[REQ] App to select media to hide from gallery - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

I was looking for an application that lets me select which folders on my SD card not to scan for media content, or better said not to scan for either music, video or picture content. Googling around I found that "Media Hidden" (formerly Gallery Enabler) does exactly this, but it has been removed from market and the developers blog is gone.
I know about the trick with the .nomedia file, but if I put this in my music folder to hide albumart from my picturebrowser it works, but then the music files don't get scanned either....
Doe anyone know about an alternative app? Or a method to define what sort of content a folder doesn't need to get scanned for?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

I use an application called Pandora...

Thanks, tried it and it seems to work ok, however this is file based and I would like to do this folder based and per media type.. I saw a screenshot of media hidden and it looked like you could tick music, video and picture individually per folder location.

Rename your album art files as albumart.jpg. Then they won't appear in the gallery

OK, but how about application pictures and stuff you don't want in there?
I really am looking for an app.
I just don't understand why Hidden Media has been removed from Market, it seemed like an excellent app. I definitely would have paid/donated if it was still there....

Hide N Seek works well.

Thanks, but a lot of these apps are meant to hide "questionable" content, whereas I am just looking for an app that offers the functionality without having to launch an app that is disquised as a flashlight and have to tap the menu button 3 times before magically the app appears...
Hmmm I think I am going to try Hide It Pro... it is also password protected which I don't need, but it adds an option to the default "share" menu in the gallery to hide whatever you selected.

Um you probably want to create a (.nomedia) file in the specific folder that you want hidden from gallery etc. that's how android handles this type of thing internally?!

Have you read my first post? That is not what I am looking for....

Your original objection was to album art in the music folders, but that should be fixed by renaming those jpegs. So why does the .nomedia method not work for your other folders (you only mentioned pictures in the application folders)? Are there music/video in those application folders you want in the gallery, but not the pictures? Might be easier to just copy those files to their respective media files and then stick a .nomedia in the folder...
And as far as I remember, the Media Hidden app you mention didn't actually allow you to chose whether or not to exclude either pictures, music, or video from a directory. It was all or nothing. In fact, I think it simply added a .nomedia to the selected directory for you.

Call me lazy, but I don't want to mess with nomedia files or having to change my jpeg filenames...
I just want to be able to tell that all images in my music folder, regardless of coverart filetypes or names should be hidden in picture gallery.
From what I can tell Media hidden could do just this judging the screenshot!

Gotcha. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Media Hidden was just an easy way to create .nomedia files. I believe the "icons" in the screenshot are really a single icon that replaces the standard checkbox (that is why for each directory, all three appear to be selected or not).
I'm not sure of any app that will do what you are asking or if there is an easy way to do what you are asking. Some file managers make it simple to create the .nomedia file like Media Hidden did (OI File Manager comes to mind---just navigate to the directory and choose to exclude from media scan). Otherwise, you might be able to use Tasker to script something up (like upon the starting of the Gallery app, copy a .nomedia file to the appropriate directories, delete it on exit).
Another option would be to use embedded cover art if your music files support it (like mp3s) and erase the jpgs completely. Also, album art can be named folder.jpg and not show up in gallery.

Hi and thanks for your reply... looking at the screenshot again I guess you are right.
I think I will have to settle with one of the alternatives you suggest.
Thanks for the feedback!

Meda scanner taking long time to complete scan

Anyone know a reason why after rebooting phone the media scan takes a very long time?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It depends on how much you have on your sd card. The more you have the longer it takes.
I wonder what the ratio to time being done scanning is , because i only have maybe 2-3 gigs worth of media and it takes like 10 minutes to finish scanning media
It isn't just the size of the files. The number of files that it has to check matters too. If there are any folders that you don't need scanned, put a file called .nomedia in that folder and the scanner will skip that finder and it's subfolders.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
any way to find out what its scanning and where, or is it scanning the whole sd card?
It scans the whole sd card, except for folders with the .nomedia file.
What is the purpose of the scan? If I put the .nomedia file in every directory what would happen?
Then it won't know where pictures are music are on your sdcard. For example, pictures in a folder with .nomedia will not show up in your gallery.

So I can put .nomedia in many folders (like where apps are installed on the SD card) that I know no pics or music should be in.
Exactly what type of file does the .nomedia file need to be?

It doesn't matter. You can simply make it an empty text file. The media scanner just checks for a file with the name .nomedia. It doesn't care what kind of file it is.
will the .nomedia thing stop winamp from trying to play mp3(turns out they were .ogg) files that are simply sounds to a game? The game is dungeon hunter and the question is nearly academic because I don't really like it and will probably uninstall it in the near future.. But still, I want winamp to play my music mp3s, which are all in a folder /music and nothing else..
meh, I can just try it and see before anyone even reads this and replies..
SUCCESS! no more "raw1385" in my winamp playlist

I think if you put .nomedia everywhere you will basically lose all functionality of gallery, etc. You may want to try "Rescan Media ROOT" from the market. It requires root, as you can tell from its name, but it lets you turn off the automatic media scanning and do it manually whenever you need (which is almost never in my case). That combined with judicious use of .nomedia has been wonderful.
I guess if you change what media is on your phone a lot, this will be less useful, but for me, it's saved a tremendous amount of time and helped convert my high-powered media-scanning device back into a phone.
do you think that the type of sd card , like the stock one that came with the phone might be lower quality and take longer or is there one thats extreme high quality ?

The sdcard included is only a class 2, but it has more than enough throughput for the media scan. You can get a class 4 or class 6 card, but I doubt it will make much of a difference in the amount of time the media scanner is running.
My phone has been getting stuck often on the media scan process. Sometimes it get's stuck in the middle, sometimes it never stops. I recently reformatted my sd but the problem still exists. Also, I often have trouble mounting the sd in recovery. I'm using a class 6 8gb transcend which I've had for about a year or more. Is it possible my card is just going bad and is there a good way to tell?
Its the phone for some reason when I was on di18 it was taking a very long time to scan after awhile it just got really short. Sorry I don't the exact reasoning but I re formatted my card and it didn't help.

I guess you could try a different card with the same files and see what the difference in scan time is. Or try them both freshly formatted and empty.
There are always ways to test.

I've attached the files that I've tested as working below.
Instructions - Root explorer (Requires root)
copy both the files to your SD Card (DSPmanager.apk and music.apk)
1.Load Root Explorer. Go into System -> apps
2.Scroll down till you see the music player.apk file.
3.Select and hold down until a pop up appears.
4.Select "Rename"". Add .bak to the file, so it reads music player.apk.bak.
5.Select the file again as above, but now select move.
6.Press the back key until you go back to the system root (/) and then go go the SDcard folder.
7.Select Paste. You now have your original player backed up and safe if you wish to revert.
8.Now install the Music.apk.
9.Now install DSPmanager.apk.
Voila!!!
If you prefer ADB, then you know what you're doing i'm sure!

No probs mate. It may have been the fact the stock music player doesn't support it, as it has it's own equalizer which overrides DSP. Howver, this music player does and it has a better display for artists, albums etc.
Awesome.... .
This isn't working for me? moved the file, installed the new one but there is no music icon in applications also it doesn't show up in the app folder with root explorer? copied the original one back, still not showing up in apps? so have no music app now and no way to launch the original music application.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
EDIT: rebooted and now the orginal is back on,
So the files I have in the app folder that relate to the music app are,
MusicHub_U1.apk
MusicPlayer.apk
MusicPlayer.odex
When I move the MusicPlayer.apk and install the Music.apk all there is in that folder even after reboot is,
MusicHub_U1.apk
MusicPlayer.odex
No sign of your Music.apk? even though it says installed ok over system file
You need to move the .odex too and then put music.apk in system/app then click on it to install. If thats done, your good to go.

The problem was I was just installing the app like normal, the dsp one installed but the music one didn't, like you say I had to copy it into the app folder and then install from there.
Works a treat, need to mess with the dsp setting now.
Thanks a bunch mate.
The problem with that is DSP often does not work unless you "wake" the app everytime by launching it.
i find the Player Pro fantastic, but I must say compared the my Desire, the SGS2 music app better in terms of sound quality, but it'a shame this is no shuffle option.
What settings you use in dsp mate?
I've uninstalled DSP, as like the other poster said I think you need to have it running to take effect, but I prefer the music app because of he widget and also the fact that it uses less ram than the stock Samsung one.
Also I've noticed that my phone is using around 20 to 30 mb less ram now the Samsung music app has been replaced even when it's not running the phone is defiantly using a lot less ram now? not sure why? maybe the Samsung apps use a lot of resources as I know my battery life went way up after removing the Social hub.
I'm pleased at the moment anyway, using less ram, widget and a fine music app.
EDIT: my phone is running at 140mb ram used atm, thats down from a average of 190 200mb before the music app was replaced and I haven't stopped anything else, all the same things are running. A bit new to Android so may be it variates a lot but it hasn't gone that low before.
All its done for me is to lose all my album art .
All back as soon as i replace with standard music apk.

Thats very odd....
If your album art was in your music folders, that honestly doesnt make any sense!
If anything, this music app takes advantage of album art more than the default one, as it acts as a background when viewing that particular album.
As for the process having to be running, if thats the case then i imagine this is the same on all CM7 builds.

Make sure you've fully un-installed the CM7 music app via manage applications, delete music.apk and re-locate and re-install the stock one.
Works fine on mine when testing for you.

[REQ] Offline gallery and folder hidier?

Is there anyway I can stop my gallery from showing photos such as photo posts from G+ and picasa "scrapbook photos" that I don't even use :s and a dropbox folder that I also don't use?
Thanks
You can try placing a file called ".nomedia" in those folders but that will prevent the media content from showing up in other applications as well (e.g. mp3 in music app).
Personally I tried to customize the gallery to my liking with no luck. It was pretty frustrating but I've been using QuickPic since and it works like a charm.
EDIT: Oh and the picasa/google+ can be eliminated by clearing the google+ app data in app settings, and then disabling photo sync when you re-login to your google+ account. Again I found this to be hit or miss so your results may vary.

I had the very same problem my friend and it was driving me NUTS! I tried a lot of things but no matter what the "Scrapbook Photos" and "Profile Photos" folders kept showing up in my gallery. I do know of one way you can get rid of these album folders.
First, go into your G+ account and go to your scrapbook folder or picasa folder (can't remember how they labeled it), and then delete the entire folder or app or feature. Basically, just stop the service to picasa. This may be a deal-breaker for some but it sounds like your like me and don't use picasa anyway. That's why it kept showing up as an album folder with no images in it....just empty.
Second, to get rid of the profile folder, I'm sorry to say, the only way I know how is to delete your profile picture in G+. Again, for some that's out of the question...but for me it was worth it bc I hated having those albums in my gallery and I never really used G+. I'm not sure if Alanid's method will work as I never thought to try that but I did try some things that were very similar and it never permanently got rid of those pesky albums. They just kept regenerating everytime I took a picture or hit the refresh button in the gallery. This worked for me....
As for the dropbox album, I never had that problem. But I imagine you could get rid of it by deleting any photos you have in your dropbox...not sure about that one though.
Well, I hope I was of assistance. Good luck!

Pixel 3 created automatically 300 folders with pictures

Hey, today my Pixel 3 XL arrived and i moved from iPhone to the Pixel.
I had like 1300 pictures from my iPhone on my computer, then I moved the pictures via FileManager to my Pixel.
And the Pixel automatically created like 300 or more folders with about 2 pictures each in it.
Is there any easy way I get all the pictures out of the folders? I don't need folders in my libary, I just want all pictures side by side and no folders.
I didn't know that Android creates for every App that edits pictures a new folder.
Hope someone can help, I don't wanna drag each pic out of it's folder

Yeah, over the past few years, the photo app has been really annoying in the way it structures saved photos. Honestly, the best way to do it is find a new photo album app and use that to look up photos. Even when I get a popup asking me if I want to create a new folder for a picture, I say no, and its still in there with new folder. Then every few weeks I go through deleting stupid folders with 1 picture I didnt want.

First let me say welcome (or welcome back) to Android. I don't know how many GB your pics amount too, but I've had good luck zipping a huge amount of pics into a single zip file, transferring it to my phone and then using a quality file manager (solid explorer / root explorer) to extract. Dunno? maybe it will take splitting the 1300/2 or even 3 files but it can be done. When zipping on your Mac/PC just use "no compression", "wrapper", or "minimal". This results in a fast compression because the pics are already compressed. I'm not an apple guy at all but I can tell you zipping 100's of files is no big deal on a PC, nor extracting them into the DCIM folder on your shiny new Pixel. Unlock your bootloader NOW if you are able, because unlocking it later will wipe all your data including any photos not backed up to the cloud (Photos). I also thought there was a way to transfer from Apple cloud to Google Photos, but again I am not an Apple guy at all. (disclaimer: I just have to buy them for my wife and daughter)

You know, I guess it depends on what app I am using when trying to look up a photo. You are correct, when just going directly to the photo album app, all my photos are just laid out. It's when I click the "albums" icon that its a complete mess. Also, pretty much every time I open the app, I get multiple notifications for "new folder found". Most of the time those are singular pictures my security system took. Annoyingly, they are all one photo in each "new" folder. So I have to go in and delete each folder individually.

Question Copy mp3 or other music files to Pixel Watch

I am hoping someone has a simple method or maybe a link to a youtube video that shows how to copy/move files to the Pixel Watch from either a Win10 computer or a Pixel 6 Pro phone.
Similarly, a way to possibly copy text or jpg images to the watch if there is a way to display them from some ascii text reader app or image display app. I sometimes like to have a simple note about how to do something on my portable device.
I see a thread on using some "nav-xxx" but since it is not available in the PlayStore, I don't see how to get it on the watch in the first place. I also saw a thread on some other method but when I fired it up - I was lost!!!! I have dealt with computers for eons so should be able to manage but those same eons may have resulted in my gray matter is stretched thin.
Thanks in advance.
You can do it via adb commands. But I'm not sure how to play MP3s on the watch.
I'm using an app called wear media music player (by qubin apps) that transfers mp3, m4a files and works as a player as well. It's not free, but it works well enough.
Going to investigate the app. Thanks for the reply.

I was wondering if there were any kind of File Explorer? I'm always curious about what is lurking in the folders of MY (meaning, don't keep me out) devices.
@Rp2pilot
They both seem to work. I'm not sure that the quality of the audio (Mendelssohn's Scottish) is all that terrific on the watch but it is there!!!
I also transferred two photos to the watch. They wound up in the topmost folder/directory. I was able to copy/move them to the Pictures folder. Now, viewing them is like using a microscope to view. Slide the view field around to see the entire photo.
But THANKS for the references.
Edited to add:
Okay, I am amazed (easily impressed, perhaps). I copied an ascii text file, a spreadsheet and a pdf to the watch. The text file just opened and I could read it, It looks as if I could also edit it. The excel spreadsheet (no app to open prompts). The pdf file opened as pdf could not be navigated. But it also offered text view and I was able to read it. Now, obviously the screen a(watchface) is a bit constrained but... Still impressed.

How do you open those files? I mean, is there a file browser out there?

I think there may be some inherent file browser that can handle opening some file types. But the there is the app "myWear File Explorer" that I used to navigate to the text and jpg files. If I can manage a screen capture, I will post an image or two. Admittedly, the results may not be completely practical on the small watch face but it can be done in some cases.
Two jpgs of a jpg file I transferred to the watch. Same image scrolled to reveal different sections.

Screen capture of a text file I transferred to the watch. The watch or the inherent app actually "word wrapped" the plain text file.
I tried opening an xl spreadsheet. But it can't do it.
A view of a pdf file I transferred.
