ok
but have you tested ?

Of course, I have not tested all of this cable, but I have bought one from Hong Kong, last month, I have received it 22 days after and it's working good
So all this one must work too.

Hi,
I've bought the newmp3 cable because it was a really quick need for me (GPS use).
I received it in few days and it's what I wanted !
Working in my car, my laptop and my business computer.
Maybe 20 cm more would be better but it's ok !

It sucks that the archos doesn't charge over USB.
At least with products like this I assume not.

I don't see the difference, as these cables charge it from a USB port they just don't pass data through. I presume you mean they don't charge with the normal sync cable.
It isn't a problem as most PC's have more than 1 USB port to have both the charging lead and sync cable plugged in.
But it's good that it will charge from a USB source as some of the cheap nasty Chinese tablets wont, they need a wall charger, which is difficult on a plane or in a car.

Thanks for the links. Indeed the cable is too expansive on newmp3technology -_-

Okay, so I've just tried an old PSP charger, and whilst the jack is a little tight, it works and is charging.

Charge damn you, Charge!!!

I'm getting annoyed now. Not pleased with generally winding me up with bugs and stuff, my XDA2s has now decided it won't charge from the USB cable. In fact, it's been doing it for a while. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Wiggling the cable makes ****-all difference, and I've tried it on a PC and a laptop. Yes, I'm using a cheap sh1t cable from Ebay but it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. 50/50.
My main battery is now 0%, my mains charger is at home and I'm overseas, my car is at Manchester Airport with my GPS cable that also charges. The main cradle, and the car charger, never have problems by the way. I guess in my rant, I've answered my own question. It's the cheap cable isn't it?
Anyone have any advice? Or where to get the best USB Sync/Charge cable from? O2 direct?
TIA
Dan
I had the same problem trying to charge from an INSPIRON 8200 laptop that didn't have enough power on the USB to spin up a external USB drive. I tried a more modern and powerful laptop and it charged up ok in an hour. Try a desktop. I've seen lots of stuff about USB not giving full 5volts
When I was in Hong Kong I got one of those cheap cables, and low and behold it did not work. It has only 2 threads in it and to charge it needs 4.
(well so I was told)

Well, I took the thing apart last night and it has about four wires in it. Well, two direct ones and then one that loops from one to the other. I'm suspecting dodgy soldering, as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Anyhoos, I've ordered one of those retractable ones from Fleabay, let's hope it's not as plop!
Oh yeah, and my 2s is now completely dead
Thanks
Dan
Huzzah!
Plugged my 2s into my car charger as soon as I got to the airport last night, and it came back to life eventually. Didn't lose anything

[Q] Long USB Cable

Anyone found a long (around 6') usb cable that charges at a good rate? Need it to run a cable in my dash to power my car dock. The standard one is going to be too short and it seems like there's a handful of crud ones out there, done some searching but haven't come up with much yet.
Thanks
dont know if im allowed to say this, but monoprice has them in 6 ft and 10 ft, i was looking for one also!
thanks I'll check em out, been lookin for reviews on the charging quality, seems a lot charge just as fast as the battery is discharged

I could be mistaken, but I think that's just a consequence of charging over usb which doesn't output a very strong current compared to the wall or your car.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I ordered a couple of 6' from monoprice that should be here any day.
I use a USB extender that I got from an old usb network card.
I have a couple of usb extension cables but I think they're interfering with my signal. For some odd reason I get network errors if I use them to charge. Might just be coincidence though.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Could be a coincidence, I'm not really referring to charging whith a computer. I ment using the cable with a usb wall or car adapter. Also it's a given you charge faster when plugged into the car though, dc vs ac current.

I actually bought a 10' one from microcenter.. try your local geeked out PC place.

MonoPrice is where I get all my cables for my Androids. They are amazing quality, much better than the one that it came with. You can also get them upward of 16 feet, which is what I have so I can play with it while in bed
heh 6' would probably do it for me, might get a 10' just in case, im in the process of fiberglassin powered usb ports into my car dash, ill probably leave in behind the dash to hook up the car dock and keep it clean
I've had bad experiences with micro usb cables longer than 5 feet. The First was with my head unit in my car. When I would plug it in, the signal would spontaneously drop. I exchanged it with a 3 foot one of the same gauge, and I haven't lost signal yet.
Same issue happened when I plugged it into my desktop with an identical cable. I was told that there wasn't enough juice to both charge and transfer data.
Those monoprice cables, has anybody else had good experiences with them?

That's where I but all my cables from, Monoprice.
well just got my cables from monoprice, i got 6' as well as 10', figured the 15 is overkill for anything i need. So far the seem to be working well for wall and car charging, as well as pc syncing.
The charging current is controlled by the source and not the cable, correct? So if I replaced the wall charger that came with the phone witha 10' cable it would work fine, right? It's just a bit too short to both charge my phone and be in reach of my bed currently

I would say it depends on the quality of the cable as well, crappy cable = bad charging, but so far the monoprice cables seem pretty solid. I'm happy with the results, though I wish i got a 15' just to test it out. I got 6 cables and all are in working order.
Also as the above comment state thread closed I would agree, monoprice is good, and was exactly what I was looking for.

The junk usb cables from ebay doesn't provide much power for charging..
Trust me I've been through this and did alot of testing couple years back. None of the ebay usb cables managed to provide more than 200mA on my old phone and couldn't power on any of my usb hdds. Only the official ones from htc and those that comes with a usb hdd are quality.
If you're only planning to transfer data around then I guess it doesn't matter.

Very true. I ordered a 2m cable from eBay a few years back and plugged in to an OEM HTC wall charger. My device - HTC Desire would take more than 10 hours to charge (that's without using the device whilst charging).
It seems to be difficult to differentiate between good and bad *long* [charging] cables. I am now thinking of going for a branded one such as Lindy to see if that is better, alternatively perhaps a 'fixed cable' AC wall charger.
Noticed that my 3m long usb cable from ebay takes longer to charge the phone than the official htc usb cable so you guys are right.....

Try a decent quality cable from somebody like Cables2Go or (like above) Belkin, much better quality and can carry much more current

I'm sure there are many different cables sold on ebay...
But yes, long USB cables tend to have a lot of resistance. Actually, they're generally not even very good for data transfer...
That said, a quality USB cable should be fine. In any event, it's not like some devices which actually have modified cables for charging.
I have ordered the above belkin one for myself, will see how well it works and report back once I get it.
I use the USB cable from my old Nokia phone. Works pretty well. I guess name branded cables are better than generic ones.

It's not HTC, just the usual cheap rubbish.
What to look out for to order a quality USB cable?
Got my 2m belkin cable yesterday, trying it out now and definitely faster charging than my no named 3m cable. What is the best way to test it?
Will time it tomorrow when it requires another charge.

Yeah is there an app that measure the current coming out of charger?
In the mean time I would just charge with the original HTC cable for a set period if time and then the same for the Belkin one.
Yeh was going to do it that way but makes it 2 days before results or 3 using the cheapo 3m cable too....

I don't quite understand what you mean by the above- what makes it 2 days and what results?
Charge the device for say 30 minutes with the Belkin cable and then the same for original cable. See which does it quicker/charges more out of the two.

For that you can't use an app, you need a multimeter.

Surely its possible to know how much current is drawn from charger via the device itself? Current Widget claims to do it.

TBH, I've had that problem once of the two times I've bought the long cables (same seller, same item). I think its a matter of cable quality as well as length. Pay a bit more and get a better quality cable and you should be fine.

I bought my original LeMax 2 in the US and got a USB-C charger and cable (both sides), so I had to find and deal with a wall plug replacement at home.
It's worked fine and is still working, even if the US->EU adapter is somewhat large, at least *after* I found out that I wasn't reversible (despite USB-c) at the charger side (but reversible at the phone side).
Le next (sorry but 'le' is 'the' in French and it's soundy very silly to say 'the Le') Max2 I bought for my son and that came with a US charger, a flimsy US->EU adapter and a USB-A to USB-c cable: That charger and the phone no longer seem able to negotiate proper voltage levels, but the problem seems to be more with the cable, as it works with another USB-A to USB-c cable. This original cable is a bit odd anyway, as it is actually reversible at the USB-A (non-c) side.
Since I wanted to cut down on the risk of electrocution and my son borrowing my charger I bought him an Anker QuickCharge 3 compatible charger from Amazon (https://www.amazon.de/Anker-PowerPo...79601842&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+quick+charge+3). Works perfectly and very quickly.
And then I went full steam ahead and bought another Anker charger to consolidate my sockets, since I have quite a few Androids and was running out of outlets (or rather daisy-chaining extension chords and sockets to nightmare levels):
https://www.amazon.de/PowerPort-Hoc...79601842&sr=8-5&keywords=anker+quick+charge+3
This one is a bit pricy but allows for quite a bit of consolidation, while it also offers at least one QuickCharge port.
And once you've tested QuickCharge, it's difficult to go back
It's full metal and feels very solid. Hopefully it also doesn't waste power unless it is actually charging.
Ask me again in a year or two if they fulfilled their quality promises without killing any phone or tablet
