i get home.
i'll let you know about pandora then.

I am currently using this kernel, most function seems to work well with the exception of MMS. Can't wait for version 1.2, ckpcw says over-clock may possibly be involved.

Happily awaiting kernel updates for slap! Cool kernel, really sped up my roommates intercept. Its cool to see anything being developed for this device. Stock it is a pretty terrible phone, but rooted with new roms and kernels, its a decent phone.
Sent from my Evo4G!

Pretty staggering battery life on this kernel also, about 5 hours maximum. Screen set to most dim setting at all times. Been on the kernel for 4 days and have to charge up at least 2 times a day, no matter what. Just bug reporting...

hmmm i've not experienced this yet. Mine goes at least a day. I'm also a heavy user not alot of tethering or anything but i get better than that. i'll report this over in the thread on sdx

Looking forward to trying this out.

Oh I want SO bad to try this. Unfortunately, it seems I'll only be rooting at 2.1 for VM, because I actually use MMS pretty damn often...

No big deal really got it on gf's phone can't tell a difference other than applying root, one click method posted here works for that maybe when it gets overclocked
Swyped from my EVO

Root works with VM Intercept after 2.2 Froyo update
Dont know if I got lucky... But, Root works with VM Intercept after 2.2 Froyo update. I used the Sprint rom from sdx that I found links to here. I do have the known bugs... No SMS and VM notifications.

is it possible for JPA based one? (due to the proper RTL support)
Was about to try the new kernel on yours JPA, but I guess I will download this one instead =)
As always big big thanks, and will report how it goes.
EDIT: Btw, Doc, what do you think of start up tweaks? Good, unnecessary (since it does some rfs speed up, and most here will go for ext everywhere).
Any plans to include it (or you can tell us how to include it).
Great!.. How much is the 'free' RAM on this?

Thanks for answering.
ASOP? Android Source Open Project?
You mean AOSP!
Works like a charm!
Before OCLF, I actually already started downloading your SuperSlim JP6 Doc's Rom, but after.. wow.
Although Quadrant gives 1700, the feel is fantastic, just lightning fast. Keep up the good work and I'll keep using my SGS as a lab rat
Nice Rom
Using this rom (V2), seems very nice. Quadrant is about 1100 with 30 apps installed, Autokiller says 82mb of ram free.
After using for a few hours now still seems very responsive. I will report more tomorrow.
Thanks Doc, yet again..
The main point of this kernal is the awesome lagfix options...are they all working on this ROM doc? What about the "binding issue" that I've read about?
Can we have a list about whatt have been removed?
Is it compatible with afterburn (from multinational v3) to add some component back?
I am liking this rom. Its like I am using vanilla android and not some bloated crappy UI overlay. Had this issue where after installing, did a factory reset made it so after booting up I could not get the main screen to appear - it was always black.
Notification drawer worked and displayed just fine, but the main screen wouldnt load or show anything.
Getting around 1000 quadrant without any sort of lag fix.
Applied oclf and am getting 1818.
Real usage seems extremely responsive however.
Camera looks to be broken though.
Thank you!
Was looking yesterday night at the drain the samsung email app was causing and wondering how to swtich to stock mail and this comes along. Very nice work - i installed it and it got deployed just fine, now turning on lagfix. Will restore everything and let you know how it goes!. Thank you for your work - big fan of it.
PS: lol you sure do hate facebook sync dont you?
Can confirm everything went smooth including the conversion to ext4 (I tried the Advanced option without bind). Initial impression is that its smooth - but have been on it for too little time to find the quirks apart from confirming that camera is in fact FC-ing. Restoring from backup also does not help.
As for lagfix, maybe i will change my opinion on extended use, but for now I dont see a perceptible difference in making them all ext4 in comparison with voodoo. So if the more stable option is voodoo, the payoff seems too little to try the riskier all-ext4 version.
PS: I know its stripped, but no music player by default?!! Come on doc
PPS: only thing i can see missing now is BLN patch, but i guess thats for stuzpy to merge.
Really liking what i see here - very promising!

[KERNEL] Advanced Voodoo v666.1+2 (CLOCKWORKMOD 3/VOODOO SOUND/OC+UV)

BEFORE COMPLAINING THAT FLASHING UPDATE ZIP DOSENT WORK READ THIS:
What you can do for now is flash old kernel and flash update.zip and then go back to new kernel. But i would recommend all to get rom makers to change scripts!
Koush said:
Hi everyone, I understand Clockwork 3.0 has caused some issues with flashing zips and I wanted to make a post that explains why.
To give you back history, there are currently two ways to create "update.zip" scripts. The first one is "update-script", also known as Amend. It was the first version of the scripting language created by Google, and was used in Android 1.0 and Cupcake (1.5). However, Amend has two serious design flaws:
Function arguments can not span more than 1 word.
The scripting language is compiled into the recovery causing image bloat and inflexibility.
Because of this reason Google REMOVED Amend support in Donut and beyond, and instead switched to update-binary and updater-script, which is also known as Edify.
However, Amon Ra and I kept Amend support in, to help ease the transition off its usage in ROM creation. CyanogenMod itself has already switched to Edify 9 months ago.
With the recent Gingerbread source code drop and the upcoming CM7 release, I needed to merge the latest changes from Google's Gingerbread recovery into ClockworkMod recovery. This meant finally removing Amend support, and switching fully to Edify. If you flash ClockworkMod 3.0 or higher, it will no longer install Amend (update-script) zips. Version 3.0.0.4 will show you the following message:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Please switch to using Edify, as it will be a requirement for CM7 Gingerbread based ROMs. I gave notice about this a month ago on Twitter.
If you must absolutely flash an older Amend zip, you can always flash an older recovery or AmonRa or the like and do it manually.
UPDATE:
Here's a 2.6 version (supports both script versions) and backs up wimax:
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover...supersonic.img
PLEASE TEST THIS FOR ME!
Please note, that once CM7 is released, Clockwork 3.0 WILL BE A REQUIREMENT.

We shud get all rom packers to update their script to offical current update-script language
Wow sounds great...
Hey,
Any chance for similar tweaks on voodoo-eclair ?
Id appreciate it.
Thanks
I flashed this and now my phone does a reset every single boot... strange.
thats very strange.. i reflashed 3 new roms and tried this one.. what kernel did you have? ULF? you had any lagfixes enabled? since this is voodoo it only allows /data ext4.
Can i flash it over the voodoo kernel?
yes thats what i have done thats what i would suggest you todo. its like a normal voodoo "update"
Hmm yeah I flashed it over the steel one with advanced EXT enabled :/
Then I did a factory reset, however.
how high the cpu freq goes?
This includes the extended RAM?
1,2ghz and yes on the big ram

Good to know it seems that i find the right kernel to flash. There is any instability playing games or anything 3d heavy?
And the 64k dollar question. How about the bat life?
As we have to suggest stuff...
- Add sztupy's Ultimate Lagfix which has a custom recovery.
- Add nikademus' Universal External Lagfix.
- Add the choice for a BFS Scheduler in addition to the standard CFS.
- Add all of Hardcore's Kernel, Scheduler and VM tweaks.
- Compilation optimization, the way laststufo does. Or he'll do it anyway I guess.
It's all I can think of right now. This is gonna be great! And when everything is all unified into one package, it will directly go to Cyanogenmod!
And I am really happy to see development of the SGS getting better each day. Far better than a month ago!
havent runned it long enough yet to be able to say anything about battery life. hopefully good if sleeping on low freqs (set to 400 or something with setcpu) and had no probs with games so far atleast.. 3d works fast

shud either flash it over voodoo or a non lagfixed
There is a way to restore the original voodoo?
First thank you very much for your hard work .And how kel ghu said it i will definitly love to see sztupy's Ultimate Lagfix mixed with this awesome kernel and it will be the killer....
Imagine your galaxy s with more cpu power more ram and the Overkill advanced lagfix.... the dream.

the whole point with this kernel is that its based on voodoo sources already using lastufos compilation optimizing.. and hardcore's bigmem.. the other tweaks dosent really make any diffrence ;p if i would make this ULF.. there is already 10 kernels like that.. and i want people to try out new voodoo stuff before supercurio releases a preview or beta but im gonna try add cwm recovery to this to =) tomorrow. its 3am and going to sleep can check on bfs.. but its pretty pointless on android.

wont add in ULF.. theres already prolly 5 kernels with OC+bigmem+ulf+optimizing.. but they all miss voodoo sound and color (when it comes) so here i made one from voodoo sources instead.. will try get in a recovery tomorrow but mix in ULF you could just leech any of those 5 other kernels. will be same anyway =)

Future Updates - READ THIS!
By providing this ROM I am not implying in any way that future updates will follow. Due to limits on my time and the fact that I have a large number of devices for short periods of time, it isn't possible for me to continue providing ROM updates indefinitely. I guess Ill be the first to indulge...installing now, thanks for an easy flashable version of Desire Z sense, appreciate all the hard work in making my G2 the ****!
BTW - does the Desire Z OC kernel module floating around here work for this rom?
Came from Evil's ROM.
No wipe was required, kernel not overclocked, needs patience when flashing and firstboot, but overall seems to be working fine.
The location app, which didn't work correctly in the other Rom I tried, seems to be missing.
a) Where is said kitchen?
b) Can the kitchen include the 1.5GHz kernel and the "interactive" governor SetCPU?
quick question... would I be able to push lights.vision.ko to the appropriate location to get the trackpad to light up for notifications? i MUCH prefer that over the speaker light led
The locations option somehow got missed out of the kitchen!
I've updated it, and will update the prebake next time i'm properly online (visiting family for the weekend now!)

Help... when I first loaded up this rom, the first thing i did was check to make sure the .com button worked... and it did.
Now that everything is done installing, my .com key no longer works, what happened?
Wi-Fi Hotspot
I really like the ROM so far, but I can't seem to get the Wi-Fi Hotspot working. I had success with the hotspot on the G2's version of stock android, but no luck with HTC Sense.
Has anyone been able to get this to work?
EDIT: Tried it again and it works fine. You just can't have the USB cable plugged into a computer and have WiFi Hotspot on. Might have something to do with the tethering.
I have used the FM radio successfully and have paired with a bluetooth headset. Everything seems to work great on this.
I downloade your Rom on setup I can't find English ( united states) option just a bunch of other countries is it not available other than that great Rom real smooth and also will Bacon bits kernel work on your Rom thanks in advance

thanks for the universal g2/z rom.
I hope all follow your good example and do the same.
And we can get rid of one of these forums either dz or g2.
Question do DZ owners just need a proper kernel to run a g2 ready rom?
Or can the just flash and go?
How do I install visionary its not letting me do it on astro

Don't thank me! Thank Vatoloco/Neopeek!!
HTC raphael 800 can run but wifi not working (status: error) and battery drain fast.
I still waiting for Neopeek Team.
I am just instaling it... I can not wait for the final fully functioning version.
Cheers
Not stable enough for me at least (Fuze/RAPH110)... Guess I'll just have to deal with FRX03/FRX02 for now... ^_^
Kernel package: htc-msm-linux @ 20101204_005141
I have a Fuze and it works fine for me, but it is just a bit laggy (kernel does not support so well).
Remember he just hacked gingerbread to work with froyo settings but I can promise that future builds will be much better once every one else has started the development of gingebread on our devices
I kind of figured, just wanted to report my experience since it seems most of the newer kernels seems to half work on my Fuze with FRX03. Might just be something I'm looking over About to try again with newest kernel from Glemsom's site and see if the FCs are any less frequent.
Yeah, i'm using the latest glemsom kernel and it is slightly laggy but stability is much better. I have not tried any other kernels yet..
I'm using the old kernel & module 01238 from FRG83 R5 build in this Raph100 & it works just fine except for the known Android issues that we still have.
Some minor glitches in Gmail & root access rights reported by SetCPU, but overall a good build (stable) considering that it's still in Alpha stage. Anyway, we get to test run Gingerbread while most native Android devices are still running Eclair or Froyo!
hello, it runs fine with kernel 1190 from camera thread, for the keyboard use jap input. Reboot you can, do with the dev tools-bad behavior-crash system server. keep going man very good!
UPDATE
Gingerbread is working nicely! I have not tested everything but at least there are less FCs! I am using kernel package from Dec 26, 2010:
zImage & modules
NOTE: Check out F22's note about this specific kernel package from THIS post.
Better performance ?
Gingerbread is supposed to be faster than Froyo. I wonder whether this will translate into a better performance on the Diamond. The Diamond is a slow device (compared to the HD2) and there's not much that can be done about it, except overclocking.

Anyway we could interest you into test driving and giving it a once-over with your diamond?
I would love to try it myself on my touch pro cdma (raph800), but i can't afford to mess around with creating the separate partition to try this. Is there yet an alternative way, as i would love to test this out also?
I suppose I could try to make it into a .sqsh file so you can just boot off of it on sd card but no garuantee it will work...
I wouldn't mind trying it if you don't mind doing that. I keep my android2.2 in "setpath=android2.2" directory, and assume i could also do the same with this "setpath=android2.3" to keep them separate.
here it is: http://www.multiupload.com/6QEW8OFBMJ
*may or may not work*
Thank you much sir. I just unzip the sqsh file from that archive file into the main SD stick directory, correct? So far i followed the instructions and (at the time of writing this) was at the "run the install from the subdirectory, after it's done, it will reboot back into WM" part, and continuing.
Yes, that is correct. You don't need to run "install.exe" or need the npkinstall folder. It should be fully compatible with xdandroid and you don't need the files from neopeek.com.
Just boot it as if it were an xdandroid build and hopefully, it should display android logo. Ext2 is much faster.. give it a try when you can.
I might have to do that. All i get is the following (last 2 lines of the screen at boot)
"mmc1: error -22 whilst initialising SDIO card"
"Waiting for root device /dev/mmcblk0p2..."
and then just sits there for ever.
Are you using an xdandroid startup.txt or neopeek?

[ROM]Orange Glacier [v2.0.0] -Stock Variant on EXT4 - Faux123 [May-15-2011]

Re-Introduce Orange Glacier 2.0.0
The reason I created this ROM is NOT TO COMPETE with anyone else, it is mainly for myself. I wanted a light weight ROM that's STABLE and FAST but I also wanted to try something slightly different.
I WON'T BE Updating this ROM unless something is Seriously WRONG with it...
(I WON'T BE taking FEATURE REQUESTS and such, most can be added by yourself from various mods found in the Theme and Apps sub forum )
So here it is: Orange Glacier ?!?!?!?
Why the name:
Because ClockworkMod Recovery (3.0.0.5+) for Gingerbread is colored Orange for EXT 4 partitions and since this ROM uses EXT 4 File System (FS) as its primary FS, I decided to name it this way.
So what is in this Orange Glacier?
1. Completely rebuilt from Stock Image
2. Uses exclusively EXT 4 FS
3. Moved all optional Apps to /data/app partition for easy uninstall (including most Google Apps)
4. Rooted, /system set to RW by default
5. Deodexed, Zip aligned all /system/apps and framework files using ROM kitchen from fellow XDA member.
6. Dalvik memory boosted from default 24MB to 36MB
7. Few CFS tweaks
I want to Thank the following:
TeamSilence for inspiring me to start it all,
Pack for the awesome battery mods,
dsixda for the easy to use ROM kitchen (highly recommended to anyone interested in cooking their own ROM, it CAN'T be easier than what he provided)
Installation:
The File ==> Orange Glacier Version 2.0 <==
WARNING: The INSTALLER WILL ERASE ALL USER DATA AND SYSTEM DATA!!!

Google Search
Youtube

T-Mobile MyAccount
T-Mobile TV
Qik Video Chat
TwonkyMobile
Google Street
All Built-in Games (Monopoly, NFS etc)

There's nothing special about this ROM.. It's mainly stock with the tweaks I mentioned in the OP...
stock is good for my battery i need battery more than fancy animations and all this gingerbread stuff
Sweet! Downloading now. Thanks Faux!
BTW, are there any known bugs/issues Faux?
Everything you have done is so amazing, so everything you do, we would pay special attention~~Tky Faux!!
nothing wrong basically itsstock with a few additions like battery mod and lil visuals here and there and speed up alot i dont feel no lag at all everything works idk bout ffc on qik cause my girl dont have but evrything is good to go
Well, this ROM gives me the best data speeds i have ever had. Unfortunately, every time that i reboot, it erases all of my screens. not sure why and OP says no support for this ROM. So i guess i will flash something else. It pains me to have to give up the data speeds.

He actually stated no support unless something serious is wrong. That seems pretty serious if happening to others as well. I would love to load a "de-bloatwared" stock image with good speed and full functionality. I can't wait to hear more feedback on this one.
RA
just when I thought I was done with froyo forever. thanks faux, i feel OBLIGATED to give this a run.
Welcome to the ROM side of life Faux.
